So when we arrived, I asked for our party of 3 to be sat outside to enjoy the nice weather and the empty patio. However, almost immediately after we arrived, some of the restaurant staff began congregating at the table just behind us. Mind you, the entire patio was empty when we were sat. I felt it highly disrespectful for them to choose the closest table to a paying customer table to enjoy their lunches. After much observation, it seemed that one of the people at the table was the manager on duty. We listened as a server came out to ask for approval to give a customer a free meal and the ensuing conversation between the manager and the employee. There was other loud obnoxious banter between the various employees for the entire... Let me repeat... The ENTIRE time it took us to order, eat, pay, and leave. Live and learn, right? On the way back home from visiting our daughter at Baylor University we were in the mood for some fine homestyle cooking... In the past we had stopped at Sodalak's Beefmasters and always enjoyed it! So we kind of had that thought in mind but when we pulled up we noticed the parking lot was empty and the place was closed and it was due to remodeling etc. Boy were we disappointed.. Anyways my wife mentioned the Cotton Patch which happened to be just right down the freeway. We had heard of this place but never tried it so we decided to give it a whirl! As we drove up we noticed the parking lot was full right around the dinner hour. Good sign! As we walked in we were greeted very warmly by the hostess and promptly seated in a nice booth! The ambience inside the restaurant was lively and the food on the tables looked awfully good! Our waitress Emily came and greeted us warmly and took our drink orders as we perused the menu. When we made our decision she took our order and came back with a basket of hot rolls! They were sooooo good! Our food came out promptly...I ordered the meatloaf with a side of garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli rice casserole and was very happy and satisfied with the taste! Our family enjoyed the Cotton Patch very much and will definitely make it a future stop on our way back home! The facilities are very clean! The service excellent! And it is so convenient to the freeway! Definitely a 5 star experience! read more

Service was terrible. Food was wrong, chicken brought when brisket was ordered. People working were to busy hanging out in the back to wait on tables. We could ALL hear them laughing and talking but couldn't see them for most of the time we were there. Didn't fill our drinks or bring our check. Disappointing. read more

Really good food and excellent service! Price point and serving sizes are great, too. The restaurant is very clean and organized. We had the chips, queso, and salsa appetizer. Chips were perfect. Don't order to go unless you want to pay for food you don't get. This was very disappointing. We had multiple things missing in our order. A full desert and the gravy were both listed and paid for on our ticket. The best they could offer was a 'free' replacement next time we dined in. Lol. It is not free if you have already paid for it. The food we did get was a little dry(and not just the food that was missing the gravy). Underwhelming food, underwhelming service. Nice all around restaurant that needs to train their staff better. At least the waiter we had. Hubby ordered fried catfish without the hush puppies. I ordered Cajun tilapia. Both of us got chicken. The manager and his staff member personally delivered and set up grilled chicken, rice, garlic mashed potatoes, mixed veggies, macaroni and cheese, meatloaf, hot bread, and salad. What a great find! The restaurant has an upbeat new country feel and current design. The food is flavorful and serving sizes are filling. The chef decided that they weren't satisfied with the first set of pork chops they served and gave me another! Even though I thought the first set were fantastic! What great service and shows you this place cares about quality. I had requested salt and pepper at first to have available when the meal was served and there was no need. First timer here and it was great! We had a group of 22 and sat at different tables and it's really the best thing to do. Everyone enjoyed their meals and especially the hot rolls. Our servers were friendly and very attentive. Some people opted for their salads, burgers, chicken tenders, chopped steak and I got the chicken fried chicken -so yummy! This place was delicious! We split the chicken fried steak that came with 2 sides and we added on a mac n cheese. The bread rolls came out hot and fresh. They were delicious. The entire meal was great and my favorite part was that the patio is pet friendly. We were able to bring our girl and sit out side and enjoy the night. I'd definitely come here again! read more

Unfortunately we had pretty poor service. Food was good and the place was clean but the service was so damn bad. Had a conversation with the table next to us asking if they thought the same thing and shocker They said the same thing. Maybe more training is necessary. I am writing this in defense of a 75 year old gentleman who took his wife here on 2/9/2021. He and his wife thought the food was delicious and they had a wonderful time. When the man, who suffered a stroke last year approached the counter in front of the opening to the view of the kitchen, a male wait person approached him aggressively and with: "Do you have a problem?" My friend simply said: "I was here to pay a compliment to the chef. Our meal was delicious." At that point the waiter turned his back and walked away. Really Cotton Patch? Excellent home cooking! Just finished the Tough Mudder and we were starving. I am so glad it was suggested. Huge portions at a good price. Austin was our server and was very friendly and kept our tea glasses full. We had Chicken Fried Steak, Chicken Fried chicken and the Vegetable Platter. I placed an order for takeout of burgers and I requested the vegetables on the side as I was taking them 22 miles down the road. The woman that took my order even repeated the special instructions to me. Well, that didn't happen so by the time we got to the burgers the bottom bun was not eatable because it was extremely soggy. The salad tasted dirty (like dirt) and the lettuce was wilted. Tomatoes weren't fresh. My burger was ordered with cheese and no onions. Came without cheese and had onions sticking out of every side. Before she even took my burger off the tray, I told her it wasn't right. She was back within a minute with the same burger that wasn't hot anymore, and cold cheese that wasn't melted. The burger didn't come with any Mayo, mustard, or ketchup on it and none was brought with the burger. There were 3 of us and the server asked if we wanted rolls. We were all hungry so we said yes. She brought us 2! I asked for more and she said they were in the oven. Ok. She walked away and didn't return except to bring my salad. We never had a drink refill, she didn't ask if we wanted and my daughters meal came with a dessert but never got it. My husband ordered grilled chicken and rice and veggies and he said the chicken tasted like frozen chicken. My daughters chicken strips (looked great and she inhaled them so they must have been good) that came with fries and fruit. She got 2 strawberries as fruit and she asked for ketchup and never got it. The service was horrible from when we got to the host stand (he was very rude when we got there) and the server was not attentive to us (although it could have been because her section was so spread out). Either way, we will not be back. I don't know what happened to this restaurant as the earlier reviews were great but it's not now! Save your money and go elsewhere! read more

