CPI Security showed me one system, and installed a much older system. When I questioned it, they said they will just remove everything they did and leave (including leaving holes in my wall where they cut to place the speaker system). That obviously wouldn't work. I was forced to keep the out-of-date system. They told me it was a two year contract on the phone when I signed up to have someone come out. Then on the way out the door gave me a piece of paper to sign after install "to say it was complete" - and that paper included ONE SMALL LINE saying the contact was now 60 months. They want 75% of the contract paid back to cancel. There is no OUT CLAUSE. I would never use a company like this again. Buy your own system. read more

So I have been dealing with the system alarming with consistent beeping and not stopping. while I am gone at work, causing my dog to start having seizures - which he never had before. I come home to vomit, pee and poop plus a frantic stressed out pup. I finally just yanked all of the cords out of the "hub" in the closet. Then some flunkie at CPI signed me up for Cell service saying that that would cure the alarm beeping issues 100% through out the day. This winner signed me up for a 5 yr plan that I NEVER agreed to with penalties.Someone was supposed to rectify and get back to me - and did not. So essentially $40/month robbery or the huge termination fee.. Since my seizure-induced pup passed, I reconnected the system and now the glass breaking alarm is going off at 1145pm on a Friday night. After 5+ min on hold for the alarm hotline, the woman told me that didn't sound like a CPI alarm as it is continuously going off at high decibels. I walked my tiny house and no one is breaking glass nor was the alarm armed but what i got from Customer service was a fight over that not being a CPI system. I have never had anything but CPI. I pay extra for the glass breaking alarm. I see many other customers are being exploited as well. Maybe Monica LaLiberte should dig into this scam. So again,. CPI is robbing me of $40/month because I have to unplug everything to have any peace and no CPI alarms blaring at midnight, and they just collect their fee that I didn't agree to, and pretend it isn't their service causing the issue. It feels good to support a NC company - like CPI. However this is the worst decision I ever made and I am locked into a contract I didn't agree to and can't arm my system or even have it active, because of their shoddy service and 1145pm repetitive alarms. But why am I complaining? 8 times is no big deal, right? Pick anyone else!!!!!!! I wonder what the real rating is since you are forced to pick one star but even with the gimme....they are at 2.8 out of 5 stars. I had CPI 2 yrs 6 months when my husband passed away and I had to move in with my daughter in another state. I had 6 months left on the contract and I am still having to pay the bill. Found CPI unaware house was not being monitored when I switched to VOIP from ATT landline. Tested system after approx. 2 weeks with zero response. Has been a complete nightmare/ joke getting a straight answer from company. When communicating with company correspond via email as you will have record of communication. Over phone (voice) with customer service you will be threatened with penalty fees and the true colors of the relationship come through. My control box has now been deactivated by CPI, they have not been monitoring my home for two months now AND ARE STILL DEBITING THEIR MONTHLY MONITORING FEE FROM MY ACCOUNT. READ THE FINE PRINT OF CONTRACT BEFORE SIGNING if you do business w/ this company. They will get you for 60 MONTH commitment AND if you don't remember after 60 MONTHS to notify them in writing via certified mail PRIOR TO SIXTY DAYS OF CONTRACT ANNIVERSARY they AUTO RENEW YOUR CONTRACT! I wish I DID NOT ALLOW this company to draft your bank account for my monthly monitoring.., was told they WILL NOT stop debiting regardless of this lapse in contractual obligation (monitoring my home/ family security). Was told and reassured that there were failsafes and redundancies with system for if phone line were cut / disconnected the system would detect and company would trigger response. COMPLETE FALSEHOOD. I am only grateful I had 4 months remaining on my 60 MONTH contract when all this happened. I have told CPI REPEATEDLY I will pay my remaining months to get this company out of my life (I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE MONEY AT THIS POINT). I have submitted a review with BBB stating same. ALL I WANT IS CPI OUT OF MY LIFE. In review of my experience (had been a customer of CPI for 10 YEARS) and what I am presently going through with this company to end this relationship I would never have done (nor will ever do) business with CPI again, ever.What I have been made to endure can best be classified as predatory with the phone calls and threats of fees ($ 250.00) if I did not permit CPI to physically deactivate the control panel. We started a new 3 year contract. If it wasn't for the steep Early Termination Fee we would have cancel long time ago. The system malfunction in several occasions, they sent a tech to replace the cell to a different provider because they said the signal was low in this area with the first but the problems continued for a while until it became intolerable like in one occasion we could not get out of the bedroom for about 12 minutes since we have the motion sensor device right outside of our door, in another occasion the cops showed up and it was due to some silent signal sent to the monitoring central station, BTW there is ONE sick puppy working there, if you accidentally activate the alarm they come on the loud speaker and in one instant you go from homeowner/paying customer to intruder/aggressor, the loudspeaker is just that, it is soooo loud that it is intimidating and you are at their mercy in your own kingdome, so I have an accent and she is unforgiving and accts like a White Supremacist and all hell broke lose. For half the price I can be treated with professionalism, respect and dignity read more

