Was told I had to stop in to try the raspberry bean dip while I was in town! It was quite tasty - pro tip is to stir it (you might think that's common sense but it did not occur to us at first). I also got a side of French fries - great portion size, perfectly cooked, and some good dipping sauce options. We had a few pirate Nancy's (aka Busch lite, pineapple juice, and coconut rum) and they had no business being as good as they were. Very good choice. First time coming here and omg it was so good. I love finding good local places to visit, and this place has definitely made the list. There are many other things on the menu that I want to try; I'm already looking forward to coming back! We sat at the bar, and the bartender (Zander) was great. Very quick and helpful, our order was perfect. I love the woodwork on the mirror frame behind the bar (idk if there's a specific name for that), it looks so cool and vintage. Came in for lunch and was very impressed with this place. The inside is pretty small but we were able to get a table quickly even though it was packed inside. After eating, I see why it was packed. This place is great! We just HAD to try the "world famous" raspberry bean dip. You should too! I've been thinking about it ever since! So Long is a MHK staple, and for good reason. Great atmosphere, great people, and great food. It is usually busy (for good reason), so be prepared to wait. Luckily, on my most recent visit, my girlfriend and I were able to be seated immediately. If you've never had a Nancy (light beer with a splash of pineapple juice), go ahead and order that first while you look at the menu. It isn't well known outside of Aggieville unless you are a KSU alum. Then order the raspberry chipotle black bean dip. It sounds odd, but is super good. On this visit, I tried "The Bird", which is a southwest chicken sandwich on a hoagie roll. It was super filling, and between that and the dip, I wasn't able to finish everything. Where do I even start with this gem of a business that's in the heart of Manhattan, KS? Okay first off I heard that chili, amongst many things, is a huge staple in Kansas so I knew I needed to try it somewhere on my business. I searched this place while staying in Manhattan and decided to give it a go. I ordered the chili cheese burger with a side of French fries and good heavens this is whole plate was a delivery from god I'm not even joking! This is quite honestly the best damn chili burger I have ever had in my life (as of now :P) and I really wished that this restaurant was back at home in Southern California. Anyways, the chili cheese burger was amazing with its different layers of flavors of course starting with the main taste bud ticklers being the chili cheese and burger patty. What really made it a lot more unique was the sour cream that was added in the mix along with the onions. I'm going to start doing this at home to try to get at least a small sliver of remembrance from eating at this fine restaurant. The vibes of the restaurant was so cool and immaculate! If you're a fan of music, skulls/skeletons, and a dive bar feel this is the place to go. The staff was absolutely nice, friendly, and checked in on me often. Visiting with a local who said we had to order the raspberry chipotle black bean dip and he was right. It was amazing. I went with the steak and cheddar sandwich and while it was tasty, there wasn't a ton of steak on it. The potato salad was divine with egg and bacon bits in it. Drinks standardly subpar and exactly what you'd expect for a college bar. Although the hostess was quite surly, we had great service at the table. It's a small joint so it can get pretty loud but at least during dinner tables seemed to rotate pretty quickly and we only had a short wait to be seated. It is mostly high tops with backless stools but they were wide, solid and padded so it wasn't too bad. But not the most comfortable. read more

First off, I try to eat local when traveling. I especially look for good reviews and some local flare. This is how I came to attempt the So Long Saloon. Didn't end well and my take is as follows: 1st off... Skip it. I Went in solo on a Sunday night to eat supper. The place was at about 75% capacity based in seat cocoount and was told I couldn't sit at a table or booth because I'm solo... was offered the lone open seat at the bar which was quite literally nested next to the shitcan..when I say next to it, I mean the stool was literally touching it and I'd likely have been rubbing shoulders with the guy seated in the next stool and any server who approached the server statiin.. No Bueno. I asked if that was the only option and asked again to be seated at a table only to be told no again as i was solo... the server offered zero and i mean NO resistance when I told the young server I'd skip it before I'd shit basically on the garbage can.. come on Manhattan!!! Perhaps next time welcome a paying guest as if the business was welcomed as opposed to resisting the fact that I didn't want to rub up on a shitcan while I ate... P.S. As an update... I drove over to the Vista Drive Inn and got precisely what I wanted in plentiful taste and portion... I won't be back ever for an attempt at the So Long Saloon... perhaps a place really is as it's name implies.. So Long! read more

