We're doing the Top 10 burgers in KS tour and although Vista isn't on the list, it's on the sane street as #9 on the list. We just ordered the vista burger with cheese combo. Drive through service was quick and friendly. This little burger impressed me so much that I rank it above two of the top ten (including the one on the same street). Kids had the ham and cheese and the corn dog and both enjoyed them. I got the butterfly shrimp and it was crispy and good. Service was pretty quick and priced reasonably. Loved the retro home town feel. Would visit again if jones-ing for an old school burger or the shrimp again! I did get a cup that was dented and lid wouldn't stay on and I saw a poor mom that must've got the same thing who picked hers up by the lid and spilled most of her drink at the station. So glad I continued to look and found the Vista Drive In. I travel a lot for work and prefer local fare over the national chains... Although the nationals are largely consistent and predictable, I enjoy the adventure and such. .. ON to it now. My first attempt was another local spot that was closer to my hotel.. That didnt' go well at all and I thought the evening would be another Manhattan strike-out.. Giveing Yelp one more try.. The Viista Drive In got my attention.. The place was pretty busy as there had been a pair of Basketball games at the college in town. The speed of the line for ordering was quick, the staff were jumping and through it all, friendly, hospitable and proficient... (This is a take away that I didn't get at my first strikout this evening.. sheesh.). I am not alergic to anything but I choose not to eat certain food items... This presents an interresting time at some establishments for several reasons.. NOT the case at the Vista. I asked the nice lady at the counter for my meal and she didn't bat an eye or give me any grief at all... What a great suprise. My order was prepared quickly, tasted fantastic and was totally pleasing. I particularly enjoy the smash style burgers with the crust on the patties. Brown Food Tastes good! For all of the previously stated reasons in as short a fashion as I choose to use, I will return to the Vista again and again so long as the place doesn't change a thing! Manhattan can certainly be proud of this family-owned burger icon - a local institution since 1964. The amazing original sign still beckons from the hill, its neon well-maintained and working! This is such a good burger joint! My first time hitting this place up. I'm not from around here and have seen this on google maps itself when looking for food, but I finally committed and gave it a go. Shame I didn't try this sooner. It's like a smash burger, minimal ingredients and good flavor. I even grabbed myself a corn dog and that was cooked well also I wish I was in town longer to have come back and tried some more options because the menu here is huge. This vintage spot is perched by itself on a hill with nothing surrounding it so I was hopeful that it was good. We tried the mozzarella sticks and the burger and fries. I was too full to try anything else, but was interested in the milkshakes. They include the tax in their prices which I really like. The Texasburger combo was $10. So double burger that was a good size, fries, and a drink which was a great price. Worth the money and a great taste. Not a lot added, just a great burger. The mozzarella sticks were yummy, but I probably wouldn't get again unless I was in a group. The combo itself was more than enough. Boy was I psyched to have lunch with my college friend from 54 years ago at our old haunt! VISTA!!! Was really happy they still have a pork tenderloin sandwich! And it was delicious!! However, the new pickle chips were a terrible disappointment all around!!! Too pricey for the serving size! And they were either way undercooked or they did not get the pickles dry enough before they battered them because it was mush between the crispy outside and the crunchy pickle in the middle! Takes you back to the 60's in both decor and food. The burgers are greasy with a side of crispy fries. Had the royal burger on wheat - decent would have liked it to be a bit cheesier. Also had the Vista original add bacon and cheese. Delightful and would recommend this one over the royal. Try the shrimp combo - very nice for a quick snack. I'm unabashedly a fan of Vista Drive In. I grew up on Vista burgers, loved getting a Cyclone as a treat and think that every hamburger basket special ought to include a tossed salad. I'm also ok with hamburgers that are misshapen because that means that they were handmade, not machine-formed, from good, fresh Kansas beef. And smaller portions at a higher price simply equals better quality food at a reasonable human portion. So it was a blast to take my husband there for lunch and share a bit of my history with him - and Vista didn't disappoint. Though I've lived in Texas long enough that I had to order my Vista burger without ketchup because, yuck. But leaving it off was no big deal and mustard made the burger even tastier! read more