The worst experience I ever had. Simply, their customer support consists of bunch of morons! It was a terrible experience from the beginning. They offer me 6 month discount but they charged me full premium! I had to call over 4 to 6 times and lose my temper to get them do 3 month only! Wore, when i tried to cancel the service, I had to call many times to be told that I have to write a letter! I wrote the letter in August but they continued to charge me the full premium till now! Called to inquire about new service. I was told that they price matched and would match an offer I had from AT&T and would call me back to confirm. After not hearing back I initiated contact and was told they wouldn't price match and they tried to charge me 300$ more for the system. I called later to speak to a manager and got pj. He started the conversation off hostile and told me he wasn't giving me anything free. When I was trying to explain I didn't expect it for free the call dropped. I waited 15 minutes and called back. When I first got CPI in 2006, once a month I would receive a call to test the system to ensure it was working properly. I felt CPI really cared about my safety. I would tell people how happy I was with CPI. But then everything went south when I moved in 2015. When my home was built in 2015, another security company install the wiring and the panel. Because CPI provided such good service at my other home, I contact them to activate the security system at my new home. Once the system was installed, it appeared that CPI forgot about me. I have yet to received a call from CPI to test the system. I have a camera, how do I know if CPI can see what's happening if the alarm goes off. Unless the system is tested to ensure everything is working properly, I am at CPI's mercy. CPI has really disappointed me. Avoid CPI Security for the same reasons mentioned by a previous reviewer. They will push a 5 year contract with the clause that you can move the service with you if you move to a new home during that time. However, if you move out of their service area, you will be responsible for the remainder of the contract. They are more focused on collecting the full 5 year contract than providing decent customer service or having a repeat customer. The service was good while I was living in their service area, but in my opinion it is not worth the hassle or potential liability if you move. I ended up paying for 2 years of service that I did not use and that CPI did not have to provide monitoring service. read more

Horrible customer service. I do not recommend this franchise that services the Raleigh, NC area. Throughout my experiences, they do not document the account of conversations with their customers, so with the next time you call, there is no proof of the conversation and even if you give the date and time of the call, they won't pull the call and listen to it. Bumbles that are made by the company take hours and hours of phone calls to them in attempt to get straight. I recently was talking to one of the agents that had -0-critical thinking skills and was not hearing a word I said, he responded as though he was merely in a contest to win. I asked to speak to a supervisor more than 10 times and he continued with insisting I was going to "listen to him." Very rude. I think CPI has a good service, but because you have to deal with untrained people that operate unprofessionally and inefficiently with outdated methods, they are not worth the headache. We have experienced multiple problems with the security system. On multiple occasions while we have been out of town the security system has activated and the motion sensor detected someone in my residence. After viewing the video footage and having neighbors check the home there is nothing inside the house. CPI said that there must have been something inside the house that set off the alarm even though I was watching the video footage and there was nothing there. I live in a city that charges you after multiple activations. CPI finally agreed to replace the monitoring console and the motion detector. Approximately two weeks later I was notified that the power console had a low battery and I was informed by CPI security that my power outlet location the system is plugged into was not operating. I plugged in an additional item into the outlet and it was working fine. Now CPI security wants to charge me $75 for an emergency visit to fix the problem even though I'm covered under my protection warranty. I do not recommend this system to anyone. Go with ADT, they are much better system. read more

