I came here with a group for dinner when we were touring in Monroe, and it was fantastic. I loved the atmosphere -- so cute and romantic. And I loved the exposed brick wall, which gave the restaurant a down-to-earth feel. I had their red fish with shrimp and it was delicious. Passing through from Texas,WHAT A FIND! Blown away by the service, atmosphere and most importantly the food. We have eaten in amazing restaurants all over the south and this tops the list. We said the food tasted like the past and present and the best of the future in southern cuisine. Our waiter was top notch and extremely attentive. He even went out of his way to bring my picky 5 yr old (who only wanted French fries for dinner) a small bowl of their hand made ice cream and strawberries to make sure her experience was as good as ours. My husband and I went to Cotton for lunch today. What a great experience!!! The food was GREAT!!! We had cream cheese and pepper jelly on flat bread for an appitizer. Wes had the grilled fish and greens on grits and I had the roasted chicken breast and grilled summer veggies. Prices were not bad for a lunch menu. The ribeyes are fantastic. The braised short ribs are so tender and good. you can cut them with a fork. The shrimp and grits are a great southern dish as well. I recently had friends in town from Los Angeles who wanted that authentic southern meal - Cotton's is the pkace for great food. read more

We loved the décor! I had the blue crab gnocchi, it was wonderful! Our waiter was great, we had a lot of questions and he was very informative. Great place for dinner after work. Large, pretty bar in an old building with local beers on tap, fancy and tasty signature cocktails like the blueberry Fence Hopper (which was tart like a margarita). B.J. the bartender was entertaining and helpful. We had a reservation, but decided to just eat at the bar...shared small plates. Loved the bacon wrapped duck and the creamy gnocchi with blue crab. The gnocchi was tender and melted in your mouth! We also got the baked oysters...our least favorite as the cheese on top overpowered the oysters. We didn't have an entree, but the soft shell crab with pimento cheese grits and herb salad would have been our choice. We will go back...it's a hip and delicious place...great for Monroe's dining scene! read more

They accommodated our group of 11 people with a same day call for a reservation! Everything that each person ordered was delicious. The duck fat fries are to die for, and the gnocchi with blue crab are absolutely delicious. Very delicious first time eating here. Everything about this place was spot on. The ambience: refined and expensive looking but comfortable and welcoming. We were in jeans and dress shirts, others were in dresses and suits, others had sneakers on. No one looked out of place. Easy to get to and easy to navigate once inside. We had 4 different server recommended drinks All were good but the Old Smokey was a very nice twist to a whiskey drink. We started with the duck wraps. Great choice but for a extra tasty treat be sure to really cover them with the included honey mixture. He ordered the Couchon Du Lait. Nothing to say except it was excellent. I will admit that the beans tastes better with sauce than without but that's just my choice. This part of my review speaks to the service as well as the food. Number one: I DON'T EAT ONIONS. I asked if I could get the Shrimp and Grits without the trinity (onions, celery and bell peppers). Without hesitation Lane replied sure however I do want to mention that a lot of the flavor comes from the trinity. I replied that I'm from New Orleans so I'm used to leaving the trinity off and I promise I won't miss it. So they brought my dish and unfortunately it had green onions on top. Once I pointed it out they immediately apologized and removed the plate. A VERY short time later the general manager returned with my new plate. They had completely redone everything to ensure no random onions and offered sincere apologies. The dish was very well seasoned and I would not have changed a thing about it. Ended the night with the Mississippi Mud Pie. The pie was good but the ice cream and chocolate sauce was amazing. Chef came over to speak with us. He apologized for putting the green onions. I said no harm it was handled quickly. We ate all of our food-which is a rarity for us. Two is us: 4 drinks, 1 appetizer, 2 large entries and one dessert. Came to $126 plus tip. That's about normal for our dinners out but I honestly don't remember enjoying the actual food more than we did tonight at Cotton. read more

My family and I went to this restaurant while vacationing in Louisiana together. The servers and other members of the staff were great. Very polite and friendly. There were two issues that I had with the restaurant. 1) I feel that the choice of artwork for the restaurant was culturally insensitive and that many customers may find it offensive. The walls were covered in pictures of African American slaves picking cotton. I feel that just plain black and white pictures of cotton (just cotton, no slaves) could have have the same affect to go with the name without advertising such a dark and inhumane period of our history. 2) the food was mediocre at best. There was a limited selection of things. We had to change our order multiple times because they were out of several items. When we finally got our food, my French toast was burnt to a crisp and had to be re-made and the other options were lacking in flavor and overall disappointing. I reiterate again that our waitress and the service was great but with bad food and offensive decor I doubt I will be coming again. read more

