Overall, good BBQ although it wasn't anything special in my humble opinion. Brisket was very good with beans and mac & cheese. Like any BBQ places, it offers a variety of BBQ sauces for whatever your taste buds require. If you like something hot, you can definitely try some. Brisket was very good even without any sauce on it. That's how I usually like my BBQ meat. If it tastes good, why should you cover it up with sauces?! Since it was a weekday night, it was not crowded at all even during the normal dinner hours. I can imagine it'll be crowded for the weekend and for some big game days since there aren't much going on in Manhattan per se. read more

I don't know what the flippin' hype is about this place. People, you live in a place where BBQ can happen in your backyard in a matter of an hour! DO NOT CROSS GO and have these people serve you. Servers were uptight (maybe they are forced to eat their own food), drinks watered down and all around, just not a pleasant vibe. read more

I'm not a BBQ snob -- and I'm not a 1000% carnivore ... That being said... The Mr. ordered a 3-piece rib. I don't like ribs -- he almost ate the bone. Enough said. He also had the turkey sandwich. Tender and juicy. He also had the coleslaw --if you're not a fan of pineapple you won't like the slaw. Just a heads up. I liked -- he didn't. I had smoke stack nachos -- best of both worlds -- smoke stack meat was really good (juicy, flavorful). It also had tortilla chips (duh, nachos!), baked beans (super delish!), cheese, and jalapeños with a little side of sour cream. Tasted great with 2 different sauces: the TX and vinegar based ones (ahhh! Specific names are at a loss for the moment!!). I'd definitely order the smoke stack sandwich and baked beans as another option solely based off what I ordered today. Drive through is a plus. Bottom line-- great meats, sides, and sauce options. We were there mid-afternoon could definitely see this place busy in evenings and weekends! read more

I dont care how much other people like this place. But my first experience is really disappointing. The 1/4 ribs are so tiny and dry, the tip of the bones have no meet at all. Maybe i'm just the in bad luck, but i will never come here again. read more

I do not recommend this place. I have had BBQ all over the US and by far this place is at the bottom of all the places I have had. We had take out and the pulled pork and brisket was so dry that it was still hard to swallow even drenched in BBQ sauce. Will not try this place again, will stick with Hot Rodz in JC for local BBQ read more

Great BBQ! Get the nachos, they are amazing. The service is good too. The sauce was a little runny, but still very tasty. I wouldn't get the I-70 fries, they were limp and soggy. Get the sweet potato fries instead. They also have a drive-thru that goes pretty fast, would recommend if you are picking up dinner for a large group or family. read more

This was a surprising suggestion made by someone we went to visit in Manhattan. Cox Biro's obviously made for many inappropriate jokes. lol Its a nice chain style restaurant, Lots of hats hanging from the ceiling. Order at the front of the line and pick it up at the end of the line. Now, being a southern girl, Its very hard to please my BBQ needs. This wasn't bad. It wasn't the best. Everyone in the group we were with enjoyed the BBQ. Between us all I think we had every kind of meat on the menu. No complaints by any of us. Just be forewarned the mac n cheese has some spice to it! All in all I would go back if I was in town and had a hankering for some BBQ. read more

I love Cox bros. They have amazing BBQ. Their meat is super tender and the sauces are great. I really enjoyed their beef brisket and my boyfriend love the pulled pork. Also, they have the best sweet potato fries of any place I've ever had them. The place was clean and the atmosphere was great. Prices are very reasonable. So glad this place is still around. read more

Tl;dr - really don't bother calling in your order because it won't save you any time. I hope the food is good because the service blew this evening. Put in an order for pickup - got there and the gal at the window said she forgot to put it in because it was so busy. Ok mistakes happen; pay for the order and sit down to wait. I realize after waiting for a bit that I didn't know the order number - glad I looked as the order they placed wasn't the order I ordered (verbally in person). Wth? read more

Arrived after football game and the crew struggled to get plates out to people. It's game day, better get organized. Several empty tables in the place but food took over 40 min to come out and came out luk warm. I had the gumbo, not great and not warm at all. How can you not get hot plates out within minutes? It's BBQ, it's all pre made, everything on our table was pre-made except for fries... 40minutes and sub par at best read more