Sold my house 3 months ago and luckily the new owners wanted it, so we switched their name into the account and I was no longer responsible for the account (THIS PROCESS WAS A PAIN -they charged me anyway and had to give a refund). Now 3 months later, I get a call asking if I would like services in my new home - I told them NO, because I was not happy with the way everything was handled when transferring and thought that was the end of it. Well guess what - check my bank account today and I have been charged for a monthly service. Call and ask why - they tell me it is because I only put my service on hold and didn't send a cancellation letter (which I did, because it was required to give new homeowner permission to take over my account). So they start by blaming me, so I forwarded the original email with time/date. Her response - "Oh sorry, I will fix that for you. Have a good day" then hangs up. AGAIN, DO NOT DO IT! I do plan to get security again in the future, but it will NEVER be with company. I recommended and got you service a few time and WISH I could take it back. read more

The only reason I gave one star instead of none, is because you must rate if you want to post. this company deserves a -5 star rating. absolutely the worse company I've ever dealt with! the salesmen will tell you any thing he thinks you want to hear! after signing up with CPI (against our better judgment since we read all the horrible reviews) the salesman promised a $50 visa card which close to a year later we are still waiting on. but the worse thing is the total lack of competence on the "tech service" and "customer no service" when there is a problem. For the 3rd time since we've had it, our cameras (family room & driveway, plus the SVR) are not working. No power failure, no internet problems, but NO SERVICE!!!! Started last evening around 8:00 pm. It was 8:30 tonite (24 hrs later) before we could even get someone on the phone to trouble shoot. (by the way, salesman told us these problems could be fixed on line-no tech home visit necessary...another lie) After unsuccessfully trying to fix over the phone, was told tech would have to come to house. first appt 2 days from now...sorry but it will be a 5 hour window, and oh, BTW we will need to miss work to wait on them. Only other option...crawl thru the attic crawlspace and unplug the garage camera! also will need to unplug inside camera, SVR, router, internet...you get the picture. If, after reading all the negative reviews for CPI you should still decide to sign up...just remember you have been warned...we were, and due to a very poor lapse in judgement, are now paying the price! :( read more

Unethical business practices. My husband and I have been transferred for his job (out of state) and we have sold our home, CPI will cancel our services, however, we will need to either continue to pay the monthly fee of $49.95 for the next three years or buy out 75% of the contract. They cannot transfer the services to our new home and the new owners of our sold home do not want to use CPI. What a mess - what horrible customer service! What ever happened to doing the right thing for a customer in a situation that is out of their control. Terrible, terrible, terrible! Countless hours on the phone with no solution and what's even worse is that the entire time we are talking to their customer service staff, we feel like they are trying to constantly pull a "fast one" on us or lead us to believe they can help, yet there is always fine print they don't disclose. I guess the same thing happens when they get you to sign their contract in the first place. It's no wonder they have a 5 year contract, no one would want their services - they have to trap you! The worst customer service I have ever experienced... and I work in IT! CPI does "OK" as long as the money keeps coming in, but once we attempted to end our service when we sold our house, they could not have been less helpful. When my wife called to end our service, the customer rep said that we were liable for service since we recently upgraded our system. That was fine, but my wife asked for a reduced amount as we had been loyal customers for 13 years. While initially agreeing to cut the amount in half, the customer rep never confirmed in email despite promising to do so, and repeated requests over the next few weeks to remedy the situation were unsuccessful. Then as closing date neared, we called to resolve the issue once again and they wanted the name and contact information of the buyer. We indicated that we would not provide that information as it was not appropriate to do so. Once we moved out of the house we thought that they had closed our account... Wrong. They merely "froze" our account instead of closing it like we requested. When we asked why they would do that, they indicated that it was for our benefit so that they could "transfer" the system to our new house. At this point I wouldn't let them put a security system on a doll house. I have have experienced lousy customer service before, but I have seldom seen a company treat a long time customer so poorly. Whatever goodwill they had built up with us in 13 years they lost in a few weeks, and didn't seem to care less about it. read more

