I don't like long lines and a long wait to eat and this place is a pretty good alternative to The Boiling Crab. I haven't been to The Boiling Crab in quite a while so I can't really make a detailed comparison but from what I can remember this place is pretty comparable. It's in a nice quaint neighborhood in Montrose. We went on a Saturday night around 6pm, no reservations, and we were seated pretty quickly. ***under new ownership*** this establishment is a shell of it's former self. sauces are remarkably saltier, portions smaller, service slower, not to mention 30% increase in prices. the new manager, Jason, is a complete douche. poor service skills and super defensive, especially when we made attempts to communicate our concerns. all in all, I'm positive this place will still fool lots of rookies to the cajun game given the location. my advice... dont sell yourself short and try something else. read more

Keep in mind that even when cooked, dead crab will have a scent of ammonia--& this restaurant will try to serve you a dead crab (or previously cooked) unless you ask to watch the crab being pulled out of the live tank. We ordered the combination asking if the crab is "live" from the tank which our server answered "yes". After asking one too many questions regarding the status of our crab a second server came to explain that smaller crab (part of the combo) are taken out of the live tank earlier in the day, but are "fresh". "Live?" I clarified. "Yes. Fresh" he responded. Needless to say our crab smelt of ammonia but it was not completely inedible so we decided not send it back and again wait 20min to cook another. Service was passable though frustrating how they still insisted they served us "live or fresh" crab. The other food was still good and there's a nice 3 for$10 beer special. Also, it is convenient location and there is hardly a wait as they are not busy (about 40% capacity) even on a Friday night. Just be sure to NOT expect "live" seafood if that's what you are used to eating. read more

I have mixed emotions about this place , ordered take out , 1lb shrimp with all flavors . Shrimp are very big . Mines may have been over cooked because the skin was hard to peel on some , the bag was mostly full of grease . My shrimp was more sweet than garlic- Cajun-lemony. I expected more Cajun ,But not to sweet were it's not good , I should of maybe got some spice in it ?? Fries were not good couldn't taste any Cajun maybe needed some other seasoning they were mostly plain they were over cooked too. I only went here because boiling crab is always such a long wait . Awesome place for crab and crawfish. Located in the little Montrose get away town, its a nice change of pace but with great food. I had the clams set at cracking spices and the "spicy level", which was mediumish. The servers were helpful and friendly. The only ding is the atmosphere seemed a little confusing and the number of TVs was distracting. Definitely a great choice though! read more

Just celebrated my mom's birthday here last night and it was great! I've had a few parties here with around 10-25 people at a time and every time, I've had an amazing experience. Special shoutout to Mark and the other staff who helped him out (wish I got their names too!) this past weekend, as he was able to take care of our party with no problems at all and was very accommodating​ overall. They kept our drinks filled and condiments/bibs/wipes were always readily available. He helped us out with ordering and gave us good suggestions pertaining to the size of our party. Their combos are reasonably priced and will feed a crowd pretty well, if not you can order a la carte to supplement.​ We ended up ordering some lobster, crab, shrimp, and clams; in addition to some fries and calamari for starters. The food is always fresh and flavorful here, I have yet to have a bad experience here with it. I highly recommend coming here if you have a party or if you just love seafood! read more

Came here on Christmas Eve a little after they opened. I've been to the other seafood places but was hoping to find one closer to home. We ordered 2 pounds cracking crab mix medium, popcorn lobster with sweet potato fries, and a dozen oysters. The oysters were fresh, but tiny. The shrimp was extremely salty. I love seafood boils, but I was just brushing off the sauce on these. The shrimp were bigger than other places like BC, so that was a plus. My favorite thing here was the popcorn lobster and that's definitely not what I came in for. The portion was more than expected and the dipping sauce it came with complemented it well. I'll probably just be back for oysters and beer. read more

Our party of 8 went yesterday, arrived around 5:00 and were seated right away. Waiter was initially attentive taking drink orders and then food orders. Food came out in waves - probably took 5 minutes for everybody to get their food. After that the waiter disappeared, didn't come back to check on drinks or anything else. Had to wave down another waiter and he helped us. We literally waited 35 minutes for our check once we were all done. That didn't bother us because we were talking but it shouldn't take that long. Once we got the check we had to go up front to pay, the server never came to take the payment. Food was good. Space is not crowded but the decor is pretty feeble. I'd probably go back. read more

