    Raw "medium well" hamburger.
    FS O.

In all seriousness, the Tallgrass Tap House owner is very likely going to end up killing a young child due to food poisoning. On a couple visits in 2024, I noticed that hamburgers ordered at our table came out undercooked from what was ordered. In 2025 this has become even worse to the point of being dangerous. During a March 2025 visit, my son and I ordered burgers cooked medium-well. They both came out raw. We sent them back and waited quite a long time (while the rest of our party had to eat without us), and when the waitress brought new burgers out, she asked us to cut into the burgers in front of her to check that they were cooked. Apparently the restaurant doesn't own a thermometer??? In reality, the second burgers were still medium-rare, but it was late and everyone was tired of waiting, so we just took our chances and ate them. There was no apology or offer to take anything off the bill for asking us to eat in stages as we waited 20 minutes for the second attempt. On August 21, 2025, I stupidly gave Tallgrass a second chance and tried their burger again. The restaurant wasn't very busy so surely the kitchen would be able to cook a hamburger, right? Nope. This time I took the attached picture of my "medium-well" burger. I didn't have time to waste with telling the waitress as we had places to be and I simply couldn't wait half an hour for a replacement (undercooked) burger. I'm done with this place and truly concerned they're going to seriously poison someone. The problem is that a hamburger is easy to observe in terms of identifying dangerous kitchen practices, but if this is how they're serving ground beef, what other less easy-to-see problems are occurring such as cross-contamination with potential food allergens, or unclean preparation surfaces? Whoever owns this restaurant is going to get sued into bankruptcy when a customer dies

Customer service appears inconsistent, especially if you don't have a personal relationship with the waitress or bartender. I've visited during both peak and slow hours, and service could be improved. The food has good flavor, but it occasionally arrives cold.

Back again! Alas, no flatbreads but nice to see that the food menu and tap selection have changed it up a bit. Several of my beer faves from last visit are still there but graced with some new selections--including a nice British style bitter--that were up my alley. Food this time was a soft pretzel and the hot caprese sandwich. The pretzel was surprising and good since it wasn't overly salty and the dough tasted somewhat wheatier than a typical pretzel. The sandwich waa also decent with fresh Italian meats.

Tallgrass seems to be a go-to place on Saturdays in Manhattan, which makes total sense. The odd thing though is that I learned while trying to order food that Tallgrass limits their menu on weekends, which means all the things I was excited to try weren't available on Saturday nights. We also were given menus and then waited over an hour for our waitress to return and take our order. In the time we were waiting to order, another couple was sat next to us...ordered their food...finished their meal...and then were comped a portion of their bill due to the wait they had to get their food...all of this while we were still waiting to even place an order. We weren't asking for any of our bill to be comped, but it was odd that we didn't even get an apology for our wait time. The place was nice enough and the staff was very friendly, but the limited menu and the HUGE wait greatly affected our opinion of the place. My husband and I were in town for a wedding and decided to check this place out. We went up to the super cute rooftop and had Ashley as a server. We ended up ordering everything she recommended and our expectations were exceeded! Not exaggerating when I say some of the best food and THE best service I've ever had. Thank you Ashley for starting our vacation out amazing!

This place came as a recommendation on a trip to Manhattan, and it met expectations. The place is very modern with three levels and a patio seating area, and the ambiance was a fun vibe walking through. Sat on the rooftop and enjoyed the summer evening. My only suggestion there is to work on the tables which are very uneven and wobble badly. Caleb arrived at the table and provided some helpful suggestions for the meal. He did a great job taking care of the table during the evening as well as managing the many other tables on the roof. He recommend the Korean BBQ Wings as a starter, and while that would not have been my first choice, they were good and had a lot of flavor. I ordered the Tap Mac with the Pork Belly, and it was really good. Could have used just a little more cheese, but it also had a lot of flavor. My friend ordered the Salmon Burger and fries. The star of that dish was the Smoked Tomato Aioli which is ordered as the side sauce that comes with the sandwich. It was good on the fries and it was good on the sandwich. The hard cider we ordered was a great complement to the meal. Overall, this was a nice experience and a good meal while in Manhattan.