Service itself is acceptable and it works as described. It's the Sales representatives and contract where you need to use EXTREME CAUTION! Sales/installation representatives intentionally mislead on the length of the service agreement and what you sign may actually be a FIVE year contract with 75% cancellation cost recovery - over $1000 even after two years! Seriously - would you sign something so ridiculous if they told you that up front? Of course not! And to add to the crazy, they inflate the cost of hardware as well as misrepresent what the hardware is. My home had all the hardware (old hardware at that) already in place including the panel they now tell me they need to "recover" in order to cancel. I signed up for what was represented as a two year contract and received "free" HD cameras and a door lock. I tried to cancel after two years and they actually expected me to pay $1000+ for "free hardware" and lost future monitoring on remaining three years of a five - yes FIVE - year contract! No joke. This is their apparent business model. DO NOT USE CPI! Most of the competition has far better terms and costs, not to mention you can easily build your own. read more

5 year contract presented as a work order and never mentioned in conversation. Account over charged during first payment. On September 3,2013 we spoke with Mr. ********* of CPI Securities in regards to their service. We were interested in the special they offer for 29.95 a month for 3 months no installation fee required. We asked Mr.**** if any other fees were associated with this other than the installation fee of $255.13 that he said was due because we didn't meet their credit requirements and he said no. The installer came over and installed the system and handed us a work order that he said we needed to sign to show he had done his job. When its time for the first payment on September 20, 2013 they draft 89.91 from our account. When we called to complain the first representative explains that they do not know where the charges came from then transferred us to another that says they charge a pro-rated amount on the first bill which was never disclosed to us. Also that they did not show the promotion on our account for the 29.95 special and he informed us there wasn't anything he could do about the additional charges. We asked to cancel the service and at that time they disclosed that we were in a contract for the next 5 years. We explained no one ever mentioned a contract to us. The associate then tells us its in small print on the side of our work order. I asked why Mr.Good never disclosed that information to us via email or our phone conversation nor did he disclose the pro-rated charge when specifically asked if any other fees were associated with the service. We explained to Mr. **** that we need to know the exact amount to have our account budgeted correctly.The installer never mentioned that he was handing us a contract but specifically said this is a work order to show he had done the installation. When asked about the promotion again they admitted they had made a mistake and didn't add that to our account, but also stated they couldn't do anything to fix what they had charged at the time. We explained to the representative that we feel their company is taking advantage of their customers. They should have disclosed the contract information in the 3 original conversations that we had with Mr. Good as well as the installer should have presented it as one. We had only had the service for 2 weeks at the time and we asked that they keep the deposit and take the equipment and void the service because we have lost trust in them having access to our account after that. They declined. We also asked if there was another way to make payments such as a monthly phone call paid by our debit card where we authorize each transaction and they declined saying their isn't another way. We feel that we tried to work this situation out to the best of our abilities but they have sent our account to a collection office requesting that we pay the contract off or they will take our family to court. I feel they breached any contract when they over charged us the amount stated by Mr. Good and that they are practicing unfair business when they do not disclose information about a contract for a 5 year period. We have even made recent attempts to settle the matter by asking to have the service reinstated and paying the past due balance and just keeping the service during the 5 year contract even though we really feel that isn't fair considering they have not kept any previous promises made to us. They are still requesting the 2,100 to be paid to their company even though we no longer have their service and requested it to be canceled after having it less than a month. I feel that is unfair practice to their customers to charge them 5 years worth of service when they have only had the service for less than a month at the time and not disclosing that information. Also to have customer service representatives that can bluntly tell you they do not know why we are charged then transferred to another that says they can not do anything about the charges. After filing a complaint with the BBB they stated they are willing to reinstate contract and if we fulfill the agreement. We gave in and decided to do that, but when we contacted them they went against what they stated online and said we have to pay the full amount. read more

