Last Saturday, arrived at around 7:30 pm, hoping for AYCE crab. We were told that now that we were on the list, even if we were seated after 8 pm (cut-off for AYCE) we could still partake. We waited for about 15 minutes and were seated. Whew! Made it! We like this place. The first order of AYCE crabs ($59) was 6 medium (they actually looked large) MD blue crabs with a full ear of corn and hush puppies. The crabs were coated with an Old Bay seasoning. I don't AYCE crabs, but my partner does. They really went to town, tools in hand with crab parts flying. There's a large trash can next to the table to conveniently dispose of shell and other parts. They said it was great. I only got a little crab fly onto my arms and eyes. The staff came by asking if we wanted more and two times my partner said yes. Each time, they received 3 big crabs. A dozen in all. I went in a different direction. I got the soup of the day (pumpkin soup with crab meat - $9) and the Sussex County Special ($31). Oh, my. The soup was outstanding. Nine dollars seemed high for a bowl of soup, but there was a lot of small bits of crab in it, and it was delicious. And I'm not even a big pumpkin person. It was worth it. The Sussex County Special was an "interesting"collection of things - fried catfish, 2-pieces of fried chicken, Carolina pulled pork BBQ and two sides. The catfish was tender and flavorful, with a not too thick batter. The chicken was moist and just greasy enough. The cup of pulled pork BBQ was great - the meat was delicious and the BBQ sauce was outstanding. I was so full from the other items that I sadly had to leave much of the BBQ uneaten. I got fries and vegis for my sides. The fries were boardwalk fries and were good. The vegi was cooked properly and not mushy. The price for AYCE crabs seems very reasonable. The price for the soup and the entree also was appropriate. There are a few AYCE crab places in Rehoboth Beach and nearby, but this is one we find to have consistently good crabs, good service and a pleasant atmosphere. We were vacationing in Rehoboth and picked this restaurant on a whim... absolutely delicious! Casual, cute restaurant..large bar area with high top tables where you could order from the happy hour menu. Our server was very friendly and attentive. My husband order the AYCE blue crabs...pretty meaty & came with delicious sides, corn & crab chowder, corn on the cob, and hush puppies. I ordered the crabcake, very good with lots of crab meat and little filler! The only complaint was that the crab dip appetizer came out well after our meals, but it was delicious! read more

The Blue Catfish was tasty but overcooked. The portion was probably 2-3 oz. The green beans were soggy and overcooked. The corn on the cob was starchy. Probably old. The fish and chips were drenched in oil-the result of frying in oil that was not hot enough. And extremely salty. So were the clam strips-oily. Maybe the crabs are good? Overall, the place is a waste of good money. You'd think being by the ocean would get someone (me) a decent meal-not. read more

The restaurant was a little run down with cracks in the flooring and missing a TV above our table. The water had an aftertaste and I told the manager, who told me that it is simply that way the water is for the area. The coleslaw was terrible . . . I returned it and was given hush puppies, which needed powdered sugar on them. My Fish & Chips were decent and the french fries were good. The star of my meal was the tarter sauce. I wasn't particularly impressed by the texture of the crabmeat here. I ordered a crab cake platter and instead of lump crab the meat was overly shredded which didn't make for a very pleasant meal. I came to Crab House on a Tuesday evening. The parking lot is tight and compact, so we parked a little further out so we wouldn't worry about our car getting dinged. It was busy inside, but luckily we were seated within about 10 minutes of putting ourselves down on the waitlist. I ordered the Broiler Crab Cake Sandwich that comes with all jumbo lump crab meat, potato bun, tartar and fries. The sandwich was delicious and filled with crab meat... they did not skimp! I really liked the fried here too, perfect crisp outer layer and soft potato filling on the inside. Overall I enjoyed the food. My only issue here was that the servers kept choosing to plate every dish by going over my son's head. Hot sauce was dripping off one of the plates and I had to literally hold a napkin above his head so it wouldn't drip onto him. It was busy and perhaps the servers weren't thinking clearly, but this was a hazard waiting to happen.... Therefore I would say that this is not an ideal spot for families with kids. read more

