    Meat lover skillet
    Ian C.

Came here with my girlfriend for brunch one Saturday morning. After waiting about 15 minutes we were seated. That's when it went downhill. The waitresses were extremely rude, and could have cared less about the people in the restaurant, but standing chatting and acting like no one was there. The food came out and it was room temperature and very bland. I ordered the skillet and it was overly bland and wasn't worth it. The biscuits and gravy too were blah and seemed to be store bought. My girlfriend ordered the breakfast burrito and she wasn't happy when it came out less than lukewarm. The strong point was the busboy who refilled our drinks and took our orders..he was extremely friendly and saved the meal.

We were needing a nice place to eat after my daughter's EEG at St Francis and, found the Hungry Moose via Google. We were greeted by Jessica when we entered. She was friendly, bubbly and very informative regarding what ingredients were in the items we were wanting to order. The restaurant was clean and tidy with an open floor plan. There is a nice bar that was clean, organized and well lit. There is also a salad bar available. There are 3 eating areas, including the bar area, a side dinning area and an outdoor dining area. They also have a game room for customers if they wish to play slots. The restrooms are clean, well stocked and in the woman's room, tampons are available if a customer has a surprise visit. Starting with the appetizers - We ordered Onion Straws and Pickle Spears. Both came to us hot and well plated. Upon our first taste, we were pleasantly surprised at the flavor and crispness of the breading, especially on the pickles. Next, I had a Lil Salad. Let me say that it was anything BUT little. The lettuce was freshly cut and crisp with no hard white stalks left in the bowl. Tomatoes were fresh and cut into slices and then 1/4s. Fresh grated cheese and homemade ranch dressing topped this beautiful yet simple start to my meal. Entres were: 1. Eggs Benny, they were plated well, hot and soft. My husband took no time in devouring this beautiful breakfast. 2. Pulled Pork BBQ with Moose Chips - At first look, we were shocked to see just how large of a portion you get. The Pulled Pork was fresh made, meat was soft and not over cooked. Bread was soft and not soggy. Chips were crisp and very delicious. 3. Hungry Moose Burger and Fries - Again, the portion size was unexpected. The burger was well done but not dry or greasy. The lettuce was still crisp on the burger and the tomato was fresh. Bread was not soggy. Fries were amazing. My rating for Hungry Moose is: Food 10/10 Service 100/10 - Jessica was AMAZING!!!! Environment 10/10 Location 9/10 Price $$$ but SO worth it. I would definitely recommend this to anyone in the area and I will definitely be back there again. Hopefully soon.

We were greeted by the friendly staff on arrival and was told to sit wherever we wanted. Unfortunately we asked about the soup and was told they did not have any today. I ordered the Moose-Shoe and my guest had the patty melt with homemade chips. The chips were outstanding and gave a very large supply. The server was great and actually recommended trying the cheese dip with the chips. Unfortunately the burger from both plates were overdone and stopped us from rating our experience a five. Definitely worth trying again.

I was looking for a great breakfast after a rough Saturday--gut stung by a yellow jacket an it wasn't petty--and found this restaurant listed on Yelp--I'm new to the area and Yelp is go-to The outside of the restaurant does not do this place justice, but I have learned to not judge a book by its' cover! From The minute I walked in, Staff was friendly and inviting from the bartender with my yellow jacket story be careful because it is prime season for them just so you know--And when I had trouble deciding what I wanted he immediately pointed to one of the cooks who was sitting nearby and he helped me put together a delicious scrambler with a base of biscuit every kind of vegetable thrown in and topped off with gravy--not on the menu of course but they are very flexible about that. It was uper yummy--and enough for two! I'll be back to try other things such as lunch/dinner-/you should as welln

Excellent burgers! We each had the Hungry burger. I had Cole slaw for a side, forgoing the fries, and ordered the burger with no bun. Everything came arrived beautiful and delicious!

Believe the reviews! I came in from out of state for work and decided on the Hungry Moose based on the portion sizes I saw on the Yelp photo section - especially with the pork tenderloin! Wow! I had my mind set walking in that I would get the Chicken Bacon and Cheese sandwich without lettuce and tomato. The very friendly waitress asked if I wanted BBQ sauce instead of those...ummm, of course! Shortly thereafter, my meal came out and it was practically overflowing off the plate! I got a side of the Moose Chips and I had enough to fill a medium sized Ruffles bag!! The sandwich was made with a homemade fried chicken breast which added so much to the sandwich. The fresh bun was a nice touch as well - not your standard hamburger bun...that's for sure! Between the wonderful small-town service and the delicious food...this place needs to make it to the top of your must-try list. No one dined while I was there on a Wednesday at 11am and I heard people at my workplace say they've never heard of them...but don't judge it by the lack of patrons!