I've had CPI SECURITY service for many years and it was OK, although from time to time I would get very annoying noises from the panel stating "PHONE FAILURE TROUBLE" all night long, all week until the CPI technician arrives. Sometimes have to wait up to 2 weeks to have CPI technician in my house. Despite statement that they charge $29.99 it is not true, because they used to charge $38 per month, but after adding satellite back up it became $47 and now their new wireless system (which I did not install) is $50 a month, plus I paid close to $2000 originally when the new system was being installed in my house years ago. Recently they offered me free indoor cameras and to upgrade to a wireless system yet they were unable to install the outdoor cameras, so I did not go with the new, more expensive system ($50 per month) and a new contract. Today 704-945-6000 called me and did not speak, then hung up on me. I found out it is CPI security who Ive been using. The support was kind of "sceptical" or "difficult" on several occasions (for a lack of a better word) talking to me. This is not the first time this is happening and the CPI has quite an attitude. I would not recommend them anymore and am considering going with a local, less expensive security company, especially due to the weak economy and an income drop. Just want to add that their system works most of the time, but their attitudes just makes it hard to keep them and the "PHONE FAILURE TROUBLE" noise signal all day all night is quite frequent and they do not advise me how to disable that, so I have to sleep with constant loud signals and voices coming from this security alarm system. A terrible experience completely in line with the reviews you will see online on this company. They sent a letter offering $1800 of equipment with their intouch system. I called and the salesman and I spoke for over 1 hour confirming all the elements I wanted - mainly the cameras. We agreed on a price after multiple trips to his supervisor to get it approved. It was 9pm by the time we ended and he said the contract would take 2 hours to be sent to me since underwriting has to approve. When the paperwork came it did not list the equipment we agreed on - lots of errors - so tried to call but their office was closed and the installers were coming and needed me to sign this paper work right away. Did not feel comfortable doing that without corrections - called office multiple times asked to speak to a supervisor - they would put me on hold for 10 minutes than call gets disconnected. Finally original salesman calls me back apologizes says go ahead and sign the paperwork - you are not held to it and they will correct all on site(He knew I was on a time crunch to get this installed right away.). 1 hour later calls me back and says I discounted your order too much (!! - not true) so if you want this system you need to pay an additional $200. I was astonished - how do you ask for more money after agreeing to a contract. They kept me on hold speaking to their 'CFO' to get it approved for the original price(which had already been approved by their 'underwriting'!!!). Finally a supervisor comes back and says it is approved but I need to pay an additionak $99 activation fee(WHat?!!! never mentioend beofre or on the paperwork). Finally the installer shows up the next day and says you need $500 more of equipment (we have a completely wired in system they were taking over ) and it was essential I buy that. Then he says he cannot install the cameras as there was not outlet right at the spot they needed at any of the locations and they cannot pull wires or cut sheetrock to do it (professional installation?!!! - if the outlet is right there maybe I can plug it in myself?!). A security company that does not have any integrity in their offers or dealings - changes stories, constantly trying to get more money, difficult to get a hold of people there and their professional installers cannot install..... Do not usually post but 25 calls in a span of 36 hours with this questionable company and felt obliged to share - BUYER BEWARE for sure. read more

I had a situation where when I was out of town, my cleaning crew set off the alarm. They stayed around, assuming the police would show. An hour later they finish cleaning, but no one shows. I call CPI, they tell me it is an issue with the police, not them. I call the police, per the official police report someone from CPI reported THAT THE PERSON IN MY HOME APPEARED TO BE KNOWN AND NO FOLLOW UP WAS NEEDED. I call CPI and they are ridiculously rude, essentially saying they don't care if I'm unhappy, if I would like to cancel I can pay over a grand to get out of my contract. I really wish I read other reviews before signing up. Rest assured if you get CPI and have a break in, you should call the police yourself. read more

