If you have minor vision issues, by all means go here. I am currently wearing glasses that work from them, as are my two daughters. With that said, if you suspect anything serious or have a young child then please keep as far away as possible. My son started to complain about color distortions and was getting really close to the screen of the TV, computer, etc. He also had mentioned that maybe he needs glasses, this was at 9 years old. We brought him to see Dr. Moore; the eye refractor spit out a very low prescription (prescription not necessary) and when the Dr. saw my son he did the standard test (this vs. this, which is better) and the results were all over the board terrible. Dr. Moore stated: "Kids do this all the time, seeking attention, there is nothing wrong with his eyes and I won't waste your time with glasses". We let Dr. Moore know of what we were seeing, his vision issues, his color complaints, etc. and Dr. Moore pulled out a color-blind page and said: "What number?"; my son squinted and said the number. Dr. Moore replied: "Nothing wrong." About 15 minutes of discussions and Dr. Moore had us convinced. We left believing our son was begging for attention; his sight appeared to continue getting worse over the next 6 months so we went back to Dr. Picard who ended saying: "Something isn't right, but it is probably neurological, you need to bring him to a neurologist." Fast forward about 1 year, and random pointless appointments, we've moved to Sweden. The first thing we did is get a Doctor's appointment. They referred us to an opthalmologist who said: "There are big gaps in both eyes, at the exact position his cones and rods should be; I can see this clearly and easily, I'm surprised that Doctors in the US couldn't". He referred us to an expert for Children who said: "It looks like a genetic disorder that affects his vision, we need to do tests"; 2 weeks later we are at the Kid's Eye Clinic doing a first swath of tests. They concur and order electro-retinographs which are set for 1 week from today. The doctor says it is likely a cone-rod dystrophy disorder that will lead to blindness and while it is not treatable, catching it early is very important for quality of life; aids in education; and limiting stuff that could progress it. So my big shout-out to Costco Medical is that they shouldn't be licensed to look at children and I wouldn't recommend anyone bring their children there. The job of an opthalmologist is to help maintain eye health and look for reasons of unhealthiness; twice the doctors there failed me, and Dr. Moore called my son a liar and even somehow convinced me (to my own self-loathing) that my son was doing it for attention. I've been buying my progressive glasses from the Costco optical department in Silverdale since I moved back to WA. I got just got a new prescription from a local optometrist that has always worked for me, and took my prescription to Costco and picked up the new pair on 09/09/23. The new pair are killing my eyes so I'm back to wearing my old scratched up pair until I can figure out what to do. I'm extremely bummed because this has never happened. My glasses have always been perfect from Costco. I have been putting up with the new glasses for about two weeks to see if it's just my eyes adjusting to the new prescription but nope they are not getting any better. And, I have to say during my visit to pick up the new pair the girls, with their backs to me, were making fun of me because I used a little too much of hairspray that morning and the front of my hair was kind of stiff and I do admit it was a bad hair day. They tried to get me to keep putting my head down to shake my head to see if the glasses would come off and I realized it was because they wanted to see if my hair would move. I thought that was kind of weird until I realized they were messing with me. I made the comment that I had used a lot of hair spray that morning and they started laughing and one girl started to say "yea that's what we were" and then she stopped. Ok, so my hair sucked that morning but if you're going to make fun of your customers do it on your break or after work and have a good laugh. I makes me not want to go back into them and maybe have my glasses made somewhere else. read more

Avoid Costco Optical for progressive lenses! I wanted a backup pair of glasses when I got my new prescription. I bought another pair at a private optometrist's office that work perfectly for distance, computer work, and reading--but the Costco lenses only worked for distance. (Full disclosure: the optometrist pair was for Silhouette, and the lenses alone were twice what I paid for my Costco frames and lenses.) When I returned to Costco, the staff said that sometimes their progressive lenses do not work for all people--that the Costco lenses have a smaller vision field, apparently for each distance. They checked the lenses, which I appreciated, but they could only offer a replacement pair of distance lenses (with a corresponding reduction in price), or to issue me a refund. But I did not want to be without a backup pair, and I was afraid the new lenses might be worse than what I had. My only complaint is that if Costco had let me know in advance that their progressive lenses do not work for everyone, then I would not have used them. I'm very disappointed. It's a old lesson: you get what you pay for! Costco progressive lenses just aren't the best. read more