Was not very impressed with this place. The food is mediocre and it is never hot. When you send it back for some "fresh" all the server does is heats it in the microwave making it taste worse, and dry out! My chances of eating here again are very slim. read more

My husband and I went to the cotton patch in Bryan on Saturday evening around 5:00, wasn't too busy, we ordered fried mushrooms for an appetizer ( thought we were getting only 6 , the way the menu read) but a lot more. Husband ordered a patti melt and I ordered a simple bacon cheese burger, both with fries, order finally came after awhile, but no cheese on my burger or his patti melt, when we asked about the cheese, we were brought our melted cheese squares on a plate. We are also charged for a beer that was not ordered as we had the proof. Since they had not taken away any empty bottles. We came to this place after a recommendation from a coworker of ours. Seems as if mostly they served fried food, from chicken fried bacon to chicken fried chicken. Thee is a relatively decent selection of entrees on the menu, so you really can't go wrong. I'd look into the Philly open chicken sandwich. Melted cheese goodness and the taste of the grilled onions really makes it pop. the staff are going to be friendly for the most part, though you may find it hit and miss depending on time of day (there's a nearby movie theater so they oftentimes get crowded). Came here for dinner during the week with the GF. We had a coupon for a free appetizer and since neither of us had eaten here we decided to give it a go. I'm glad we went but I wish we had gone sooner. The staff was really nice and welcoming; as soon as we came in they sat us in a nice booth. For the appetizer we ordered the seasonal fried green tomatoes which was brought out to us in record time. It was piping hot in all of its goodness and came with an avocado-ranch sauce that was just awesome. Before we had gotten through half of the food our entrees were brought out. She ordered the mango talapia with steamed vegetables and fried okra. I ordered the chicken fried steak with fries and mac & cheese. Everything looked amazing and tasted great. There was so much fried deliciousness that we just couldn't finish it all and had to take home some leftovers (which I'm looking forward to). Chicken fried steak was nice and thick. My Cajun duo was very good. The fried shrimp were huge. Make sure you try the fried Mac and cheese. The service could definitely use some work. We sat awhile before we were greeted. Another group next to us left because after 10 minutes they were not greeted. We only seen our waitress 4 times. While in Bryan after spending the day coming from Waco via Rice and buffalo and enjoying the GHB Library immensely decided to partake dinner at this establishment. Had I read the previous criticisms of this place probably would have avoided it. However we charged right in and finding it packed to the rafters took a seat at the bar where we were immediately attended by a lovely waitress full of enthusiasm ( student no doubt) to which we ordered adult beverages (I was disappointed they didn't have Lone Star!) and our meal. My bride ordered the Caesar Salad, chopped and i ordered the Norwegian Salmon with rice and steamed veggies. Both were very good and definitely way better than Crackerbarrel!(shiver!) Went there earlier tonight! Ordered the chicken fried brisket and they had run out of it. Oh well...so I ordered the tilapia and shrimp and got my 2 sides as fries and cinnamon apples. I went to the Cotton Patch for the first time while visiting Bryan, TX. I am not one for franchises and like to find more local fare. But I was with my parents who need ADA accessibility and the Cotton Patch worked. The chicken fried steak was one of the best I have had outside of Joe's BBQ in Alvin, TX. The cream gravy was spot on. The sides and biscuits were plentiful! The service was exceptional! They were very accomadting to my folks. The drinks kept being refilled. I've been here twice. Once take out and once sit down with the shop guys. Take out I got the salmon with vegetables. Salmon was good but the best part was the rolls. I can just eat those and the salmon and be fine with that. The time I at in I brought all our shop guys out. They gave us a big long table for our group (12-14 people). I had the fried catfish which comes with 3 sides!!! Catfish was a tad bit salty but tasty nonetheless. Surprisingly, for a restaurant, the dressing was very good. The rest of the sides were good too. Peach tea wasn't too shabby though trying to find the perfect blend was a tad difficult. The waitress was so kind and polite though working with me. We have been coming here for years and I have never been treated so rudely. I ordered to go tonight and when I arrived to pick up my order the waitress working tge Togo counter wouldn't even let me talk. All she could say was "if you have a seat, I'll be right with you". Her tone was talking like she was talking to a 2 year old. Well if you could've shut your mouth and let me talk all I had was a question. Hmmmmm. Then the broccoli is always under cooked. We went here on a Sunday at 10:45am, which was awesome because all of the other places open at 11, and this girl was hungry! We were immediately seated and greeted by a super friendly guy. I go the chicken fried steak, taters, and fried okra. All of it tasted great, I had half of it left over b/c it was so much food.
