This place was a cute little find. It was under the building and we grabbed some pastries and some coffee. It was okay. The ambiance was cute. We came in through the front and there was a store I think that wasn't open. The lady that was there seemed like a one man show. But she was so nice and helped us select some treats. People need to discover this little gem. As a local i have been to all the breakfast places around and never really found a favorite until Kathy and I went Underground! The prices were about in line with all the other places. But this also has a bakery and a cute little gift shop. You can kill 3 or 4 birds with one stone here as the saying goes. Zayden was the server and she was amazing. We had A LOT of food because we wanted to put this place to the test as professional breakfast eaters. The food tasted great, not the typical blah breakfast. I think you could literally taste the love. Lol...The homemade toast and Biscuits are serious and seriously good. We just wish the toast was browned up more. The omelet was terrific, the home fries really good, my scrambled eggs and bacon perfect and the 2 egg breakfast sandwich very good along with a pitcher of water that Zayden brought to me without me asking, maybe she knew i was part fish! Heck, even the OJ was great, but i KNOW Nancy didn't make that! Had a cake ball that was moist and yummy. Will review the bakery items at some point on an empty stomach. Nancy and Zayden were very gracious to us and we appreciated that. Think we have finally found a valley breakfast favorite. Word needs to get out though, this place could be a huge hit if it was seriously marketed, but that only comes at the expense of time and money. We swung in here for a quick breakfast and really enjoyed it! The staff was so helpful and the food was very, very good. We had the eggs Benedict, a breakfast sandwich on a biscuit (biscuit made in-house, YUM) and French toast. All were excellent. We just poked our heads in due to this cafe's unique location. We were immediately greeted and warmly welcomed by staff. With no specific plan to purchase anything we ended up getting various lattes. I had a simple "iced latte" that exceeded my expectations. Admittedly, I am new to the world of iced lattes. I have generally found them (iced lattes) to be coffee with a lot of milk. However, this one stood out among the rest. One particularly nice touch was it had coffee ice cubes. Never heard of or thought of such a thing. Struck me as a nice touch. I successfully resisted the urge to purchase any one of the numerous delicious looking treats. I was really challenged by one called the "funny bone". Still regret not buying one. I really enjoyed the location, we had to follow the signs through an antique store to, what I would describe as a nook. It is in the basement and I could imagine is a little challenging to find. They both tasted like they were made with love. The prices were good. And what I loved is that you didn't feel like you were in the middle of one of those tourist traps further uptown. This is a smaller cafe with a store that has some very cool items! The staff is incredibly nice. Not only did our waitress check on us but all staff members as they passed by checked on us. We ordered the buttermilk pancakes & the southwestern wrap. All of it was delicious. This was just perfect place for us to grab a quick lunch. The entrance is tucked away down the steps on the side of building. They offer soup, sandwiches and breakfast too. All house-made. And their cakes looked divine. Very tempting. The tomato soup had chunks of tomato. Soup came with fresh mini loaf of bread which was really good. also had a grilled turkey cheese and apple sandwich that was great. I got a chai tea to go and was disappointed in that as it did have milk or sugar in it but I didn't know that until we were a few miles away. Lol. I should have looked. My now husband and I got married in Jackson over the weekend, and had a last minute dilemma where we needed to find someone else to make our cake last minute. A week before the wedding we called to place our order, and let me tell you, everything happens for a reason because we were meant to have Underground Bakery make our cake!! We got a mocha cake with mocha buttercream, and it was one of the most delectable things I have ever eaten in my life. The customer service was PHENOMENAL, and I'm already dying to get back to North Conway to sample some more of her delicious goodies!! There's a reason this place is called Underground - it's under the Sea Dog! Super cute little store at the bottom of the stairs and then to the left is the bakery. We didn't try any of the pastries but they looked amazing - especially their takes on the classics like Ding Dongs and Funny Bones. We both ordered their mac and cheese than comes with grilled kielbasa. It was absolutely delicious and came with fresh warm bread. I wish I had taken a picture of everything. I also got a homemade strawberry lemonade that was great as well. The people working there were so personable and friendly! We joked with them and I felt like I was in someone's home. The sandwiches were mediocre and the dessert was disappointing. We come to Conway annually and always look for new places. Today we found this little secret. I say secret because if you aren't looking you won't find it. I say start looking!! Nancy the owner is super pleasant. The place is small and cozy and also home to a sweet gift shop. We didn't try her baked goods but they looked fabulous. We went for breakfast. My husband opted for the basic eggs potatoes and toast. The toast was sweet and crispy made from fresh made breads. Me, I had the French toast with a blueberry compote with whipped cream. The blueberry compote wasn't on the menu but be sure to ask because she made it fresh on the spot. Nancy has a true love of baking and it was reflected in our food. Hidden gem in the Valley! Nanci, the owner and baker of all delicious goods that come out of here, is so pleasant to work with and passionate about what she does. We are up north quite