The owner/chef came out to introduce himself since he was informed that my wife and I were celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary. This was our first time ever at the restaurant and I am disappointed that while living in Peoria, IL for 50 years I never had been there before. Now it's the only place I will go out to dinner at when I am in Peoria. The address is actually listed as 3218 N. Dries Lane in Peoria, IL and is across from the old Landmark Theatre on Dries Ln. This dish was 57$ and I requested the steak be cooked medium rare but more on the rare side. My steak was bordering blue rare. It tasted amazing regardless. I also wish to add that the plating was sloppy, obviously this is just nit picking, but it is something I wished to include. Service was alright, I had to ask multiple times for my sparkling water that I had ordered. This was during a work party and we had a group of around 10 while the restaurant was already pretty full so I understand how it could have slipped their mind, however at a restaurant as professional as this I would have expected better regardless.

She recommended the Cuban Pulled Pork Sandwich. My sandwich was huge and contained a large portion of pulled pork meat. It was delicious and the homemade chipotle bbq mayo made it all the more satisfying with its rich smoky flavor! The Cuban-style black beans were right out of Miami! Very nicely prepared and included green peas, carrots, corn, and bell peppers, as well. My dining companion, for her part, ordered the Falafel platter, with a side order of gyro meat. The falafel (a dozen), were fresh, tasty, and just the right consistency. These were served with lettuce, onions, tomatoes, pita, and hummus. The side order of gyro meat featured a generous portion of decadently succulent lamb shavings and included two portions of homemade tzatziki sauce. Everything we ate was prepared to perfection and could easily compete with exceptional restaurants in Chicago! Yes, the food at One World is that good. As for the service, our waitress Quincy was friendly and professional. As for the ambiance and decor--we arrived ahead of the lunch crowd, so it was pretty quiet. The decor, however, is nicely done. The premises were clean and well maintained. Ditto the restrooms. The restaurant is actually huge. There are multiple dining areas and in the summer there is an outside patio behind the restaurant, as well. As for pricing and affordability--quality costs, and the food here is definitely a cut above. That being said, the owners have priced the entrees quite reasonably considering the generous portion-size and quality of the food. My overall opinion? If you want a dining experience worthy of comparison to the best Chicagoland has to offer, but don't want to make the long drive--or pay twice as much--then I highly recommend this little gem of a locally-owned restaurant in Peoria!

Review Visit: November 11th, 2014…read more Room and Board in this castle is forever "No Vacancy". Nestled on the corner of a random street in Peoria, you would almost never know this place was here unless you were told about it or randomly drove down the right street. The only way I learned about this place is when I went to pick up my friend Tim one day and accidentally drove a block too far past his house. Tim told me he had been there before and it was pretty good. He said he walked there a few times to get food. I felt betrayed. I felt left out in the cold. As the feeling of betrayal faded, we made plans to go one night. It also happened to be the night Tim was moving. Sometimes we aren't great at planning stuff. We strolled in once we got most of the stuff packed up and loaded in our vehicles. We were greeted by a small yet cozy bar with seating that was just enough for the area. It held maybe 15 comfortably before it would start to feel packed. The bartender told us to take a seat anywhere and she would bring us a menu. In talking with people about Castle's and reading up on it from local online articles, this place is known for it's cheese. We knew that going in, so we ordered some crackers and cheese. This may be the first and only place that serves Ritz-style crackers to go along with their legendary cheese. There is always some hesitation when you are about to try something a place is well-known for. That happened here. Tim and his brother wasted no time digging in to the cheese and crackers. I grabbed my cracker and contemplated on how I was going to dip it, how much I was going to scoop and how big of a bite I was going to take. Okay, maybe that didn't happen but I did take that first bite rather slowly as I wanted to fully dedicate my taste buds to what I was about to experience. The cheese was good. I can see why people raved about it. It had a bit of that "made with love" added to it that your grandma's cookies also have. And before I knew it, the cheese and crackers were gone and the food we ordered was in front of us. I don't remember exactly what I ordered (looks like a pulled pork?) but I remember thinking it was pretty standard bar food, which is a compliment in my book. Bar food is cheap, usually 150% unhealthy for you, and full of flavor and deliciousness. Castle's Patio Inn was that. The fries were fries. Nothing fancy but something that I bet would be good dipped in the cheese. We didn't really get to experience the bar part of Castle's but that is totally fine. You can come here and sit at the bar and converse with the bartender about life's many issues or you can snag a table with your family for some cheap bar food and some exquisite cheese. Americans. We sure do love our cheese.

