This was my first time here in a very long time. I was super disappointed with the service. My wife and I were seated quickly then pretty much forgotten about. Noonre checked on my coffee, our waitress was no where to be found, and a few people standing around not doing much of anything. While my wife and I were being ignored, a worker brought in her granddaughter to meet staff. As I'm sitting there, grandma goes in the back and brings her out some biscuits and gravy! The same thing i ordered, and she's choking down & I haven't even got a refill on my coffee! Also, the food was bland and not worth it. I would never recommend this place. Ps.. I had to walk over to the coffee and refill it myself! Forget this place. read more

Went there last week with 3 friends for breakfast, seated in rear the service poor, long wait for our orders when the food arrived it was cold, their prices a little too high..will not be back read more

Driving up here from silicon valley to go to Lake shasta, this was the first place we saw after pulling into the plaza, and I looked at the yelp rating and saw it was low but decided to go with it anyway....bad mistake. It was old and outdated and service was slow as well. Anyway I ordered the hamburger, my son ordered the chili burger and my husband ordered the chicken fried steak with breakfast. The beef patties had no flavor whatsoever and the beef tasted weird or odd like it was bad, both my son and I didn't eat the burgers just fries. I couldn't identify what kind of meat the fried steak was neither, the texture was funny and we didn't like it, it was deep fried and lathered in white gravy. Food was horrible and prices were 9.99 and more. After we left, we drove around and noticed there were tons of other familiar chain places to eat which is what we should have done. Yuck, should have trusted the yelp ratings read more

The sign outside says "Voted Best Breakfast" in Redding or words to that effect and that's the main reason why we decided to give it a try. They place looked a little tired, the decor was less than charming, and most of the clientele looked to be ancient. We were seated in a corner in a makeshift booth that resembled a sort of bullpen. The waitress was ok but she didn't seem to be particularly enthusiastic in any way. Maybe she was used to waiting on regulars? We ordered omlettes and hash browns; my mom ordered bacon and eggs over hard. The food took a little while but when it came it was pretty disappointing. The omlettes were so-so, the hash browns were greasy and the food had a less than fresh quality to it. It was also pricey for what they give you. The toast is bread baked on the premises, but it was burnt dry and dense. We hardly touched it. I paid the check at the cash register and got a firsthand look at the cinnamon rolls alluded to by more favorable reviews. They looked big and heavy, and they were being frosted by the cashier in between handling money. That was a little unsettling. Needless to say we won't be coming back here. Our vote would be for another place to eat breakfast, not this one! read more

First time here. Place is nice and clean little expensive. Friendly service. I ordered chicken fried steak and it was a huge portion but it was bland and no taste. Denny's is a lot better. read more

We LOVE The Country Kitchen. Our family has been going there for years. It always feels like home. They welcome us by name and are always happy to seat us wherever we prefer. The food has always been consistently yummy. I love the house made soups and the breads and pastries are to die for! I appreciate that the food isn't processed and is made from scratch each day. The specials are always fun and delicious, had pumpkin pie pancakes just the other day with a cream cheese drizzle, fantastic! The owner is lovely and the staff is friendly and efficient. I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a taste of home. read more

This place has fast friendly service with excellent food! I had the eggs Benedict and my sister had the blueberry pancakes. We left full and happy!!! They make their own bread and make a mean cinnamon roll!! read more

What a great restaurant with top notch, courteous and friendly employees, especially the waitresses, Miranda and Brooke, who are welcoming the moment you enter the door. They always seem to enjoy their job and take the extra time to make you feel at home, going out of there way to make sure you have an exceptional dining experience. We look forward to eating there on a regular basis. Time and time again, the variety of meals are always consistently delicious with the home cooked flavor. Kudos to everyone at Country Kitchen. You are the best! read more

Terrific eggs Florentine. Amazing soups. And the staff treats everyone like family. It's the best down home cooking in the north state

