The Courtyard Cafe is located inside The Shops at Norcross Place (downstairs level) in North Conway Village, eat-in, takeout, or free delivery. The menu offerings include lighter fare including sandwiches/wraps, vegetarian sandwiches, salads, homemade soups, cookies, brownies, cold beverages from the cooler, and frozen lemonade (seasonal). Daily specials are posted which may include homemade pizza slices, hardshell tacos, paninis, and tuna melts (w/ tomato & sprouts). The prices are very reasonable, most items are priced under $6. This cafe is order & pay at the register. The food is made fresh to order and served to your table. The atmosphere is peaceful and very relaxed in here. The cozy dining area is shaped sort of like the southern tip of the "State of Nevada" which is dimly lit with small lamps & holiday string lights, tables along the walls, a mini waterfall garden and seating varies, from plastic patio chairs to traditional classic dining room chairs. The walls are painted fuschia with wallpaper & green trim. We stopped in here for lunch after our second day of skiing. My friend had the Monte Cristo ($4.75) which had turkey, ham & Swiss cheese, & honey mustard dressing on grilled wheat bread, served with apple slices. I had the 1/2 & 1/2 Combo ($5.25), a half Turkey Special Sandwich and a small bowl of Cream of Potato Soup & saltine crackers. The Turkey Special was pretty good, which had roast turkey breast, stuffing, cranberry sauce, lettuce, & mayo on soft oatmeal bread. The Cream of Potato soup was rich & filling with chunks of potatoes and bacon in a thick and creamy cheddar broth. The staff came out of the kitchen to ask how the food was. Overall the food was simple and fresh, and tasted pretty good. Including 2 cans of Diet Coke, the total for lunch for 2 was $12, a great value for this touristy area. We ate lunch here on a Saturday afternoon after spotting their sandwich board sign on the main street. It took us a bit to find it as there didn't appear to be any directional signs to lead you to the little restaurant. It's in the back and down the stairs. It's a little dark inside, and neat clean and tidy. The decor is pretty dated and a little on the feminine side. The staff checked on us and others a couple times to see how things were and to see if we needed anything else - nice touch for a place where you order and pay at the counter. We ordered sandwiches - I had the Monte Cristo which came with 3 small apple slices and my husband ordered the Turkey Reuben on Rye, also with 3 small apple slices. Our food came out pretty quickly, freshly made to order. I love Monte Cristo sandwiches, and this one was the first I've had made with honey mustard dressing. It just didn't seem to go with it, in my opinion, and I'm glad I asked for it on the side. The sandwich itself was average, although I think it should be named something other than a Monte Cristo. My husband's sandwich was pretty good. And it turned out the apple slices were actually a nice accompaniment to the sandwiches, even though you only get three and they're very small and thin. We stumbled upon this place after seeing the sandwich board on the sidewalk advertising their specials and frozen lemonade. We were pretty warm and hungry and decided to give this a try. We went downstairs to the place and saw two people waiting at the counter. The cafe itself has very low-ceilings and seems dank and old. The decor can be seen in photos from another reviewer, but age the photos about 10 years and that's where we are today. We learned from the couple at the counter that you order at the counter. They'd been waiting for a while, so we looked at the menu and figured out what we wanted. Daughter wanted a turkey sandwich with lettuce and 1000 island dressing and I thought the thanksgiving sandwich with mandarin orange stuffing sounded really good. The prices were $5 / sandwich. Finally, after about another 5 minutes, the couple in front of us placed their order. Then a few minutes later we placed ours. We also got a frozen mixed berry lemonade. We found seats and the tables needed to be cleaned off, but no one around and no napkins in site so we waited until our meals came out and made do. The photo of the sandwich shown in another review was pretty right, except our apple slices were thinner and a little less fresh looking. The turkey, which I thought would be the homemade kind was really processed deli meat. The bread tasted like it was made by a real bakery and the stuffing and 1000 island dressing did appear to be homemade. The lemonade had a bitterness to it as well. It was really like Dells, pits, rind and all. I could see people liking it because of the price and if they got it delivered they wouldn't have to see how dingy the restaurant really is. read more

