You know how it can be hard sometimes to review a chain restaurant? Like, you go to one location, you've been to them all, right? Okay, obviously, that's never really the case. Experiences differ from town to town, state to state, etc. Cracker Barrel is usually pretty standard, though. You know what you're typically getting, whether it's the food, the service, or the gift shop up front. Not so, here. Instead, what we ran into was one of the best darn Cracker Barrel's we've ever visited! And honestly? I think it was the staff that made the difference. Our server was FANTASTIC! I wish I noted her name, as I'd love to let her manager know how amazing she was. To start, she was so pleasant and friendly to us, despite the number of tables she was working at the time. The place was nearly packed, though we did not have to wait for a table for three. We were never missing refills (she was proactive on that front), and she kept checking up on us throughout our meal (but not too much!). The kitchen staff know what they are doing too! You have an expectation with the food here, but they absolutely crushed it! The pancakes had a perfect crispy edge, but a soft pillowy interior. They were clearly freshly made, as they were still quite hot to the touch when they arrived on the table! Everything else was cooked to order (eggs, specifically), hot food was hot, cold food was cold, etc. Usually you can find one or two things that aren't quite up to par, but that wasn't the case. Okay okay okay, I found the one thing I can complain about: the sweet tea wasn't disturbingly sweet like a good Southern-style swee'tea! There. I found something to complain about. Yeah, I'm kidding, but it was literally one of those experiences where you don't even feel like you're in a chain joint anymore. Everything just hit right, the service was stellar, and the overall experience was memorable for all the right reasons. We got carry out 2 days ago and the food tasted fantastic . The only complaint that we had was the "Special $5 carry out meal" We thought it would be a meal size Special. We got a piece of meatloaf about a 1/4 inch thick and about 35 pieces of elbow macaroni with a little cheese sauce on them. This was not any way close to $5 worth of food. My wife and I wanted to celebrate national biscuit day. We both thought no better place than Cracker Barrel even the nearest one is over 20 miles from ou home. It was a good choice as we had a very attentive experienced waitress who has been with CB 3 or 4 years. We both ordered the old timers with a side of hash brown caserole. Everything was delicious. We recently had the absolute worst experience I have had in a Cracker Barrel restaurant in the 35+ years I have been a customer. My wife and I brought our parents out to dinner. We had to wait @ 10 minutes for a waitress to take our drink order, then about another 10 minutes for her to bring it and take our order. When the food arrived, there were no complaints from the rest of the family, but my order was a disaster. I had an extra side on my plate that I didn't order, the mashed potatoes and gravy were a solid lump, and everything was cold. The most significant concern was the chicken and dumplings. It wasn't even lukewarm. Knowing that it is most likely served from a heated vat, not only does it suck to receive cold food, but it is dangerous to your customers not to have food kept at a proper temperature. There is no chance the food in my dish was kept above 140 degrees. Have to track down a manager to complain about, and being offered a free dessert card was almost an insult. Yes, they took the meal off the bill, but that did not deal with the fact I still had to have a dinner, aloe, somewhere else that offered properly prepared food. I have read multiple accounts that the food quality and customer service at Cracker Barrel is falling by the wayside, but I had not experienced it myself until now. Major dissapointment that will make me think twice before dining at one of their restaurants again. read more

Had a party of five and we had really good service because we had a new person in training as well as her trainer taking care of us. And the staff was really friendly and helped us with seating and taking pictures for our breast cancer survivor group/birthday party. The food was all very good . I had the Friday fish fry, which is the reason I picked this restaurant for my party . It's one of those comfort foods that's hard to make for yourself at home. Tartar sauce is on the sweet side, not heavy on the dill pickles . Fish is crispy and not heavily breaded. It does not taste super fishy, which means it's fresh fish not something that's been sitting around. And not some kind of substitute fish. (if you don't know that that's what's going on at certain other restaurants when that happens.) The baked potato had two scoops of sour cream on it, as well as butter for my friend who had that as her entrée . Our corner was a little on the dark side. That's one of the few things we could complain about, but we are all pretty positive people