Ollies sits right off of Ellsworth in the city of Ypsilanti. Ollie's has some of everything, from…read moreclothes to carpeting to food to snacks to cleaning products to even some outdoor devices and material. It is a great place to go to just get something at a bargain. Some of the stuff is just knickknacks but some of the stuff you can get presents a real bargain. On this particular visit I went here to find large planting pots. They had a variety of planting pots: some small, some medium-sized, some large. I needed the large ones and they gave some large ones at a decent price in comparison to other places. I grabbed a few containers and a few snacks and was on my way. However as I was leaving, I found that one of the ceramic pots had a crack so I went back into the store and they gladly swapped it out for me without any hassle. Ollie's is a great place to go if you like going to a store that has a variety of things to offer on a smaller scale than some other stores. It's not overcrowded. You're typically in and out in no time. Plus there are bargains to be had at the Ollie's location. I will check it out again whenever I have a need to get some other items at a bargain.

The only time I have been in this mall before this trip was before the pandemic when I arrived in town having forgotten my Apple Watch charger at home. We went straight from DTW to the Apple store here, purchased one and left. We had time to look around on this trip as we had promised our granddaughter a trip to the mall on a rainy Sunday. As we walked in, I had an overwhelming sense of recognition of a store attempting to pass as a Nordstrom, a brand that we lost at home a few years ago during a downsizing event, leaving Colorado, my home state, with just one store left, and in Denver. The layout was so similar, I could find particular categories of goods at a glance. Even the rack choices were the same, the signage fonts too. Each area had a formally dressed staff member, waiting for customer questions, often with their hands held at their sides. And always smiling, not unlike statues. I had worked in a different company and in Colorado years ago in retail management but with a more casual engagement sales model. If no customers actively in sight, my staff always found things to do, arranging sizes or colors of items that had been moved out of place on a busy day. I also noticed that the prices here seemed far more affordable than I usually saw in Nordstrom's. The other thing I noticed was that I did not recognize most of the brand names and the feel of the fabrics was of a lower quality. I did not see styles that would have been expected in Colorado and not surprising as I had never shopped in the Midwest. Regional differences are very real. My granddaughter and my husband wandered over to the children's department, not to look for clothes but for a fun object and she found some trendy Squishables, one of which she convinced her grandfather to purchase for her. It was purple and came in a box, is the only description I can offer. But you really could squish into anything you wanted. It made her happy and that's what counts. If I lived in town here, I cannot imagine that I would come here again. You'd probably find me over at the REI store where I have shopped in the past, even for dresses! I once found one in my size when here on an earlier visit, which was sold out at both my home REI and their Seattle warehouse. I promptly bought it and I still have it though it no longer fits. It's one of those things that never goes out of style, is beautiful quality fabric and well-constructed. I am wearing it in my profile picture in the "Hiking at Boulder Falls" picture from a few years back. I am still hoping that someday it will fit again. I'm glad I saw this place so I can really appreciate regional differences and I will say, when I actively engaged staff, they were very polite.

Their clothes selection could be better but I was quite pleased with their purse variety and rings…read more I spent a long time looking through all the racks for the rings. I wish they were organized with rings on one rack instead of mixed with earrings. And it would have been more helpful if it was organized fully by size. I looked at Marshall's purses, DSW's purses, and Ross' and Nordstrom Rack had the best selection! It's helpful to look at the purses in person because I was SO close to purchasing a name brand online but when I looked in person, I keep forgetting how heavy they are! I liked the brand Thatcher. It was half the price of the name brands and the material is water proof and soft. Very happy with my purchase!
