Went to Costco Friday at 6:30 pm ... found parking right away. Not crowded at all then ate dinner there. Hotdog is always the best deal in town. Kiddo had chicken bake and strawberry smoothie. I tried the calzone and strawberry ice cream. Love the ice cream but the calzone was a miss - seemed over baked and the fillings a little skimped. I willingly walked into chaos first thing in the morning. Chaos is also putting it mildly. I had never been to this location and even though they had just opened for the day, the parking lot was nearly full. I don't understand you people that can come here this early during a weekday. Don't y'all have a job to be at? After finding a parking spot, I made my way inside and grabbed a cart. Scanned my membership card and started to wander aimlessly since the layout of this location was a bit different than other locations I have been to. I just kind of made my way to the back corner of the store and hoped I was going in the right direction. Luckily, I was right. After grabbing the items I needed, I made my way to the front checkout area. I opted for the self checkout as I was in anti-social mode with my Airpods in. I approach the register, scan my membership card and start to scan my items. Only to be interrupted by an employee. Who then started to scan my items with a handheld scanner. Ummm, excuse me? But I didn't want to interact with anybody. Hence the SELF checkout. Thanks for encroaching on my personal space. If she would have scared me I may have reflexively smacked her. One of the better Costcos in Maryland. This place is huge, plenty of parking and with a gas station. Selection seems to be better than most. Very large space so doesn't feel cramped in the warehouse. Lots of check out stands and well run self check out. Food court is fast and efficient. Bathrooms are large and clean. Overall one of my preferred Costcos for shopping. read more

I drive the extra mile cuz it's worth it. Everything is better. Great customer service. Their return policy is unbeatable. I had a blender that malfunctioned. It was one of those fancy blenders and less than 2 years old. I thought worse thing they can say is no. They returned it without any issues because it was on my membership card. Gave me my refund in cash. Parking is not so bad. You will find parking. The gas station is cheaper and I get more milage on my car than my usual gas station. They always have samples!! Oh yeah they are strict with their membership. They check at the door and at the register. They got oxtails for like $5.99!! Cashiers are all very efficient at what they do, but not always very friendly, it's a hit or miss. Advice for management to advise staff: it's rude to speak Spanish through the entire checkout process only to their co-workers & NOT to acknowledge customer's presence. I'm truly appalled--truly. My experience as a customer has been completely ruined. I went in on Friday morning. Pleasant shopping experience--hence the only star, however when I approached the checkout, there was a disgruntled employee who seemed very bothered at every single client. Shouting left and right!! Very confused on why this was happening. Now, that's no way to behave. I don't know, maybe if you're so concerned about how efficiently check out is happening...maybe hey! As you get close to a holiday they even will open the doors early - who does that? And yes you have to show your card before using self checkout but its a national policy due to people giving their card to friends to use. This costs all of us to have people freeloading. Never used the pharmacy but tire and optical departments are great. If you are looking for a pleasant shopping experience--this Costco is where it is at. There were two ladies that were loud and rude working the self checkout lanes on 7/13/2023 around 1:00/1:30. The first one was yelling "do you have a membership?!" I responded 'yea' she's like "well I just need to verify that" I show it to her and proceed to a self checkout register. Once at the register I couldn't proceed with my transaction until I scanned my membership anyway so what's the point of keeping hassling people. I was asked 3 times for proof of membership. By far the better Costco in the immediate area. I am in Montgomery County and the Gaithersburg location is only about 14-16 minutes from my home. However, I would gladly driver 26 minutes to the Frederick location anytime. Why? It is just more friendly and less of a war zone. I have been going to the Gaithersburg location my whole life. It is always filled with fighting for parking spots and fighting for checkout lines that are shorter and going to the food court and waiting 25-30 minutes for a slice of pizza - or I guess ordering a slice of pizza on the machine and waiting for your pizza. They took away most of the seating area because it was just chaotic. That location is just..... gives me anxiety and nightmares. When someone told me to go to the Frederick location, my first thought was "why should I drive farther?" Well, they have Costco gas so the drive up there, you'll get back from the savings and cash back. Ok, that seems like an economic viable argument. When I came here for the first time, I was just floored with how relaxed it was. There was plenty of parking - all around. Of course people will be crowded to spots nearby, but if you are willing to walk a bit of a distance, you will have parking. I remember coming here on Saturday at peak time and had several options to park - albeit farther, but better than circling around for ages. Inside, it seems wider. They have most of the same offerings. I guess less Asian options - no Tofu or Kimchi that I found at Gaithersburg. Recently, I saw they carried soy sauce, which was a nice addition. I just never felt crushed while strolling through this location. I always occasionally walked in, strolled around, got my things and went. They also have a self checkout location for people who don't have that much and frankly, I think it sped things up. They have a food court, which has this weird line pattern that no one seems to follow. They do not have the ordering machines so the only way to get your order in is by waiting in line. They do have seating and there appears to be a good amount of seating as we never had that much trouble getting a seat for 5-10 minutes of eating. It may take longer to get here if you are closer to DC. You may waste more gas to get here. Your car may be in the sun while you shop. But, all of that for your sanity to be intact is completely worth it. read more