Avoid this place. Handwritten notecard specials should have tipped us off, but they had open outdoor tables so we went for it (clue #2 that it was a bad idea). We ended up waiting 30 minutes for a soggy BLT and subpar wrap. You can find a lot better in North Conway. read more

Mediocre food at best. Terrible customer service. I would order a salad with shredded chicken every Friday, one day I called to order and was told it'd be 45 mins for a take out SALAD. Until then I'd never waited more than 10 mins. I offered to come in to order, was told it would be 45 minutes. When I asked why, I was rudely informed "because there are ten orders in front of you!" when I explained I was curious because I go there all the time and it's never taken so long, the guy goes "WHO is this?!" I replied with "who am I speaking to?" and he said "you're not speaking to bob any more!" and hung up on me. Bob is the owner, and doesn't appreciate local loyalty apparently. I do not go here as a rule, I'll go somewhere else on my lunch break... somewhere where they appreciate the business and have more to offer than a shitty grilled cheese or pb&j. read more

I went here on a whim with my wife and kids and it was excellent! The staff was really nice and it was a great place to go with kids. Their kids meal comes with apple slices and a snack so a great balance. I had a tossed salad with homemade dressing and it was perfect. Best ice tea in North Conway. This is the real thing, made of actual tea leaves, and unsweetened. The lemon and sugar are optional. Also, the food was excellent. Note, this is a little casual dive in a struggling shopping plaza basement, with kitschy-cheap decor: it doesn't look like the food is going to be excellent. But it is. Right now, they're having a special salad of baby spinach, chicken with tarragon, strawberries, sunflower seeds, and poppy seed vinaigrette: it is so fabulous, I had it THREE times this week. Fresh, savory, complexly harmonious flavors and satisfying mouth-feel. It's the kind of inventive and thoughtful culinary composition I expect from expensive gourmet places. I'm not minding paying a third the price and being saved the pretention. The monte cristo panini is also recommended. The value for quality is extraordinary; I suppose if you're going to stay in business in a town full of restaurants, in a space with no frontage, hard to find, and no windows, you'd better do everything perfectly. They seem to be making that business plan work. Also, a special call out to all the staff, for their really gracious courtesy. We were served by four different people across our four visits there, and each was consummately polite. We were especially impressed that when we arrived to find a huge crush due to a recent bus tour arriving, the gentleman at the counter apologized and warned us that there would be a considerable wait for our food, in case we were in a rush and would prefer to go somewhere else. It's such a little thing, but I can't think of the last time someone at a restaurant did anything like that. We decided to wait the rush out, and were glad to do so. I'm sad I won't get to take the Courtyard Cafe back home at the end of my vacation! For those of you trying to find this hidden gem, there's a door way right on Main Street (White Mountain Highway). Find the light where Kearsarge Rd. meets Main Street. There's an entrance to the lower level of "The Shops at Norcross Place" right on Main Street, across from Kearsarge Rd. Look for the blue awning (to the right of Olympia Sports, which also does not come up correctly on either Google Maps or Yahoo Maps), and they usually have a little sandwich board with the daily specials, out on the sidewalk. There are definitely better places around. The prices are good, but you also get what you pay for. The place was probably cleaner when it was opened. It's dingy and outdated. Could really use some updates. Also I don't think the staff realize that they can be heard behind there make shift wall.... read more

I brought my family here over Memorial Day weekend, the food was great. They were able to cater to my daughters allergies. From the minute my wife and girls walked in it was obvious this was a family run business. The waiter was a young teenage boy and he was trying hard to make sure we were ok. They have a wishing well pond for the kids to throw money in for the local shelter. The panini sandwich was amazing. The food was fresh and enough for the price. I think we ate for under 25.00 for a family of 5. I own a second home in the area and will make this another stop on our weekends read more