often and have stopped in a few times just for coffee (she brewed us a fresh pot even though she was almost closed) and a pastry but have also preordered a dessert arrangement for our rehearsal dinner. Had an assortment of lemon squares, raspberry bars, cupcakes and cake balls- ALL phenomenal! Probably ate too many cake balls for my own good. Feedback from our guests was all positive. Our orders were; steak sandwiches on fresh, made-in-house rolls, spaghetti with Bolognese sauce. Two of the kids had corn chowder ("best ever" said my grand daughter). This is a hidden gem! The woman who greeted us, who I assumed to be the owner, was so lovely. She immediately greeted us with a smile, was accommodating and very friendly. The food was so good! We got the bacon egg and cheese on an English muffin and you could tell that everything was fresh and homemade. Ok, you have to find, and then try, this place. We drove by for a month wondering where it was! It's right next to entrance for main restaurant in this area, but subtle. Al homemade goods - baked goods are great - especially the chocolate coated cake balls and ho-ho's. We now no longer come to town without picking up one or both. Sandwiches are fresh and delicious - we've tried several different options and learned to trust the owners and workers recommendations. This is the North Conway's best kept secret! It truly is an experience to come here, and the owner, Nanci, is just an angel. We came across the bakery which is quaintly located adjacent to her antique shop next to Sea Dog Brewing, in a desperate search to find a baker for our wedding just four short months out. We were cheerfully greeted by Nanci, who was thrilled to host an impromptu tasting and discuss options for catering our wedding desserts. She has such a pleasant, can-do attitude and truly cares not only about her bakery, but about her clients. Not only does she singlehandedly make what are undeniably the best baked goods in the area, she's more than reasonable and doesn't try to screw anybody over by inflating prices based on the term "wedding" (which is really way too common in the wedding industry). Every request we made, even if it wasn't something she had prior experience baking, she was willing to try out - and subsequently NAILED it! For our wedding, we requested 8 different kinds of cupcakes flavors, a small strawberry shortcake, donuts, meringue kisses, and caramels. Every single thing was so delicious we couldn't stop eating them - even when we were so full! She is so incredibly talented. Underground Gem. Great find! Driving by looking for a real bakery in North Conway while on vacation. Saw and the hidden sign (need more exposure) and those get we would give it a try. So glad we did - the bakery is literally downstairs in a small shopping plaza on 1976 White Mountain Highway North Conway (603)733-4758. Very clean and smelled heavenly. We ordered the Apple Danish, Eclairs, Apple Muffin and strawberry & cream cheese scones. Everything was homemade and just melted in your mouth. My favorite was the scones that had just come out of the oven. The owner placed all the items in neatly packaged boxes with little ice packs for the to-go eclairs. That will be our first & last stop whenever we go to North Conway. Thank you for being a true bakery! read more

Coming from Boston, the portions of these pastries compared to the size is what first gets you hooked. Then they had this girl working the front who was very professional and helpful who asked what I can only assume was the owner/ boss for a special request for our young son, she very much obliged. But then the real reason I have this place a 5 star review, after 3 hours in the freezing cold December weather in the car, the pastries were literally knock your socks off good. Case in point, typically you'll find that a homemade ring ding will either be to rich or bitter, my problem? I didn't get a dozen. The entrance is just to the right of the Sea Dog Brewing Company. It is a cute, cozy, warm place hiding downstairs under the Red Barn Shopping Center through the Red Barn Furniture Outlet, with its stone walls, cafe tables and gas fireplace. My sister and I stumbled upon this tasty place recently. It was the perfect end-of-day stop. So many offerings to choose from; individual cheesecakes, eclairs, cinnamon rolls, cookies, cakes, mini cakes, whoopie pies . . . oh my! Very delicious, fresh ground and freshly brewed coffee and a warm apple turnover with fresh whipped cream for me and a tea and chocolate cake with chocolate mouse filling for my sister. Oh my! After we ordered, our drinks and dessert were served to us on real plates with real utensils! Everything is made from scratch and you can tell! The owner, Nancy told me she will be offering breakfast and lunch soon and she's working to get her liquor license to bring in the after dinner crowd for that special dessert to top off the night. I was up in Madison for the new year and craved some cheesecake. I searched the surrounding area for a bakery and found The Underground Bakery. I called to make sure they were open and to confirm they had cheesecake. The woman on the phone who I assume was the owner was so pleasant and helpful. 15 minutes later I pulled up to the bakery and she had my cheesecakes ready to go. I originally ordered 2 small cheesecakes but after seeing what they looked like, I doubled my order. Once again the woman helping me was sweet and professional. The bakery is on the lower level of the building but easy to get to from the back parking lot. Nonetheless, took the cheesecakes home and enjoyed them with some family and friends on New Year's Eve. I must say these cheesecakes were delicious and very fresh! They're about 4 inches in diameter and cost about $8 each but well well worth the $8! We got got 4 cheesecakes, traditional strawberry, turtle, caramel apple, and chocolate cheesecakes. Again delicious and worth a try. I'm sad we didn't get any other goodies from here to try but there will be a next time! We'll definitely stop in the next time we're in town! read more