Tried to have a nice family breakfast this morning, and right off the bat started going down hill at this place. We used to go here in the past and have always had great service and awesome food. However today was a different story. We waited for over an hour to have our waitress continue to tell us just another minute, just another minute, etc. to be sitting so long to the point it's lunch time now. The entire place has cleared out and we're still here waiting. Finally decided to say something. The manager informs us a cook is out sick and the 2 cooks they have aren't their best and had to remove one cook because he continued to mess up. So I asked how longer for our food she said she wasn't sure. I offered to pay for our drinks and informed her we were leaving that that was ridiculous. I'm sorry don't have your staff sit there and continue to tell your guests just a minute and do nothing about it. Won't be going back again!!!! read more

We came here on a Saturday afternoon for a late brunch. I'm not much of a breakfast food person, so I was a little weary about coming here. The waitress seemed nice and attentive. I ordered the hot pastrami sandwich (their own baked bread, pastrami, cole slaw and the sauce) with the Mediterranean potato salad which was both suggested by the waitress. The Mediterranean potato salad I could do without, but the sandwich was absolutely amazing. Loved every bite of it. So anyone trying this place out, I would definitely suggest the hot pastrami sandwich. :) read more

A neighbor told us this was the best breakfast in Reddng, so we tried it this week. The biscuits are amazing! Great service and food! We'll be back soon!!! read more

The food used to be amazing and the service top notch. Not any longer. Last two times I've been there we had horrible service and sub par food. First off, they need to learn that service is what makes or breaks your business. At this place, the hostess doesn't know how to make a waiting list, waitresses will argue with you about whether the cook can make your food omitting oil/butter even if you say "he does it for me all the time" AND food took an hour to get to us on a Wednesday, late morning with a normal amount of business. When it finally arrived, mine was made wrong and my nephew was missing a sausage link. Waitress said she lost it on way to table...I noticed she failed to mention it first. Add to that the lack of consistency in food product... Good luck on ordering a cappucino/espresso, etc. They only make lattes, served in rootbeer mugs, despite what you ordered. Biscuits were cold and flavorless last visit. Bacon was cold and not good quality. Real bummer since a year ago I would have rated this place a 5. read more

The front says best breakfast in town but I hardly doubt it. The food was mediocre and the service was slow.

Food was fair, unsanitary service. We haven't been to Country Kitchen in years (wasn't very good back then) so thought we would try it again. Service was slow, food bland to fair, but the worst thing was I wanted a refill on my ice tea. The waitress took my glass to the back (the glass was empty except for ice) I had already put my Splenda in the glass and I had an extra long straw in the glass. The waitress brought the glass back after a couple of minutes, the glass was only half full, and I took a drink, it was not sweet. I looked at the straw and it was a short straw. I'm sure the waitress left my glass in the back, couldn't find it, then filled the closest dirty glass, then brought it to me. Gross. I will never go back there again and will tell everyone how bad it was. read more

Food might be good, service is terrible. I didn't even get my food then the bill came with it. I go there every Thursday for a meeting breakfast. NO MORE!!! read more

Country Kitchen's food is wholesome and delicious, always served with a smile. On multiple visits to CK, I have always found the staff here to be well-trained and helpful, and I love the fact that many of them have worked here for a long time and know their customers by name. The freshly baked bread, biscuits and cinnamon rolls are the best around. Huevos rancheros, potatoes to die for, sandwiches and soups very good too. read more

Our waitress Brook was awesome. So friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The omelets were great and the super thick huge biscuits are awesome. Next time I come I am asking for Brook's section again! read more

Warmly greeted. Very attentive, friendly service. Enjoyed the breakfast and the coffee was great! We left smiling. A great way to start the day. read more

This place is tasty. Lots of things made from scratch. Every time my parents come to visit we have to go here. My dad's favorite. I have never had the coffee there but my dad claims it's the best. I can say the chicken fried steak is yummy! read more

Was served coffee in a mug covered in lip prints and lipstick. Waited over 45 mins for our mediocre overpriced food and found a long black hair in my country potatoes. Wish I could give 0 stars. Will never come back. read more

