Delicious spot to try for breakfast! Came to visit my sister who goes to IU and this was a great spot, as it was not over crowded on the weekend. Less of a wait time then going downtown Bloomington for sure. We all gobbled up our meals so sadly I didn't get to picture our meals, however I thought it would be helpful to add menu pictures! Menu has a wide variety for everyone's tasting!

Decent breakfast. The hash browns are very soggy with no crispy so do not recommend. The omelets here are GREAT. The farmers omelet is covered in country gravy and is the egg flavor isn't too heavy. It's so moist and not dry like most omelets. It's the reason I come here! Other than that, everything else is pretty mediocre.

Man...this is definitely a gem in Bloomington. Had no clue it existed ha. I hate how it looks on the outside. It seems dirty and uninviting. But when I tell you inside is way better...it is. The food was great and extremely affordable. I had the breakfast skillet and was extremely tasteful. Was full as well. The pancakes were not the best, dry if you know what I mean. Definitely coming back. Staff were nice and decently clean inside. Allot of options for food.

Horrible Hash browns!! Pancake came with a clump of butter

Food was painfully average. Service was slow and we didn't get napkins!! Frozen strawberries on the French toast were gross. Hash browns were incredibly undercooked and tasteless. When we walked in we waited for 2 min before someone finally asked us if we wanted to sit (the place was maybe 20% full. Would not recommend

The atmosphere of the restaurant is exactly what the name suggests. The tables are cozy because they have an extremely high backs and you get a very secluded feeling. This is one of the few places that qualifies a Yes answer to Yelp's question "is this place intimate?" I ordered the Philadelphia Steak Sandwich with no mushrooms. You are offered the option of soup or coleslaw. Today there were two soups available with one being Chicken Bowtie which is basically chicken noodle soup. I chose the chicken bowtie soup. It was extremely good and it filled me up. So I was only able to finish half of my sandwich which came with fries. The fries were battered. Lettuce, tomato, and hamburger dill chips came on the side. The sandwich came with mushrooms which I did not notice until I had already eaten half a sandwich so the mushrooms were sparse and not overwhelming. So I was ok with it but I elected not to take the other half with me because of that. I didn't remember to look for the dessert section on the menu. I look forward to eating here again, particularly for breakfast.

I have been to a many breakfast places in Bloomington, and this place is by far the best. The food and service has always been excellent in all my visits. Also the food comes out very quickly and is always cooked to your specifications. The only complaint is the dated decor and ambience as it's like they are going for 5 different aesthetics at one time and nothing works. But who cares what it looks like if the food is too notch and very reasonably priced. I highly recommend this place.

This place is obviously a local favorite, was pretty crowded & very small area to stand and wait for a table, but once we got seated it was great! It's super cozy inside & good menu options. I highly recommend the skillet with a side of pancakes! Can't wait to go back

The price was pretty decent. However, the ambience size of your portions did not make up for the price.

Locals told me that it was because the local pizza places, especially Mother Bear's, are so popular, that college students would go there instead of getting cheap, mid pizza. I have now been to Mother Bear's three or four times and really wish that there was a Little Caesar's Pizza in town. This most recent trip was during lunchtime and I ordered a cheese slice, a small house salad, and a drink. I fortunately got there early enough to get a clean table, though I saw probably fifteen to twenty people come in after me who were not so lucky. Following the sign at the door, instructing them to "Please Seat Yourselves," I heard several people ask out loud how they were supposed to do that if there were no clean tables. Some employees frantically cleaned a few tables and had them sit down. A few minutes after I ordered, the waitress brought the house salad. It looked fresh at first but the more I ate the more I realized that several of the romaine pieces were either clearly out of date or simply bad. In a moment when cyclospora is running rampant through the US, the lack of care in selecting the lettuce was worrying. Several moments later I began wondering if the cheese slice was going to be brought to my table soon. Instead, it was probably twenty minutes between getting the salad and the cheese slice and it was pretty obvious (see the photo) that the slice had been sitting under a heat lamp for around that same amount of time. The crust was dry, the cheese had become stale and too salty, and it was not a very enjoyable experience. Eating around the bad lettuce was, unfortunately, more enjoyable, and it was also better than the pizzas I've had here in the past, where the dough, toppings, and cheese aren't integrated in a way that blends their flavors together very well. The one thing I can say about this time is that the Dr. Pepper was fine, which is not something I can always say about restaurant sodas. I think for me this will probably be my last time going to Mother Bear's. It seems like one of those places that probably was good at some point in the past but now they rely on the fact that undergrads and locals will go to the restaurant no matter what. I'll probably just keep dreaming of eating Little Caesar's instead or, more likely, I'll just go get better pizza at Osteria Rago.

I expected a crowd. And while I wasn't shocked at the crowd, I was shocked at how quickly we were seated, and how quick and impressive the service was even with a line out the door. Our group of six (multiple families represented) was seated in about 15 minutes. Most of the restaurant is configured for 4-tops, but there were enough larger options to make our seating work. I was too slow to get photos of everyone's food, plus I didn't want to embarrass my daughter who might have stabbed me with her fork. Wife had the one-egg breakfast. Traditional egg and hash browns and she chose toast (think pancakes were an option, and that would have been my preference) while I ordered the country lady. Country lady was a country friend steak, eggs, biscuit, hash browns and sausage gravy. Delish. Love that combination, and it's nice to have an option so I don't have to piece it together somehow. Everyone enjoyed their food, and the server was quick and really 'on it' as he promptly took drink orders, filled them and took our food order at that point. Kitchen staff must have been upgraded since my last visit because it was crazy fast. Check was divided accurately, and we were out the door in less than an hour. They didn't rush us, but it was obvious they wanted to turn tables over fast since the line was building. Definite repeat. I still love the local places downtown, but even I wasn't crazy enough to try to get in those on a football weekend!

I mostly go if I just want something fast that feels like a real meal and not fast food slop. I think I like the other location a lot better because the service is way friendlier (just based on this visit) and they have real plates and silverware when you dine in. I've eaten here a handful of times in the past few months and I come back because it's simple clean food at affordable prices with a comfortable dining room. Sometimes when I've visited around lunch time, when it's busy, someone doesn't bus their table and you have a table or two with plates left on it, but it's usually pretty clean. There are 3 ordering kiosks, but you can go to the counter to place your order with a staff member if you prefer. The staff that I've interacted with have been pleasant. I used to go to the Panera in my hometown when I was a kid and the food is pretty much the same as I remember it (except the baguette, which is definitely not as crusty as it was 10 years ago, but still decent). Special mentions to the bread bowl which has that tangy sourdough flavour and the brownie which is super fudgy but not too dense. The chai latte is a little underwhelming - it tastes like spiced milk with just a hint of tea. Decaf coffee is decent. It should go without saying that you won't find the most exciting or flavourful food at Panera, but I find their offerings satisfying when I just want something simple and balanced.