I ordered online through eatstreet. In the options, I ordered the vistaburger, which comes with M, K,P, and O. In the options I added Mayo, Lettuce, and tomato. Add, means ADD. NOT Only. Not take off the other stuff. Add. But it had ONLY M,L,T. In the options, there's even the options to remove the mustard, ketchup, pickles or onion. I didn't check to remove any of those. The tomato was a single tiny little dot of a sliced tomato covering only a single bite of the burger. Beyond that the burger was bland. No flavor at all. The salad was just lettuce with a few slivers of red cabbage. It was obviously from one of those bags you can buy at the grocery store for 99 cents. One bag would make approximately 20 of their salads. They don't even bother adding anything to it, like tomatoes, or cucumbers, or any type of salad stuff. It's not a salad. It's chopped lettuce.And wilted at that. The onion rings were okay, but there were only 4 of them in the bag. 1 decent sized one and 3 tiny ones. Vista really seems to be set on the idea of "If we cut this out, we can save 10 cents" without taking into consideration that then no one really wants it either. For this low quality the prices aren't cheap in exchange. You can get better quality food at many other places in town for cheaper. For the same price as Vista you can find places that have MUCH better food. So you can't excuse eating there despite the low quality with "At least I saved some money". Vista is an old staple of Manhattan, but I will place bets that it will be out of business no later than 10 years. read more

I've been here about 8 or 9 times and they're usually good. Today they blew it. Big guy at counter taking my order had to consult with no less than two higher-ups to get permission to sell me a hot dog. Apparently they only have hot dog combo on kids menu. I ended up just ordering everything separately. Am I really the first adult who has ordered a hot dog at this greasy fast food joint? Before I had time to tell him what I wanted on it (he never asked) he punched in my order. I asked him what came on it, he said,"nothing" in a tone like I was a moron. I said I wanted pickles and onions and I swear he was about to punch me. With plenty of sighing and grunting he re-entered my order. The end result of all this nonsense wasn't much of a surprise. The worst hot dog I ever had. Check out the included photo. Someone is getting a bun and a half while I got half a bun. One pet peeve of mine is joints that can't be bothered to have pickles cut properly for dogs and burgers. I have enough room in my fridge at home for a jar of both spears and round cut (or I just slice them myself). Why can't a restaurant that sells burgers and dogs have pickles that fit the item? At least this isn't as bad as some places I've seen that put spears on a burger. But the worst part of the whole thing was the old grease they used to fry the onion rings. Their rings are usually my favorite item here, but these tasted and smelled like old fish. The oil in the fryer must have been very, very old. I had high expectations for this burger joint, and unfortunately was a little disappointed. I've tried the vista burger and the Texas burger both with fries. Nothing special about the burgers, most burger joints I've been to had something that stood out about them but this one did not. The burger itself was tasted bland. Then I've tried ordering a butterscotch milkshake twice, but received a vanilla milkshake instead both times. If they were out of butterscotch syrup or ice cream, they did not communicate that with me. So overall, I gave this place a 3/5, since they are not horrible but are not the best. read more

Vista has been a Manhattan staple for 48 or so years. I've been eating here for as long as I've been alive. For the most part you can't go wrong if you order a Vista burger with bacon and cheese. I would say these are indeed the best burgers in town. The portions in my opinion are on the small side considering the price you pay. The fries aren't great, but onion rings are usually very good. They also have very good chocolate shakes. The only thing I do not like is their breakfast. I have stopped in several times for breakfast and just can't get used to any of it. They should stick to lunch and dinner. On the customer service side I've noticed since Brad (owner) has officially stepped away from day to day managing things have gone downhill slightly. I've still seen Brad there during lunches and other times, but he's not there as much. The "big guy" that somebody else referenced in their review was/is horrible at customer service and he frustrates me everytime I go there. I haven't seen him around lately so hopefully they got rid of him. He does seem like the type that would reach through the window and take a swing at you simply for asking for more ketchup. We went here tonight after a long absence from our last visit that was poor, but we were pleasantly surprised by how GREAT the burgers have become; I mean, they were good before but WOW - on par with Five Guys and Freddy's. The fries were fresh and crispy and came with salt on the side, awesome! The one issue we had was my wife's Pepsi tasted way too sweet and was almost straight syrup. It was basically wasted. Vista burgers is a nice fast place to get some food it is a little expensive but very good. The burgers are juicy and have tender fresh vegetables. The chicken tenders are nice and crunchy and come with amazing dipping sauce (I tried both the gravy and the honey mustard). I ordered a 6 piece and the person working was kind enough to realize that one was small and included an extra. Unfortunately the fries were not my favorite, they were slightly undercooked which made them starchy and bland. other than that it was a delicious meal. read more