I have been a pretty regular customer at the Country Kitchen for over 14yrs. Today was my last time. I don't know why but it is not the same place. The service is consistently poor to mediocre. It used to be very good. The food is not longer consistent. The portions are no longer consistent. It seems as if quality control is a thing of the past. Country Kitchen has always had great homemade wheat bread/toast. It still does but the size is pathetic. Each slice is about the size of two saltine crackers side by side. Normally you get 4 pieces. Today I got two. When I asked why two I was told that the baker made the loaf a bit bigger than normal so they only gave me two. They were in fact bigger but still not as big as in the past and then, you still got 4. It just seems that there has been a decline in their effort to be a great place to eat. It's as if they are penny pinching. So..... I've given them the benefit of the doubt but after four disappointing meals, I'm done. Not sure where I'm going in the future but it won't be my old favorite again, that is for sure. read more

I am one of a group of retirees that meet here once a month. The waitresses are very accommodating (important because the size of the group varies from month to month). The food is good. Some of us love, love the bread pudding! The dining rooms have recently been redecorated giving them a brighter look. As stated before, the bathrooms are clean. It is a good family restaurant. read more

We waited one and half hours for a simple breakfast order to receive it COLD! Terrible service and the food was terrible. Never again!

Yikes I'm glad I came here without reading any reviews. I love it here! I'm so sick of chain restaurants that I had to give this place a try. Sure the decor is a bit dowdy but the foods delicious, the service is prompt, and I leave every time without complaint. read more

Stopped in for breakfast and after asking for a recommendation, ordered the giant cinnamon roll. Received the best cinnamon roll I've ever had! Too big to finish. Highly recommend! Others in my party ordered corned beef hash and the diced ham, both were excellent also. Service was good, even tho the restaurant was extremely busy with Black Friday shoppers. read more

We had brunch on St, Patty's Day. The light green-tinted whipped butter turned a dark color on the French Toast. It all tasted delicious though my tongue had a green tinge later. I took a dessert order home for later. OMG- the Irish Bread Pudding with sauce was fabulous when re-heated tonight for special treat. I wonder if you have it on the menu any other time than St. Patty's Day? read more

We love this eclectic spot for either breakfast or lunch when we are visiting Redding. The staff is always so friendly and the food excellent. Thanks read more

This place is filthy and their breakfast is just so so. The service is SLOW!! Their coffee is also not the best. Besides that I guess the place is not so bad. They have a huge customer base but I guess it's all due to their location on Hilltop...afterall that's the only reason I even went in. read more

I have eaten here on a few occasions...boring and average food but the last time I went, and it will be the very last time, the food and service were horrible. Greasy, cold, the egg looked like a dried up quail egg, not cooked how it was asked for. Waited a VERY long time with no interaction from anyone. It is really not great food at all and the wait staff don't make up for that. read more

Good food with very poor service... They do not pay attention to who is seated in what order. After 15min and 2 tables orders were taken ahead of ours we walked out. Very disappointing! read more

The Country Kitchen is ok if they are not busy. It seems once they get busy the food and service goes down hill. The last three times my husband and I had breakfast there we noticed the quality of the food is not as good as it used to be. I'm not planning to be back soon. read more

I live in Redding, and have eaten there several times for Breakfast, and always enjoyed it. So today is my birthday, and my parents wanted me to suggest where to go. I thought a home type meal would be great. I check the menu on-line before, and knew what I wanted. So the 4 of us show up. And I got the Chinese Chicken Salad. Just disappointed. I have had Chinese Chicken Salads, and this one was a joke. I never had tomatoes or red bell peppers on a Chinese salad. I looked for the Mandarin Oranges, but only a couple if that. I was looking forward to a large beautiful salad, with cabbage, greens, oranges almonds, and a rich dressing... but was more like a regular salad, throw some almond slices in, and the asian dressing, and the chicken, pieces, were tough, and had to cut them up... anyways, I would suggest, having a Chinese salad elsewhere, like Applebee's for example.. Way better read more

