If I could give this visit Zero stars I would. Thursday 5:45pm ordered food, finally got it at 6:55 once we were getting up to leave. It was cold and nasty. Our server is Definitely not into his job and it shows. We had to get up and get our own drinks and then had to wait 40 mins for the bill. Very disappointing. If I could give 0 stars I would. I seldom write reviews, but I had to in this case. I'm from Chicago so I had heard good things about this place and was eager to try it. I ordered online yesterday. The order I got was almost nothing like what I ordered. I got potato soup instead of the chicken and dumpling soup that I ordered. The macaroni and cheese that I ordered was missing. The green beans were an extremely small portion. I ordered fried shrimp and got grilled shrimp. Completely incorrect. I will not be patronizing again, and will make sure I let everyone I come into contact with know my experience, so that they don't make the same mistake that I did in thinking that this was a good spot to eat at when here in Texas. read more

We have had some Great experiences here lately. We haven't been to cotton patch in years!!! We went one Sunday after church and had a new waiter...Trinity. She did a great job. Especially with my daughters special order kids meal (and still learning the ordering system). Tonight we went in again. Ordered. Mentioned all the special things...and requested no pepper on her pasta noodles (like last time with her babysitter). Trinity remembered that incident. I'm giving this place a 3 stars because I've been coming here for years and the servers are wonderful. This place is a hit or miss in my opinion, one day the food is delicious and the next visit is a disaster. Not sure if the cook is having a bad day or what, because my husband's chicken fettuccine had an awful smell, like spoiled milk. At first I told him it might be a different type of cheese that was used. But after I tasted his food, oh my goodness it was bitter and it didn't smell like good cheese at all. My chicken fried steak tasted like the meat was boiled and then fried. But he meat was still tough and it didn't have a fresh taste to it. The only food we ordered that was good is the fried green tomatoes. Although the tomatoes wasn't green, lol. In pure honesty, my stomach didn't feel so good after eating a meal yesterday and I had many visits to the, you know where.... We hoped the manager would come out to our table and ask our food experience after our complaints but never came out. The table behind also complained about their food and left also. We decided to not visit this place for many months to come. I really hope the manager taste the food they serve to their customers. And ensure the products they use are fresh and not spoiled. Not only was I not impressed with the food, but apparently y'all's staff is known for stealing! Yes, stealing. I guess the cash tip I left wasn't good enough for your waiter. He, or one of them decided to add a $5 tip after I left to my credit card transaction. My meal was $29.39. My card is showing a charge of $34.39. I will be reporting this to my bank! Shame on y'all UPDATE: After speaking with the GM. I found out the waiter threw away my original SIGNED receipt. Then replaced it with a new one that DID NOT have my signature on it, but had $5 tip. Are you allowed to eat here if you are under the age of 70? I've (almost) eaten here twice. First time was before going to a movie (in the same mall). I guess we caught them at shift change or the server failed to notify any waitstaff about us. We waiting maybe 20 minutes before getting up and leaving. Not one waiter talked to us. No water, no menus, nothing. The sad thing is that another couple came in and sat besides us. They got their FOOD before we even had a waiter acknowledge us. The other sad thing is that a couple waiters passed by our table and did nothing. Yes, I understand that each waiter has their own section. But a good waitstaff would notice "Hhhm, these people having been sitting her a long time and don't even have a glass of water in front of them." But nope. We waited about 20 minutes, more out of curiosity to see how long we'd sit without being helped. Second trip - mini-version of the first trip. Everything went fine. Seated, served, waiter seemed on top of things.......then he disappeared. I tracked down another waiter to get drink refills. But once our food was served, I think our waiter's shift was over or he got fired or he quit. Who knows. Never visited our table after initially bringing our food. After we all finished, I waited 5-6 minutes and asked another waiter if she could bring us our check. She was very annoyed by this. Keep in mind, it's been around 30 minutes since our waiter has came to our table. We got the check and waited a few more minutes......the new waitress never came back to take our money. The old waiter never came. I went up to the hostess and asked if I could give the bill to her and she said I needed to pay my server. Uggg. Oh - I got the salmon. It was raw in the middle. Raw. Disgusting. At that point I put my debit card away, we all pooled our cash to cover the bill, and we left it on the table and left. AND for context.......there were maybe 5-6 tables being used. Located in Temple Mall the atmosphere is quiet for a Saturday. I was able to get a Salmon Cesar salad and didn't have scare the Chef. Which is funny because every time I have come before my order is always special (gotta love food allergies). Ashley, our waitress, is always attentive and a very friendly girl. Located inside the Temple Mall across from Casa Ole, I enjoy coming here for the Grilled Cajun Duo when I'm in town and craving seafood. The restaurant is spacious and always has plenty of seating. Now, although my meal is consistent, it seems that the service is not. The waitresses are friendly, but it appears every one we've had is forgetful (i.e., forgetting drinks, sides, silverware). One waitress in particular, insisted that only one side came with my entree and tried to charge me for a salad. I told her to bring me the menu and pointed it out to her, which she admitted to her mistake. I'll still come back for the food because it's delicious. I called In & specifically asked for additional gravy for our 2 orders of turkey & dressing. They sent 1 gravy condiment cup per dinner which the manager, Charity said was what they send for each order. So, no additional gravy was sent & the turkey & dressing was dry. We just spent $48.00 for 2 meals & we were not able to enjoy our meal. We are 15 minutes from town so we were not interested in driving back to town to pickup additional gravy after the fact. That was all that Charity offered. I did ask for some compensation for their error but nothing was offered. We will go to Cracker Barrel the next time & I will make sure that I tell all of our church & other friends Not to go to Cotton Patch & not to order from your "to go" menu. read more