Went for lunch on a recommendation. The place was pretty quiet during the week for lunch. Was seated right away and asked for a gluten free menu. I asked if they had any gluten free beers they make and the answer was no which is fine but for anyone else curious. I ordered the Tallgrass burger with a GF bun and the Tap House salad side, no croutons. The burger was good but the gluten-free bun fell apart before I was halfway done with my burger. The side salad portion was huge and I appreciated the vinaigrette dressing option. Overall service was good and food was decent.

We took the wrong exit off the freeway looking for a fast food restaurant. When we realized that we were only 10 miles from Manhattan, we decided to drive on in and visit Manhattan. Since the original reason for exiting I-70 was lunch we opted to have lunch at the Tallgrass Tap House - right in the heart of Manhattan. My wife and I both ordered the Bahn Mi sandwiches with pork, pickled carrots, radishes and cumcumber on a baguette. I ordered mine WITH the jalapenos; my wife order her jalapenos on the side. We both also added a bowl of their Pale Ale Bisque - made with 3 kinds of cheese, bacon and fried onions. The soup was exceptionally good and the Bahn Mi sandwiches were the best we've found since ordering some a small deli in the Park Slope area of Brooklyn, NY. Service was exceptional. Our waiter was a young architectural student at Kansas State and he shared a lot of history about Manhattan and the varous "areas" of town. There are only a handful of restaurants that have earned a 5-star rating from me and this is one of them. Considering this was a purely accidential "find", I think we'll be taking the 10-mile detour off of I-70 on our next trip between Columbus and Denver.

I've been a longtime fan of Tallgrass as a Kansas brewery. I remember YEARS ago, probably back around 2012 when I discovered a now discontinued vanilla bean buffalo sweat, that literally got me hooked on stouts for a whole season. Essentially, Tallgrass has secured itself as a solid brewery on the plains, and I want to love their restaurant concept so bad, but it just doesn't quite live up to the mark in my opinion. I've been here a few times over the past decade as we have family in Manhattan and it's never a bad place to stop in for a bite and a beer. Firstly it's modern, clean, and despite no longer being new, it feels pretty nice inside. As a building, it meets what you'd expect. Oh, and it's massive. We were last here to celebrate my mother in law's birthday and it was so easy to get a table that could accommodate all of us, though we were I think in their overflow space. My only qualm with the overall atmosphere was that first of all it was COLD, like freezing cold inside, and the music was honestly so loud I could only hear the people seated immediately in front and beside me. So, that kind of dampered the experience for me. Now to the food. I had researched the menu before we arrived (as I often do) and I thought the bahn mi sounded great. I love a good bahn mi and I guess I should have set my expectations a bit lower since it's not a vietnamese restaurant, but it wasn't all that great. It was okay - not bad, but it was dry, and lacked some flavor. It would have benefited greatly from about twice the amount of sauce, and some sriracha offered on the side. It doesn't need to be authentic - you're at a brewery in KS, but it should be delicious. The only other note I have on food is that I upgraded to sweet potato fries and they charge FOUR dollars to simply upgrade your side. I cannot imagine they are in the back hand cutting sweet potatoes so to me, this feels outrageous. They were good fries, and I'd do it again, because I prefer them, but MHK is a much smaller town than KC and even in KC four dollars would be considered highway robbery for a fry upgrade. The one shining beacon for me was the waitress as I thought she really nailed it, was attentive, helpful, and handled a big crowd with ease. Will I be back? Yeah, I'm sure my travels to the little apple will bring me back, and I'll try something new, and hopefully be pleasantly surprised!

Maybe you're a skeptical beer drinker who wonders where it all comes from. Well at this place you get to see bins of hops and giant brew kegs, so it's all there and evident that this beer didn't come from your local supermarket. If that still isn't enough for you, take a look at what's on tap and you'll see names of beer that are unique to this single place on Earth. So whether you're by yourself or with a date, this is a good place to go and socialize with others or site quietly at a table. The staff is friendly and well educated (college students). They are fun to talk to and open to conversation. On the outside that you have twenty five of your best friends with you (or perhaps minions), this house has space for a large table for plotting and planning. Or if you happen to be meeting an enemy or someone who owes you money, consider the rooftop area with a great view of the street below.... You catch my drift?

Delicious food, great beer, great service. Awesome setup and fun atmosphere overall. Only downfall was the smaller portions and the higher prices. Overall 7.9/10 rating from me though!