We are regulars here...always great food. Always great service from Amber when she's serving along with the majority of the other girls! BUT...always that BUT! Can't say that for Kim since the last time I was in she gave me my delicious cup of dark roast coffee annndddd never came back for 20 minutes...took another couples order that came in after me, didnt refill coffee.... didn't do ANYTHING really! I ran out of time and needed to leave for an appointment. PLUS the restaurant wasn't even busy! I had to go up to the counter and give her my cup of coffee and offer to pay for it, she didn't let me pay but this still didn't get me the awsome pumpkin pancakes I was sooo wanting along with a full stomach. I want to give a 5 star because usually it is but when you get that bad apple... that ruins it for all the others...so I can't. Another thing I dislike.... I deleted the word hate and put dislike but really I do HATE cigarette smoke smell coming from my waitress and that's what you get when you have Kim waiting on you... sorry had to say it. It's dirty to me. Other than this episode our breakfasts usually aren't like this at County Kitchen ... you just have to have the right server. We miss Diane, that's when everthing was up to par and you never got FORGOTTEN!!! I'll come back because I love Ambers smile & service, and most of the other girls are great too!!! The food is great and homemade and they do accommodate you with your diet needs. read more

I'm so very disappointed in Country Kitchen. I remember going there so many times over the years and have had great experiences. I went in there with my friend on the 28th and had an omelette that was actually really good however the service was awful. When they asked if we needed anything else my friend and I were like...well..we would like our order taken? This is after a good half an hour waiting. I saw a lady ordering around other servers while she chatted with a table of customers for awhile. Today? Wow...no different but actually worse! We waited for an hour and were told by our server "Just a few more minutes" a couple of times...even given a very large cinnamon roll for free to share...but we finally got up and offered to buy our drinks but asked to cancel our order. We heard one cook was out sick, one didn't know what he or she was doing and so it was on the one that was left. Our food she didn't think was close to being ready but strangely the restaurant had cleared out and there were only a couple of tables (supposedly) that were still waiting. I brought up last Saturday and she apologized again. We went somewhere else but of course over an hour later..we were starving and irritated we had to start the process of going to a restaurant all over again! Now we can be patient and understanding people if we are told from the get go what is going on, not lied to that our food would be there any minute, etc...just tell us what's going on. Not once did a manager come to our table and apologize or explain what was going on. We had to go to her when we were canceling our meal (and I'm not sure she was the manager?!). We appreciate the meal is freshly cooked and so forth but an hour? Really? Um...I don't think so. I have read several of the reviews on here tonight and the business owner seems to respond with the same thing..."i'm sorry..we are busy...we cook things fresh...." same ole same ole...well guess what? It isn't working for you with all the complaints on here so one may want to start figuring out how to fix it before there is no longer a Country Kitchen! I'm noticing a pattern with the reviews and if I were the owner? I'd be noticing it too and trying to fix it. I won't be going back! read more

Everything about this place made me quite upset. We called in our order for half a waffle and strawberries, with whip. We arrive and are told they don't sell waffles by the half and are out of strawberries, at this point I'm ready to leave but we were buying breakfast for a close friend, so I dont really understand why no one could call us back and inform us about everything but they chose to wait until I arrived. We decide to get blueberries instead, with whip and they then go and make the waffle, this entire time so far has been close to twenty minutes so far and was operating so slow customers behind us who they wouldn't even acknowledge just left money on the counter and left. They then come back and forget the soda I ordered with it and charge us exactly $10.84 for a cold waffle and then tried to charge us more for the blueberries. Needless to say for my first time coming to the awful place with absolutely no customer service at all I will never go there myself. read more

Decided to stop here breakfast . Pretty disappointing . We (2 of us) were sat at a table for six, the table with a long bench on one side and 3 chairs on the other located at the front of the business . This table should be taken out because when you are sat here it gives the feeling of "out of sight out of mind". Which is exactly how we felt. Our waitress was so detached from her job, didn't smile and said about 10 words to us the entire time. No, we did not leave a tip. Food was bland eggs were cold , gravy needed something, salt? Pepper? We received our toast half way through the meal and other than the coffee, it was the warmest food item served. The place needs an update bad! Sorry to say we will not be back. The hardest working most friendly person was the bus girl! Most of the waitresses were on break while we there! I only know that because when the table near us asked for more coffee, the waitress said " I'm on break, but I'll get it for you!" read more
