Bible Museum

I've lived here for the majority of my life, but it took moving away for me to realize what a historical gem rested in my previous backyard. First, our tour guide, Fran Winter, was extremely knowledgeable and personable. She has been working at this hidden wonder for the past 16 years. If you can, secure her as your guide. The entire museum is broken into four separate but connected sections; the Coca-Cola bottling exhibit, the garden, the house, and the Bible exhibit. All can be seen and toured at your own pace for free. However, I impress upon you to take the guided tour. The tour is not only cheap and historically revealing but it helps fund the upkeep of the grounds since they are not state-maintained. Not enough can be said about the eclectic and eccentric items that are on display at this timeless staple in Monroe, LA. Keep history alive by visiting and enjoying this American classic.

They have some cute Coca Cola stuff.

My family and I decided this was the best stop on our Monroe trip. The Coca-Cola museum was okay, I've seen so much of it before. The Bible Museum was very interesting. It was nice to be reminded of how blessed we are with easy access to Jesus these days. The real gem was Emy-Lou's gorgeous home and garden. Our tour guide was amazing! She has worked here for 18 years and was adorable. I wish we could've seen more but everything is closed due to Covid.

For anyone who has been to THE Coca Cola Museum in Atlanta, imagine that, but 1/1000th the size. It's basically a southern Dixie house they've redone to celebrate the man who helped Coke spread around the globe by making it portable and individual.

We came to Monroe so my daughter could check out the university and we had some extra time to kill before we needed to head back. Searching online brought us here and I'm glad it did. The Biedenharn family were the founders of bottling coca-cola back in the 1890's. The founder ended up settling in Monroe at this home around 1914 and the estate is still preserved today. Inside here are serval different sites to see. First, there is a Coca-Cola museum and store with tons of things to buy. In fact, I would say anything you can think of with the name Coca-Cola on it can be found here. Next is a tour of the home as it was left in the 1950s. There are many antiques inside that date back to the mid 1800's and the home tour was nice. There is also an outdoor garden area with many fountains, statues, trees, flowers and plants. This is a beautiful setting that has you quickly wishing you had a book and could sit back there and read or perhaps had brought a picnic basket. Last is a bible and art museum. This was actually very interesting to me. They have literally dozens of bibles in many languages dating back to the 1500 and 1600's which left me in awe. It was something I had never seen before and was glad I went. The whole tour only costs $6.00 and I would leave an hour to 90 minutes to see everything. You can of course spend as much time as you like and don't forget to bring some nickels. While on site you can purchase bottles of Coke out of their 1930's machines for $.05 just like old times. Enjoy!

One of the most beautiful gardens in the area. This is the place most debutants seem to show up for wedding photographs, but the place really comes to life when they open it in the evenings, especially during the month of December. My husband and I took my grandmother on a visit. More, my grandmother and I took him to see the place so many happy memories were made. This family was responsible for the glass bottling of Coke so you can still get a cold glass bottle for 5¢!! Super nostalgic.

We had a guided tour of the beautiful house, enjoyed the Bible Museum and the information about the history of the bottles.