They dont care about OSHA.... at the end of the self-checkout line and literally next to the door frame of the front office, were stacks of 10 to 16 empty boxes tall. I barely tapped one of the trolleys and all these boxes came tumbling down and unfortunately hit an older employee in the face and the head that made him stumble backwards. I asked him several times if he was okay and other employees just stood around and looked. I asked two different people, one at the front desk if something could be done about that because it's obviously not safe to have those right next to a walkway office door and they couldn't have cared less. This location is way too busy. The lines are horrendously long to check out, even if you're here when they open, and the parking lot is always full. And some older people like to tell you you are out of the line and cut in front of you. I would suggest you open more than 5 registers when the lines are that long. Let the buyer beware. Last year I bought 3 computers for remote schooling and work. There was a 1 year HP manufacturer and COSTCO added a 2nd yr. Its even printed on the receipt. One of the three was defective and literally fell apart. It had 13 months. No problem right? WRONG. I was just told that their warranty doesn't cover that damage. Costco sells second hand. Had a shop card (gift card) left from my membership that expired a while ago. Yesterday went to use it there knowing that members and nonmembers (how is mentioned on the website) can purchase items base on this. At first they didn't allowed me to use the shop card because my membership was expired. After few minutes of "research" they said that it's ok but I can buy only for $21 (the amount on the card) even I had item for over $300+. During the worst of the pandemic these guys were the best place to shop, as an Instacart shopper I was here dozens of times a week. Unfortunately, over the last six months the service has degraded, checkout has gotten less and less efficient and items damaged during checkout has happened enough times I need to check everything before I walk out the door. Some of the employees are absolutely the most amazing, friendly and helpful people you'll find anywhere, others look incredibly unconvinced they have to checkout a large, well-organized order. Between the stress worrying about damaged items, frequently dealing with unfriendly people and the policies that waste everyone's time I would much rather drive to Leesburg where I am always treated with the utmost professionalism if I'm getting more than a couple items. read more

Costco Tire Center Purchased a set of 4 tires, walked out and saw my center cap missing from one of the wheels - an obvious missing hole in center of wheel as I approached vehicle. And the others were not set flush either! Reported back to clerk who said that I should ask the technician to look for it - the service area is all cordoned off and there's like 6 bays and lots of techs!? I objected and he retrieved it, ran it out, and banged it in with his fist. Yep ... it fell off by the time I got home. Ordered a new one (was "only" $20) and secured all of them with a rubber mallet. They get two stars credit for the good tire deal. But the carelessness, bad customer service, and the extra expense all combine to cost them three stars. First time I've ever seen sloppy work with wheels. I guess it's a good practice to always take a minute to check your center caps, lugs, valve stem caps, and so on, to make sure all the parts are there. read more

I went with my mom today to shop, as we've done many times before. I get up front to pay with my mom and give the cashier my membership card for my items, no problem. Gave her the membership card again for my mom's transaction and she has a hissy fit. Calls the manager over, who instantly got aggressive with me and says she can't buy anything if she's not a member, even though I was WITH her and I'm a member. I said "fine, refund the items and we'll pay it all on one card." He said no, continues to be aggressive with me and even goes as far to say "I'll happily cancel your membership for you if you can't follow the rules." First of all, I was literally WITH my mom the whole time. Second, what's the difference whether we pay on different cards while together or we pay on the same card and Venmo each other the money later?? Third, I think it's pretty crazy that Costco employees are now threatening to cancel people's memberships, if they're hurting that bad for money they should not be threatening to cancel ANYONE's memberships. Policy or not, employees don't have to be so rude and it seems like every employee in that store today was impatient and rude with people. I didn't get one smile in the store, even from the greeter at the front. Considering switching back to Sam's club! The worst staff I have ever interacted with at literally any Costco location & I have lived all across the country. The associates are down right rude & confrontational when guests are trying to shop. I had an experience myself personally as well as witnessed other customers be berated by staff. Ahhh Costco where you can buy a casket for your funeral, enough coffee to wake the dead and a cruise for your caffeinated ass to enjoy. The only downfall to this Costco and any Costco really is the mad queues at checkout. I've been to many stores in DC, Maryland and Virginia and the common issue is that the lines are backed up. Sometimes up to five people deep. When you think about the amount of stuff people buy at Costco this can be a bit of a wait. More do when inevitably someone tries to pay with Discover or they are told their membership has expired. Beyond that though, Costco beats the competition by a wide mile. It's Kirkland brand has been proven to be as good or even better than the leading brands it's competes against. Much better than the crap (yes I used the term crap) that Sam's Club puts out. That although being cheap actually tastes cheap rather than inexpensive but of good quality which is where Kirkland is. Oh and time it right and you could eat a dinners worth of food from the sample people. Gotta love the samples! Another bonus is that Costco treats its employees with dignity and pay them above a living wage. Costco has not impressed me lately Recently I found a chest freezer there that I wanted and once we FINALLY got some help . The guy was a jerk and was complaining about taking it out to our car . It shouldn't had been difficult . They had a dolly They were just making it difficult Today I went back to purchase another chest freezer and again ... had trouble purchasing it We went to customer service first who then told me we had to go thru the entrance and ask the person there to help me ..ok No problem They said they would send someone over to meet me by the chest freezer But then once I made it over there . No one came for about 10 minutes . We ( I was with my friend at the time ) decided to call Costco's actual phone # and had to ask thru that way to get help over in the aisle we were standing in . Once someone finally come over he was a smart ass and clearly didn't want to help . Making comments like ' Did you wanna buy it ' ? No dumbass I wanna steal it but I thought you could help me bring it out to my car After this .. it took 3 men to bring it over to the checkout - on a dolly ... then they deserted it there after we had already asked for help putting it in the car afterwards Luckily someone that works there ( 'Stephan?' ) was working the self check out station today and was able to gladly help us .
