She was patient (i had lots of questions) and her answers to my questions were very thorough. I greatly appreciate how she took the time to make sure I felt at ease since the system was quite complicated. She walked me through the systems as well and took the time to show me what I needed to know and what system was linked to which processes for the pool and the spa. She did all of this in under an hour. Her report was very detailed with great pictures. They were recommended to us through our home inspector as he did not cover pools. I could not say enough great things about Brittany, Laura and the company. Incredibly trustworthy and professional. We spent over a year trying to find a fair priced, communicative, and quality contractor who was even available to do the renovation work. We had ridiculously high quotes, quotes not itemized, blatant gouging, and folks who would not even return phone calls. Then we found Brian and Northstar Pools. From the first moments, I knew this was not your average NJ contractor. He was extremely polite, knowledgeable, humble - and clearly held to their mantra of providing only caring and customer-focused service - but he really knows his stuff on top of that! His prices were fair and enumerated in detail, so I knew exactly what I was getting. But it took a couple of months while I did more research - and during that time he was ever so patient, answered all my questions, and helped me arrive at a plan that worked. Once work started, he and his crew worked very hard and efficiently to tackle this beast of a project. As I was juggling the logistics of the other related landscaping and electrical work (and not to mention the weather), Brian was super accommodating and patient in coordinating all the work with me. When the inevitable need for plan changes occurred - Brian took everything in stride to make sure I was satisfied. The DIYer and engineer in me forced me to ask a LOT of questions as work progressed (and I mean a LOT). Brian answered every single one of them patiently and professionally - even the stupid ones. His craftsmanship and attention to detail were clearly evident. He even crawled ten feet under the new liner he just installed to remove a few pebbles that had found their way underneath - on a nice hot August day no less. We hired the company to "open our pool".....$1000 bucks (which is ridiculous)....and they leave a note that says: "Will have to come back to finish the vac, backwash, and balance the chemicals *Pool was a bit murky, so we left the system running 25/ in service until we return" Im not sure, but sounds to me as though they didn't finish the job and they are coming back, right? NO!!!!!! I called to ask when and they said they would send someone out for and additional $500 bucks...and stupid me, I agree!!!!! because Im the type of sucker that a business like this relies on taking advantage of. So thats the end, right? NO!!!!!!! They don't show up and when I call again, its my fault!!! So now we are two weeks and about $1500 bucks into getting this pool open and still no end in sight. But is that the end? NO!!!!!!! We were charged nearly $1000 bucks to replace 15 small tiles!!! Why? IDK....perhaps they flew artisans in from Italy. $2500 bucks....15 small tiles.....and a bowl of water I can not swim in.....do yourself a favor.....find someone that has some pride in their business, some sense of value for the customer, and frankly someone that will be around next year.......because these guys will go under and deserve it. Instead, he insisted on putting it in a different spot, assuring me that he had leveled the ground and that it would be fine. The pool looked okay at first, but it only lasted one season. Last year, the liner ripped, and I initially thought it was my fault. This year, I had another pool professional come inspect it, and they immediately pointed out that the original installation was done very poorly. They found that there were tree roots underneath the pool that had continued to grow, causing the ground to become uneven and the pool to lose its level. I was also told that the area should never have been used in the first place because of the roots. I trusted his judgment when he assured me the spot was properly leveled, but it turns out that wasn't the case. While the pool may have looked fine initially, the poor placement and installation ended up costing me a damaged liner and additional repair expenses just a year later. I would not recommend this service based on my experience. If I could give a 0 star;I would.

I did my research and interviewed a few pool builders (there aren't many options in NYC), and I confidently went with Pete & Pat. What stood out immediately was how sincere and honest they were with their advice about my backyard. Initially, I had a lot of bells and whistles in mind--which, honestly, would have meant more money for them. Instead, Gus Pools actually talked me out of several things. They explained that some of them really weren't necessary, but told me that if I insisted, they would still do them. Thankfully, I took their advice because the pool came out amazing, and I ultimately realized I didn't need any of that extra stuff. Once we finalized the plans, the rest was a breeze. Everything was done on schedule, and they were honestly no bother at all. They went straight to the backyard and rarely needed anything from us. One thing I really appreciated was how well they coordinated with Middle Village Construction and Breezy Electric. Bonnie was always happy (and patient!) to take our calls (sometimes there were many ) and give us updates on the project. To be transparent, Gus Pools recommended Middle Village Construction, and their quote for the pavers was comparable to the other contractors I spoke with, so I went with their recommendation. It ended up being a great decision because everyone was able to coordinate seamlessly. I also used my own electrician, Breezy Electric, and Gus Pools were just as professional when he had questions about the pool construction, lighting, and grounding. That kind of communication between contractors made the entire project so much easier. All in all, if you're contemplating making a major investment in a pool, just go with these guys. You won't be disappointed. And now, two years later, I can say that the service has been just as good. They continue to service my pool, including opening and closing it, and they've helped with any issues or mishaps along the way. They keep records of your warranties, equipment, hardware, etc., which makes things much easier down the road. At one point, I had an issue with one of the pumps and Bonnie promptly set up service. Pat came by and fixed it at no charge. That says a lot about the kind of company they are. For anyone complaining that they don't service pools they didn't build, take it from someone who had more than 10 different people come out to look at and potentially renovate my old pool. It's difficult to take over someone else's build, know exactly how everything was installed, and then be expected to stand behind a warranty. I completely understand why they operate the way they do. Two years later, I'm still extremely happy with my decision to go with Gus Pools. Highly recommended.
