    Treasure Island Burger

Burger Barge continues to be a family favorite when we're in the Peoria area. We did note some changes at this recent visit that I thought would be good to highlight. First the menu was literally smaller in size, appeared to have fewer options, and prices hav increased (like at many other establishments). That didn't seem to impact our ability to find favorites and even try two new offerings. My husband went for the Big Bacon Lucy (one of his favorites), my daughter tried the new Bourbon Burger, and I went for the new Treasure Island Burger. The sauce of the Bourbon burger was spot on and really added to the flavor of the meat without overpowering it. The combo of items on mine was great together: Swiss cheese, ham, bacon, grilled pineapple, 1000 island dressing, and don't forget the plank sauce

Probably my fault for ordering a salad from a burger place but holy sh#t this was disgusting. I've never gotten a salad you had to eat with a spoon before.

I started my journey with the Bloody Mary Bar, where they give you vodka in a plastic glass and you can add your own ingredients. For a total cost of $3:00, this was a great deal! I ordered the Lucy Burger and tater Tots and my guest ordered the Original BB Cheese Burger with fries. One suggestion is to offer onion's with the Lucy, I asked the waitress for some and in my opinion it made the sandwich better. Great place for a burger, it was cold the day we came and they propped the door open to the back room area which made the main room colder. Looking forward to warmer weather.

Doesn't this look great? Tons of sugar and some booze. Not too much rum in this.

Review Visit: February 17th, 2015…read more Silver Bullet in name only. There are no werewolf threats here! In fact, they don't sell anything gun related. Just yum related. Silver Bullet is a nickname for Coors Light. Which, in talking to friends, used to be hard to come by in this area back in the day. So maybe this place is named as a tribute to that beer? The Silver Bullet has been in East Peoria for as long as I know. As a kid, I remember this place being here, because I would visit the Co-Op Store next door (music store) to pick up some cds and music memorabilia. It was called Silver Bullet, Too at one point, but I am unaware if there was a second location. Once my friends and I turned 21, we started to visit this place, so the Initial Date is a bit misleading. My friends and I have been here many times before and after the photo you see above. Each time has been a great memory filled with deliciously cheap food, great drinks and a friendly staff. My friend Maria and I actually spent NYE 2016 here, counting in 2017 and despite it being slow in the bar, we had a blast. So what does the Silver Bullet offer? Well it has really good bar food at bar prices. I would actually come here with an ex-girlfriend just to get a good meal and shoot the breeze for a few hours. It has slots, a pool table or two, slots and some golf gaming machine. I will say that what I expected was a dumpy/low key bar since it's in a strip of stores and the outside is kind of plain. But once you step in, it almost has a restaurant feel as it is more upscale and everything is in really great shape. There is even a Beer Garden/Patio that you can go out and enjoy your beers while smoking or taking in the great Illinois weather. Sorry, this blog post has been all over the place. To me, Silver Bullet is like a real life Cheers bar. Just a fun and friendly place to go for some food and libations. So if you need a good bite and are in East Peoria for some reason, check out Silver Cheers... I mean Silver Bullet for an enjoyable time... Unless you are a werewolf! Hoooowwwwllllll!

My husband ordered the Jambalaya Mac & Cheese 'without the crab'. The server never mentioned that the dish was pre-mixed or that omitting the crab wasn't possible. When our food arrived, she set down a Lobster Mac & Cheese instead. My husband hates lobster, so there would have been no reason for him to ask for "no crab" if that was what he wanted. When he pointed out the mistake, our server, Kris, initially argued with him instead of fixing her mistake. She eventually took it back, but it was another 20 minutes before his meal arrived. By then, I had already finished eating, so we weren't able to enjoy our meal together. I also had an issue with my Hawaiian Chicken Sandwich. Because of a medical condition, I can't eat the bun, so I cut the chicken up and eat it with a fork. That turned out to be nearly impossible because the restaurant only provides plastic forks and knives. While struggling to cut the chicken, my entire plate ended up in my lap. Kris didn't seem very familiar with the menu, and the overall service left a lot to be desired. Everyone has an off day, but for a first visit this wasn't a good impression and they weren't busy at the time. Between the incorrect order, the long wait to fix it, and the lack of proper utensils, we left disappointed and will probably choose somewhere else next time.

