My husband and I ate here for the first time in May. I recently had gastric bypass surgery so I was limited on my choices. I ordered the salmon with broccoli which was very tasty. My husband ordered cheese fries, the Texas size, and he could not finish. He also had the Chicken Fried Steak which he enjoyed. We finally got our food and the Sandwich was very disappointing! Served on dry cold toasted bread. We asked about bun and was told no that is served on TEXAS TOAST! We got THIN SLICED COLD TOAST! Ordered sweet potato fries and got cold fries ! They corrected this blamed it on short staff in kitchen! Was not the new hot chicken sandwich we ordered. Chicken fried chicken was good , hot and tasty. Experience was enough for us not to go back! Hope they get TALLER STAFF IN KICHEN! It seems like I'm on a mission to review all of the Cotton Patch Cafes in Texas lately. I guess it's just comfort food to me. Yesterday I went to another location. Since it was Monday, the server was nice enough to mention that it was Chicken Fried Monday. That would allow me to get a dinner serving of chicken fried steak with two sides for only $2 more than a lunch serving with one side. I thanked her but told her that it's just too much food for me. I tried it once but could only eat half of the steak. So I was happy with my lunch portion. The service was very good without hovering around too much. The steak was the same as ever and the fries were crisp. I'm sure I'll be back to enjoy more of their Texas-style hospitality. read more

I was really disappointed in the Chicken 'n Dumplings I ordered for lunch!! I only got two tiny pieces of chicken, maybe 12 dumplings and it was just a thin broth. Like chicken broth with no thickener at all. No flavor. I also ordered the Baked Squash. It was ok, but not as good as I'm used to getting. When I told the waitress about no chicken in the dumplings, she said "I'm sorry, honey". That was it. However, I did get a side order of the spicy cornbread in a skillet. Split it with everyone at the table and it was great!! Should have ordered it and a salad. Lessons learned. No more Chicken 'n Dumplings at Cotton Patch. read more

I'm in Rockwall at least twice a month. I usually visit this restaurant 2 nights while I'm in town. Crispy always provides the absolute best service. He always confirms my order and goes the extra mile to make sure that I have everything that I need. I definitely recommend these guys. read more

*update on 10/6/18 After my long rant 3 months ago, Misti the GM at this location reached out to me to request that I return and give them another chance to rectify the mistakes that occurred with service last time I was there. I finally got a chance to come in today with my boyfriend and his parents, and I must say I was extremely satisfied. The food came out quickly, our drinks were actually refilled without us asking, AND we got plenty of baskets of bread within minutes of asking for it. Our waitress today was Amber and she was very on top of things. I tried to request the waitress we had last time, but she was no longer there. For food my boyfriend and I both got the chicken fried chicken that we raved about before. Still tasted amazing! His mom got a Cajun dish that had shrimp and crawfish on rice which she was very happy with. The fried catfish that his dad ordered was also fresh and crispy. Overall this meal was fantastic and made up for any complaints that I had previously. Definitely will come back! ---------- So I've actually been to Cotton Patch Cafe before but at a different location. The food is pretty much dependably average everywhere. The rolls here are good but jot as good as Texas Roadhouse. However, they do have pretty good cornbread, which is more unique. Unfortunately this is also where the 2 stars in my rating comes from. The service when it comes to bringing rolls and cornbread was suboptimal. To emphasize it was unbelievably poor to the point that I felt the inclination to write this review in the first place. I usually don't care to review chain restaurants. Our waitress may have been new or she just didn't like our table. She was either no where to be found or tending to other tables but not ours. We had to ask for water refills and rolls and bread multiple times. When it came time for the bill, we asked for some rolls to go, which is not unheard of. The funny thing is that every time we asked about rolls, she would say, "They're in the oven, let me check on them again." That would be believable and not so bad if only I hadn't seen 3 tables around me getting their rolls without asking. Same thing with our to go rolls. When she brought the bill to us, she said the rolls are still in oven, as if to say that we won't be getting them before we leave... I say this because my boyfriend's dad responded to let them bake and when she returned with his card, there were no rolls and she bid us goodnight and have a safe drive with no intention to come back. We had to call her back after waiting another 5 minutes, seeing other tables given rolls, and our waitress out of sight. I would love to chalk it up to Cotton Patch Cafe is stingy with their free items, but it really seemed that our waitress didn't care. In the end the food wasn't bad; I actually think this place has the best chicken fried chicken. It was just the journey to get our rolls was ridiculously arduous throughout the couour dinner. read more

Covid has taken its toll on Cotton Patch. Service was fine, staff friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the quality of the food is suffering. I had the meatloaf, tasted mainly of garlic powder, and over mixed to consistency of pate. Sides were slightly above room temperature. Meal was served and halfway through the rolls arrived. All this and you get to pay 5% surcharge. read more

Excellent lunch! My first but not my last visit to the Cotton Patch Cafe. They have a pretty good menu selection for almost any visitors taste buds. I chose from their lunch menu and had the 4 piece chicken fingers and fries and with the warm roll and butter served before the meal I am full. If I'd not had the sweet tea my lunch would have been under 8.00. My server was very attentive and made sue the tea was refilled before I needed to ask. I will be back. Always busy. Dinner time wait was about 25 minutes. Sometimes the lunch has wait time but it's usually pretty quick. Part of the wait time seems to be caused by lack of adequate staff. Several empty tables waiting to be cleaned. The food is pretty good. Along the lines of the Black-eyed Pea chain before it went under. Comfort food choices but the one I miss that they took off the menu is the pot roast. It was quite good. Service is usually slow (read above for my hypothesis). Several occasions and with different waitstaff and the same issue. You ask for something and they forget to bring it. There are few other options for home cooking comfort restaurants in the area and even with the issues I'll return. Just be aware that you'll have to wait and you might not get your straw or extra gravy. read more