and just use the lights on our cell phones to get a better look at the menu. ! lol The round table that seats I believe six people may be seven , that is right near the receptionist desk in the corner, where they keep the high chairs, so there is an overhang over the top of you a little bit. You know Cracker Barrel has a lot of antiques except that they like to display so they have to put them somewhere right? So I'm not angry, but I think they could put some kind of additional light in that corner to help patrons see what they're eating and read the menu easily especially when they're older people. Not everybody is as positive and upbeat as breast cancer survivors celebrating somebody's one year anniversary of a positive recovery diagnosis ! Cracker Barrel is honestly not my first pic or my favorite place but this way is pretty good. The food selection I found to be improved since my last visit (which in fairness had been years previous) The wait staff seemed very good, the service was very good even considering a waitress walked out abrubtly on an extremely busy Friday evening. With the weather still being cold we needed some comfort food but I didn't feel like cooking and either did the hubby so we decided to order in. I went with my go to meal of the meatloaf dinner. The meatloaf dinner comes with three sides and bread. I was disappointed that I wasn't able to get my cornbread but I'll get over it!! My sides included mac n cheese, green beans and mashed potatoes!! They threw in some fried apples I guess because they were having a good night and wanted me to have a good night too. Thanks for the dessert I wasn't expecting Cracker Barrel The Cracker Barrel app is very user friendly and I would do that every time going forward!! They are now delivering at most locations with the covid19 pandemic so we decided to use their delivery (DoorDash) and it came at the time they had estimated. It was very convenient because normally we have to pick up. I think once they are opened back up they should still offer this service!! This is a review for Rootstown, OH Cracker Barrel 2025 Thanksgiving. My family picked up hot and ready meals, not the refrigerated meals you warm at home. First, I must say they have customer service down to a science. We were told to follow the signs to the back. There was an industrial sized walk-in freezer in back of the store for cold pickups, but both hot and cold were in the same car line. The servers were plentiful and ventured up and down letting everyone know when their food would be out. Ours was ready about 8 minutes prior to our reservation, so they were very timely. Online it looks as if tips get split amongst all staff as a banquet event. It was piping hot in very nice serving trays the kept things nice and warm for our 30 minite drive home. We ordered both dinners and veggie plates. There is a limited menu for holiday service. We received turkey, gravy, sweet potato casserole, stuffing, rolls, mac and cheese, green beans, mashed potatoes, corn, pumpkin pie and cinnamon roll pie. With the exception of the skanky rolls, the rest was simply exquisite! I can't stand the chemical taste of margarine, and it seems the bread was soaked in it. I do wish the gravy serving was a bit larger. There was probably a couple teaspoons worth per meal. They were likely worried about leakage, but I like a lot of gravy. I'm not sure, but i think the menu said it came with cranberry sauce. We didn't get that, but no one at our house would have eaten it anyway, and one is allergic, so it was actually good for us that it was likely forgotten. This meal is so worth it. If you are on the fence, just do it. But, get your own bread or pay extra for a family side of their corn muffins. I couldn't make it at home for what we paid, there was no time lost to cooking and clean-up, and I got to relax with the fam after we ate. We did it a couple years ago and got the sweet ham. We came late that time and they had run out of some things- but everything we got was awesome too. We don't eat inside because the wood fireplace is smokey and I have asthma. Truly disappointed. Country Fried Steak. Nothing more than breaded hamburger patty. Sausage gravy tasted more like milk and flour, plain and no flavor. We waited for waiter or waitress to come to our table. They were not busy. We waited almost an hour to get our food. I am a white female and my husband was black. We went to Cracker Barrel today. It was not very busy. We got seated immediately but had to wait about 15 minutes for our server. We ordered right away and waited another r20 minutes for our food to arrive. Our food was room temperature when it arrived and was burnt. So basically we had cold burnt food. Last trip there, they had no cornbread....not good, but today they had em! So great news for this country boy. The ladies at the cashier stand were very nice as usual. I usually try to get there a bit early to look at all the kewl stuff they have. You'd be suprised at the items they have. Didn't get much of a chance on this day the meal was hot and ready so