Big Lots, if you send a coupon code, please make sure it works. I received a coupon code for $30 off a purchase of $50 & was quite surprised as that's a good deal. Told my husband we would go to big lots as it expires on July 1st. The first time we went, I didn't find anything to buy. The second time, today, we have a get together at our place tomorrow, so I picked up some stuff. We get to the counter and it's not working. No wifi connection so husband and I both step outside to try and get the code. Ben said there's usually a bar code and usually doesn't take this long. My husband said to just make the purchase, but I came specifically to use the coupon, it would not be right not to use it! So I told Ben to put my stuff aside, and I'll come back when we get it to work as our house has great Wi-Fi and we thought that was the problem. We've been home for hours and it ain't working!! I told Ben to let management know it's really annoying. I said I'd be back once I had the $30 coupon for my $50+ (picked up about $100), but since it's not working & it was just stuff I picked up just to use the coupon, I'll see if I have more of my time to waste today. This is the total opposite of my first experience. I don't know if it's the system or if it's just a way to get customers in. I finally got the bar code when I tried at 9pm this night! Ordered two small items online to pick up in store. Ample quantity of each item available when I ordered. Got a cancellation email a few minutes later due to the items being out of stock (so they say). Decided to go in to the store to check for myself and lo and behold, they were right there. At least 20 of each item I guess someone over there didn't feel like doing their job. This has happened twice now and it's quite ridiculous to say the least. Smh. read more

I typically go to Big Lots just to browse and check out the bargains. There's plenty of treasures to be found if you have a keen eye and don't come in with expectations. I usually come in for their organic and gluten-free food items. They carry Bob's Redmill, which is usually much cheaper than Giant and Wegmans. They also have a wide array of canned goods. I normally buy organic canned chickpeas and beans for just $1 each! Who can beat that?! They also carry brand name loaves of bread at half the price - Sunbeam, Wonder, Arnold, etc. I don't eat much bread anymore, but I do notice that they sell out pretty fast. Also, their cookies, biscuits, chips, jams and teas are very competitively priced. Definitely worth looking over, especially if you're building a foodie - type of basket. However, always be sure to check the expiration dates! In terms of the other items in the store, I think you can't expect a lot. If you have a discerning eye, you'll find some nice office/ school supplies, beauty products, and holiday decor. Holiday decor can't be beat! I've bought some brand name cleaning supplies and gardening items, which were all really good deals. Definitely give it a look see if you have a few minutes to kill. read more

You have a certain price point when you want to buy an item and when the item fall shorts, you grow suspicious of its quality and when the item costs more than your price point, forget about it. I like this new big lot! It's really organize and clean compared to the one in MV. The employees were really helpful and knowledgeable. There are affordable prices. You get what you pay for. At prices so low you should be knowledgeable enough to know it won't last long. There are some branded items. Good to buy cleaning products, hygiene, some food, & pet items. I love to shop here. I've never had any problems with customer service and I really think there should be a lot more business here especially with the great deals. If you're into beauty products, they always have these face masks that are absolutely divine for only a dollar - by the way, my skin is very sensitive! There's a large selection of snacks too! This is a new Big Lots in Germantown. I totally love it. Everything is super cheap and you can get great home decor items at a discounted price. TThe store is nice and neat and the employees are very helpful. I am 8 months pregnant and they helped me with my bags and everything without me even asking. They have a big selection of home furniture as well (compared to other big lots). I highly recommend checking this place out! read more

