I've always loved coming to Country Kitchen. They have a new menu as of 2024 with cash prices being significantly cheaper than credit prices. A lot of businesses are moving towards this model. The primary server is a young woman named Jessica. She's very kind and hard working. Loyal and funny. She's great with my children. The one thing I would suggest is that you strip your jacket prior to entering unless you want to smell like food all day!! Listen some people like that smell. I'll always return here. Came here for breakfast with the hubby on Sunday, late morning. We were the only ones in their. So it was nice and peaceful. The staff is very friendly, Nick is easy to talk to! To start with, we had a homemade banana nut muffin, grilled. It was delicious! The coffee tasted great. Not watered down like most diners. I had a basic breakfast, two over easy eggs, bacon, extra crispy home fries, and wheat toast. Nothing super fancy, basic but delicious. My husband got the egg white omelet with sausage and veggies. A little bit too much cheese inside. Probably could ease back a bit on that. But still very good. Price is extremely reasonable! Definitely looking forward to coming back for more breakfast options. The restroom could probably be a little updated and cleaner though. read more

Our server was so friendly and had a great personality, even cracking jokes with us. The omelette and French toast were very good and the prices very reasonable. 35 years ago, I used to visit this restaurant regularly for breakfast, as I had a job in East Haven. Today, nothing in this place has changed...the decor is a time warp back to the way it looked in 1983. That alone is not necessarily a bad thing, but overall cleanliness of the restaurant has suffered and, frankly, the place needs a fresh coat of paint and perhaps some new lights. Now let's talk about the food, because that's what really counts. I ordered a simple breakfast: eggs/toast/coffee. The eggs were OK, but the hash browns had no seasoning and were literally burned and had the taste of a dirty, used grill. Inedible! As for the coffee, it was almost undrinkable...zero coffee taste...almost as if the recipe called for three scoops and the employee put in 1 scoop. I want this business to do well, I really do. It used to be the staple of breakfast in East Haven for years. But it has lost its mojo, its cleanliness, and its good food. Not a recipe for success. read more

My "go to" place in East Haven for breakfast and lunch on the run. Friendly employees and a number of good options on the menu make this place memorable. The prices are also lower than average as is the portion size in some instances. But maybe we shouldn't always eat until we explode anyways so maybe a less than gargantuan portion size at a good price is something more places should try. In years past Country Kitchen has been the place for a quick and well priced breakfast in East Haven. However, the last few times I've been there it has taken over an hour to get our food. On my last visit my bacon and cheese omelette took 40 min to come out, while my girlfriends bacon egg and cheese sandwich took an hour. The waitress gave us an excuse that someone else took it, but based on the fact that there was no one else in the restaurant when our food finally came out..I'm not buying it! Country Kitchen, shame on you! You have obviously lost your way. Time to find a new breakfast spot! read more

This place is very much as other Yelp reviewers described-- if you want simple eggs and toast with friendly, but super slow service at affordable prices-- this is for you. It is a greasy spoon with good raisin toast, over cooked bacon, weak coffee, and crispy home fries-- it all tastes good (really,) but not a foodie joint or one for good health. The wait staff was friendly and if you're a local, you'll fit right in. As shared in my tip, you must bring cash, parking is limited, and there is not much diversity (of menu or people). read more

I went to Country Kitchen today and was talking to the owner. I found out two things I did not know! The first is they DO have WIFI which is a big plus for me because I do not use a data plan. This wifi thing will make my lunches even longer and more enjoyable! Hopefully, the local business people will go for ~business lunches~, have a great lunch and if necessary do a little work. Secondly, they take both credit and debit cards. Could it get any better...after finding out about the wifi it can't get better for me. BTW... The country kitchen is right around the corner from where I work. You can imagine I've been there more than my fair share of times. The good part about you reading this review is that I keep going back. There's a good variety of food on the menu. The business is locally owned by a small family. The food is pretty good. The place is a bit dated and could really use some updating. I'm not expecting a miracle but the floor and the furniture really need to be switched out for new stuff. We've been going to Country Kitchen for 35 years when we want a quick, affordable breakfast. With the new owner, the place is cleaner but new waitresses only want to close as early as possible and are upset if you go in a hour before closing. They don't even want to put up fresh coffee. I ordered an egg sandwich last week and the english muffin was so tiny that it wouldn't hold the one egg and the thinnest bacon on record. The potatoes have no seasoning much less a little onion. I am a tiny person with tiny appetite and I left hungry. This was the third and last time I visited and left unhappy. read more

A good little restaurant. We went for breakfast and we're not disappointed. I ordered the pancakes as the waiter Nick told us they were one of the best things on the menu. We got a pancake for my son with a ton of fresh fruit on top and my wife got the rainbow burrito which again nick said was one of the best things on the menu. I wish I had gotten one of the burritos as it was very very good. The pancakes were good as well. The biggest surprise was the potatoes that came with the burrito. I am not a breakfast potatoes fan but I try them constantly as they come with most breakfast dishes. These were excellent. Nicely flavored with a few herbs and enough salt. That is what impressed me most about this restaurant. The kitchen seemed to get bogged down easily, I think there is only one tiny bathroom for the place. There is parking both on the street as well as behind it. I would definitely go there again. read more