fast. Anyone who knows us, will tell you we aren't the "type" to frequent a place like Cracker Barrel. Dead animal heads and old farm tools hanging over us while we are eating....well, not really our thing! But, out of necessity we stopped in for a bite and to our surprise, we enjoyed the entire experience. Their southern fried chicken is SLAP YO MOMMA GOOD! We love us some deep fried poultry and like to think we are pretty good judges in this area. Super crispy, full of flavor and ever so juicy and tender. Dude, yes! Got our meal with a side of steamed broccoli and were totally shocked at how perfectly cooked it was. Coke Zero? Yep, they have it. Always a defining factor on the star rating we give. Love their gift shop and the super cool items they have. Retro candy, clothing and candles...something for everyone. The only thing keeping us from 5 stars would be the bathrooms. My breakfast tasted of sadness. I will admit I did not bring this to our server's attention; I also have debated whether or not to leave this review because I really didn't give the restaurant a chance to make it right, but they earned it. I have visited many Cracker Barrels during many road trips through the Midwest, eastern and southern parts of the country; from Fl to PA to WI. The fare is fairly predictable and consistent across the chain. But this breakfast was below par. After taking our orders and leaving out drinks our server disappeared for a while, and no water. Usually when I have ordered hot tea at Cracker Barrel the server brings a glass of ice water; granted I did not ask for water, but it was unusual given past experience. She disappeared long enough that the lemonade my dad ordered stood empty for a long while and we both grew bored enough to fiddle with cellphones. We typically do not use phones at the table. I ordered two eggs over medium, grits, hash browns, bacon, biscuits with apple butter and sawmill gravy. The restaurant term "died in the pass" came to mind when my breakfast hit the table. There was a congealed layer over the sawmill gravy and the grits that you see when something is put in a dish and allowed to sit too long. She had to make more than one trip for all the plates and did get dad a refill of lemonade while i evaluated the meal before me and debated sending parts of it back. After deciding not to raise a fuss because I really didn't want early morning drama and the road trip must go on, I began to eat. Almost everything was cold. The grits were tepid and were the warmest part of the meal. One of the two eggs was a perfect medium with a completely cooked egg white around a mostly runny yolk. The other egg was missing most of the white and the yolk was more than half cooked and there was raw egg white on it. How can one egg be overcooked, undercooked and partly missing all at once? No idea. I don't know that I could recreate the phenomenon. And it was cold. The hash and bacon were okay. Cooked well enough, but cold. The biscuits were tough on the bottom, but only a little. The apple butter was nice on the biscuits. My dad says he meal tasted good, but could have been warmer. He liked the strawberry lemonade. read more

I've only eaten breakfast here, but I've always had a good meal. I ordered the chicken biscuit sliders for breakfast and they were sooooo good. The biscuits alone are outstanding, the breading on the chicken had a lot of flavor and the chicken was tender. It's insane how much food you can get for under $10. Most of the people in our group took more than half home with them. Our waitress was Johanna and she was magnificent. I don't like eggs, and she was super accommodating about switching things around. She was friendly, on top of refilling coffee/water, and overall, just really good at her job. It has a "wholesome country" kind of vibe. Old tools on the wall, country or gospel music playing, rocking chairs for sale on the front porch, waitresses in long skirts and a little bit of an older crowd. read more

We ate here twice on our vacation, August 8th & 11th, both in the early afternoon. We all had breakfast; mine was turkey bacon with egg beaters (didn't care for either). I enjoyed the grits, biscuits and cheesy hash browns, though. My son had "Uncle Herschel's favorite"--chicken strips with eggs; he liked it. My husband had no complaints with his food and even took my turkey bacon. On our 2nd visit, I really enjoyed their buttermilk pancakes with warm syrup. My son had grilled cheese--very good. My husb. had the Old Timer's breakfast with coffee. We all enjoyed our meals and the service was good. We've been to several different Cracker Barrels while traveling and this one was pretty good. When I'm on the road and I see a Cracker Barrel while looking for a place to go for breakfast I'll stop there because I like their "eggs in a basket" with sausage patties for breakfast. They also make a good breakfast potato casserole. The service is usually slow because the places serve a lot of people. But you can look at the hundreds of "antiques" hanging on the walls. They also have a country store selling candies and nick knacks. But breakfast is the ONLY meal I'll eat in this chain restaurant. Their lunch and dinner menus leave a lot to be desired and the dinner portions were small and reminded me of frozen TV dinner food. But for breakfast on the road they're OK! read more

