Good food, it just takes a while. We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. It wasn't all that busy but it took about an hour all in. We ordered the home burger, which was delicious. Ordered it medium and it came closer to well done, but it was really flavorful and seemed like it was cooked New Haven style instead of fried. I nabbed a chicken tender from the kid and it was crispy and flavorful too. It's got a fun ambiance inside, with a couple of tables lower to the ground with comfy chairs. My friend picked this as her birthday dinner. We shared appetizers and ordered our own entrees. The eggplant fritters were lukewarm inside. They clearly keep them refrigerator and then fry them to order. So, outside crisper up fast and inside was barely heated. Fried dough chips were unremarkable. My home burger was good. Nothing to brag about. My friend who ordered the shrimp salad wrap said it was good, but the Mac & cheese side tasted weird to her. Three basic cheeses (one being big chunks of Muenster, another a delicious Gorg and the third teeny tiny pebbles of Halloumi) a few strands of very tasty pickled peppers that weren't the least bit crisp. 6 tiny toast points and some tart blueberry chutney. So underwhelming. Dinner was a disaster. 'Gavadeels' cavatelli was NOT cavatelli at all but rather pasta shaped similar to a cavatelli. Topped with pork cutlet that was over fried in old fry oil. Taste was hard to clear off the palate. The eggplant ribbons were charcoal like. Coconut shrimp was way overdone in same oil and so tough you couldn't cut with a fork. Black. Ordered margaritas. For an entree we split an ahi tuna melt. It may not sound all that interesting but so light and tasty. Served with awesome fries. We went there for dinner after a show, but the restaurant was actually pretty run down looking, the silverware and glasses on the table had specks of old food, and the menu was very unappealing. For a long time we've been hearing from our foodie friends what a great spot Home is, so we finally made our way for dinner one night! We were seated in the front dining room, which was very cozy and has a laid back vibe. Had dinner here a few nights ago, and the food is great. We shared the General Tso's brussels sprouts to start, followed by the blackened salmon salad. There were enough brussels sprouts for four people at least, and there were only two of us so we brought the leftovers home. Word to the wise: even though I heated them in my toaster oven to try to get back some of the crunch, it wasn't that successful and I ended up throwing them out. Better to eat them at the restaurant and leave their what you don't manage to eat The brussels sprouts are drizzled (drenched) in a wonderful sauce, but it was a little over the top so I would say less is more in this case. The blackened salmon salad was excellent, featuring a cucumber salsa with pickled corn, black beans, and confit tomatoes over a bed of romaine lettuce and dressed with chipotle ranch dressing. The salad comes with plantain crisps, but I chose to leave mine off as I'm not a fan of plantains however they are prepared. The salad was excellent, but there was no "real estate" left on the plate, meaning the food went all the way to the edge of the plate, which made it hard not to spill some of the food on the table. More about that in a minute. Generally speaking, this is a great restaurant, but the service was slow and they weren't that busy so I wasn't sure why we had to wait so long to be served, ask for the check, and then wait another 15 minutes for them to collect the credit card to pay for the meal. Further, and perhaps this is on management, but the serving staff should be better trained so that they remove dirty plates in a timely fashion, and come equipped with a crummer to remove any excess food or crumbs from the table. Some of these small touches can make a big difference. read more

The food here is pretty good. They have some nice mac & cheese options and some interesting spins on dishes. I ordered the ribs with cheese grits. The actual meat portion was small considering the dish was $35, but that's inflation for you. We enjoyed our meal, but found the dessert options limited so passed. The ambience is interesting as the place is casual and resembles a lounge more than a restaurant. There are options where you can sit around a coffee table as though you were at home, and eat your meal there. The service was decent, though it was hard to get the waiter's attention at times. Home has been a favorite of my family's for years and is conveniently located right across from the green in the center of Branford. This visit was as enjoyable as all the others with good food and a friendly server. There is a larger room with more typical restaurant tables in the back, but the font room (seen in the photos) is my favorite and has comfy seating, like you're just chilling in a living room. I love that the menu will sometimes change with the season to include fresh food for each time of year. They offer all the items you would think of as comfort food too, exactly what you would think a place called Home would serve! I've had plenty of different items and have never been disappointed. At this particular visit, my friend and I came for just a bite and a drink. We enjoyed our wine, shared the cheese board, and had soup and salad. Overall - pretty good. Prickly pear margarita had just a little bit of bite from the jalapeno tequila. Would definitely have it again. We started with the New England Local Conch Chowder and the Mussels and Fries. The chowder was very tasty and had nice chunks of potatoes and bits of bacon. I don't know what a "local Conch" is, since the place is near LI Sound, but it doesn't matter. I didn't find any conch chunks, local or otherwise. The chowder tasted good regardless. The mussels and fries were really good, although fries just don't compare to a good chunk of bread for sopping up the sauce. The fried green tomato sandwich with the hamburger add-on was really good and filling. The Cajun Tuna Spinach Salad was another decent dish. The tuna was seasoned well and cooked to just rare enough. There was perhaps too much dressing. Would suggest asking for the dressing on the side. The place makes an effort to cater to those with food allergies and has a good size gluten free menu. I've lived in this area for my entire life but I don't thinK I ever realized Home was a restaurant! My friend brought me here raving about their fried dough chips as an appetizer option! The chips are small pieces of fried dough and they're served with tomato sauce and a ricotta cheese spread on the side. It was absolutely delicious! I have never HES and of a dish like that before but I will be returning just for that. I also ordered a burger called the Patty Melt! It had melted cheese, fried onions, and an aioli sauce on it, all served on rye bread. It was absolutely delicious and so big, I had leftovers to take home! The atmosphere is also super cozy and completely fits the name of "Home." The seats are cozy couches or cushioned seats and the lighting is dim and warm! I received exceptional service from the owner and chefs at Home. By far the best experience I've ever had with a restaurant and they've earned a regular customer! So I was looking to impress someone with a gluten free meal for their birthday (hard to find great restaurants for this). As I am an unexceptional cook, I chose Home as the place for the meal because of their dedicated gluten free fryer and kitchen spaces. I called with a last minute request for a special order for GF fried chicken and potatoes/Mac (some of which were not on the menu). When I arrived to pick it up they had gone out of their way to make special batter and went all-out in their meal prep. Home really went above and beyond and made someone very happy on their birthday after having two years of fun birthdays stolen by Covid. I cannot give enough praise and thanks to everyone at Home. The fried chicken, Mac, and potatoes were incredible. The GF chicken was unlike any I've ever had! Crispy and flakey.
