This place is amazing. I literally have been here about 50 times. I have never been disappointed. Always left happy and craving some more.

I tried Cracking Crab for the first time last weekend with my fiancé. It was a really fun experience. We ordered lobster, a shrimp basket with Cajun fries, and corn on the side. We had such a great time with the lobster - we put on our bibs and went to work! My only gripe with the experience was the taste of the food. Not the best lobster I've had. Also, the sauce they used was a bit too oily for my taste. Great service though. I'll probably go back because we had such a great time cracking and making a mess! read more

Went so our oldest son could try crab legs for his birthday. The experience was okay, not great. We ordered bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer, which was good. Grilled vegetable side was good, but jambalaya was not great. It was fine, but texture of shrimp and okra were not great and flavor profile was about the same. I was disappointed. They forgot to bring my gumbo, but based on the jambalaya, I just asked for it to be canceled. Kids liked the fries and chicken tenders, and server brought out free dessert since they didn't bring out the gumbo. That was a nice gesture. But ....Meh. Probably won't go back. read more

I finally tried this place after feeling skeptical about it since it first opened, and I'm in love. I came here for Halloween with my family just a few days ago and we were all extremely satisfied. We got 2 different crab and lobster and it was so much fun getting a little messy with the food & it was one memorable Halloween for us. My order came with corn inside the bag with the right amount of sauce mix absorbed in it and their fries with the ranch is also soooo good coming from a crazy french fries fan. Cracking crab is my favorite place to go to for seafood. The taste is amazing and so is the service. The tools they give you to crack the crab open, make it so easy! I don't like long lines and a long wait to eat and this place is a pretty good alternative to The Boiling Crab. I haven't been to The Boiling Crab in quite a while so I can't really make a detailed comparison but from what I can remember this place is pretty comparable. It's in a nice quaint neighborhood in Montrose. We went on a Saturday night around 6pm, no reservations, and we were seated pretty quickly. However, by the time we were done which was around 8ish, there was a line forming outside. Can't go wrong with this place if you're in the mood for seafood. read more

While it's a similar version of The Boiling Crab in Burbank which is a longer drive for us I think I prefer the The Boiling crab. In the Boiling crab they have an industrial sink in the restaurant to wash up before and after a meal. In the Cracking cab if you want to wash up the bathroom only handles one and might be busy. At cracking crab they give you plastic gloves which work fine and it's a close call on this one but I prefer without gloves. We ordered 2x1lb of shrimp with the works. The shrimp appearance looked a bit off putting as it seemed clumped with a sort of black spices. For sure Boiling Crab scores better on appearance. Taste, drink selection, cleanliness, service and price I'd rate the same. If sports are what you are into Boiling crab has more T.V's. While not a big issue and I'm sure an accident one of our shrimp bags leaked and flooded the table with shrimp juice. I had to curl up the paper on the table so it didn't drop on my lap. These things happen and not giving any knocks because of it. I would have liked beer on tap too. read more

The menu is a little limited but delicious. The waiting staff is very attentive. This place gets packed on weekends but worth the wait.

We were big fans - once a week good - then we heard they sold the restaurant - last 3 visits NOT-SO-GOOD - smaller portions, over cooked shrimp and veggies, smaller portions (need mentioned twice). The shrimp and crab are over cooked leaving the shrimp mushy and the crab tough - plus far less flavor...probably won't return. There's better places close by. Ordered grilled vegetables- over grilled 8 asparagus spears (only half edible) and 4 small pieces of (over grilled) soft zucchini...$5.95 - NOT GOOD - the cracking crab is crumbling read more

This place has its own flavor kind of on the sweet side ordered extra spicy and i wasnt really spicy however it was still good the mac n chesse was pretty good the chesse they put on top gives it a good flavor the fried calamari is probably one of the best ive had so far not to much breading on it.. and also tried there blue lemon drop must say gota come back during happy hour cause we just cant get enough of those read more

If you like low quality seafood smothered in seasonings then this is the spot for you. Tried this place with a friend and I'm still paying for it. I love seafood and can tell immediately if it was sitting in boiling water for hours then slapped with "Cajun" seasonings to mask the real flavor. (King crab legs literally tasted like tap water) If you like quality skip this spot. Service is alright, they're nice but kinda make you feel like you're a burden for being there. read more

Came here on Christmas Eve a little after they opened. I've been to the other seafood places but was hoping to find one closer to home. We ordered 2 pounds cracking crab mix medium, popcorn lobster with sweet potato fries, and a dozen oysters. The oysters were fresh, but tiny. The shrimp was extremely salty. I love seafood boils, but I was just brushing off the sauce on these. The shrimp were bigger than other places like BC, so that was a plus. My favorite thing here was the popcorn lobster and that's definitely not what I came in for. The portion was more than expected and the dipping sauce it came with complemented it well. I'll probably just be back for oysters and beer. read more

It was alright. Nothing fabulous. Our crab legs came out really fast, yet they were under cooked and we had to send one bag back. They replaced it which was good. Catfish done perfectly though. It was my first time here yesterday and my first time eating crab, shrimp, gumbo so I have nothing to compare to. From everything we ordered, I really enjoyed the king crab legs! Definitely would go back just to order this again. The seasoning and spicy level were just right. The Cajun fries were good too but after eating all that flavorful food you need something simple on the side. They messed up our order but the server was very helpful in making things right. I'd be surprised to find out that this restaurant is NOT using an improper means of raising their Yelp star level. It is in no way cajun OR creole. They do not know what a po boy is! we had the LUISIANA (misspelled on their menu) hot link po boy and the catfish basket. The sausage tasted and looked like a spicy bologna and their catfish is mushy and oily, disgusting. they DO give you a ton of the fried foods, though...however disgusting it tastes. we also had a pellegrino bottled water & lemonade. the lemonade was crystal light or country time. if it isn't then it's a cheap ripoff of both of those powdered drinks. the pellegrino was the highlight of the meal. read more

This was our first visit here while visiting relatives in the area. We enjoyed a chilled sake. My boyfriend had the Dungeness Crab with corn and potatoes. He also had the oysters. He was delighted with his meal. Me, on the other hand, was not as delighted. I had the peeled shrimp, potatoes and corn. The potatoes and corn were delicious and at the perfect temperature. The shrimp seemed like it was thrown in the skillet for 30 seconds after being in the refrigerator. They were cold. I informed the waitress and when my meal was returned to me- it appeared to be microwaved though I can't be 100% sure. The shrimp temp was perfect, but now the potatoes and corn were extremely hot. The crackin sauce was delicious, but a bit too much for my plate. However the flavor is fabulous. The waitresses were extremely kind and the service was NOT lacking. Not bad. Been here 5 times already and it's treated me well. The only issue is it is kind of pricey compared to the original boiling crab. And guys don't listen to people that say "Ohh this place sucks compared to boiling crab" because it's the same exact thing. Same sauce same quality everything... It's more roomy though and has pretty good service. Just be prepared to pay $15 for the most common meal they have. Besides that, lcr needs this place.. have fun! read more
