A really nice meal in a cozy location. It reminds me of a similar restaurant from when I was a kid. King Gyros is a special little place in an overcrowded Bloomington, IN. My gyro plate was full. A great price for the amount of food. Everything had that classic gyro seasoning. I like that the meals come in to-go containers so if you decide in the middle of a meal you need to leave you can simply just take your food and go. The Taziki sauce was very refreshing and tasted great with the meat and the fries. The jalapeño poppers were nothing special. And the ranch sauce that came with the jalapeño poppers was certainly not good. But the rest of the meal was exactly what I wanted, and it hit the spot. read more

I ordered the beef gyro a recommendation from friends & riders. The pita bread was fresh and soft. However the main ingredient the sliced beef was overall dry and not tender. The sauce had a great flavor profile. The tomato pieces where the ends and pieces and not a uniform diced as I was accustomed to with other gyros. The restaurant is a bit dated and not a cozy feel. I also ordered the baklava but told they didn't have any. There was a sign advertising it though. Probably won't be back. read more

King Gyros is a unique throwback kind of a place. There are several reviewers who commented on the person at the counter being rude. I disagree. Just because they don't exchange pleasantries doesn't make them rude. The guy took our order, they made our order, and everyone was happy. We were VERY happy. I went with partner and kid. Kid had the cheeseburger and fries. Partner had the chicken gyro and fries, and I had the rib tips. And fries. I haven't been here in over 20 years. I don't know why! Everything was delicious! The rib tips were so big and meaty, they might as well have been a mini order of ribs. I couldn't even eat them all. I understand the chicken gyro was pretty good, and the fries were definitely good. I took a bite of burger, and that was good, too! We ate in, and it definitely was not in a customer ready condition in a way. Only a few lights were on, and I'm not sure the heat was. We were the only ones there, and someone got a pick up order while we were there. The food smelled delicious as they cooked it there, and I loved every bit of it. I can't wait for leftovers! The soda was a tad on the flat side, but that's not a huge deal. Of course the booths are still worn, and the pendant lights look weirdly out of place as they're the only update that dining room has seen in 30 years. Don't come for the atmosphere. It's amusing to watch all of the traffic at McDonald's and Starbucks across the street, when the values here are so much better, and the food quality is far fresher. Alas, a lot of it is fried food, but there are "Greek" salads and lots of other good things, mostly under $5. The flavors are good, and the only thing I found strange is their hummus-- a mixture lacking tahini. You can get signature gyros or falafal. It's ready pretty quickly and travels well. There are even some Mexican foods, like chili and tamales, although I've never tried them. It has an independent, not quite hole-in-the-wall flavor to it. Friendly service. In a town where there are a lot of foodies, a few might turn up their nose-- and pay 2-3 times the amount for something only vaguely superior. The building is an old John silvers but the delightful food inside was such a surprise. We pulled into the parking lot which was empty around 1:00 pm. Yelp reviews looked good so we decided to go inside. We ordered one gyro combo so it came with fries and a drink. My husband thought we could share the combo but I chose to get my own gyro. So super glad I did. Both gyros were HUGE and full of meat. The onion was sweet and delicious and they had just the right amount of taziki sauce and tomato. The fries were hot and fresh. We chose to eat inside and while there we heard several orders come through drive thru. We are so happy we stopped and can't wait to go back and try some of their other food. read more

I have been passing by King Gyro daily for several years now and honestly had never planned to try it because the exterior looks...well, desolate. I honestly thought that the restaurant was a closed, abandoned building for a while because of how bad the exterior looks. Fast forward to a week ago - I was reading reviews about local spots on Yelp and I came across the page for King Gyro. Shockingly , I saw the reviews were actually pretty positive (truly , I was very surprised). So, I figured I'd give it a shot! I went to King Gyro with my partner and , upon arriving, we were pleased to see the place had a good little lunch crowd. The menu is bonkers! I think they had pizza rolls and Tilapia (hint: I wouldn't try the fish here). We went the safe route and ordered gyros. The toppings weren't anything special and the fries were comparable to McDonald's but the gyro meat ... It was so good! I think it's the best gyro meat in town, they spice it really well. I struggled as to whether I should rate 3 or 4 stars and decided to go 3 because the exterior, weird menu, and unimpressive everything except the meat. I will go back, however. I'm now hoping I can buy just gyro meat from them because I'd love to have it at home to make sandwiches with. I recommend giving King Gyro a try , it'll probably surprise you! read more