I have eaten here a few times now. All around my experience has been positive. I've made it a point to try all the meats. The ribs and sausage were good. The brisket was probably the most disappointing thing I have tried there as was the pulled pork. both were very bland and dry. The "sides" were as they should be... a side..not the star of the BBQ show. Now I know what to get when I go back..and I will be back. Ribs and sausage please read more

This place is much better than Famous Dave's. Owned by the same people that run Coco Bolos. The prices are reasonable and service is always fast. I tend to order the smokehouse salad with pulled pork (salad with whatever meat you want on top) or the Q deal (meat, side and drink) for brisket and sweet potato fries. This is my go to place if I'm craving some bbq in town. read more

They had 4 different kinds of sauce to choose from. Of course, I tried all 4! Pulled pork was very tasty with the mac and cheese and sweet potato fries. The mac and cheese was slightly spicy. It was exactly what I had been craving! read more

The Carolina sandwich was fab as was the plain Pulled Pork sandwich. The smoky flavor came through and was accented by any of the sauces. My fave was a toss-up between Original and Sweet. The pineapple cole slaw was a treat! read more

Very impressed with their well-cooked but still juicy Beef Brisket and tender pulled pork. Great for lunch sandwich. Cannot go wrong with these two. The smoke turkey is also a decent choice for whit meat diners. Now the Smoked BBQ ribs. 10 hours of smoking produced very tender and fall-of-bone ribs. However, apparently, the quality controls of cooking varies every time I went. Sometimes it is very good, but some other times are under-cooked. Most of the meats are unseasoned or lightly seasoned. They will have to go with their 4 different in-house sauces. You got to try to find which one is your personal favor. For sure it is great place to dine with family and few good friends if they can have better controls of the smokers. read more

Great place for large groups...tons of big seats for all that food you are about to eat. We had the 3 meat Memphis, ribs and chicken nachos. All were good. The 3 meat sandwich - pass in both sides of the bread or u will be filling like you gained 50 lbs when leaving. The meat is decent - touch it up with some to the BBQ sauce and that special honey mustard. read more

As a huge BBQ fan, I appreciate it even if it isn't quite perfect. With that said i am very disappointed with Cox Bros BBQ. i ordered a 3 meat platter with 2 sides and 2 wings. The brisket was dry, ribs and chicken wings were tough, the sausage was okay. The portion size of size and meat and sides is very skimpy. I spent $40 on a very disappointing meal. They serve it on top of stale pieces of white bread. They couldn't splurge for some Texas toast or garlic bread. read more

I've given this place multiple chances all through their drive-thru. If the inside experience is anything like their drive-thru experience I would have to say their customer service is horrendous. Not ONE time have I encountered a friendly person in the drive-thru, prices are out of line, and 3 of the 4 times they forgot something in my order. To be fair and balanced the food is pretty decent including the pie slices they serve. I have spoken to several other people in Manhattan and have heard the same things about poor customer service. So I'm not sure why the reviews on here praise their service. I now know why they went out of business the first time around. read more

3/5 Stars from me. Cox Brothers was okay to good BBQ, but far from the better BBQ places in the region (For that, go east to Kansas City). I had the Brisket, beans and fries. The brisket was a little dry and the taste made me think it has been sitting around for a while. It did not taste fresh. The portion size was ample and the meat was fairly lean (which may have contributed to it being a little dry). The beans were fantastic. Nice, large chunks of pork, with a hearty, smokey flavor. I was a bit disappointed in the available BBQ sauces. The "original" sauce was too vinegar-y. It tasted more like Memphis/Southern style BBQ. Not Kansas-style BBQ, at all. The other sauces were mediocre. The best of the group was the "jazz" sauce. It was tangy and spicy. For a restaurant of this time, and for the quantity and quality of food, Cox Brothers seemed rather expensive. Expect to pay somewhere in the range of $15 or more per person by the time you add in "extras" and sales tax. That wouldn't be bad for a more upscale place, but Cox has the feel of a fast food joint. All in all, it wasn't bad. I'd give it another shot. It certainly isn't the best BBQ I've ever had, but neither was it the worst. read more

For what it is, Cox Bros BBQ is a decent place to grab some barbecue. It is by no means authentic Kansas City BBQ, but it's relatively inexpensive and the menu is expansive so you can fulfill your craving. There are only a few barbecue restaurants in Manhattan, KS, so even though the food isn't anything to write home about, Cox Bros is an okay place to get some BBQ and the price is right. read more

