Overall, experience was a little overwhelming - seemingly everything on their menu has onions in it, and their biscuits and gravy even tasted like a raw green onion, little to no other flavor. Their coffee was okay at best, but $7 for an average, small latte.........get real. I've been to other locations a couple times and absolutely loved the food, so I brought a friend to the new location to try it out. Luckily for her, she loved everything she got. I on the other hand was a bit disappointed. We ordered some drinks, she got an oolong tea and I ordered an iced lavender latte...I got a hot one, but drank it anyway. It was pretty good. We also got the bacon lollipops for an appetizer and were completely in love with them. Would definitely order again. For our meals, she got street tacos with butternut squash and kale and some really tasty chips. I got a steak and potato frittata. It was supposed to have chimichurri sauce and Parmesan on the top and potatoes....none of that was there. Also, they'd asked how I wanted my steak cooked, I asked for medium and got well done. Had brunch this morning. Sat promptly and waitress took drink order. Took about 10 minutes for her to bring pot of coffee. My food was decent, my husband ordered eggs benedict (sauce separated from sitting under heat lamp) and home fries (was given French fries). Our waitress Brittany H was inattentive to us (she did not deliver food to table, nor check that all was okay until we were finished eating). She dropped the bill on the table and while I'm still finishing up, reaches across me to remove plates! She also stood next to table as we paid and said if you want a receipt you can have one printed up there. Just all around horrible experience today. We will stick with the Junction City location and Brittany H may be best suited in a bar slinging drinks. read more

Happy to have another Childers location. Very crowded on the Sunday I went to dine there. The food was good, the wait staff did ok but the staff that delivered our food didn't know what he was carrying. Our black bean dip had a carrot that wasn't fully cleaned and peeled. I'm optimistic it will get better and was overall happy. read more

The location at Grand Prairie is very nice. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is clean. Love to go there for breakfast. Although I usually always order the same, the dish various sometimes a lot. But it's always good. Love their large kids meals. Almost adult burgers and fries for just 4.99$. It can get quite busy for lunch and weekend breakfast, but it's worth the wait read more

While visiting Peoria we found this place on Yelp. We were lucky we got there when we did, the wait was less than 5 minutes for three of us even though they were very busy. We heard the wait grew to 50minutes not too long after we got there. Food was amazing and plentiful. The service was good. The espresso machine was down at the time; however there were plenty of other great drink options. We tried the Cafe Ole and the Black Cheri Yuzu Mimosa. We will definitely visit again. read more

I was going to take a pass on this place simply due to the reviews, however I quickly realized that the reviews were based on a "new" opening and I'm sure they were working out the kinks. Service was great, food was fantastic, coffee was strong and hot! To top it off, I wouldn't expect to find cheese grits in Peoria, but the chef knocked it out of the park! Thought I was in Georgia with those grits. My only complaint, which resulted in the 4 stars was the orange juice... yes, fresh squeezed, however I felt that $5 for MAYBE 8oz (closer to 6oz) was about $3 too much! Take a lesson from the pancake place across the street that serves a pint glass of juice for the same price. read more

Came here for breakfast. Floors were dirty. Silverware was not washed properly. 3 adults meals and 1 kids meal. Took 33 minutes according to the kitchen manager. Who tells us normally they have 6 cooks and they are down to 3. I asked her why did that table that came in after us, get served before us. She goes ahead and acknowledges this did happen, and brushed it off by offering a gift card. Never coming back here. Go to the pancake house across the street and save yourself a lot of time. I wanted to love this place. It fell short. It was pretty busy on a Saturday morning but it's way overpriced for what you get. Took almost 40 minutes for an omelet, crispy dry toast, French toast and a breakfast skillet. It was good, but for $46.00 it was NOT worth it. We all had water to drink as well. Also, the food runner was a larger guy with a full beard and longer hair. Seems kind of against health department standards.Do yourself a favor and hit up the pancake house. This restaurant has been one of our favorites.. Gr8 food and choices. We always enjoyed their Junction city location in Peoria.. more spacious and accommodating staff. The Grand Prairie location has much to improve upon though.. been there two Saturday mornings in last few weeks now.. once close to 11am and today around 9:45am.... waiting period can be really long, they don't provide buzzers, so you can't venture out much in the mall. Sitting area for those waiting is limited. Our server today was slow and clearly overwhelmed. Took 15 mins to just bring coffee. No water was served to few of the guests at our table. No crayons provided with the coloring sheets. The lady who brought the omelettes out was rude and extremely unprofessional.. two of the guests ordered Truffled vegetarian omelette, one without goat cheese.. so the lady was screaming 'regular veggie' when within our group we were scrambling to figure out which omelette is she talking about.. they need to stick to the names on the menu.. if they are in such a hurry to dump the food and get going. I was disappointed with the service, though food tasted good. Not sure if I want to take my family back to this location. read more

