Small restaurant in Junction City. Plenty of seating with a bar. Visited this restaurant for an early dinner around 5 pm and it wasn't crowded. Ordered the carne asada plate ($20) and fish taco ($5). The carne asada had good flavor but wasn't the most tender. The grilled pepper and sides were very good. Would not get the fish taco again because of the smell. read more

Driving through tonight, we were in desperate need of dinner. This spot had the best Yelp reviews in the area, so we decided to give it a shot. When we pulled up and saw the cracked glass front door, we hesitated. Hard. It looked like the opening scene of a crime drama. But traffic had been hell, and our stomachs won. We pressed on--and we're glad we did. The Pollo Loco was downright delicious: a juicy, thinly smashed chicken breast grilled just right, blanketed in melty cheese and topped with slices of perfectly ripe avocado. I was licking my fork, trying to pretend I had table manners. The refried beans got my attention: "Wait... did they do something special to these?" I seriously considered ordering a pint to go. L devoured his Tacos Barbacoa Salazar and washed it down with a mango margarita, giving both an enthusiastic double thumbs-up. I really wanted to enjoy this spot, but unfortunately the food didn't quite meet expectations. The carne asada tasted more like beef jerky, dry and lacking the flavor you'd expect from a good marinade or seasoning. The enchiladas were overly salty, and I actually felt a headache coming on afterward. It wasn't a terrible experience, but I definitely wouldn't bring my mother here. She has a sixth sense when it comes to bad Mexican food and wouldn't let me live it down. I get the feeling most people come for the drinks, not the dishes. So I'm writing this as I go at the restaurant as I pulled up to the location I noticed their parking area was kinda small but it was easy to still find parking we got seated right away and shortly after we got are chips and salsa first then our drinks shortly after I had ordered some queso to go along with the chips the homemade salsa is kinda mild if you can't handle spice like my wife it's not for you but I loved it almost went thru 2 cups of it their queso is also delicious but kinda mild at this point I've already received my first refill so you won't have to wait very long my wife had gotten a el pollo and she found it very delicious but didn't like the pineapples I myself hadn't gotten the el burro and found it very good the portion size is great I couldn't really eat all of it and I'm a bigger guy even with a dad bod and the prices for everything are reasonable I would definitely recommend this place and if the owner happens to see this it was a fantastic time it was my first time here I'll definitely come back but if you are interested in bringing more revenue to this place I would suggest getting with DoorDash and uber eats because I think you would honestly double your revenue with getting that delivery service going without extreme hassle on your end read more

Don't be deterred by the outside. One of our crew was highly skeptical, then walked in and said "Well this is unexpected!" We had quick and friendly service and enjoyed some fresh salsa and queso that was far above average. The portions were huge and we should have read other reviews first and taken their warning since we were traveling and unable to box up what would have been a few lunches. i am not one to give out many 5 star reviews but this place in the middle of kansas had me completely blown away. we got salsa n chips, queso, pollo loco (aka acp/arroz con pollo), and beef enchiladas. chips were nothing crazy but salsa and queso were awesome(tell tale sign of a great mexican place). pollo loco was phenomenal - chicken was perfectly cooked! thin, juicy, but also crispy and flavorful. the side of guac given was generous and very fresh! i highly recommend the charro beans they were extremely flavorful. beef enchiladas were also amazing. the service was scarily quick. the entire resteraunt was a vibe and decorated beautifully (contrary to the outside). the table next to us got margs and i might have to come back for those next time they looked delish. can't say enough amazing things about this place - don't bother with any other place in town. read more

Bro there's no way. We got our drinks taken and then we're asked if we still needed the menus when we hadn't even ordered. I then had to ask about 6 times for my daughter's drink and side which she only got AFTER she ate her main entree and that's after waiting an hour and a half for our food to come out. After we ate I had to ask for our bill and for it to be split. She asked me to write what I wanted to be split and I did, she didn't understand and when I said "just forget it I'll pay all together" she said "well someone split it the way I put them on the separate bills" knowing good and well the "someone" was me. I understand if they were swamped, but they weren't. And I also understand if the waitress was new but that was also never vocalized all I got in return was her trying to be as angry as I was because how dare I be upset that someone wasn't treating my family nicely. Visited on an afternoon and was nearly the only people in the restaurant when we arrived. Server took order and brought food but never saw him again because he brought the wrong food. We had read other's reviews, so tried the queso which was delish as was the salsa. Salsa was very fresh and aromatic. Friend had the birria tacos and requested charo beans. She loved the beans, but was not a fan of the chicharone or sausage in them, but removed those and that suited her. Refried beans were covered in melted cheese and the arroz was spiced perfectly. Stopped here today while out adventuring at Geary and Milford. We were hesitant because it looked busy but called and they said it was slow, no wait. My husband really enjoyed the food and said it was his new favorite place. He said the ground beef was flavorful and delicious in his enchiladas and liked the mole sauce. My daughter enjoyed her chicken fajitas and I thought the panchita chimichanga was pretty good. The service was excellent as well. The portions are huge so it was well worth the money spent. The regular salsa was very flavorful and the hot was definitely hot but not super flavorful, mixing them together was the key. The best Mexican food I've had in the States. I had the enchilada mole tinga and my husband had the enchiladas camarones. We shared a guacamole appetizer, which had roasted jalapenos on the side and homemade chips. We brought plenty home for dinner tomorrow as well. Cip was our server and he was courteous and friendly. The restaurant is one of those " you blink and you miss it" from the outside, yet it's warm and welcoming - an authentic pub atmosphere - inside. Moved from Texas to Kansas. We were looking for some great Mexican food and we were not disappointed with El Patron Dos. Huge serving sizes, great Mango Margs and I highly recommend the Elotes appetizer. Our waitstaff was friendly and attentive and even though the place was packed, the service was good. WOW! I was shocked at how good the Mexican food was. My son is stationed nearby and I told him I wish there was a good Mexican restaurant around...he's says "Let's go to El Patron Dos, I think you'll like it." I figured this place would have normal size portions, but they were huge! I had the mole enchiladas and my son had the Birria tacos. The rice was probably the best Mexican rice I have had. Not sure what their secret is. The Birria Tacos even comes with a side of consume! The ambience is festive, like a place you would go to for happy hour or a Friday night after work, let loose session. Staff was very friendly and helped us even though we showed up before closing.
