The first aspect of a good burger is the quality of the patti. Hillside Cafe's burger are handmade, they are not that Sysco crappie meat that most restaurants serves. This is a good seasoned meat that makes a star burger. This place is visited by mostly locals, and seems to be very popular at luch and dinner time. I started eating there in 2002, I was stationed at Ft Riley and they were in Ogden. I left there in 2007, they had moved to Manhattan by then. We finally went through that area again in 2021. I used to love the white flour chicken tacos. I finally had a white flour fish taco in 2021, again in 2022 and again when we passed through in early June 2023. They are still as good as ever. I only wish they had free chips and salsa. If you are starving, order the Taylor Special. That is a lot of food for one person to eat. read more

My mom grew up going here when it was in Ogden and only bad 4 barstools, and then she brought us as kids in Ogden as well! I have ALWAYS ALWAYS loved this place. The food is like what you would get sitting in the Silva's kitchen (owners)!!!!! My favorite is the guacamole and the ranchero special! This is the worst Mexican food I have ever eaten in my entire life. They forgot the chips to my football stadium, out of a machine queso dip. The guacamole isn't really guacamole... it's like a spread that came of of a tube... the "chili cheese" burrito which was actually supposed to be a smothered burrito.. Drove from Topeka to try the pan fried Tacos. We each had a chicken and a shredded beef. The shells are more a puff pastry so not really much of a crunch. The size of the tacos were huge. The chicken was decent. The beef tasted like leftover roast beef. You do not get chips and salsa so I cannot comment. The service was very attentive which is why I'm giving 3 stars. Great service, good prices and some good Mexican food choices. Only downside is not having carne asada, the burgers are delicious and the fish tacos are tasty too. Maybe they can add Jarritos to there drink menu too. I love there to-go food and there's plenty of parking, cozy restaurant with authentic Latin art. This little place is pretty decent Mexican food. They also serve burgers and fries. The menu is small but that doesn't matter too much. My wife got the hillside special, which was very tasty. I got the soft corn tacos thinking I was going to get "real authentic Mexican food". I was a little disappointed the tortillas were fried, making them a little greasy. Also, the only meat options you have for your food is shredded beef, shredded chicken, or hamburger meat. No carnitas or asada, which for me negates the "authentic Mexican food" claim. That being said, the tacos were still good and I would return here again. I did not like the fact that you have to purchase chips and salsa, however all the food is pretty cheap, so it's really not a big deal. The horchata is some of the best I've ever had. The fried ice cream is also pretty good. I am from CA too, and yes I've been to Mexico as well. When I go for authentic Mexican tacos I expect soft corn tortillas that haven't been fried and have a super tasty meat piled high, along with cilantro and onions. Most of the little Mexican place I went to in CA have all the crazy stuff on the menu too (lengua, ceso, tripa). This place is a little Americanized. Grew up eating at this place when it was in Ogden. Great family restaurant! Hard to pick a favorite thing, but they have my favorite Mexican beer (Dos Equis). I love the chips and guacamole. I like the soft tacos, the hard flour tacos, the burritos, the tamales, the enchiladas and the hillside special (corn or flour both are good)!!! I did not like this restaurant in the least. Hillside Café was probably the worst restaurant that I have been to in the last 5 years (of all restaurant cuisine types). The food is cheap, which I usually like, but this was almost disgustingly cheap. For dinner, I ordered chips and queso with salsa (which was surprisingly expensive! Around $6. And for a Mexican restaurant?! Unbelievable). Not to mention the queso was disgusting it was nothing more than melted Velveeta cheese. The salsa was even gross. It was brown and didn't taste fresh NOT TO MENTION there was a strand of hair found in the salsa! I also had an enchilada and taco with beans and rice. I only have one word that can describe how my entrée tasted...BLAND. It was bland, bland, bland. The service was also pitiful. I was in a group of about twenty people and there was only one server, granted she most likely did the best she could. I WILL NOT be going back to this restaurant. I can cook better Mexican than Hillside can deliver and I can make better and actually fresh HAIRLESS salsa at home. Me and my family came to this place based what the yelper's had to say. First we got chips and queso, the chips were okay but the portion was small, the queso tasted like they opened a can of cheap nacho cheese from the store and heated it up, this was kinda expensive for $4.50. Me and my husband were saying the food couldn't be any worse then the chips and cheese, boy were we mistaken. My husband got three fish tacos, I got the beef enchilada, ground beef taco, beans and rice and my daughter got the hamburger. The beans were this brown liquid I don't know if you can even call them beans, my taco was soggy barely any meat, with funky government cheese. This food was not Mexican, this has got to be the worst Mexican food I have had ever, if you want some generic Mexican food please do your self a favor and go straight to taco bell. I came into the Hillside Cafe looking for a meal... what I got was an adventure. I sat at the turquoise colored chair at the turquoise colored table, and felt the moist beads of sweat upon my brow as my eyes danced across the pages of a menu filled with affordable dishes and delights.