It's already tragic enough when you are looking forward to something just to find the restaurant doesn't have it but to have the worst experience in the world follow it just ruins the whole day! We gladly would have overlooked the lack of Lamb at a Gyro restaurant if the food they did have was good enough. First off the service was atrocious. The man behind the counter was very rude and unhelpful. He tossed stuff on the counter and grunted like a farmer tossing slop in a trough. He also forgot my grandmother's baklava and acted irritated and rude when she returned to ask for the food she already PAID FOR! The beef was very dry as well as the Feta cheese, whatever the sauce was was vinegary and overpowering. The pita was dry and fell apart dropping the contents all over. My grandmother and I also got the fried zucchini. The zucchini was squishy and gooey on the inside while the breading was nearly burned to a char black on the outside. Peeling the zucchini out by itself was the only thing that made them semi-edible. The ranch tasted like vinegar and burned my mouth. Finally desert, my grandmother was the only one to dare it. She tried their "delicious baklava". From first look the top was very dry and flaking apart and the bottom was very squishy. She reported the taste was horrid and did not even finish it. It seemed like a small piece of something you get frozen at Sam's Club thawed and left in the fridge for weeks. In closing, we would never recommend this place. I've been living in Bloomington for several years and am shocked I didn't eat at King Gyro sooner now that I've tried it! We've called ahead and picked up the order at the window a couple of times since the restrictions for Monroe County were put in place. They have enhanced prep and protective wear, which I appreciate. The gyro plate is an amazing deal! So much food for the price, and very tasty. We've had several different items including fried mushrooms, BBQ beef, burgers, tenderloins, etc. The food item that surprised us the most was their fried chicken. It is delicious! King gyros is a Staple in bloomington food and eatery. It has been here for as long as I can remember(and I've been here for way to long). Although it might appear rough on the inside, and the A/C only works part of the time, the service is impeccable and the food top of the line. When you first walk in you get the eerie feeling you have taken a step back in time to about 1985, nothing has changed down to the menu boards that you would find at a little league hot dog stand. While you wait for your food to be made you sit there and wonder why they have not re decorated in probably 35 years, but then you get a whiff of your food from behind the counter and then you realize that decor has nothing to do with good food. If you want something quick for take out or just want to sit and waft in the smell goods of traditional greek food, this is the place to go. read more

I REALLY wanted to give this a four star, but I wasn't overly impressed with my chicken gyros today. First of all, the place looks run-down & closed. You can barely see the "open" sign lit up through the dark windows. The inside has pictures that are SO FADED from the sun that you can barely read the captions. There were no takeout menus in the bin. The owner (I'm assuming) was not overly friendly. I was the ONLY person in there and he seemed annoyed that I asked a few questions about the menu. I watched as he put five, pre-sliced pieces of chicken gyro meat on the flat top, and he heated the pita as well. Once it was all put into a sandwich, the pita was delicious, the chicken was good, but it needed more meat on the sandwich. The lettuce wasn't super fresh looking, and the tomatoes weren't the best (but it's not tomato season). The tzatziki sauce was really good. The gyros was good, just nothing great. I didn't try anything else. This was probably my first and last visit. If you're wanting a gyros/ this will do. Ps- I'm Greek, so I'm used to REALLY good gyros! read more

The inside of the restaurant is old and definitely needs updates and repairs, but it's the food that really matters to me. Their gyro plate is delicious with a huge portion of meat.
