Just reading the pizza here. Not sure what the affiliation is between here and AJ's, but I've had AJ's before, and found it pretty average so thought I'd try Hi Lo. The service was superb! Bar staff kept my drinks on full. I definitely hit the roulette machine for my beer choice! The food was portioned gently and the drinks were ice cold. The atmosphere was awesome! I had the grilled cheese pizza slice that paired well with a Miller lite that hit the spot! I will definitely return when in Manhattan again. Nice little hipster bar on Moro Street. There's a Fernet-Branca tap, though I was told it's mostly for show, only used on occasion. The specialties are burgers and pizza. What's cool is that any of the pizza varieties are available by the slice, not just by the pie. I ordered a beer from the mystery machine: $3, you'll probably get a cheap domestic beer, maybe you'll get lucky and get a craft beer. I received a can of Genesee Light. (I didn't finish it.) The pizza was good. Kitchen messed up one of my slices, but they made up for it by giving me another one for free. That's good customer service. My experience was pretty average. Still, I have no regrets, and the bartender (Mark?) is a nice guy. read more

The Hi Lo was such a fun little hole in the wall! We were looking for somewhere to eat in Aggieville and asked a cashier at another business where the best place to eat would be--they suggested the Hi Lo. We were pleasantly surprised at their low prices and high quality of food! The burger had a nice crisp ring around the edges and the bun was lightly toasted. It was delicious. The fries were perfectly cooked, salted and piping hot! They were served in a fun bag with the Hi Lo logo on them which was a fun addition! The caprese salad sliders were good! I wasn't entirely sure how to eat them--they're served with a fork but the fork didn't want to cut into the lettuce. I tried my hands but the balsamic would drip everywhere. It was a complicated adventure. They were very tasteful nonetheless. I would highly recommend checking out the Hi Lo next time you're in Aggieville! read more

We were in town for a tennis tournament and stumbled upon this little place. I'm kind of confused about the pizza place vs the hi lo but I think they are really one in the same. I had a burger and fries and it was so good and only $7! My daughter had a side salad and slice of pizza which was huge. We shared the goat cheese breadsticks which was also huge but also very delicious. We took a lot of food back to the hotel and before tax and tip our bill was like $22. Very reasonable!!! read more

Not sure how or why this place is rated so high. I had one experience here and not sure I would come back. The wait staff want friendly and we didn't feel welcome. I ordered a mai tai and it definitely wasn't right. My boyfriend did their mystery beers and it was just a ploy to give him the cheapest beer possible. Although the bar lacked, I was excited to try pizza but yet again I was disappointed. The pizza sauce tasted like pasted sauce and the wait was too long. Hi Lo does not live up to the hype. The food is nothing special and there are far better bars in the Aggieville area. They offer a "mystery beer," which is really just a way for Hi Lo to serve low quality beer at a higher price. The dining/bar area is very small and gets crowded. Overall, I would not recommend Hi Lo - there are a lot better pizza places and bars around the Manhattan area I would go to before coming back here. read more

Hubby and I went here on a midweek (Wednesday) date at 5pm and sat in a small booth on the bar side of the restaurant. It was just picking up with the happy hour crowd. Our server was sweet and very attentive. Beer on tap was on special ($3) and I loved the grapefruit beer. The menu is small but the food is excellent. It seems like the kitchen/owner pays attention to detail. I had the chicken sandwich (normal style) and hubby had the "Nashville Hot" chicken sandwich. Just enough spice to taste the flavor. He got fries on the side for a 1.50 extra. Fries were okay-it would be great to see the burgers/sammies served with house cut fries. Sandwiches were small but super tasty. Chicken was breaded but not greasy. I also got a caesar salad and it seemed like the dressing was house-made and bonus: they topped it with anchovies! They also serve AJ's pizza. Yum. Prices are very reasonable. I like that this place makes me feel like I'm not in Manhattan. Can't forget to mention that they have a mystery beer vending machine.