The restaurant was a little smaller than I expected, but it was definitely packed full of character, as well as patrons. The staff were all very friendly and provided good service. My wife and I shared chips and queso as an appetizer. Both the chips and the queso were very good. The only thing I would have changed would be giving the queso just a little kick to it. For our meals, we both got the temptation burger with fries as a side. She ordered hers as is, but I substituted the mayo for bourbon bbq sauce. It was truly a really good burger. In my opinion the fries were fine, however they left a little bit to be desired. I really like fries with some sort of seasoning or topping on them. I was in Onaga, KS (staying in Centralia, KS) for school with some classmates and we headed to Manhattan, KS for a day trip. All 5 of us are from California. All but one are from larger cities, so the Kansas life was a culture shock to us and we needed some city time on our free day. I'm a foodie, so...Of course, I checked out Yelp to find us an early dinner spot. So Long Saloon came up with good ratings, so we headed there. The menu is pretty simple by my standards. Most of us ordered burgers and I got an order of fried pickles to share. "Frickles," if you will. Haha. The frickles were a big hit with me and my classmates. I've never had fried pickles that were so crunchy before. And I loved my burger. I forget what it was called, but it have a deliciously soft fried egg in it with a yolk that burst on my first bite. If I ever find myself in Kansas again, I'd try to stop by here. I really want to try their peanut butter burger. The service was FANTASTIC. We had multiple people checking up on us. They were super attentive and incredibly friendly. The saloon and decorated as one would expect a saloon to be. I love that casual, dive type of feel, so I loved it. Don't be alarmed to find stuffed animals everywhere you go in Kansas. Seems to be a staple around there. read more

So Long's, I love you. It isn't just the nostalgia of reminiscing on college memories made here...the food and drinks are just straight up delicious. If you're a first timer, the bean dip is a must try. I get it - the combination sounds odd at first, but when you stir that chipotle raspberry into the dip... wow. Just perfect. You can't go wrong with any of the burgers here. For a lighter lunch, (or to pair with bean dip) I like a couple sliders. Absolutely enjoy them with the pickles. They add the perfect crunch and bite of dill to the slider. If you're up for a drink, you've got to try a Nancy. My personal favorite is the Pirate Nancy. Just give it a try! You won't regret it. Expect a wait, especially on game days and other busy times in the 'Ville. Luckily, there's lots of local shopping in the area where you can pass the time! read more

This is an iconic place from when my oldest brother attended KSU decades ago. The margs and Nancy's are good reasons to stop in and grab a drink and absorb the vibe and nostalgia. My burger and rings were good and service was attentive. I was a little disappointed in the dill pickle fries due to how greasy they were and lack of dillness flavor. The special shrimp wrap was good but needed more filling. Definitely wished I would have ordered the chipotle raspberry cheese dip but saved it for visiting their sister mexican restaurant Taco Lucha later that night. read more

This saloon is a stone's throw from KSU. You'll see lots of KSU students inside the bar, which a sign the food is good. The interior is decorated in vintage country music posters and they had three or four televisions broadcasting the Royals baseball game. The hostess sat me immediately at the bar. It was packed inside. The bartender/waiter showed me a picture of the fajita special on his phone. It looked good, but I came for a burger! I ordered a bun-less bleu cheese burger with a side of spicy coleslaw. The slaw was crisp, fresh, but not too spicy. I'm from the land of green Chile and like things hot. The bleu cheese burger had an abundance of blue cheese, two strips of crispy bacon, onions, tomatoes, and was wrapped in 2 romaine lettuce leaves. It was cooked medium well and super juicy. Also, it was quite large and filling. I saw the bartender give a Pitt coed a free drink called a Nancy. She told him she was visiting her friend at KSU. Apparently, it's Old Milwaukee draft mixed with pineapple juice. She didn't like it, but I witnessed quite a few being sold while I was there. If I had been drinking beer I would have tried one. The bartenders and waitresses had a laid back, energetic vibe. I would definitely give this one another visit. The burger was quite good. read more

Decent college vibe kind of joint. It's pretty small, but they have some takes on food that you don't see everywhere. Started with the Black Bean and Raspberry dip with chips, weird and good all in the same bite. I'd for sure try it. They claim to be famous for the Nancy - Busch Lite + Pineapple Juice, tell me that isn't a college bar drink. Add some rum and they call it a Pirate Nancy and it's not to bad. Not a big Busch Lite fan, but not bad. I had the Peanut Butter Burger cause why not. It had kind of a Thai vibe - sriracha plus pb smothered on a 1/2 burger. The only issue is the burger was overly done, so it was a little dry. Had they made that bad boy medium, it easily could have had another star. Fries where well done - I recommend a little honey mustard on the side - helped the burger and pretty good on the fries as well! read more

So Long Saloon is an Aggieville mainstay. They're known for their burgers, but also serve sandwiches and salads. You can wash down your meal with a cold drink from their massive and well-stocked bar. I went with the Saloon Burger and added bacon, which was served with a side of potato salad. It was a perfectly acceptable burger although it was a little overcooked. I would recommend ordering one level below what you normally order, i.e. if you order medium, you might order medium rare. The potato salad was a little bland. It wasn't bad, but it didn't jive like I thought it should. That's okay, sometimes that happens. Service was excellent. It was a little slow when I visited however my server wasn't bashful. The service was superb! Talked with (Jay and Travis- always good to see them smiling and such! ) Bar staff kept my drinks on full. I want to thank the nice lady for taking great care of us...