Something has happened to the restaurant I used to know. I ordered a chicken fried steak from the lunch menu with mashed potatoes, green beans, and white gravy. The mashed potatoes tasted like they had soap in them. I asked for fresh bread and the waitress brought me the same bread that had been reheated in the microwave. Place is just like I remember it when my sister and I went to it after it first opened. I had the grilled pork chops and for once, pork was actually juicy and tender. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to get pork that way without undercooking it, but they managed it. Color me impressed. I also loved the fact that they cooked the broccoli on the grill, so it had that meaty flavor I wasn't expecting. Our waitress was attentive and polite and was great at getting our drinks refilled. The food came quickly, which is great since on a lower carb diet I cannot eat most appetizers at this point because invariably they're all deep fried, breaded monstrosities that wreck havoc on my blood sugar. I placed an online order to go and paid online. The food was good and what have you. My only complaint is about getting a refund for a dessert that they are no longer making. I was simply told to call customer service to get the refund but was not given that number. In past experiences, I was usually offered a refund on the spot or it was offered to me that I can choose an alternative to replace the item that was out of stock or no longer being made. I just went here last Sunday. They are going downhill very fast. They now charge for cornbread FYI. I got the Cajun tilapia with shrimp plate and it was okay but not worth the new expensive price. They raised it a couple $. The service was not so good. I had to ask for refills. The cornbread that was complimentary before we paid $2 for and the butter didn't even melt on it even though it was a skillet cornbread. The taste of the cornbread was good. Very surprised by our experience. This was my family's first meal here and it was much better than expected. Their menu is comparable with Cracker Barrel and many other home style cooking type restaurants. We ordered fried pickles and they were hands down some of the best I've had! If you're looking for a Texas option besides BBQ or Tex-Mex, you'd do well to try the Cotton Patch Café when you're in Temple. They have a good variety of classic Southern staples including the Texas standard of chicken fried steak. I went here last night because I remembered their wide variety on their menu. Everything I had was above average -- green chile queso, salsa, chicken strips, fries, sautéed mushrooms, and a roll. The roll was a nice touch as well, considering how many restaurants don't serve bread anymore. Our service was excellent as well -- just the right combination of friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Definitely one of the better options in the Temple area and definitely a safe option when on the highway in Texas. read more

Ordered 2 trailblazers for curb side pick up. The food was horrible. They didn't get my order right . This is the second time this has happened. Should have learned from the first time. I asked for brown gravy on the side and on the mashed potatoes and on the trailblazers and didn't get any at all the food was dry and hard to eat. First time here, I took my parents to taste some South Home cook meal. The food was delicious and the price was reasonable. Parents had surf and turf and I had Cobb salad with avocado dressing. The Cotton Patch is a staple restaurant for our family when visiting Temple. The food is always fresh, and it is one of the few restaurants in Temple that actually serves vegetables. :) On our recent visit, we had four adults, a toddler, and an infant. The staff was accommodating about our need for a large table, a sling, and a highchair. Our waitress was over-the-top friendly and attentive to our endless requests. I enjoyed the Wabbit Platter (don't hate--that's the actual name of the veggie plate). All of the vegetables were cooked to perfection and the squash casserole was delightful. My mother and niece had the Chicken Fried Steak and loved it. I don't usually frequent the Cotton Patch in Round Rock, but in T Town---it's your best bet for fresh *real* food. read more

Poor execution of a good idea. My server didn't seem to grasp removing of empty plates or getting an answer to a question. The meatloaf isn't bad but the burgers are a generic frozen low quality patty. I asked before if the burger was fresh or frozen and my answer was "that is a good question."