We ended up staying there talking for a couple of hours to catch up, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. While there are lots of great options on the menu, both of us chose the BPT - Breaded Pork Tenderloin. I've eaten a lot of breaded pork tenderloins in my time, but none like this one. The usual approach is super thin and huge, making the bun look tiny. While this one wasn't much larger than the bun, it was at least an inch thick, so it was more like eating a fried pork chop sandwich, but with the meat tenderized. The meat was well-seasoned and very flavorful, and the crust was extra-crispy and crunchy. The Honey-Lime sauce (one of three sauces brought to each table along with Ranch and Tyler's Sauce) is delicious and worked great with the pork. Fries were good, as was the cole slaw (which had a nice kick from some very freshly-ground black pepper). And I'm always happy when a place has Guinness on tap.

From the get go the atmosphere was great, there was a short queue (but it was a Friday night, so it's to be expected), but we were quickly shown to our table. Our server was Connor, who was great from the start and was very flexible with our large group who had a few dietary preferences/requirements. One of our favorite things about the menu is the focus on utilizing local businesses and serving their products. As most locals know Bill's Lemon Shake Ups are a staple in the region so when I saw that on the menu I had to go for that, and with multiple flavor choices I was excited to try. I ended up settling for the tenderloin sandwich, but I was certainly interested to try a lot of the menu. The amount of pork was HUGE and it was flavorful and paired with the honey lime sauce it was a 10/10! The bun alone was phenomenal, and I couldn't recommend this meal enough if you are a schnitzel or tenderloin fan! That sauce is definitely a star of the show, paired with the sweet heat seasoning available at the table next to the S&P the meal was the perfect combination of sweet, spice and tasty! Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well and there was little left by the end. The nachos were customized to account for a dietary preference so this is not the standard, however they were delicious and a huge portion. The pizza was thin crust and was excellent too, so no notes across the board. Thanks once again to Connor for accommodating us and being so patient with our party. You can also purchase any of the three major sauces that they have in house, so I proceeded to buy the honey lime which we'll be enjoying for the next few weeks, if it makes it that long!

And we highly recommend a visit, especially if you are familiar with the brand! Like the BloNo location there are at least two entrances - the one further west is for a good sized hosting/ordering/waiting area while the one closest to the ballpark has more direct access to the bar area, but is way more space-restricted and will likely be a traffic jam on game days. If you're looking for a table, both entrances open to the rest of the cool 'industrial chic' dining areas in the form of a large street-level open concept dining area and a good sized split-level (up 3-4 steps) back room - which despite having wide entrances that make it feel part of the larger space, likely can easily be cordoned-off for private functions. One visit in and the lady and I (plus our friend and former Ptown bartender) can say that the food was every bit the same top-quality, large portion, methodically cooked and creatively accented sandwiches and wraps, served in old school pie pans with red-white check paper liners, that we are used to. The weekend special shaved ribeye Cali burrito was particularly epic, cementing what seems to be the first of the 3 or 4 things that keep the crowds coming back. The second thing is the creativity and discernment applied to bar side - in the form of the beer menu, which is initially focused on bottles/cans since they just received the liquor license the day before our arrival. Despite this there was a good mix of 'domestics' and at least 20 quality craft options from 6 or 8 fantastic breweries representing a good variety of styles but leaning like those at the original location - that is, a few more IPAs and 'sweet sours'. They also maintain a thoughtful and inventive cocktail list and will NO DOUBT start building up the whiskey/bourbon collection in the coming weeks. Although having high quality and fairly compensated employees helps immensely, the last thing that really drives their business is something we often say three times - location... In this case, it's literally less than a block from home plate. Easy to find. Easy to love. We'll certainly be back!