Hands down the absolute BEST spot to get your crab fix. This is a stop my boyfriend and I ALWAYS have to stop by when we are in the area. Literally always a highlight of our trip to the beach. The service here is always so friendly and welcoming. Our server was very personable (I wish I got her name) and took amazing care of us. You get welcomed with fresh popcorn to start--so addicting and lovely snack to munch on before your food comes out. The Maryland blue crabs here is definitely on the pricier side than most of the crab places I go to, but it is absolutely worth it! They have such a consistent system down with cooking their crabs and providing large heavy crabs. The crabs are sweet, perfectly cooked and meaty. My boyfriend and I always get here just a little before opening at 4pm to get their Jumbo Crabs (they sell out quickly). We were so lucky to get half a dozen this Jumbo Crabs, which is $17 per crab and then we also ordered half a dozen of x-large crabs for $80. Well worth it! We also got some Fried Clam Strips, which is perfectly battered, so crispy and portion was plentiful. I love the ambiance here, tables are far apart, trash cans next to your tables ready to dispose of all the crab shells. (I love it so much more than buckets that take up space on the table) amazing idea! Can't wait for our next time back! read more

I hate leaving this review, but feel an obligation to warn other tourists. We wish we were warned. We were at the Crab House during our recent vacation in Rehoboth Beach. Being a town known for its seafood, my son wanted to try a place with all you can eat crab. Upon walking in it was empty. Upon leaving it was almost empty except for the bar. This should have been our first warning. If the locals don't go there, they know something we don't. The place is dated. It did not "feel" clean. At the end of your table is a huge outdoor garbage can for your shells? There were several black flys flying around our table. The food was just not good. The clam strips were way too salty and tasted like fried breading and no clam. The corn was tough. The crab was a lot of work with very little meat. The margarita's were on a dive bar level. All cheap sour mix in a tall glass. We overheard someone at the bar complain and reorder theirs twice. They finally gave up and asked for a refund. Our waitress was sweet, but came off as detached and disinterested. Our interactions were minimal. We had to wait a long time for her to come back to the table to request melted butter, which was not provided with our meal. A group of waitresses were all talking at the bar. The best part of the meal was the corn chowder. We had a lot of meals out while there. This place was not even close to our other experiences. All this for almost $300 for 4 people. As soon as we sat down for dinner, we were notified that in order to get crabs we would have to come to the restaurant early as soon as they open. We had no idea about it. So we did the AYCE medium crabs instead. Ordered Crab Balls which was good and also Crab Mac & Cheese which also was good. 8/10 Felt the place was disorganized and out of hand. Hoped it would go smoothly. Our waitress was new so she did her best to serve us. But we would ask other servers to tell what we needed since our waitress forgets stuff. In addition to a half dozen of extra large crabs, I also got the Maryland crab cakes entree. The crab cakes were pretty good - it was not too oily and there were large chunks of crab meat. The sides of coleslaw and fries were also delicious. But the winner for the night were the crabs! The meat was so fresh and the seasoning just enhanced the experience. We also ordered the crab cake which did not taste very flavorful. when the fish and chips arrived. very greasy tasted it and realized it was not the usual flounder or a cod so we asked what kind of fish this was and she said catfish not the usual for a fancy appearing seafood restaurant! Ready to pay the bill and leave I decided to ask for to go cup cause I was not finished with that cup of soda at the moment and she never came back with the soda to go cup. when asked just arrived back with the receipt and at this point, we're like all right let's just go home. The food was rlly below average. The fries tasted like they were burnt/smokey. The service was really below average as well. We didn't receive any water for the first 30 minutes we were there. I would have ok with this if it was busy, but it wasn't even halfway full. Everything was cold on the buffet which kinda concerned us because it may have been in the "danger zone" since it was seafood, and meat. We are from Maryland and have eaten a lot of crabs over the years, including 10 years of family crab feasts in August at our beach house in Rehoboth. But this year's crab feast was a stunning disappointment because of the poor quality of the Crab House. We ordered delivery of 18 medium steamed crabs (at over $10 each) and received 17 small crabs in really rough shape. More than half had no claws at all, only two had both claws, and most had legs missing. They were steamed without seasoning (it came on the side), and tasted like they had not been freshly or recently steamed (they were not even warm). They were delivered with no paper for the table, no napkins, no utensils. The side dishes were also bad this year, but no need to add more complaints. We have ordered our crab feasts for the last several years from the Crab House, but seriously, we will never order from them again. read more