Hello, wanted to share my experience at this café on7/18/2021. When we arrived and entered the facility the waitress said it would be a 30 to 40 minuet wait and we said that was ok and was allowed to wait inside after about 40 minuets people that came in after us were being seated, so after they called another couple to be seated that had arrived after we had arrived but they said no these guys (US) were here before us and they refused to be seated so the waitress started looking at her log and could not find our names and said she did not know what happened ( we know what happened) she seated several people before us and her attitude was horrible. The half order cheese fries are plenty... Lots of bacon. Fries weren't spectacular, but overall was good. I got a cup of the chicken tortilla soup and boyfriend got the chicken dumpling. We were both impressed with our soups. He got the grilled pork chops and steamed veggies. He said the pork chops had good flavor...a decent potion despite cutting off fat and bone. He also liked the veggies. I got the grilled Cajun duo. I liked the tilapia and the crawfish sauce a lot. It wasn't too heavy. I would get it without rice... I didn't particularly care for the rice and it soaked up all the sauce. I also got the baked potato...and it was good, I just don't think it went well with the dish which is my fault for picking it. Our waitress was great. She offered iced tea to go. The timing of the meal was good too...I didn't feel rushed, but there wasn't a ton of lag time either. This review is based on the customer service I received. The day after Thanksgiving, my workplace had a potluck, and I was expected to bring mashed potatoes. I schedule for catering to be picked up later that night, and confirmed it hours before realizing that I'd actually schedule for it to be picked up on Sunday, not the the Friday night I needed it. We called, and after explaining the situation to the staff on the phone, we were told to try to cancel our online order and then resubmit it again for the right time. After hanging up, we discovered that there wasn't a way to do so in the online site (as a guest) or via the e-mail confirmation. We called again, explained it again to the staff, and (I'm assuming management) told the lady on the phone to tell us that they'd put our order through. Having worked in retail, I understand the disconnect between the stores and the company websites (store level associates have absolutely no control over their websites). What I really wanted to write about was how I appreciated the staff and management taking control of the situation, especially since it was so last minute, and on a Friday night during normal dinner-rush hour. Everything was resolved within 15 minutes, and my potatoes were ready to go even earlier than the original time I'd asked for (all though on the correct day this time xD). Hoping to come back to this location for more than just mashed potatoes once this pandemic clears! Still searching for our Sunday meal replacement after losing area Blackr Eyed Pea restaurants. We ordered to go. Took a while for someone to greet us at the take out counter. Food here was ok. Large portions. Chicken Fried Steak had more breading than actual steak. We requested a side of brown grave as well as one of white/cream gravy. Brown gravy taste of prepackaged version and watered down. Cream gravy was thick a paste. Mashed potatoes had a "dirt" like taste to them. Mac &Cheese, corn, dinner rolls, and cornbread were decent. Well done Cotton Patch food and service people. Snuck out on a date night after dumping, leaving the kid with some friends. Chicken Fried Steak was crunchy and tasty. MOAR GRAVY! Next time please give me more than a little cup of gravy. Mac n Cheese and Fried Okra were average side cars, but who cares? The star was the CFS and it was a solid B+. Oh, and a personal thank you for not serving a prepacked, unthawed, into the frier, school cafeteria, processed cfs. The fully breaded complete to go steaks are okay, but nothing special. This appeared to be not that. The spouse loved her Fish n Chips. Deep fried spuds and Ocean Meat™, what's not to love? Aubrey our server was AWESOME! Food was great! Service was great! Prices are great! BUT.... We probably won't be back because some waitresses don't seem to get the fact that when people go out to EAT, they don't want their sense of smell assaulted by someone wearing WAAAAY TOOOOO MUUUUCH PERFUUUME!!!! Must have been sitting, lettuce is not crisp but limp. Sauce is gelled. Chips were very warm , salsa good just not enough for amount of chips. Tyler our server was decent, needed a reminder, to bring more salsa, & water. I could hear other waitstaff apologizing for the long wait. OH ANOTHER CUSTOMER NEXT to usTELLS Mgr. How displeased with the wait, walks out. The only time we saw her. (They usually check on tables) Chicken n dumplings not impressive, Cobb salad lots of lettuce, a fried chicken Breast, coarse cut on top, no egg, some avocado, not made as it should have been made. We waived down Tyler, asked where the food was? He had no answer. Only after the check came did he apologize for the long wait but didn't tell us what the issue was in the kitchen. You know what? I ain't hatin' on Cotton Patch. I've been to all sorts of restaurants, and I gotta say, for what it is, Cotton Patch gets 5 stars. In the cheap, home cookin', I don't want to cook but I don't want a taco category, Cotton Patch has always been yum to me. I've had a variety of the menu- from fried fish to pot roast'y style stuff and it's all been good. The kids menu is delectable, allegedly, and the chicken fingers pass the picky child test. Last visit was on a COLD night after looking at Xmas lights. We kept our poor waitress hoppin' with extra extra refills and "can I have a little more butter" and "this ketchup is empty" shenanigans and she stayed sweet and happy to help. Big tip for that, my friend, thank ye thank ye thank ye. I don't think they serve alcohol, but I honestly don't even think I care (imagine!!).
