    Md crab soup
    Allen P.

The Crab Barn is a hidden gem in Long Neck. Obviously the locals know it well. We were down for long weekend, decided to have all the crabs you can eat. The Crab Barn was close so we gave it a try. For April the local crabs were heavy, fat and sweet. Their spice blend is a perfect mix of old bays, salt and pepper flakes. The cream of crab soup was very good. The homemade hush puppies are served with a savory honey butter and the steamed Shrimp were prepared perfectly, served with their own cocktail sauce. We enjoyed it so much we took a friend back on Friday. Steamed Crabs, Bar B q Ribs and Flounder again were very good. So much so, we were back again Saturday. Maryland Crab Soup, my personal favorite, soft shell crab sandwich and flounder sandwiches. Again all were excellent. Ashley and the rest of the staff are great. They know the menu and are glad you're there. The singer Thursday night was very good. 70's, 80's with a few contemporary songs thrown in. The DJ Friday night was very entertaining. Particularly when he was dancing to Elvis with one of the locals. This is a classic Lower Slower Delaware treat. The locals of which there were many seemed to appreciate we were there. Easy to get to, less than 10 miles from Lewes and Rehoboth. There is plenty of parking. The Crab barn has local hangout feel and it is...Perfect.

They need a chef, they have a home cook. Not impressed. Actually disappointed. I was hoping for a quality option on long neck.

Our meal included: - Marinier Mussels (shared) - Brewhouse Pretzel (my wife loves pretzels) - Brewhouse wings (shared) - Cheese Burger + Fries (for our youngest) - Birria Flatbread (for our oldest) Overall the food was good and everyone enjoyed what they had. I had one of their dark beers (I think it was a chocolate porter) and my wife had a margarita. The girls wanted something sweet so they got the chocolate cake and a Smores Cheesecake. I think this was their favorite part of the meal because they were slightly reluctant to share. The wait staff were great and very attentive. Overall we had a good experience and would recommend.

And the bacon was overcooked too. This was a Saturday at dinner, maybe 2/5 full so it's not like it was crowded and the kitchen was slammed. Food took too long to come out also, but now I know why, they were overcooking the burger. Slaw was ok, wouldn't get it again. And, I didn't order fries but still got two of them on my plate. The salad was fine. Beer choices were good. Looks like a place to watch a game and throw back a few cold ones but I would not eat here again. Waiter was minimally polite, and it seemed like he had better things to do at times.

Overall, it has just the right feel of a clubhouse restaurant, where families can enjoy and business people can impress. The food is very good with clear (and larger font) menus that identify allergens and sensitivities. The prices are certainly in line with the area, but with much better service and presentation. I had a mixed field greens salad with grilled chicken breast and it was twice the size I expected and couldn't finish. Everyone enjoyed their meals and it was nowhere near as expensive as I would have thought. We're adding this to our rotation. The setting is lovely, the food is excellent and the service was outstanding. If I were to make a suggestion, please consider offering half sized portions. We hate wasting food!