I treasure Philip for helping with selection and proper fit of two new pair of eye glasses. My complicated ophthalmic doctor's order has proven too much for some previous providers. Not Costco. Fantastic frames and startlingly complex fitting skills for my optimal corrected vision and comfort. The lab work and refinement of ocular clarity astonish me. Spectacular experience. Since ophthalmologists have surrendered to using poorly qualify help for their offices I've migrated permanently to Costco. Thanks Philip. read more

My husband and I have used Costco optical for many years and feel that Dr Picard does a professional, comprehensive eye exam. We have absolutely no complaints about him . What I want to know is what happened to the nice professional helpful office staff? Today we showed up for our appointments at the scheduled times.We we're informed that someone had called and canceled my husbands appointment. She was very flustered and asked if I could come back in a few minutes. When I returned the other staff woman approached me and I began to ask her for an update on the situation, she very rudely said pointing to her co worker, she is helping you NOT me , I'm very busy. I turned to the other woman and said I could tell they were very busy and that my husband and I preferred to have appointments back to back because of our long drive to get there and the ease of coming in together to pick up our glasses. She was so confrontational, rude, and upset that I would dare cancel my appointment! She said with anger that she would squeeze my husband in as soon as they could. Sorry, we don't want to be squeezed in. I will make another appointment. Well FINE! That's entirely up to you! i couldn't wait to get out of there! As I see in the reviews Costco is a great place to shop and they always take care of their customers but in this case of the optical department it was a very bad experience. The first time we were there to get the glasses they were very helpful and courteous. After receiving the glasses that person was very rude trying to fit them to my wife's face and they never did fit right and we told him that she was having a hard time even seeing through them. We left in disgust with the person at the counter and I will never go back to Costco Optical again. After a $40 discount we spent $240 for two pairs of glasses and she has never used them since we purchased them. I see in the reviews there are some problems with the lenses being ground that other people have had. I guess we were are one of these people that the lenses were not ground right. Since that experience my wife went in for surgery and corrected her vision but Costco glasses were a waste of money. read more

I never thought I would ever whisper a foul word about Costco, but today they deserve it. It's a sad day when WalMart has better customer service than Costco. I say that because a couple years ago I got some glasses at WalMart and they scratch way too soon so I took them back and with no hassle at all they replaced them and the second pair never scratched. I think the first pair didn't have the protective coating on them. This time when I need glasses I go to Costco. They cost me almost $300 so I was a bit shocked at the price, since it was more than I spent at WalMart a couple years ago, but who knows, maybe with the price of oil going up or the metal in the frames, wait a minute, I supplied the frames. Anyway, after 3 months the lenses are so scratched I can hardly see through them. I have not treated them any different than the ones I had from WalMart. So I take them back in to Costco and I get a big "NO! We don't warranty against scratches. Only manufacturers defects for one month." I was told they give such a good price that they can't fix anything that may go wrong. I gave them two stars instead of one because the gal was cute and she was nice when she gave me the sad news. I will be going back to WalMart from now on I guess. UPDATE: I received a call from Costco Optical and they said they heard I was having problems with my glasses. I told them what happened and the manager told me to bring them in. It was explained this was not their normal policy, but they would make an exception this time. So with no more hassles I was able to get my glasses replaced. I'm happy again with Costco. read more

As happy as I am over all with Costco I had a bad experience with their optical department about 15 years ago. I brought my daughter in and paid for an eye exam for her. The dr there recommended glasses for her. At her next eye exam I was told that because she was put in glasses and not contacts some of her vision that could have been corrected was now permanent and in one eye she would never have perfect vision as glasses can only do so much. I had no idea I was taking my daughter to a place that was going to Mis diagnose her vision needs. I don't see an issue filling a vision prescription but I won't use their doctors now. It's sad she has permanent vision issues now that cannot be corrected due to my misplaced trust and just not knowing any better. For this reason I give this place just two stars and honestly that's high considering what happened. read more

I tried Costco, for the first time, as my new eye wear provider. The first time we went there, we asked a young woman about...she cut us off and told us to get a number. Got the number, got called, got the same woman as we asked to make an appointment with the optometrist. She told us we didn't have to wait in line for that, we could just go to the Drs. office, and she pointed. I told her that would have been nice to know before we were told to get a number. A few weeks later, we had our appointment, and, unfortunately, got Dr. Moore. I couldn't believe how unfriendly he was.He even snipped at me a few times. After the exam, I still had to take a number to get assistance with my eye glass purchase. I understand that, I do, but there were 4 employees standing around, and two other customers. Finally got to sit down with Heather. She is a doll, and I even told her about how unfriendly the doctor was. She apologized on his behalf. I think this will be my last time getting my glasses here. Walmart is cheaper. read more
