It's great when it works. But be aware that you are on your own when something goes wrong. The customer service is an absolute rubbish. A few months ago our Internet speed went down from 100Mbps to 3Mbps. Yes, three. It took them about 3 weeks to get it fixed. In the process I have been in contact with mediocre customer service reps that are trained to copy/paste boiler plate responses. It doesn't matter whether they've given you an answer or ETA. They'd always ask, "Is there anything else that I can help you with?" so they can end it asap. This time around I had to move my service to a different address. The first rep that I talked to set up the install schedule. A day later I still didn't get any sort of confirmation. I contacted them again. Turns out that the schedule wasn't made at all. So I had to make another request. The rep that I chatted with this time was extremely slow and couldn't get a grip of the issue and task to be done. In the end, the install was scheduled. But wait... I ain't falling for this again. I immediately contacted them again to see if there was an install scheduled. Yes, there was, except that it was scheduled to be done at my OLD ADDRESS!! How can they mix this up?? Come on.. transfer of service to a new address that you were aware that was not in your system yet. Need any more clues on where to send the technician to? Never seen a service with 50+ disconnections every day, during all hours of the day too. Trying to get work done on programs that rely on connection boom you can't get it done. Then you get connection back and load everything up and then your disconnected from the internet again. Our apartment was pre wired with Cox internet so we decided to use them upon move in. The internet was down very often multiple times a day and after 2 technician visits we still saw our network completely lose connection multiple times a day. What's worse was when we called in to request our service be cancelled, the gentleman named Sergio in the loyalty department repeatedly tried to upsell me on other services and trying to match prices to get me to stay. After I said multiple times that I wanted to cancel my service he ultimately was heard giggling and laughing over the phone and did not cancel my account. I was never told that Sergio did not cancel my account and he was ready to end the call. It was only after I was transferred to a higher up that it was explained to me that Sergio did not want to take the hit for losing me as a customer and therefore did not cancel the account. I received a $40 increase on my monthly bill for internet and television service. (From $160 to $206). I went online and found my original package of $160, and, therefore, transferred my service to this pkg. After making this change, I lost 6+ channels which was included on my original plan. I contacted COX to correct the issue. They said they would connect them for an additional $57 monthly fee which would increase my monthly bill even more. I asked to speak with a supervisor, "LIAM HERRERA". He also said that he would not add the channels, without an increase of $57 to my monthly bill. I asked that he cancel new order to revert back to my normal plan. He would not do that either. Lastly, I spoke to the loyalty department, based on my 14 year history. They added the channels back, but charged me a lesser amount. This situation has confirmed that COX does not know what "customer service" is. They are a horrible business. My parents are seniors (over 80). They called becuase their phone wasn't working properly. Turns out their physical phone line was not fully plugged into the wall. The tech fixed this and told them their modem was outdated and replaced it. He failed to tell them the new modem or password. He also didn't tell them it would be an extra $15/ month. I called Cox, they said there was nothing they could do and that there were no promotions available to them - but "not to worry" as they would let us know when there was. Meanwhile - only the new subscriber rate is less than half the rate and the modem is free. I had to rant on for the text to then be asked if I'd like to speak with a customer retention specialist. Yes. yes I would. After another long song and dance and threat to quit - then they ask if I'd like to get the promo rate. The only downside i have to turn in the tv boxes for the new upgraded ones with stream apps and voice activated remotes. read more

Cox is a terrible and unreliable internet provider. Many of us rely on our internet connection to make a living, so when we receive spotty service and outages for half the day, like yesterday, July 1st 2024, we have to make other arrangements instead of using the WiFi we already paid for. Furthermore, to receive an email stating "where we can get free WiFi" that shows our nearest Starbucks location is beyond insulting. We pay Cox for internet in our homes; we understand how coffee shops work. To top it all off, Cox "customer service" line would not even let the customers they are supposedly serving talk to a representative during the outage. I understand that some people might call angrily and annoy the customer service reps, but having worked in a customer service role, I can confidently tell you that listening to angry customers complain is at least 40% of the job. The insulting automated message saying that there is nothing a rep can do about the outage is insulting and childish. During an outage is when a human being should be on the other line providing the best updates they can. I understand that accidents happen and no one can be perfect, however, with a "utility" company like cox who has weaponized the government against their competition through lobbying efforts, the standard needs to be higher. Cable and internet providers who hold a sanctioned monopoly need to be held accountable. Given their refusal to compete in a capitalistic market, Cox has no right to shut down internet for those of us stuck in their territory. There are very few services that can be worse than Cox, one has to try hard to find them. Slow, inconsistent speeds, mostly at 25% or below the promised ones, old cable network inadequate for the bandwidth, dropped calls and connections, pages load slowly. Expensive for the terrible quality it gives out. For example, I currently pay for 500 mb/sec. I checked my speed - it was 43. After the full reset of modem and router, which took several minutes, it went to 112 - I am next to the router, too. less than 25% after reset! Constant need to reset the modem and router. When I used to have their phone service (not anymore), it was bad, too, people could not hear me well, or connection was iffy. Their technicians usually can't help, either. If you have a choice, don't sign up for Cox. They are monopoly however in many areas - antitrust folks need to look at this. read more

