I have wanted to try this restaurant/bar since I caught a glimpse of their vibey patio from the Starbucks drive-thru line in the early spring. The way my head snapped around when I saw their cute patio & literally said out loud "what is that place?!" Decor: Gives a "moraccan nights" feel. Very laid back. Plush cushions to relax into. Perfect place to hang with some friends. Cocktails: Reasonably priced. You can buy one cocktail or order a groupie that serves 4-6. My favorite is the Daybed. It's light, crisp, and perfect for these hot summer days. Service: Outstanding. Our server made us feel right at home. She was quick to answer any questions and attentive to our table. Food: My group sampled a few po'zo's (think sandwich but folded inside pizza dough bread), a couscous special, and artichoke & arugula dip. Everything we tried was delicious. We had a hard time settling on our appetizer because every single one of their appetizers sound amazing. Overall: Great vibe. Tasty yet affordable cocktails. Delicious food. I am looking forward to sampling more from their menu in the near future!

Bootsie's is in its second week of being open. I added photos of the front entrance and patio on its grand opening day, but did not get a chance to eat there until tonight. I had a late meeting, and noticed it is open until 11 PM, so Eric R. and I got there around 9 PM and found it ti be packed, a great sign. The only available seating was at the bar, so we took it. There are purse hooks under the bar! Our server/bartender extraordinaire Erica took great care of us and gave us many suggestions. We started with waters (note they come without ice so ask for ice if you would like it). Eric R. ordered a banana bread old fashioned from the cocktail menu, and I got a glass of sparkling gresa (kind of like prosecco). We asked Erica for ideas, and she gave us some of her favorites plus popular items. We ordered the salsa verde shakshuka for an appetizer. Eric R. got the mortadella po'zo for his meal, and I got the roasted mushroom pizza. The shakshuka came in its own cast iron skillet, with toasted pizza dough wedges on the side. It was amazing. I love anything verde and enjoy shakshuka, and this is definitely a winning combination. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the salsa-egg-cheese combo was a flavor explosion. It was deliciously savory and piping hot. Between the app and my pizza, the roof of my mouth and my tongue were quite burnt (and I still feel it now). That being said, there is something magical about getting food fresh and hot out of the kitchen and the food stays hot after being served. Eric R..'s po'zo was a folded pizza dough (Erica suggested it is like a calzone that is not sealed with the bread texture of a gyro), and it came with a size of seasoned chips. He really enjoyed his dish and finished it entirely. The pizza was a generous size, served on a thin crust. It had a delicious mushroom flavor, plenty of cheese, and umami. Eric R. enjoyed a slice, and I managed two. I took three slices home to enjoy later. The ambiance is really nice, music loud and hip, and the crowd spanned all ages. We enjoyed the service and food, and will most definitely be back to try other dishes and the special brunch menu!

Stoped by Bootsie's for a solo weekday lunch. Decor is cute. Love the monkey wall paper. It was a very chic vibe. Interior is rather small with five large tables and seating at the bar. Three of those tables have only short stools for seating which would not be very comfortable for many past college age. They do have a patio area as well. Had great service from Ryan and trainee Bryce. Both were friendly and accommodating although I did have to flag them down for drink refills. The specialty is the po'zo a riff on an Italian sandwich. It was described as a less doughy and not fully closed calzone. The bread is kinda hard and not at all chewy. If you are a fan of the cracker like crust on a thin crust pizza, it's like that. I didn't care for it although the paprika honey chips (as in drizzled with honey) were pretty good albeit sticky. Seems like a good college date night place but not a place to go out of your way if you are a foodie.

Bootsies is a new place just outside of Aggieville. It has a very cool and colorful ambiance with plants and cool wall designs. I got the Mortadella Pizza and it tasted good and looked great. I wish the Pizza was a little bit more well-done, but overall a 7.1 pie. You definitely have to get the Fried Burrata it was amazing. Overall solid spot, 4 Stars.

It was a little late, but they were super busy with a large party in a private room. Once we got in and got seated, the delightful server took excellent care of us. My wife wasn't really hungry so she just nibbled off my plate. I started with a half of a wedge salad, which was delicious. They had a special on a piece of paper that night, which was a smoked pastrami, burnt ends sandwich with homemade rye bread. It was glorious! Very creative and fun. Since I don't love fries, they were kind enough to substitute deviled eggs as my side dish. I didn't know there would be an up charge for that but it's okay because they were delicious. We each had two drinks from the bar and they were made very well. They have a huge wine, seller and a great selection as one would expect by the name of the place. This restaurant has other locations in Lawrence and Wichita and I would eat at any of the three. Very cool menu and an amazing wine selection. This is really good food.

They had their wine menu on an iPad (wide selection + easily updated) that had everything from fancy bottles to affordable glasses. Don't skip the cheesecake if they have it either!

We're staying in the "Little Apple", Manhattan, Ks. Home of K-State University. Well also home of The Chef, which should be just as famous and endeared. The Chef is this gorgeous, chic, yet not so that it's kitschy diner in the heart of the main district of Manhattan. A classic diner, from the hospitality of the service staff, to the lunch counter with cute doodads for salt and pepper shakers. You've been here, because you've been home, or so it feels. Yes, be prepared to snuggle in for a teensy wait, because everyone loves home cooking, especially when someone else is doing the dishes afterwards. The portions are truly well beyong the prices. I ordered a CFS, smothered in sausage gravy. Was plated a Texas sized portion, thick steak, lightly crispily breaded, with a savory southern styled country gravy that honestly looked a bit intimidating in quantity, but I'm no fraidy cat. I came to conquer. Two perfectly running over medium eggs, whites done, yolks on the run, my style. A mountain of softly crunchy, better-than-homestyle fried potatoes, and a slice of thick cut wheat toast. This was a ton O' grub Bubba dub. Each component treated and seasoned well enough, to eat stand alone. Our meal partner kept checking on the family to see if we needed any more of that rich Arabica bean juice, or water, with the care of your fav Auntee from Mississippi, but right here, in the Land of Ahhhhs. She was winning us, even as much as The Chef that prepared the feast itself, and the food. Whew. The belly beat down was in effect, but I didn't tap out. I took that esophageal excitement with relish. Well not relish, with a sweet house made strawberry compote on toast. I wiped the plate clean. $15. You read that right... just $15. Oh I understand $15 is real money in this economy, but in relationship to the level of service, quality of service, epic portion sizes, and the finesse with which this small diner beat most anywhere we've been, and we share 39 years of worldwide travel as an old married couple, this was a bargain at $15, in the 90s. For sure back home in Texas this was honestly a $21 - $26 plate, and we're a beef producing state. Still with me? You're the real hero for hanging in here, and I truly appreciate you. If ever you want to taste Americas 250 years, in one sitting, visit The Chef in Manhattan, Ks. It's families feeding the community. No political spin, no feeling unwelcomed.