Was really disappointed with the quality here. My mother's lobster was literally full of waste all down the middle, it was full of so much dark black waste and it was so disgusting. The steam pot was really cold. The appetizers are good but the main stars of the show just don't shine. I wouldn't recommend this place, there's better offerings at Dewey Rehoboth and for better prices. Smallest Maine lobster I ever saw in my life, everything was cold, they couldn't take any of it back or compensate. At least the staff are good and friendly. After visiting the outlets, we worked up an appetite. Researched on Yelp for some restaurants in the area and decided to try the Crab House. We were immediately seated. And the ambiance totally gave off casual seafood restaurant. Tables were covered with brown paper for easy clean up for those fresh Maryland crabs. For that evening we skipped the crabs and tried the other seafood items on their menu. Before we even ordered, our waiter brought is freshly popped popcorn. Yes they have a popcorn machine and yes we went back multiple times to get refills. Their entire menu sounded delicious! We started with the loaded crab fries, Maryland crab dip, and flash-fried Nantucket clam strips. The loaded fries was a big plate of French fries covered with cheese, bacon, and chunks of crab. The clam strips were perfectly cooked and crispy and served with a creamy tar tar sauce. The crab dip was our fave and served with crisp and toasted sliced bread. The appetizers were all amazing! For entrees we got a little of everything. We had ordered the Mac and cheese with crab, the captains feast with the corn salad and hush puppies, half rack of baby back ribs with corn and hush puppies, and fried chicken and ribs combo platter with corn and corn salad. Our food was served fairly quickly and we enjoyed everything and with plenty of leftovers as well. The food did not disappoint! Overall we had a wonderful dinner at the Crab House! We had high expectations after hearing how good this place was. We stopped in last night for happy hour and were impressed with the bar area ambiance. We ordered a few drinks and a half dozen raw oysters and both were very good. Then we decided to try different items on the happy hour menu and it was then that things went south. We got the fried oyster appetizer (3 fried oysters) and found that the breading was not light and delicate as you need on fried oysters, but a way oversalted panko breading. While we were waiting for the oysters, we decided to also order the blue crab fritters. The serving was 3 fritters that were way over fried and again really over salted. There seemed to be some nice chunks of crabmeat, but you could not taste it due to the SALT! Our last choice was the steamed PEI mussels. On the plus side, the mussels were cooked well - juicy and not tough. But, the whole dish seemed to have been garnished with coarse kosher salt. Garnish with herbs, garnish with parsley, with anything but the amount of kosher salt that was in the dish. Come on Atlas, we've dined at a number of your other properties, (Big Fish, Striper Bites) and love their food. And don't get me started as to how unimpressed I was with the bar service. We just love this restaurant! Th service is outstanding! From the hostesses, servers, management, and cooks everyone is always so pleasant and willing to help you. For the food, everything I've tried has been great! Besides the sweet corn clam chowder soup, I'm not a fan. I recommend the beer tower! Nice cold beer. The crab all you can 4-8, is the bomb! So, worth going for. I would like to see the Buffett come back, that was a fantastic deal and fit for the family! The restaurant is very clean, including the bathroom. Ate here for dinner with my wife around 530pm. Restaurant was busy and parking lot was almost completely full. Restaurant is clean inside and out . The staff seems to be hustling hard. As we were seated we were brought popcorn as a snack while we wait for our food. They offer a buffet from 4-8pm. Prices are what you would expect for a seafood restaurant near the coast, fairly priced. Food arrived hot and fresh. Crab legs were just right, scallops were grilled just right. Shrimp was a little tough for my though and made it difficult to peel. Decent portions of each item. We would be happy to visit here again. read more

Bought crab here a few time through the years. They used to be really good but has been steadily going down hill. Last year they shorted us 2 blue crabs and messed up one of the sides; they did credit us though. This year...I called in an order and they quoted me 6:10pm pick up. I got there around 5:50pm and waited almost an hour and never got the food. They had the audacity to say that I was quoted for 6:30pm..and at 6:40pm the manager said something to the effect of: "We quoted you at 6:30pm, you can't wait another 10 minutes?" LOL, what a joke. Unfortunately there's only this place and Surfing Crab that has steamed crabs in Lewes and Surfing Crab does dine-in only. We went to Surfing Crab the next day for lunch and it was great. read more