This report is only about cancelling and how-to cancel Cox.com Cox communications, Inc services Bad customer loyalty retention practices. (Their technical support has been a good experience.) To cancel COX service you must at least make a phone call (may be possible in their store but I didn't try.) To cancel Cox service call 1) 1-800-234-3993. M-F, EAstern time, closed holidays. 2) Option 5. 3) Most important: Record the full name of the agent or employee identifier along with the date/time of your call. 4) They will ask why you're cancelling. Ask what list of responses their system will accept. 5) Confirm the cancellation went through properly in their system. 6) Record cancellation date and, if keeping some services, what the new fees will be going forward. *be sure your email contact is current to receive the confirmation. It's also a good idea to access your account online to also confirm the service is cancelled. Some background: I searched through their website and it's impossible to cancel online. They force you to use inefficient modes of contacting them. Option 5 is their "loyalty/customer retention" connection. I tried other options but they transfer you back here. The retention feels more like imprisonment as they ask various questions on why you want to cancel and if your response isn't good enough or doesn't match one of their pre-designated list of answers they will argue with you about it. --Yes, they will argue with you, the person paying for them to exist. And they'll try to sell you some other service or make an offer to keep you. I had to make multiple calls to cancel. After this experience, I want as little to do with them as possible. This is not how to maintain and grow the customer base. read more

I run a business out of my home with my husband where we meet with clients daily on zoom, because of this we've always opted for the top tier plan that offers the most data and speed. And when we moved to Irvine 2 years ago this was no exception. To say this provider has been a nightmare would be a gross understatement. Out service goes out several times a month for hours with no warning and in the past 2 days it's gone down in my area 3 times and left us in a position to where we had to reschedule clients and lost out on income. Unreal. Just Unreal. NEW customer. I received two new COX cable boxes in the mail to start my account. My Geek Squad guys (who were amazing) came to install my TVS and they said they would do the cable boxes too - again because THEY are amazing. They advised me my bedroom COX cable line didn't work. I called COX and they said they would send a guy out to check the line. NEVER mentioning a charge - because seriously - why would I be charged for their line that is not working. They mail their cable boxes to customers because their lines are supposed to be WORKING. The COX guy gets here and realizes actually the new customer cable box I received doesn't work. He replaces the little amazing box they mailed me with a bigger clunky older one and leaves. Then I see my bill. COX charged me $100 on my first bill for this service call. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME?? You charge me because you have to come out to verify your lines work and then realize your equipment doesn't?? I am certain customer service will apologize and refund. NOPE. I CALL but they leave at 6 PM. I have to Chat if I want help. SO chat I did...for OVER an hour with two different "Customer Service" Agents. Meagan, who can care so-much-less than not-at-all, says ...well the technician noted the charge was valid...so it stays. I am like excuse me, Meagan?? TO REPLACE A FAULTY BOX THAT YOU MAILED ME AS A NEW CUSTOMER?? The second agent I get...because I try again...was Kirk G. Oh, Kirk, he is smarter. Let's call him the Time-Milker. They have tried to automate phone calls and have offshored their live support, we all know how inconsistent that can be! When I call they send me to collection - these people are either robots or from another country. They continued to repeat the same statement over and over, and when you asked to be transferred to a supervisor, they wouldn't. If you want to speak to someone else you have to hang up and call back. This review is based on Cox as a company rather than a particular store. I live in Irvine and the only service here when I came was Cox, so I put up with their crap just to have some internet. Their prices kept going up. I was never offered any discounts or promotions. Other than the ACP benefit offered through the government and that only covered $30 of the bill. I was paying $183 for ONLY internet, nothing else. When I started getting the ACP benefit, they raised the costs so I never saw a difference. This company is price gouging and their scam artists. Their service is horrible too. Every single day the internet had to be rebooted, it would never stay on my WiFi, I'd wake up and it would be on Cox WiFi and I'd have to reset it daily. I think they were rigging it like that to increase my bill. I finally switched to google fiber which became available over the last year. I pay a flat $100/month and no charge to rent equipment. I switched in Dec 2023 and haven't lost internet not once. I paid my final bill which was smaller obviously because I cancelled before the end of the cycle. $49 was what my total bill was and was told would be my final payment. Now it's February, 2 months later I'm being hit with another bill of $30. I called and apparently because I didn't finish out the entire month, cox wants that $30 that the ACP didn't cover. When I was told it would be covered until the 31st of Dec. They're trying to tell me the bill is from the government. NOOOO it's from cox, it's the portion of my bill that the acp benefit was supposed to cover. Which means cox expected $79 in total from me for 2 weeks of service. lol.