It would be 1star if it was not for the ambiance, the scenery and me being with my 2 birthday girls..... Here is the long story because I feel like writing today. First, I was called in the morning to confirm our reservation. I was asked to come early because it is wedding season. I don't know what wedding season has to do with a reservation made a couple days ahead of time on their website but...OK, we went early. On that confirmation call the caller mentioned my note of it being both my mom's (96) & my wife's (??) birthday - which I acknowledged. I thought it funny they asked if you are celebrating something on the rez site, then they acknowledge it 'to me' during the confirmation call, but not even a "welcome & happy birthday" from the maître d' or our waiter to the 2 birthday girls. At 96 my mom appreciates the attention and this is why I put it down. It's not really a big deal but let's just say 'strike one' because it was not at all crowded our whole dining time and the wedding was upstairs. Second, after dropping off my mom, (96 bday) & wife and parking the car, I sat down at the table, was handed a menu by our waiter and was immediately asked -"are you ready to order." Come on dude, have a clue....strike two. You are not a "two eggs and sausage" diner. We ordered drinks. The waiter then gave us plenty of time to finish our 1st drinks and then watch most of the ice melt before he came back to take our dinner orders. Again, it was not crowded at all. This was just a foul tip and not the strike out, let's say. The food took a reasonable amount of time to come out. Baywood has a small, and reasonably priced menu. No complaints there unless you don't like french fries, or salt fries, as they call them. The mound of fries on each plate was twice as big as each entree. A mound of french fries at what is supposed to be "fine dining" is just lazy, unimaginative and an "I don't care" fine dining restaurant attitude, imo. The crab dip appetizer had a fair amount of grease, or butter, or mayo floating on top and did lack the crab meat. I'm guessing they put Old Bay on the homemade chips so 'it seems' as though you are eating crab. I did notice at least one piece of crab though. The ribs were very fatty and they were 'fall off the bone'. Maybe this was because the weight of the fat wore the meat down off the bone. So, after eating and never seeing our waiter, we sit and talk. After this we sat and talked some more. The finally we sat and talked some more. Again there were 2 open tables right next to us the whole night. And, while going to the men's room, I noticed the other dining area was sparsely crowded also. The bar area did look crowded with golfers but this should not have affected the dining areas or our dining experience. The two dining area I saw could have easily accommodated at least 50 more people in just those 2 rooms. Finally, our waiter comes back. I then went to the parking lot to drive the car up to valet my 2 birthday girls while asking my wife to pay. Hey, it's her birthday. Why shouldn't she pay? I, AGAIN!!!, had to wait maybe 10 -15 minutes out at the front door for them to come out. They mentioned the waiter left the check and disappeared again. They, after waiting a good bit of time, actually had to go find the waiter to pay. Strike three..."you're outta here". Well, we are out of there, and won't be back. Baywood is not "fine dining". It is reasonably priced bar food. It is a beautiful golf course with fair bar food, bad service and even worse bottled mixer drinks. Do not go with any higher expectations.

To ME, this is not a 4 or 5 star establishment at all. I appreciated the eastethic of the place...it was relaxed but a lot of the diners were dressed nicely. However, why did the hostess have on a hoodie?! This is very strange considering (for the area) this is what they consider a higher end restaraunt. I absolutely hated sitting outside! People will talk about NYC being ghetto....Our table was literally right next to the waiting area. This guy almost hit me because he was that close to our table. smh but we are in times where establishments want to make money on every inch of available space. Take that into consideration if there is only seating outside, which may not be a biggie for others. The food: the bang bang shrimp was VERY heavy on the mayo and the shrimp weren't as crispy. We didn't finish it. I ordered the scallops and they were good but I wasn't a fan of the risotto and didn't taste truffle oil on top. My aunt ordered one of the fish dishes and her fish was overcooked. lol At that point I was feeling gaslit by the reviews because my expectations were wayyyy too high for this place! Service: Our waiter was very nice but he literally came over THREE times to get the bill. There is a tactful way to do this (look from a distance and wait for the customer to clearly be ready and book closed). It was the one turn-off regarding his service that night. Maybe we needed to order other dishes, maybe our expectations are too high for an area like this but we weren't blown away by this dining experience.

I promptly called back and explained that I did in fact canc and that I had a new reservation. She replied she would put me on hold to ck if I was telling the truth. After a few minutes she returns to say Your all set! No apology nothing. I told her I felt her vm was snarky and would address it when we came in the following week. She rudely responds OK well you do that! And hangs up. Needless to say we did not visit the establishment and would never under any circumstances dine at an establishment where they treat customers so disrespectfully. Restaurants are a dime a dozen around here and your success is largely based on reputation. Now I see why they're open 4 hrs a night for 4 days a week!!

They texted us and the text provided a wait list showing what place we were in the queue, and much was pretty nice. For the appetizer, we got the Crab Spinach Dip, which was odd in and of itself because the menu says it has artichokes but doesn't mention spinach. It came with chips and was very tasty. I must admit I was a little disappointed in the portion. The bowl of dip was not full and while the chips did cover the amount of dip, it wasn't very much. For dinner, I got the Fish & Chips, Fries and Cole Slaw. It wasn't bad. Not the best I've ever had, but not bad. I'd probably try something else next time. My wife got the Crab Imperial, which was very good. She also got a Bloody Mary to go with her meal. My son got the Big Shrimp with Saffron rice and broccoli, which was very good. Our friend got the Big Chicken with what looked like pureed Yams. He thought it was decent. The highlight was the dessert, which was the Double Chocolate Cake and a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream. We really enjoyed it. Our wait staff did a decent job as well. We will definitely be back.
