So order the asparagus fries because they are really good they lay them on a sauce like an aïoli and on the side serve of vinaigrette so a great contrast. In town for a college tour. Found this cool tapas style restaurant and bar in the Poyntz area of downtown Manhattan. Initeresting menu - in a good way - from Kobe sliders to fried mozzarella to pulled pork quesadillas there's something for almost everyone. We had the above and the big girl chicken and biscuit. The chicken was juicy but the breading was overcooked(?) - it tasted good. Had the whiskerita drink was a nice mix of sour sweet and salt. Had to try the cinnamon bun skillet - very gooey. We stopped by for dinner when we were in town for a few weeks of classes at the university, and were impressed by the creative, flavorful, and delicious food and cocktails. Most of the Bourbon & Baker menu is tapas style, with a Southern theme. We ordered and shared the duck tacos, shrimp & grits, and duck fat French fries; plenty of food for two and all excellent! For drinks, we ordered the seasonal old fashioned (peach iced tea) and whiskeyrita - both were very tasty. We sat at the bar and our service was very quick and polite, and it was great to see the talented bartender at work. Highly recommend a visit! read more

Since I was driving, I went with a Boulevard Pale Ale on tap ($7 as of 06/2025), but this is the place to get your whiskey dance on. food: At the bartender's recommendation, I had the fried bologna slider and it's a world class taste treat ($8.50). Highly recommended. The asparagus fries are equally interesting and fun ($7.50). To be fair the kitchen is pretty amazing. Small plates inspired by a Southern flare. Nice staff and the food was pretty quick to come out, but nothing was great. I went with some friends and we just ordered a bunch of things. We took advantage of the 25% off happy hour pricing so I could taste as many dishes as possible. The Chicken and Waffle was the best bite but nothing was exceptional. We visited Bourbon & Baker while driving from Texas to Wisconsin with our two kids under 5. We were totally burned out but wanted to eat a good meal, and their patio had more than enough space for our family (and if the kids made a mess, at least we were outside). My 2 year old immediately proceeded to drop my husband's ID down the crack of the wooden seating, with no way to get it out without taking apart the bench. The manager went searching for a power drill and the executive chef wound up coming out to unscrew the benches so we could retrieve the ID. The food and cocktails were delicious and creative as well - the asparagus fries, fried bologna slider, arancini and country salad (with a jammy egg!) were all standout. The whole staff and chef really came through and went above and beyond for us! If we find ourselves in Manhattan again this will be the first place we go. read more

I really want to like this place. The vibe is good, the food quality is pretty good but small portions. Even the swordfish special we had was a 3 in.² piece of swordfish that was tasty and about eight potato cubes on basically a side plate for the price of an entrée, for the inexpensive price of adding a little more potato and possibly a veggie, it would seem like a much better value. And I'm not sure why a place with bourbon in their name would serve an old-fashioned with a scoop of ice rather than one large cube. Service is average. read more

(Know before you go) Got on a short list for a table - special requests for chairs with backs as we had the daughters with us. Very glad that we found this restaurant. We are in Manhattan for a day and wanted to have an experience that took a minute while we waited for an event to start. Bourbon and Baker's small plates did the trick. The waitress was excellent. She gave us an overview of the restaurant and told us what to expect. Basically, the small plates don't all come out at once and so you have time to savor each one. The day was lovely and we enjoyed the outdoor seating on the sidewalk patio. We absolutely loved the pulled pork slider on cornbread. We almost didn't order the bologna slider, but we're so glad we did because it is the first time that I had baloney fried that was shaved instead of a solid piece. Very delicious. The arancini were packed with flavor. We enjoyed trying the shrimp and grits, which is a favorite dish of mine. This restaurant's presentation was unique with a cashew cream sauce instead of cheese. The flower tortilla chips that came with cheese dip were fried to perfection. We ended our meals, sharing a piece of cheesecake, flavored with bourbon and nuts. We didn't even begin to touch the menu, there were so many other things to try like a slider biscuit and jambalaya. Highly recommend. read more

One of the biggest scams of a restaurant I've ever had the dismay of walking into. Service was good, they seated us before opening. The overall restaurant setting was nice, little too dark for my tastes. Could use some brighter bulbs. I could hardly see my food haha. My issue isn't the food quality, the foods pretty solid. The problem rears its head in terms of being terrible for the wallet. You're spending around about on average of 10 to 20 dollars PER person PER plate. And they try to recommend you 3 plates per party member. Absolutely not. And you'd think oh, the portions must be good at least? From first had experience, not at all. I got the chicken and waffles appetizer for 9 bucks. They put on my plate A QUARTER OF A WAFFLE and a SINGLE Chicken tender. Which btw took 20 minutes to apparently make. I had as well the duck fries which were tasty, a lipstick on a mule which was unappealing. Tasted straight medicinal. And the red beans and sausage which was extremely bland. I'm sure there's some amazing food here, but I'm not going to break the bank trying to find out haha. read more

One of my favorite restaurants/places in town. Wouldn't not expect to find a classy joint like this in MHK. Full disclaimer: if you're going here to eat, it's going to be an expensive night. There are a limited number larger plate (entrees) but honestly we embraced the tapas and had fun having a little bit of everything. It is an experience, definitely block out some time to stay a while, relax, and eat. I have also just stopped in and had a drink. Great cocktail selection for not bourbon drinkers as well as beer. As a bourbon fanatic, they have a wonderful selection of bourbon and other whiskeys. They make a great old fashioned and a Manhattan.