I've been going to Childers since I was a child. I love the food and the atmosphere. This new location is great! It's always hard to expand a business and I think so far it's coming along! The entire is modern and I was impressed with their creative menu. Their tea selection was very nice. I ordered the macha which was very delectable. The Darjeeling tea was also presented at proper temperature for a tea of its type. The bottom pour tea pot it was prepared in was a nice touch and showed me they took there tea seriously. The chilaquiles verdad was very tasty the only this I would add to this dish is the traditional green chill served with it. The bacon gouda lollipops were delicious but a little pricy for only getting five. The service was prompt and when we said we were in a hurry when we sat down they remembered and gave us our check early which was very convenient. Great Place! I had the Breakfast Burger and it was everything it should be! The seasoned fries were hot, crispy, and delicious. The wait staff is friendly and on point. Covid measures were followed and we felt comfortable while we ate. Bravo to all involved in our experience. We will definitely be back for more great food, great service, and fun atmosphere. I really love the other two Childer's locations at Junction City and University and was excited to have a location so close to home and took the family. The coffee was horrendously weak, bit we didn't get a chance to complain because the waitress ghosted us for 25 minutes after we got our coffee and placed our order. So, the food cone, and everyone gets their order but me. My mother is missing her English muffin. We complain again and someone comes from the back and tosses an English muffin on my mother's plate BY HAND. There was a huff and a puff and it was almost like she threw the muffin on her plate, "here is your damn muffin." My breakfast burger came out later, but now its overcooked and I ordered rare. The manager came out and gave us an attitude. I expect alot more for the premium prices here. What a horrible experience. This location needs immediate work and is not comparable to the others. Do NOT recommend yet, they need more time to get the ship running right. read more

3 others and myself went on a Sunday. Keep in mind this was all of ours first experience with this restaurant. Hardly any people at the place. We were seated and the waitress came to get our drink order. A question was asked "what are the options" no answer was given from the waitress. An awkward 2 minutes of silence sent by. The waitress then stated "all waters GREAT!" Then proceed to walk away. Minutes went by and waters finally arrived (that were not ordered). We asked for a different waitress at that time. The waitress then asked why we requested a different waitress. After an explanation was given the waitress proceeded to argue with all 4 of us. We walked out and did not order. If it was possible to give 0 stars that would be great. None of us will be returning. Waitress staff needs to work on interpersonal skills as well as replying to questions. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. To preface: we are from the area and love to dine locally. Having always heard great things about Childer's, and being out at the Shoppes for holiday shopping as it were, we decided to stop in and see what the new location has to offer. The only saving grace about this place is the decor as it is incredibly aesthetically pleasing. However, that is where the pleasant experience stops. From start to finish we were left unsatisfied. We were sent to a table for 5-because the hostess thought we would be more comfortable-there were two of us and her comment to us was that they do this so that their larger guests are comfortable. She sat our menus down and walked away before we were even seated. Ten minutes later our server comes for our drink order. She does not introduce herself and she does not ask if we have been there before or offer suggestions. It takes a moment to get our drinks and she is off before asking if we want to order. We order, our coffees empty, and she does not ask if we want any more. We try to get the attention of three other waitresses over half an hour to get refills. At this point we were going to pay for our coffees and leave when she hears us say this she returns. Our coffees refilled, we wait another 20 minutes for our food. This was the second biggest disappointment of the experience. Everything was cold, and some things under cooked or over cooked. We had eggs, French toast, and chicken and waffles. The eggs were cold and under done. The French toast was hard and cold, the syrup had congealed and was cold as well. The chicken was over done, so crispy it was hard to cut through, and the waffle just as cold as the French toast. The food came with butter which was not at all melted on any of it. We asked for the bill and it took another 20 minutes to get out of the building. Again hardly spoken to, not asked about our experience, and entirely dismissed. All around this was the worst dining experience we have ever had in the greater Peoria area and we will not be returning. It is understood they have only been open roughly a month but as Childer's is a Peoria institution there are certain expectations which were far from even being met. read more
