Savanna made our stop at Cracker Barrel in Morton, Illinois an absolute pleasure. She was phenomenal from start to finish. She was friendly, personable, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. Even when a few items were unavailable, she communicated it honestly, transparently, and with such grace that it never felt like an inconvenience. Throughout our meal, she checked on us regularly, anticipated our needs, and always had a genuine smile on her face. As Texans traveling through Illinois, we were pleasantly surprised because Savanna reminded us of the very best of Southern hospitality. Visiting for a few days and was super excited to try! Came for brunch and the people were super nice. The waitress was patient as we weren't sure what to order. Service was a little slow but I think it's because there was one server for half the restaurant. I ordered the country fried steak and it was amazing! So good, thick meat, not too much batter, it was great! The hash browns were okay, not a lot of flavor and dry. Cute little gift shop inside the restaurant that sell a lot of old school candy. There were four of us that arrived at Cracker Barrel around 9:20 a.m. Unfortunately, this visit was very disappointing compared to the great experiences we've had in the past. Our waitress seemed dismissive from the beginning and never brought the water with lemon that I requested. When I asked if there were any peanut butter packets available for my toast, the response I received was less than cordial. Apparently, Cracker Barrel does not carry peanut butter packets. It took over 30 minutes for our food to arrive, even though the restaurant was not busy at all -- I counted only about 15 customers. When the food finally came out, all four meals were either missing items or prepared incorrectly. My over-easy eggs had completely solid yolks and were cold. To make matters worse, my knife had food residue on it. I asked for a clean knife, but one was never brought. Overall, the service and food quality were far below what we normally expect from Cracker Barrel. Very disappointed, and we are honestly not sure if we will return. read more

My wife and I recently went here for dinner on a Friday night! The restaurant was busy but we were seated immediately ! We had signed up online for early check in! We both had sweet teas to drink. The tea was good! My wife ordered the Smokey southern grilled chicken with hash brown casserole and carrots. I ordered the tips, grilled tenders, and shrimp platter with baked potato and green beans! My wife enjoyed the chicken but it wasn't very moist or flavorful. The flavor is just boring. The grilled chicken tenders were moist and had good flavor. The shrimp are fantastic! We loved the spices mix and flavor in the batter for the shrimp! The green beans were good as always! The sirloin steak tips in garlic butter were terrible! The meat quality was chewy and reminds me of dog food! They were a huge disappointment! We both got peach cobbler for dinner but they forgot the crust pieces! The ice cream and peaches were good though. The take-away of this review is the fried shrimp and grilled chicken tenders are really good! On Dec. 17, 2025 I took my friend for breakfast. I had several bad experiences in September. This time was not any better. My bacon was not crisp had fat turned up on the end not done. When I went to eat my grits there was a hard ball of grits in the bowl that could not break up. That meant I only got maybe 1/3 bowl of grits. The cook is terrible. McDonalds has this place beat. Kitchen sent out a rare burger on Texas toast / sourdough bread as they were " out of buns ". Well been a customer here since they opened and food has been really good with a few misses here and there but consistently pretty good. I'm giving a 2 for service. There are a few servers who do an awesome job but recently stopped in to a not busy restaurant..seated right away. After watching 3 servers bounce around us cleaning tables, rearranging chairs etc for 15 minutes....we asked when we might be waited on and was told our server would be right over. Another 5 minutes and we walked out. I noted that the eggs served were raw. The server politely apologized and returned them to the kitchen. The manager came over and told me that Cracker Barrel only cooks over easy eggs 30 seconds on each side. I suggested that food safety standards require 3 minutes. First time at a Cracker Barrel. Lots of hyped up suggestions but very disappointing. Menu was okay, seems more like a restrictive, more expensive ihop menu. We came Monday around 10-11am and it was packed. I was shocked by the turn out for subpar food. Nothing was seasoned and everything was bland. Service was very slow, took us 45 mins to get our food, we just asked for boxes just to take the food home. We did have mimosas and those were good and came out quick. They only allowed 5 people to order food and the other people had to order after and wait for their food to come after the first set were already eating. I drive here occasionally across the river to Bloomington for a delicious breakfast or lunch, ordering one of my favorite dishes, such as biscuits and gravy, southern fried chicken, or a great hamburger. Arrived inside at approximately 7:30 pm. Waited just shy of 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge me after being seated, in spite of 2 tables of 1, 1 family at a lg round table, 2 tables of 2 and a family leaving while 3 waitresses walked passed me constantly to go into the kitchen. An older waitress took my drink order and brought out a dirty saucer with many lg crumbs on it with 2 lemon slices on it for hot tea. A 2nd waitress took my meal order later and then brought the wrong meal out to me with my ticket. I was told the heat was out in the kitchen. Tea was scalding hot, food was hot and excellent when my order was delivered. However, there were no corn muffins and still after another 30 minutes, no muffins and I wasn't asked for a substitute. Other tables were given credit for issues with their orders. I was not. I paid in cash, left a almost 20% tip and got back on the road. Cracker Barrel has always been my go-to when traveling. Stopped off for lunch with my daughter and grandson. We had breakfast for lunch. I had the Grandma Sampler. Comes with 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 1 bacon, 1 sausage and 1 piece of ham. Plus fried apples OR hashbrown casserole. My daughter had the Momma's big breakfast. Everything was cooked just right. Service was excellent. Prices are average. While in the dining room area no one wore a mask except the servers. In the gift store the majority wore masks. They even give you a mask if you don't have one. Had a long hair wrapped around a piece of broccoli. Server just offered more broccoli. Asked to see the manager at the hostess desk to be told it would be five minutes. After 10 minutes and the manager walking back and forth we just paid and left. We weren't upset or irate, but hoped management would do the right thing, but it was a fail. :(. My buddy invited me to lunch and we ended up here. I thing he dines here often because he knew right away what to order. I followed his recommendation and got grilled cat fish fillet. I have never been a fan of cat fish but this fillet was done very well. Great spices added a little bite. Don't waste your money. High priced, poor service, and food that is just not prepared properly. I went in for breakfast and ordered blueberry pancakes, eggs over easy, and extra crispy bacon. The blueberry pancakes were so tough they had to be cut with a knife. The eggs were just barely cooked enough. And the bacon was so limp I could've swung it around like a string. Love me some down home cooking! Unfortunately they're not keeping up with cleaning. The table was sticky and there was a ton of food all over the floor. Several people including two managers were oblivious to the issue and nobody came to check on how everything was for our table. The gift shop was nicely stocked and staffed well. My first time staying in Morton while traveling for work. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express next door and thought I would pop over for dinner. It was conveniently located across the parking lot of my hotel. I ordered the meatloaf with a side of carrots and hash brown casserole. It was all pretty tasty. It was explained to us that the people at the table available for a large party were done eating and just talking.