It took a minute and they did fix it after the server exclaimed, "it's your lucky day!" I'm still thinking wtf? Fix your menus. Also, it said it came with a white wine sauce. Actually, it was some kind of red sauce that tasted like marina all over it. We also ordered the cornmeal catfish. It looked beautiful and had absolutely no flavor. Flies were on the food-- really turned me off to the idea of eating from the buffet, but I gave it a chance anyway since I had already payed for it. Everything from the buffet was semi cold and just did not taste good in the slightest. The only thing in the entire restaurant that was edible to me was the corn on the cob. Spent $40 at the buffet just to ONLY eat the corn. My entire party of 5 felt extremely sick afterward. so to summarize: do yourself a favor and DO. NOT. EAT. HERE!!! Everyone we asked for help was helpful. I order the build your own entree/meal/whatever it was called. I got the Crab cake, 1/2 lb. Snow crab leg, "homemade" mac n cheese and cauliflower mash. As an app, I ordered the deviled eggs (they came with a fried oyster half on top), which was the only item I didn't have to alter. Kudos in the deviled eggs! The crab cake was all crab with no filler but until I dipped it in the sauce, it was bland. The crab leg came with no seasoning... The mac n cheese was cheesy but needed salt and pepper... We ordered a lobster Mac and cheese to share at the table. $31. It tasted horrible. The cream sauce tasted like alcohol was added. It was bitter and sour. When I asked the waitress the ingredients she went back to the kitchen and asked. She suggested they made it with the crab soup rather than the cream due to a kitchen mix up but that it wasn't switched around in the back so that wasn't the case. She offered to make second batch for us. Nobody touched it. It smelled and tasted funny. I didn't want another batch. She still charged me $31. King crab platter $110 for one person (made my kids share it) So on the expensive side for a restaurant that puts a trash can at the end of the table so you clear it yourself. Hush puppies were big but had an odd spinach flavor. Salad was wilted. Lots of delicious snow crab legs. They gave us cold butter packets. I guess that is healthier than a cup of melted butter to dip. I don't drink but I had my family with me and after she had one drink she stumbled out happy so I guess the big picture is good alcohol, food doesn't have to be. I had fried calamari which was delicious! It had a lemony drizzle and marinara sauce a a plethora of golden ringlets. Get some for takeout. read more

This place really needs to reassess itself. Everything here is extremely expensive. My fiancé and I orders 6 things on the menus and two drinks. Two things I like to point out.. they had this smith island boil that literally came with 2 shrimp, small ass clams ( which they lied to us and said they ran out and would it be ok if they didn't included it and would give us additional shrimp as replacement) one small crab and 2 mussels. I am sorry but for 20 bucks I can get a real boil with haft point of shrimp and mussel. What I got wasn't a boil but a sample.. then I had two dried up crab legs for 40 Dollars ! Had I known this I would never come in. Worst 150 dollars I ever had... I was so piss I didn't even want to tip but I did anyway because these people prop don't pay their staff. They are probably most famous for their all you can eat buffet. However, we did not partake in this because it was too late. Instead we ordered entrees, which were mediocre at best. We had a large party of about 12 people. We ordered crab cakes, steamed crab, an island boil, mussels in cream sauce, and fresh oysters, just to name a few. Most of the portion sizes were pretty small. Crabs were on the small side. The raw oysters were obviously freshly shucked so it's not about quality, it's just that they were less than a teaspoon each. Also the mussels were the tiniest I have ever seen, the meat was about the size of a large pea each. The crab cakes looked like they were about 2 oz. per. So the flavor of most of these was good and it was definitely fresh seafood. But don't be fooled, it would be hard to have a full meal from one order. For example the cream sauce that came with the mussels was very good. There was a thick garlic toast to dip in the sauce. But the seafood itself was just very tiny. I understand that the price of seafood is going up everywhere so I don't blame them for cutting corners. But at least give me the option to buy a reasonable size for my order. And for our large party the table service was pretty good. Our waiter was very adept at handling everyone's request and I give him five stars for being patient with some people who weren't paying attention or where English was not their first language. Otherwise this is a fun place, it has a good bar and a festive atmosphere. But don't go for excellent seafood, it's more about cheap skimpy seafood. read more

So happy we went to dinner! I was looking for Alaskan King Crab legs & big time score here! Alex our waiter was busy, BUT very awesome & attentive to us. Started off with fried clams & the crab dip. Clams were fresh & crispy & their homemade tarter sauce was good. Crab dip was unreal delish! Chunks of crab, gooey cheese & toasted bread - can't ask for much more! We actually got one to go too! Then for dinner hubby got fried shrimp & ribs, fries & corn. Ribs fell off the bone & sauce bbq sauce was delish. 4-Shrimp cooked perfect & golden brown. My King Crab! Perfect! So good with the butter...I was in heaven! I highly suggest you stop in here. I don't know if this is a chain restaurant or not, but its really good!