Review Visit: April 15th, 2015…read more It's a wonder it took me so long to try this place out. To be honest, I somehow didn't know this place existed. Yes, I have drove past it a million times over the years but somehow it just blended in to the background of life. It's not that I purposefully ignored the place, it just failed to register on my radar until a friend reminded me about it. Long story short with some possible errors. There is a legendary hot dog chili recipe that is circulating around Central Illinois. This was originally obtained at the Velvet Freeze but that restaurant has long since closed. At some point the recipe changed hands or was sold and was now available at "The Original" Wonderdog. Or a variant of said recipe. With that fresh on my mind after talking about Velvet Freeze with my friends Tim and Matt, I decided to check out what the fuss was about. (If you are familiar with this chili sauce story, please comment below if the above is wrong or incorrect in any way.) My girlfriend and I decided to check it out one afternoon that we both had off and were itching to try something new. As we entered, I thought something I don't like to think when entering a place of food consumption. "This place feels dirty." Indeed, something about this place felt dirty. I remember the walls having a sad look to them that a fresh coat of paint would help fix. There was also a feeling of grease in the air and a look of despair about the place. We looked at each other with questions we didn't need to speak to answer. We nodded and approached the counter to place an order. I just had to try out the legendary or derivative chili sauce. I did that by ordering a chili dog and a tenderloin. I figured with the uneasy feeling we got upon walking in, I would try two different things just in case there was an issue with one of them. We snagged a table and waited for our food. Since we were the only ones eating in, it didn't take too long for the food to come out. I will just say that the chili dog looked really sad as it sat in front of me. You can see it below. The desire to try the secret sauce was slowly fading as I sat there, staring at my sad looking chili dog. But, I try to not let that bother me. It could look sad but taste fantastic. But, did it? It was alright, actually. The taste wasn't sad but it wasn't worth the fervent following the chili sauce has, in my opinion. The taste was no better than what I would make at home, which isn't much of a compliment since I am just an average chef. I moved on to the tenderloin and that was a notch above the chili dog. It was on the level of what you expect from a small town eatery. "The Original" Wonderdog is one of those places that you stop in for a quick meal that doesn't break the bank nor astound you in the flavor department. It's not a place I would come to first for a dog or tenderloin, but its not a place I would avoid should I be with someone who was wanting to go. Shoot, maybe the place has been spruced up a bit since 2015. I really do hope that the history of the famous chili sauce is correct above (or close to it) or I am going to have to completely re-evaluate my visit and redo this entire post. Does your local area have something it's known for?

There was only one other occupied table--a group of six young men--and a few people at the bar, so it wasn't busy. Our food came out fairly quickly, which was one of the few positives. My partner ordered the bison burger because he'd never tried one before. I grew up eating bison and know what a properly cooked bison burger should be like. This one was incredibly dry,far drier than it should have been. Unfortunately, our server disappeared after dropping off the food. She never returned to check whether everything was correct, ask if we needed anything, or see how the meal was. We waited and waited, but she never came back. Eventually my partner went to the bar and asked to speak with the manager. When the manager came to our table, it turned out to be our server. The same server who had ignored us while spending plenty of time chatting and flirting with the table of young men. She approached carrying the check, not asking what the issue was or how she could help. When we explained that the burger was extremely dry, she argued that it didn't look dry to her. I spoke up because I had tried it too, and it absolutely was dry. Then she claimed that bison burgers are *supposed* to be dry. If that's the case, why argue that it wasn't dry in the first place? After a back-and-forth discussion, she finally agreed to let my partner order something else. The bigger issue, though, was the service. In my 50-plus years, this was one of the most unfriendly and unprofessional server/manager interactions I've ever experienced. It takes a lot for me to complain or argue with restaurant staff, but this situation was handled poorly from start to finish. This was our first visit to Khaki Jack's, and unfortunately it will also be our last.
