I was referred to countess alterations by a team member at Macy's after I requested a referral. I definitely wanted an experienced tailor after spending a pretty penny on a suit. The owner was friendly, quick and experienced. The cost to alter was worth every penny. After I was sized, I paid and picked up a week later. Unfortunately I had to pick up after hours and took a gamble to see if anyone was still working at Countess Alterations. To my surprise the owner was still working and let me in!!!! This will be the last time I ignore the previous negative reviews of a place, because they are outnumbered significantly by the positive ones. I brought in a brand new pair of $375 very limited edition Iron Heart jeans I bought myself for my birthday to have them hemmed. Some people may find the price of the jeans to be the real problem here, but I bought them as a special gift and jeans like this last forever. The main points taken should be expensive and new. When I got them back, they were missing color in a bunch of small spots, mostly on the left leg. The effect is called marbling and usually happens when raw denim is improperly washed. I brought them in new. It looks like white splotchy staining on otherwise black denim. I brought them back here and left the jeans so they could consult their cleaner. When I came back I was told that it was a manufacturing default and I should call the manufacturer. Because they did not wash them as they do not wash on site. I said that it wasn't a defect because when I dropped off the jeans they looked brand new. I was again told that they could not have done it. Which they certainly did. They would not take responsibility for damaging my very expensive jeans, because they say the didn't wash them. I never said they washed them, I said it could have happened from using their steam powered iron on a high setting. So I have a $375 pair of jeans I've never worn that have what basically looks like permanent stains from male reproductive fluids. I hate this place and am infuriated that all their positive reviews will keep garnering them new customers. read more

I've been meaning to find a place in Sacramento to get my pants hemmed and tapered (lol short leg problems) since I moved to the area. It took me a while but I found Countess Alterations on Yelp and I'm so glad I brought my pants here. Great service and quality with very reasonable prices. I came here on a Tuesday afternoon around 4 to drop two pairs of pants off and to my surprise, there were already a couple of people in there including some regulars which I think speaks to their work if people are coming back. The waiting and fitting area is pretty spacious compared to some other alteration places I've been to. Once I put on my pants, the older man fit me in front of a mirror and made sure that I liked where it was hemmed and then also where it was tapered. He was very thorough yet efficient with the fitting. The younger man at the front took care of setting a date for pickup. I was given the option of choosing when I can pick up my pants but I wasn't specific and said I can come the soonest they can get it done. I was able to pick up both pairs of pants in less than a week. I came a little bit after the time they had promised it would be ready and they fulfilled that as my pants were hung and in plastic, ready to go. The price for a hem and taper was comparable to other places and very reasonable in my opinion. I've worn the pants as well and am very happy with the quality of the stitching and the fit. I took a bridesmaid dress in for alterations. The dress was in original packaging and still had the tags on it. As part of the alterations I had a slit put in the dress. Most of the alterations were pretty good but the slit was terrible and didn't lay right. I was constantly trying to cover it with my hand. To top it off, when I picked up the dress, it had a spot on the front. When I brought it to their attention, they blew it off as not their fault. They proceeded to charge me full price of $110. I walked away disappointed and of course never to return. read more

I called Countess Alterations to inquire about a basic dress hemming, they were the only place that actually picked up their phone when I called which was great. They were able to get my dress hemmed by the day/time that they said they would and the length was correct. However, I felt the price was a little high at $55 (I do admit that there was a lining that also needed to be hemmed so that may have added to the overall cost of the project). Also, there was a small portion that was missing some stitches, so I had to go back the next day and ask them finish it off. I think it was just an oversight because there was a safety pin where the stitches were missing, so I think they had planned to go back to it and then kinda just forgot? They were very apologetic and kind about finishing it, but it was somewhat inconvenient to have to go back the next day, considering how much the alteration cost in the first place. read more

I had brought a bomber jacket to have arms shortened I picked it up and it was super tight from arm pit couldn't lift my arms, and back. When he was seeing how much to hem he kept touching my shoulders i specifically said only take from bottom. They will not refund me for jacket or alterations. Bad bad customer service. I even bought another one to show how it fit prior to dropping it off. The son kept saying they didn't do anything to it. It was a brand new jacket i could of returned for bigger size if it was too small. I had taken others items to be taken in and hemmed always having to come back to have them redo. I believe their is a language barrier. Also he charged me 23.00 more than other places would have charged for doing the jacket. Buyer beware!! I bought a double breasted tuxedo jacket that was too big in shoulders, too long on arms and too long and too wide. They immediately had me put on jacket , he pinned it on arms and shoulders and the length. The jacket fit perfect for me around the waist already. In abt 10 days it was ready(they did ask me how soon I needed it, I didn't need for a month). It was ready exactly when they said it would be and fit perfect. This family owned shop is very efficient and has altered many pairs of pants for my short stature. I think they do fabulous work, maybe a tad pricey, however people have to make a living. I understand that and I'm sure renting space in Roseville is expensive which could be why the prices are a lil higher but I do love their work and I will return with my business. read more

I needed to get hiking pants altered. This is a very difficult task. As its the type of REI all weather pants with zippers to convert to shorts. Zippers along the legs so one can remove the lower leg portion without removing the boots. If you're an avid hiker, you know the pants I'm talking about. I needed the length shortened, so in order to do this they would have to remove the upper zipper and refit it after shortening the leg. Ok, they did this task perfectly. So I brought in a 2nd pair. And that also was done perfectly. You can not tell that the pants have been altered. The alignment is perfect on the sides and the conversion zippers. Since then, I don't go to other seamstresses. This is a family business, and they are such pleasant folks. Sometimes I just stop by to say hello on my way to other shops along the strip. read more

I love this family run business. I have had three suits altered here and four pairs of pants hemmed and tapered. All of them came out looking so good. My pants ripped one time after they got altered. The seem that ripped was not even one that they had touched. I took them back and they repaired them in 2 minutes and had them back to me, no charge. Those pants have not had an issue since. I frequently need my store bought slacks hemmed because they are always too long. Countess Alterations does an expert job of hemming my slacks to a great length and finishing off the sewing so they don't come apart. They may cost a tad more than some cut rate alterations shops, but the work is first rate here. As I don't travel to this area more than once a week, I can always arrange to pick up the finished work on time for my needs.
