Nice bar area in the restaurant

We had a pretty good breakfast here- the service was amazing. The food was fine. I had the breakfast burrito and hash browns. The potatoes were a little under seasoned and the burrito was fine. It was pretty big and full of good stuff. My companion had the avocado toast and an egg which was also good. The seasoned potatoes seemed like again they could have used more seasoning. The coffee was ok- but as I said the staff was great and the place is nice inside and sparkling clean.

It's been a long time since I've been to Peoria. Before heading out, we stopped at Eggcellent. It was a busy morning, but we only waited less than 10 minutes. We ended up at the bar, which was good, because it was quieter. I ordered coffee, pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, and french toast. The french toast was slightly undercooked. That was fine. Honestly, it's hard to get it perfect. The staff was super friendly. I did appreciate they used Lysol to sanitize the table/counter. Good food, give it a try. Only warning, parking can be tough if it's busy.

Excited to check out Eggcellent Café for breakfast, and it delivered in some ways. The location is convenient with plenty of parking, and the wait was surprisingly short for a Sunday morning--though it got busier as time went on. There is limited space and seating inside, so timing is key to avoid long waits. The service was great! My server was attentive and even brought the check before I finished, which I appreciated, though others might find it a bit rushed. I ordered the Carnivore Skillet with bacon, sausage, ham, American cheese, and a side of biscuits and gravy. The flavors were great, but the food was lukewarm and the cheese was unmelted which took away from the experience. I'd return to try more items, but I hope they step up on serving hot dishes next time!

On our way out of Peoria after a wedding weekend, we were looking for some brunch and Eggcellent Cafe obliged. It was a beautiful day so we decided to sit outside. Frustratingly, there were quite a few flies that were pretty annoying. Once we ordered, the food came out super quickly. The potatoes were a hit and well worth picking over any other side. My eggs were delicious as well and the Eggcellent house hot sauce is super unique. It's the right mix of flavor and spice that it doesn't overpower the rest of the dish.

Review Visit: August 20th, 2022 Eggcellent Cafe was... mostly excellent. It was a nice and dreary day that started with the slightest of hangovers from a wedding the night before and a yearning for something delicious to fill our empty bellies. Doug suggested we try this place as he wanted to sample a place that wasn't a national chain. It had been on my list for awhile now so next thing I knew, we were snapping a fun photo with the sign and heading in for some food. I had been in this specific building before when it was Crust Pizza. I was instantly reminded how small the location was when we walked in and saw that seating was limited and tables were somewhat close to together. Things were far enough away where you could have a conversation with your company but it could easily be heard by the people next to you if you listened well enough. We were seated at a table and lucky us, we got there when the restaurant was half-full as within 30 minutes, every table was full and people were being seated outside. Our server was super perky and took our drink order and food order within a reasonable time despite running her tail off. Doug ordered the Irish Benny and I got the Eggcellent Combo. The cooks must've been in a good groove as we got our food in a relatively short order considered how busy it was. There was a bit of a funny moment when the waitress put my pancakes down in front of me and then came back a second later to top off my coffee and I tried to move my cup out of her way because I thought she had syrup in her hand and was going to douse my pancakes with it... but it was the coffee pot and she had to chase my cup around the table to fill it as I sleepily tried to keep moving it out of her way. Once my cup was filled and I was given the actual syrup container, Doug and I dug in. My meal being just two pancakes, two eggs, and two bacon strips (which I gave one to Doug cause he was eyeing it), it wasn't mindblowing delicious but it was just what a sleep-deprived-and-slightly-hungover me needed. The applewood bacon had a nice crispiness to it and the pancakes had a buttery smoothness to them. Doug on the other hand was in love from first bite. He has some culinary schooling so he knows that nuances to look for and Eggcellent Cafe knocked them out of the park for him. He raved about how his hash browns were nice and crispy, how his biscuits were homemade and how the basics were done to perfection. He loved the place so much that he looks forward to visiting again when he comes back next year for our usual beerfest shenanigans. He let me sample the hash browns and they did have a nice crisp to them. I took a spoonful of his sausage and gravy and while it didn't knock my socks off, it did for Doug. The theme of the restaurant was, to me, a bit of a hybrid of a coffeehouse, a diner, and something else. I couldn't quite place my finger on what it made me think of but it was all very nice, new, and well taken care of. I didn't get to snap as many interior photos as I wanted to be courteous to those who were eating and those who were being seated/leaving. I was quite surprised at how busy it was considering the location leaves a bit to be desired. It's not hard to get to the restaurant, it's just tucked away enough that you might overlook it or not be in the right spot to see it. The pricing is a bit higher than I eggpected but the place definitely delivers a higher quality meal than, say, a diner might. This is really an eggcellent place to get breakfast, even if my meal was more simple. I have some other friends that are interested in checking it out so maybe I will sample their lunch menu if and when we drop in.