Best place in the Twin Cities for a nice romantic dinner. My wife and I frequent this establishment for our date nights when we can get away from the kids. The staff is amazing and the food is bar none. And with an ever changing menu you can always try something new and never be worried that it will be anything but amazing. Cotton is overpriced for what you get. We ordered appetizers and the duck wraps and fries were very small. We had to order extra for a table of 5 with only four people eating appetizers. We ask the server for items which are usually on the menu and was told we could only get them upstairs or at lunch. We ordered off of the small menu of items. She returned to tell us all of the items we ordered were unavailable and everyone didn't order the same thing. It was highly frustrating. We paid for our soft drinks and tea and appetizers which was ridiculously expensive. We went upstairs ordered and waited over 2 hours for a pizza, and four burgers. The pizza came out and you could tell it had been done for a while. The cheese was not even melted anymore. We waited another 45 mins for the burgers. I had to leave so I never got my burger. So almost three hours for four burgers is beyond unacceptable. Yes we were required to pay for the meal but were not charged for soft drinks. I was less than impressed by Cotton/Planters. read more

I had the pleasure of finding Cotton while here for work and was taken care of by Eris. First off, Eris was SO Dang friendly! I would hire her in a second just based on personality and efficiency. I tried the Deviled eggs, Couchon de Lait, Duck fries and Pimms cocktail. Originally I popped in to grab the poutine on their example menu on Yelp, but sadly that is no longer available so I asked for suggestions, Eris did not disappoint, the Deviled Eggs were spot on and so dang tasty, the Pimms I was familiar with as my gal pal from London makes me those, and that Couchon De Lait.. My god.. that was some amazing pulled pork reconstructed back into a brick and then served in a cool skillet. What an amazing place to eat in a great building. Eris was so dang nice and I wish her all the luck as shes graduating in May so I fear I wont see her on future visits back, but the rest of the staff I saw running around seemed just as friendly. .Good job on hiring the RIGHT people not just *fillers* read more

I rate the food and atmosphere very highly. The service was good. There are a lot of inexperienced staff. I had the bouillabaisse with Cobia, Scallops, oysters, and shrimp. The Cobia was cooked very well. I applaud them for having a fish you don't see everyday on the menu. The rest of the table had rib eye and soft shell crab. They enjoyed their meals as well. They had a couple of small issues. They were out of some of the items on the bar menu, which seemed odd to me. How do you run out of Corona at 6PM on Saturday evening if its on your menu? Didn't ruin our meal though. We sat up stairs, if you want a quite meal I would recommend this as it seemed loud on the main floor as we left the restaurant. I will be back. read more

The location is beautiful and the inside is nice. A little eclectic for my family's taste. No kids menu but they offered to make chicken strips and then charged 10.00 for them which is not worth three strips and fries. The duck fat fries were very good. I had the strawberry spinach salad and crawl fish pies which were very good. My daughter had shrimp and grits but complained the spices were too much. My husband had the pork belly and cheek and said it was pretty good. We ate at better places for cheaper. The food was good but I don't think the prices were in line with what you get. read more

I had the lunch portion of the shrimp and grits and it was one of the best meals I've had in a very long time (and I live in Houston). Stopped on our way through Monroe going from Jackson to Dallas. Called when we were 5 minutes away and Lance Zeigler got us in no problem. So many excellent choices it was too hard to choose but the wait and kitchen staff accommodated us by mixing two half order appetizers together - deviled eggs & pimento cheese beignets. DELICIOUS! We also indulged in the bacon wrapped Muscovy which were also incredibly awesome. For dinner my husbands had the 72 hour short ribs, they were almost as rich as a dessert and the accompaniments were also excellent. I had the filet which was nicely accented with whole peppercorn. Another nice touch that was appreciated was they have staff that actually bring the food to the table which gets it to you faster than if your wait staff were to bring it to you. This also allows the wait staff to focus on tending to their customers. The decor of the restaurant adds to its character and charm. All in all it was a great meal and experience. read more

I have always enjoyed the food here but was floored when I got home with my to-go order. The crabmeat gnocchi was about a 2 tablespoon serving size for $14. I had ordered 2 thinking that would make a meal size portion as I had done in the past. Both orders put together made a small appetizer portion. I also ordered the shrimp wraps. The bacon was cooked on the outside but the shrimp and rest of the bacon were not cooked and by not cooked I mean raw and inedible. My son loved his hamburger and the spinach strawberry salad was good as well. When I went in to get my order I stood at the bar and I was not acknowledged. Someone walked up eventually and said the bartender would check me out when he was done with another customer. I continued standing there and he never acknowledged me. When I finally was able to pay my bill there was never a thank you or enjoy your meal. I got my change and placed a tip on the bar. The bartender looked and still never said a word. They were not busy at all with only 2 people sitting at the bar. I'm very disappointed especially when a year ago it was a completely different experience with staff and food. read more