I usually love this place but today my family got here at 6:30p.m and got a table around 6:50p.m. We take our order for the food at 7:10, around 7:30 kids are annoyed and hungry. 7:45ish the waiter comes back and tells us the food will be out shortly 7 minutes later food has still not come out. Finally at 7:56 food comes out and all the food is cold eggs, bacon, French toast, pancakes, you name it. It's all cold. Extremely disappointed! I usually stop at this location when returning from akron Ohio to Pittsburgh. Most often you are promptly seated and greeted by a nice waitress at a clean table. Not the case this time. While yes I understand 11:30 or so on a Saturday will be a busy time ... you should probably seat customers at a clean table that doesn't have napkins under the table and spoons on the seats. Broken crayons all over the table and food all over the floor. Disgusting! On top of this.. I order a turkey sandwich - how does one screw this up? It was burnt, dry and full of fat! Gave this place another chance after more than a year on my "banned restaurants" list. Service was good, food was not. Harvest apple roasted chicken had no apples and was swimming in a pod of grease. If you're looking for a home cooked meal for an affordable price, this is the place to go! Went here with my husband Saturday at around 4pm and we didn't have to wait for a table. I hate waiting for tables so we always go to dinner early on the weekends. We also had a gift card which was nice so we kind of pigged out. :) Their menu has so many great meals to choose from. First off, they serve a pretty delicious breakfast. Their have a sandiwhc section which is pretty good but I just can't seem to pass up the dinner menu. The finner menu is broken up into two sections. The first section consits of an entree, 3 sides, and corn muffins or biscuits. The second section is a bit cheaper and consits of an entree, 2 sides, and corn muffins or biscuits. Now, my husband and I have a system. We share our sides because Cracker Barrel has a lot of unique side dishes you don't see at other restaurants. We each get entrees from the first section and split 6 sides. It's a pretty sweet deal! Saturday, I chose the roast beef dinner which was great! The meat was fork tender and fatty so it had tons of flavor and came with gravy made from the pan drippings on top. YUM! My husband always gets the country fried steak with gravy on the side (says he likes the breading to stay crispy). For our sides, we ordered the following: fried okra (one of my faves), steak fries, cottage cheese, mac & cheese, fried apples (another fave), and a baked sweet potato. It's so hard to choose sides because they are all just amazing. We also like their hasbrown casserole and sweet baby carrots. Now, onto the best part...the Cracker Barrel store! Yes, they have an old-fashioned store out front where you pay for your meal. They have all sorts of cool doodads. I always have to look around and play with everything. Hubby rolls his eyes becuase I insist on looking at everything and end up buying nothing. lol! Oh well, fun times. Overall, our experience was pretty good. The only thing I think that could have made our visit better would be if our food came out while it was still hot. I noticed that several of our sides were cold by the time we got them. We came here for breakfast/brunch to start off my grandma's birthday celebration. We called around 8:30 on a Sunday and made a reservation for 15 at 11am. We arrived prior to our reservation and were told they were setting up the table. No big deal, but 15 minutes later they still haven't called us. We waited another 15 minutes and still nothing. In the meantime they called multiple tables of 2-6ppl. We asked the hostess what the deal was and she said the one table they are waiting on is still sitting down. We asked for the manager and he said there was nothing he could do and apologized. Almost an hour later after our reservation we were seated down and sat at a mix match of tables that weren't even connected to each other. Plus the tables they sat us at were open the whole time we were there waiting. The service and food after that was good and fast. Just a heads up if you make a reservation plan to wait. Anyways... The website for the store front doesn't do it justice. Although some of their items can be very pricy they actually have a great selection of womens & baby clothing. You wont find the unique & adorable childrens clothing any where else nor the simply pretty womens line either. They do, however, have some great clearance items on a regular basis and unique gifts that can be enjoyed by all. They even have some really nice rustic/farm house dishes if you're going for that look and some neat Victorian inspired jewerly. read more