It was alright. Nothing fabulous. Our crab legs came out really fast, yet they were under cooked and we had to send one bag back. They replaced it which was good. Catfish done perfectly though. It was my first time here yesterday and my first time eating crab, shrimp, gumbo so I have nothing to compare to. From everything we ordered, I really enjoyed the king crab legs! Definitely would go back just to order this again. The seasoning and spicy level were just right. The Cajun fries were good too but after eating all that flavorful food you need something simple on the side. They messed up our order but the server was very helpful in making things right. I'd be surprised to find out that this restaurant is NOT using an improper means of raising their Yelp star level. It is in no way cajun OR creole. They do not know what a po boy is! we had the LUISIANA (misspelled on their menu) hot link po boy and the catfish basket. The sausage tasted and looked like a spicy bologna and their catfish is mushy and oily, disgusting. they DO give you a ton of the fried foods, though...however disgusting it tastes. we also had a pellegrino bottled water & lemonade. the lemonade was crystal light or country time. if it isn't then it's a cheap ripoff of both of those powdered drinks. the pellegrino was the highlight of the meal. read more

If you like low quality seafood smothered in seasonings then this is the spot for you. Tried this place with a friend and I'm still paying for it. I love seafood and can tell immediately if it was sitting in boiling water for hours then slapped with "Cajun" seasonings to mask the real flavor. Stumbled across this place when our regular eatery was closed. We ordered a variety of food! We had the house salad-which I loved, the shrimp po-boy sliders-delicious, the crawfish basket - slightly greasy but it's fried so what can you expect, and the shrimp and garlic noodles which was very tasty! The food was a solid 4.5 stars... The service however didn't quite meet our expectations. Our server was very dry and had no personality. We were almost afraid to ask for things. The most annoying part was that we asked for a side (as in a 1oz portion cup) of tarter sauce for the crawfish and we were charged! Seems lame, especially since she failed to mention that it wouldn't be complimentary. I'm certain that we will try it again but it won't be for a while! read more

The crab is delicious - don't bother with the crackin crab meals for 2. I got the crackin combo 2 with lobster--lobster was rubbery, overall definitely way overpriced for what you get ($50). Because I ordered that, the bill for four of us was over $100. But the crab legs? Yum! $18 for a bag of seasoned snow crab legs--and you will not need one bag per person. Service is below par, as I've read by others who posted. It's adequate---we didn't wait too long, she refilled our drinks, etc., but she was not friendly. I got the feeling she saw us as much a nuisance as anything. Still left a 15% tip. read more

Came here during the week for the first time and wasn't disappointed. Our server, John, was great and very attentive. The food came out quickly and tasted great as well. All the fish courses were spot on and we ordered the buffalo wings as an appetizer and they were surprisingly good! It does get messy since this is a spot where you mostly eat with your hands. And guys don't listen to people that say "Ohh this place sucks compared to boiling crab" because it's the same exact thing. Same sauce same quality everything... If you think paying $45 ("market price") for a (that's one, mind you) 1.5 Lbs crab, served on a table without plates and hardly any service sounds good, then this is a great place for you. On the other hand, if you can boil a crab and place it on a table, then you have this place beat and it will cost you a third of the "market price". The food is overpriced, and the preparation is not impressive. Seasoning is weak -- if you look at the other reviews where people actually review the food you'll see a common trend. It's pretty obvious that they have all their seasoning prepared in bulk, probably not even mixed at the restaurant, and they just dunk the crab into the bag with the sauce you ask for. It's hardly what I would call a restaurant, and certainly not worthy of the large prices charged for marginal food. Atmosphere is nice and casual. Too bad the food is one step above McDonalds. If you value tasty food and service, stay clear, this is all bark and no bite. read more

SAD SAD SAD - We went there the 1st week they opened - the A/C was broken and they were out of the best stuff on the menu! It smelled bad. 2nd chance ++++ awesome!!! We were big fans - once a week good - then we heard they sold the restaurant - last 3 visits NOT-SO-GOOD - smaller portions, over cooked shrimp and veggies, smaller portions (need mentioned twice). The shrimp and crab are over cooked leaving the shrimp mushy and the crab tough - plus far less flavor...probably won't return. There's better places close by. Ordered grilled vegetables- over grilled 8 asparagus spears (only half edible) and 4 small pieces of (over grilled) soft zucchini...$5.95 - NOT GOOD - the cracking crab is crumbling read more

While it's a similar version of The Boiling Crab in Burbank which is a longer drive for us I think I prefer the The Boiling crab. In the Boiling crab they have an industrial sink in the restaurant to wash up before and after a meal. In the Cracking cab if you want to wash up the bathroom only handles one and might be busy. At cracking crab they give you plastic gloves which work fine and it's a close call on this one but I prefer without gloves. We ordered 2x1lb of shrimp with the works. The shrimp appearance looked a bit off putting as it seemed clumped with a sort of black spices. For sure Boiling Crab scores better on appearance. Taste, drink selection, cleanliness, service and price I'd rate the same. If sports are what you are into Boiling crab has more T.V's. While not a big issue and I'm sure an accident one of our shrimp bags leaked and flooded the table with shrimp juice. I had to curl up the paper on the table so it didn't drop on my lap. These things happen and not giving any knocks because of it. I would have liked beer on tap too. read more

The menu is a little limited but delicious. The waiting staff is very attentive. This place gets packed on weekends but worth the wait.
