Two Meat Platter
Matt R.

Great stop! Local beer and onsite BBq! We had the Two Meat Platter. Chose brisket and burnt ends. Both tasted like they came from the same cut. The burnt ends were not the "melt in your mouth" sweet variety...but very tasty. The brisket is mainstream. The bean were "ranch." The seasoning on the shoestring fries was great! Oh, and beer brewed onsite and mixed cocktails, along with fresh baked pie.

Fantastic Granola Porter from Craft Kitchen and Brewery!

I always do enjoy my trips to Bend! If not to take in activities and sightseeing then it's to partake in it's great craft beer culture. To order the food at this brewery there is a food truck that the food is prepared at. We went there to look at their menu and Steve and I got some street tacos for lunch and some ice cream for dessert. All of which was very good! Inside the taproom is the beer menu and I got a fantastic beer here. I got their Granola Porter. I love these kinds of porters and feel like I don't see them often enough when visiting breweries. The chocolate, coffee and roasted flavors are just delightful and blend together so well with this beer. Definitely a great stop and a great kick off to hitting a few more breweries and cideries around Bend during our trip!

Brisket, pulled pork and burnt ends. Sides: mac and cheese and collard greens

I just want to say the staff is amazingly kind. The lady taking my order was helpful and the man making the food asked how everything was. I was surprised there was no one on a Saturday around 12. First, order your food inside. Then take your number, get your own utensils and take a seat. The outdoor area had kid toys to keep the little ones occupied which was nice. The food: -fried oysters: the big kind of oysters which I don't really like but well prepared. I would only order if you like that ocean like flavor of big ones. Nice, crisp batter on the outside and it was served with a dipping sauce that complimented the oysters. -pulled pork, burnt ends and brisket plate: the pulled pork had a nice smoky flavor. The burnt ends did as well but had not as much caramelization on them or flavor. The brisket had a nice pink smoke ring and was flavorful but too lean for my liking. My son liked it. The greens were tasty, with a hint of Smokiness and salt from the meat bits and some acidity as well. The mac and cheese was decent too. No overcooked pasta. -out of the two bbq sauces, I actually preferred the spicy. It really wasn't that spicy. It had better texture and flavor than the original which seemed chunkier and peppery. -my husband wasn't a fan of the hazy IPA but will try others next time. I'd def return. I hope it draws more business. Perhaps I came on a slow day.

Shoe string fries gluten free

Stop what you are doing and go get the fried chicken sandwich. This place was amazing for me because the owner has celiac so there were so many gluten free options. In fact, the menu only marks that which has gluten (which is really just the Mac and cheese). You would never know this fried chicken is gluten free. Chicken was tender, juicy and so flavorful. Excellent portions, subbed a gluten free bun and I got the shoe strings with Cajun seasoning which were delicious! It was so good I forgot to take a picture until I started eating. Also, excellent customer service!

Craft is amazing. Best fried chicken sandwich I've eaten. The chicken is moist and tender the breading is light and crispy. The lettuce is smooth and the bun is soft. The side salad is a salad I could eat every day of my life and still love! One day it had almonds and another day it had sunflower seeds. Both times it had grapes and strawberries and this delicate yet flavorful vinaigrette that steals the show. The brisket is tender and delicious. The bacon is chewy and perfect. The cider is good and my boyfriend liked his IPA. The brownie was good as well. The atmosphere is relaxing and the view is beautiful. The servers and hosts are super friendly and helpful. All in all a great place with good food and good people. Keep up the excellent work!

Mediocre food but nice unique craft brews. Not sure I'd ever visit outside of happy hour.

Usually a great view does not equate to great food. This is an exception. To miss happy hour and the tapas would be a crime.

The parking can be a little tricky however as it is in an industrial area and you have to watch the signs to see where you can actually park. Once you figure that out, it's not too difficult! There are food trucks that line the exterior and the beers are plentiful. On tap, there are a plethora of different brews that they produce from stouts to IPAs. Very tasty, I tried their Grade A, which at 7.0% packs a punch (for me). On the lighter side, I also had the Bochi Bochi which was a Japanese rice lager at 4.9%. Would totally come back here!