Had to move out of state - contract states they charge for early cancellation - I knew that going in. Originally the sales rep said that they never enforce that as it's not good for business. Of course, if it's in their contract it doesn't matter what they told me outside of that written agreement, but that's the line he tried to feed me, & wasn't surprised when they really did charge me that. What DID surprise me was when a rep on the phone told me he could pull the tapes see what the guy said. I said if he wanted to do that it was great but there was more than 1 conversation (this was the 1st one, I called to buy later). Never heard from them -- kept calling - finally got email saying I had to pay. Again, I never denied this, but now I was angry even if there was no legal leg to stand on (and again, I never asked to be let out of the fee -- their rep offered to find the tape) because they feed people this line when it's not true. If the new homeowner took over my contract which would mean I didn't owe the fee - last I heard they were doing that. I provided CPI with my new address in case they needed to reach me. I got a bill today for what they say I owe (nearly $800), which was SENT TO MY OLD ADDRESS where I haven't lived for over three months - took over a month for bill to get to me, at which point it's late. At this point, we have had multiple disasters (2 insurance claims pending) and I cannot pay this bill in full so I called them to see if I could set up a payment plan. The person in billing I spoke to was nothing short of cruel -- the conversation started off okay on my end, saying that I couldn't pay the bill in full and that I wanted to set up a payment plan. He said I had to pay it all within 90 days (keep in mind now that much of that time had passed since my bill took a circuitous route to get to me) and so of course at that point I'm upset. I said well, that can't happen, so can you work with me so I can get this paid. That's when he simply repeated "you have to pay it within 90 days" and then said it would go to collections. Now, my credit rating is 800, so I don't find that tremendously terrifying (they ding my credit, and it drops 50 points, it's still in the excellent range), but wow, that was just really mean. I told him fine, I've already told people how bad I felt I was treated by CPI so if I lost them 5 sales then great. He said that's great, have a good day. So anyway, fact is I owe this money, and I'm an honorable person, so I'm going to try to pay what I can. So I call back to see if I can make a payment over the phone and sure enough, I get transferred back to this jerk. I make a small payment, and he again says I have to pay it all in 90 days. Argument again ensues. At some point I asked him when the 90 days started to run (I mean, I don't know if it's from the day I told them I had to cancel my service, or from the date of the first bill, which took ages to get to me, or from the date I contacted them, or what). He said (and this is rich) "That was gone over with you before." Really. Not "the 90 days starts from the date of the bill," or any other normal thing that would just answer the question without being awful -- just a flat refusal to answer my question by telling me that someone went over that with me before (which, incidentally, they had not -- this is the first conversation I've had with anyone about how long I would have to pay this -- there was no reason to ever have this conversation before as I thought the new homeowner was taking over the contract). Why on earth he would answer this way (or even think that) I had no idea, but I had to practically scream at him NO, WE DIDN'T several times just to get him to tell me when the 90 days started to run. When he finally did (from the date of the bill) I asked him if he wanted my correct address so at least I would get any future bills. He had a smart answer for that, too. I replied, look, this is the third time I've given you guys my correct address. At some point I'd think he'd go, geez, I'm sorry, okay, I have your address changed now. But again, same attitude. So then he's like anything else I can do for you today? At this point I've gone over the edge and said "nope, I just think I'll go talk some people out of getting CPI, but thanks, you've been 'lovely'" and he goes "you too." If this is how they interact with people who are ACTUALLY trying to pay them -- not trying to skip out on the bill, but really, truly trying as best as they can to get them paid for a service they DON'T EVEN HAVE ANYMORE - and yes, they charged me a LATE FEE for not paying on time even though I didn't get the bill until AFTER it was due because THEY mailed it to the wrong address!