We got here at 9:45 on Labor Day and were seated right away. Service is prompt. So was the food prep. Service is the best I have had for a long time. We will definitely recommend this place to others

We were leaving Peoria headed to Chicago to catch our flight but had a little extra time and looked for somewhere to eat. When we arrived the line looked way out the door, there were so many people waiting and we were worried it would take forever, but we didn't want Panera so we took our chances here. We were sat almost immediately being only a party of 2. The server was sat 3-4 tables at almost the same time and she went from one to the other like clockwork. She gathered everyone's drink orders and had our drinks out very quick. After that she went to the tables in the same order for food. She was very efficient, very kind and smiled through it all despite how chaotically busy it seemed. When I tell you we were there less than 15 minutes before our food came out I'm not lying. From the time we sat down we had our drinks and food in 15 minutes or less. The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. Service was spectacular and we were so glad we decided to take the chance with the line because they had things streamlined so well. On the rare chance we ever come back to Peoria, we will definitely stop in again.

South of the boarder (I don't know why they spell it like that.) Benedict. Two thumbs up.

Being a waitress in my 20's, I know how a big party can be a struggle. The reason I picked Thyme was due to some dietary restrictions. Thyme serves all. I recommend Thyme for business meeting lunches and dinners. Make a reservation ahead of time so they can accommodate your needs. Love to see old buildings brought back to life, Thyme, in the old Sealtest building, sits in the warehouse district of downtown Peoria. The eclectic atmosphere is inviting. The food is traditional yet exotic, yet farm to table, yet mysterious! We eat with our eyes, then smell, then taste. Good job Thyme!

Second time coming back we brought the in-laws from our home town in Arizona. Keep in mind we are new here and excited to embrace this new city and all its food places just like this. It was a Tuesday night and they were busy, not so busy that we had to wait for a table, we got right in. The blond girl that was to be our server came to take our drink order. I was on the fence for a few items so I asked the server, "When the cooks in this place get a moment to themselves to enjoy a dish, which is it they usually get?" She assured me without a doubt it was not the burger I was comparing but the duck reuben. Being a fan of both duck and Reuben's I was like, " oh hell yeah, sign me up". So I replied I'll have the Reuben, mom got meatloaf, dad got the burger, wife got the poke bowl. We had a few drinks enjoyed each other's company and then our appetizers came, the cheese curds!! Holy smokes these were legit the star of the evening! If you go I recommend these! Our food came out after and we began to eat. This is the point it went south! The server all but vanished. Usually you can't get a bite in before your asked how is it? Well we needed silverware, napkins, salt and pepper, basic accoutrements. Nobody came. My Reuben..... BORING!! This was the smallest plate of food I've ever seen. The duck was overcooked and dry, there was not a good ratio of slaw to dressing to duck and it was lacked all the way around. I was hoping to ask for some more dressing to bring some life to it but the server never came. Mom wanted salt and pepper for her meatloaf, but the server never came. Finally I was able to get S&P from a busser! The poke bowl was kinda a joke as well, huge bowl of rice and peas and about 3 or 4 small bits of tuna. It was good but not balanced and completely underwhelming. Folks are boomers so yeah considering mom needed to help meatloaf says a lot. But still no server! Finally she came back with the bill. At which point I had to mention that this was by far the WORST Reuben I have EVER had!! She giggled. I said SERIOUSLY, that was wack AF, and you never came back to check on us so I couldn't even attempt a save by dousing it in dressing! She ignored that and disappeared, yup the shitty Reuben was still there on the bull and nobody cared! Moral of the story, you're gonna gamble here. I would love to try again but when you can get a Reuben at One World that blows it out of the water EVERYTIME for a fraction of the price I would second guess giving your money to this business. Bummer, I love the building, I love the ice cream factory throw back! And the ambience is super nice! Service and portioning need a lot more investigation. Hey owner this is your queue!! Make a positive change here.

This place 520 has become our family breakfast on Saturday mornings when we visit. The place is always busy. Sometimes we gotta wait on a table but they usually move pretty quick. As I was paying he fiddled with the register and as he gave me my change he slipped me a gift card. I was kinda taken back a little and we talked a little more then I went back to the table to finish our coffee to get ready to leave. I got to say the staff here is spot on. She recommended the Cuban Pulled Pork Sandwich. My sandwich was huge and contained a large portion of pulled pork meat. It was delicious and the homemade chipotle bbq mayo made it all the more satisfying with its rich smoky flavor! The Cuban-style black beans were right out of Miami! Very nicely prepared and included green peas, carrots, corn, and bell peppers, as well. My dining companion, for her part, ordered the Falafel platter, with a side order of gyro meat. The falafel (a dozen), were fresh, tasty, and just the right consistency. These were served with lettuce, onions, tomatoes, pita, and hummus. The side order of gyro meat featured a generous portion of decadently succulent lamb shavings and included two portions of homemade tzatziki sauce. Everything we ate was prepared to perfection and could easily compete with exceptional restaurants in Chicago! Yes, the food at One World is that good. As for the service, our waitress Quincy was friendly and professional. As for the ambiance and decor--we arrived ahead of the lunch crowd, so it was pretty quiet. The decor, however, is nicely done. The premises were clean and well maintained. Ditto the restrooms. The restaurant is actually huge. There are multiple dining areas and in the summer there is an outside patio behind the restaurant, as well. As for pricing and affordability--quality costs, and the food here is definitely a cut above. That being said, the owners have priced the entrees quite reasonably considering the generous portion-size and quality of the food. My overall opinion? If you want a dining experience worthy of comparison to the best Chicagoland has to offer, but don't want to make the long drive--or pay twice as much--then I highly recommend this little gem of a locally-owned restaurant in Peoria!