Burnt end Memphis nachos are incredible! Huge portions for $9. The burnt ends are some of the best I've had. I've ate here a couple of times before and have never been disappointed. I also like the original bbq sauce read more

Visited Cox Bros while passing through Manhattan to visit family. We made it through the line right before the lunch crowd came in. The woman who took our order was friendly as were the rest of the ladies who delivered our food. I got the Smokestack sandwich which was yummy a couple bits of gristle, but that's to be expected when you're eating bbq. Hubs got pulled pork sandwich which he enjoyed. We liked the variety of sauce choices. Our kids enjoyed their corn dogs, but I would recommend having a mac and cheese without the kick for children who don't like spicy food. Overall experience: an enjoyable meal & friendly staff. read more

If you want BBQ done right, stop by Cox Bro's when you see it. I had the Brisket and SmokeStack. Sides of baked beans and potato salad. I'm not gonna lie, brisket was pretty average, but that smokestack... 5 stars. Also, the baked beans were remarkably good. So there's my remark. They served it with a piece of toast, and they'll give you another piece if you ask to make yourself a pretty good sandwich. There is a small cart with onions and I believe peppers and pickles, but I don't remember, I just hogged up a pile of onions and ran to my seat, where there were 4 different bottles of BBQ sauce waiting for me. Sweetest to spiciest, basically. The BBQ deserves 4.259999999 stars. The price is what leaves it with an overall rating of 3. You get about $10 worth of food, and you pay $15. (but I gotta say, after walking in and smelling it, and seeing the food on everyone's plates, they could've told me $25 and I wouldn't have refused.) Good place to eat. Nice atmosphere.... and I'm also gonna add that there wasn't a waitress in there that wasn't pretty hot. (although chubby girls at a BBQ joint are never a bad sign.) read more

Despite getting the order wrong and it being the McDonald's version of bbq best thing on the menu it's the motts apple juice

I love that this place has a drive through but is not really "fast food"! The BBQ, fries, beans and potato salad are all great but my favorite think is the chicken quesadilla with tomato ranch... Yummmmmmm! Totally laid back and kid friendly. read more

Went here with a party of 8. All of our food came out cold and dry. The nachos were burnt and we had to send them back twice. We let the manager know and he offered free dessert?!? I've always loved the food here and the quesadilla is outstanding but you lost a weekly customer tonight. About a moth ago, I ordered the Carolina pulled pork sandwich and found 4 pieces of nasty cartilage before finally just throwing out the sandwich . Tonight, I opted for the brisket sandwich and there was so much fat in the sandwich, it was completely inedible. I tried to remove all the dripping fat and wound up with barely any meat at all. The bottom of the bun was also soaked in grease and I threw it all in the trash. The prices are high and I expect some sort of quality in the product if you are going to ask those prices. You have failed miserably! read more

Great place. Panera-style setup, where you order at the counter, but not at all "fast food." Perfect balance of price, convenience, speed, etc. I've done quick 30 minute lunches, but also hung out for over an hour enjoying the beer. Best BBQ in town for the price. Also, whenever I've gone the service is amazing, with people walking around asking if you need refills, etc. Also have yet to be there and not see the owner asking how things are. read more

Good bbq and friendly staff. Way better than famous daves for the price and flavor. Only drawback I have to say is that they don't offer military discount. read more

Disappointed to say the least, heard lots of good things about this place. I had the brisket and sausage platter, brisket was very dry and seemed it sat out before being served. Sausage was fine, both of my sides which were macaroni and potato salad were very bland. Hardly any taste. The sauces are very good though, which is a necessity because you won't be getting flavor from the food. Probably won't be eating here again. read more

Took a day trip visit to Manhattan and stopped here for lunch with the parents. I had the sausage and smokestack along with the broccoli salad and coleslaw with pineapple. What what?! I love barbeque and burnt ends are the best. This place had good stuff. I loved the coleslaw but the broccoli salad more. I could have eaten that all day. It had crasins and golden raisins and goodness. Get it. read more

Potato salad, hmm, as I was eating there were coarse, string-like things in my mouth. What the heck? I looked at the potato salad and found several 1 to 1.5 inch long pieces of coarse, twine-y stuff.