For right now it get's a 4. Referring to another review posted here, here is my take on the store: Yes it's new, clean and organized. The times I've been in the store I was greeted multiple times by employees who spoke English wonderfully and offered assistance without asking. Big Lots is not even comparable to a TJ Maxx since they both offer different merchandise and target a specific customer. Big Lots gives Target and Wal-Mart some competition, but not TJ Maxx! Now that that's out of the way, here are some helpful hints when shopping here. Always check the expiration dates on the food items purchased here as they may expire within a couple months of purchase. The inventory can be a little inconsistent since they are selling some name brands at a discount, so if you see something you like stock up right then. Everything has a price attached to it, so there is no wondering about "how much it costs." A shopping rewards card is offered. This review is for the staff. We went to big lots to try out some furniture and while doing that I set down my purse and left it there. When I called them about 20 minutes later they had already found it and were so helpful in trying to help me identify it. We came in and got it and nothing was gone. I bought patio furniture here 5 days ago and today I saw online that the price dropped by 40%. They refuse to honor their own price difference. I think this is outrageous. Also, their online price when I originally bought the items showed 416.99 for a 3 piece set, however in the Germantown store they said it was 699.99 for a larger set and they would not sell the 3 pieces that were advertised online. ( the Gaithersburg store had a different answer...maybe they should get together and agree with the same points?) When I showed the manager the price online and their own site said they WOULD sell only 3 pieces for 416.99 he had to sell it to me as advertised...now the price for the SAME 3 pieces is 233.00, when I paid 416.99 only 5 days ago....Stay away if you value honesty, integrity,customer service, and fairness...I know what kind of store this is, closeouts, however that should not have anything to do with price fairness for their own items. I am not asking them to match another retailer's price, I am asking them to match their own price. UPDATE TO MY REVIEW......Just want noted, that I sent an email to corporate and they thought my issue was with the Gaithersburg store and sent them a message. 5 minutes after I received the email from them telling me they would contact the manager the manager from Gaithersburg (Germantown did not get in touch btw) called me personally to apologize for what they said was indeed a vague company policy, but that they always did the right thing for the customer, and did have several other calls about the same issue, and they obliged and refunded the huge difference in price to me of 195.00(!!!!)...no small price adjustment...Kudos to the Gaithersburg BigLots, they have me as a customer from now on! I Love the store it is so neat and convenient I shop there at least once a week. But I am really considering not shopping there anymore, there is this old rude lady I think she Spanishwith glasses that's always on cash register. She has the worst customer service skills she never says hi or smiles at you she makes you feel like she's doing you a favor by ringing your stuff up. I absolutely love Big Lots. I've always had such a positive experience walking in here. Ray is by far my favorite employee :) My fiancé and I purchased our couch there and he was the one who helped us. Super nice and friendly. This store is so convenient because they sell literally everything. I love shopping here for home decor stuff, they have tons of wall decor for such a cheap price. Only downside is that when I've gone only 1 cash register has been open, it would make it a little easier and quicker if they opened at least two. Other than that, I love and will continue to come to Big Lots. Ps: I moved into the area about a month ago and have came here about 80 times already lol. read more

This review is for anyone looking for employment at Big Lots. The store management at first will offer an abundance of hours when you are new, but don't be surprised when the hours are cut soon after. Example, I used to get 25 minimum, then it got cut to 12 hours or less. Big Lots is known to have a skeleton staff, so don't be surprised if there are 3 people working in the store, this absolutely exhausts their employees. Management ALWAYS disappears in the store, goes for a cigarette break, which is why it takes a while for them to come to the front when they are needed ( this explains why there's only one cashier from time to time). It's very difficult to get a 15 minute break. By the way, management tells you that if they interrupt your 15 minute break, they'll start it over, that is ABSOLUTELY not true, you'd be lucky if management even says you can go on your break. Management definitely has their certain favorites in the store, you'll see it should you be employed at this location. By the way, starting rate is 8 dollars an hour, not matter how experienced you are, management of course is paid different. Managers typically don't work at Big Lots for more than 6 months to a year, hints how badly employees are treated. From personal experience, the employees seem happy, but this is for show, there's a different story outside of work. People call out everyday and still manage to keep their job, all because management doesn't want to fire them and deal with the paperwork, go figure. I am so pleased that they opened a Big Lots in Milestone Shopping Center. I think the layout of the electronics department could be a little bit different vs. being chucked in the corner I think they are losing a ton of revenue because of it. Baby Items and Cosmetics, etc should be housed in the same department and well as the candles...perhaps moving televisions, and higher ticketed items in a more central location (it was one of those I did not know this was even there moments). The signage in the furniture department needs to be revamped I came in looking for twin headboards and I was told to come back. I am little puzzled by the store hours too since the anchor stores and competition have much earlier hours an longer hours on the weekend particularly on Sunday's. I came there this past weekend and noticed quite a bit of potential customers pulling up and guess what we got we're closed...we close at 7 p.m. read more