After eight years, Crux is overdue for a review update. Biggest reason is that quite a few years…read moreago they expanded the place significantly, opening up the large room to the right of the bar that opens into the outdoor area. That room is equipped with restrooms, relieving one of my major complaints about a lack of facilities, as well as a second serving station complete with taps. Since then, Crux has significantly changed the outdoor area as well although I'm not certain it's an upgrade. It's a little too landscaped and way too much like a playground now. Locals have always tended to refer to Crux as 'daycare but with beer.' The last several times I've come here, the second serving station has not been in operation even though it looks to be still fully functional. Meanwhile the line to the bar serving stations is often long, sometimes almost out the door. Not sure why that is, doesn't make sense to have the capacity to more efficiently serve customers but not use it. All that said, the beer is still stellar and they continue to have a wide range of beer choices, the new(ish) large room has plentiful high-top seating (mobility challenged folks will need to venture outside), and the music is kept below ear-splitting volume. You can also sit at the bar itself although the vibe there isn't great - it's not like a neighborhood pub bar. Crux still has a kitchen. I used to order directly from them but have since transitioned to patronizing one of the several food carts outside. Being food carts, they tend to come and go so I'll not go into detail there. That said, the new Alpine Smash burger is fabulous. The other significant change in recent years has been with the location. A dispute with the property owners to the west resulted in the access road that way being closed, requiring Crux patrons to use the road coming from Second/Scott Street (or ride a bike). The west road is now open, maybe because the Jackstraw housing complex over that way is now completed and the road serves their tenants. RIP Spoken Moto.

It is hard to find parking in that area. We went over the weekend and even after showing up a little later (1:30) the wait was 45 minutes for an outdoor table for 4. After waiting 55 mins and seeing more than 5 picnic tables outside vacant we went up to the hostess stand and she couldn't even tell us where we were at in the list (we had given our phone number when we put our name in). Then as they are trying to figure out how much longer we have to wait they continue to seat people who are just walking up outside. We finally get seated after an hour and then we have to wait another 10+ minutes to get kid menus (we had 2 kids in our party). Our waitress was friendly and got our drinks in right away. We ordered a pretzel for the table and the cheese dip was really tasty. One of our kids got a kid's cheeseburger and fries which were good. The other got a kid's grilled cheese which was on the smaller side with fries. We did a beer sampler which was a good way to check out several options. Overall rating would be 3.5 rating.

Same arrangement - booths and tables arrayed inside with a pandemic-spawned sidewalk seating area outside. Order at the small bar at the back and choose your table. $6 pints and they have larger mugs. The primary - and significant - difference between The Lair and White Water was the latter offered up a wide array of beers from several breweries while The Lair now strictly pours their own (unless I missed seeing an off-brand tap). I consider Kobold beer to be middle of the (local) pack in terms of quaffability, so the new selection is a bit of a downgrade. Other changes include making the space darker and less sterile (more like a lair, I guess). New decorations are up and the electronic beer board is gone. They now offer a small sandwich menu. White Water sometimes hosted a popup poke-sushi operation. Not sure if that will happen at The Lair. Overall, A-OK but I will miss White Water.

So on our last trip to Bend we finally made it here to the their taproom and it didn't disappoint at all. It was a great stop! We got a taster set of a variety of different beers that they had on tap and they were all quite good. Many of them have a wild ale aspect to them which I can appreciate at you don't come across this beer too much on a routine basis. The taproom is cool and I love all of their art specifically where fermentation liquids spilled onto a sheet or a cloth making various designs and hues during the brewing making process of their beers. Other excellent beers that we have had from this brewery are the Samalie which is a Wild Ale. This one I rated very highly on Untappd because it was so amazing! Things to look for in the flavor profile are sourness, tartness, fruitiness, a natural sweetness and a dry finish. Really an excellent beer! Moving on from that we had the great Ping Pong Table Beer. This was another beer I rated quite highly and enjoyed immensely. This beer is light bodies, smooth and effervescent with the flavor of elderflower at work. Another excellent beer! Definitely great beer experiences with this brewery and definitely recommend it to the more adventurous beer drinking folks. If you're on the Bend Ale Trail, this is a must-visit stop as well. We visited on a weekday afternoon after opening, so it wasn't busy at all. The friendly beer server was welcoming and shared about the brewery, explaining about the bottle selections, how they make everything, and what was available on tap or in bottles to try that day. The décor is super eclectic with fun things to look at and enjoy while sipping. They also have picnic tables and outdoor seating if you'd prefer. Bottles are also available to go. For its uniqueness, prices are super reasonable for complex beers. This isn't a brewery for everyone however, even their customer demanded line of "regular beers" each has a signature of funk from their house yeast strains. As a beer lover that enjoys everything, it was fun to taste each thing; friends enjoyed this place very much as well. If you're an adventurous beer fan, this is worth your time!
