I feel in order to be fair I need to first say that their food is good. It's nothing amazing but it is a good quality place to eat in town. Having said that, I feel like 8 bucks for a salad with .2 oz of steak is hardly justifiable. I'm sure that means their margins are great but the quantity of food supplied for the money given is hardly fair. Even when asking for extra meat and hearing the customary, "It will be an extra $1.99", I wonder how and extra bite full of steak is worth two bucks. The place is clean and fairly well kept up. Always busy and plan to wait for 20 minutes before being able to eat after entering the doors. All in all, if you are looking for flavor and a good clean place, then welcome. If you are looking for more food for your buck, the authentic Mexican place down the road has both quantity and quality. read more

It's really only a mediocre place. I used to love it, but it's going down hill. Every time we go the lines out the door, and there is only one person at the register and two or three people behind the counter making the food. It usually can take 20-30 minutes to get your food. That alone makes it not worth it in my book considering how much they have started to skimp on their food. You would think that with the line being out the door all the time that the food must be great, but mostly it is just because there is not much to eat in Rexburg period. If you want more authentic Mexican food the Taco Bus or Ramiez is a better choice. Their hot sauce is below mild in heat, and their other sauces are much to fruity to combine with the sweetness of the rest of the food. They give you the same amount of guac with a small nacho as they do with a large and half the time they are out of it. I have paid the same price for nachos that Costa Vida charges at places in California and have gotten 10 times better quality and larger portions (enough to easily feed 4 people). I can hardly believe that they think they can charge $1 for a burrito to be smothered. Coming from California that is a pretty standard thing at Mexican restaurants without being charged extra. Like I said the foods mediocre at best. The environment is fun, loud, energetic, and the staff, even though very understaffed, they are usually very nice and accommodating. read more

Pricey, but the sweet pork quesadilla is BOMB! I usually get the works (guac, sour cream, & pico) which is extra but it's so worth it. The only problem I've had was when they were busy...the lady boxed up my order before I got a chance to ask for the works...I was pissed. This place makes me miss Bajio. After all the rave reviews and the lines out the door I was thinking this place was going to be great. However, they left a lot to be desired. I ordered a bean burrito, and it's telling that they don't call it a bean burrito but a "vegetarian" burrito. I realized, as they were assembling the burrito, that they were using the skimpiest portion of refried beans in the history of Mexican food. Seriously, they were treating the beans as if they were infused with 24-carat gold dust or something. In fact, I almost laughed as I watched, because I thought surely it was a joke. They then asked if I'd like to "smother" the burrito for a little extra. "What do you mean?" "We'll put sauce and cheese on top for a dollar more." This time my disbelief was too strong and I did have to chuckle. "Wait, so sauce on the top is not included?" Let's keep in mind this is a five dollar bean burrito we're talking about. That's a tortilla, beans, rice, a dab of sauce and a sprinkle of cheese. That's it. At the old Bajio I could order the same bean burrito for five dollars and get it stuffed to bursting with refried beans and rice and it included a side order! I decided to order some chips and salsa as a side. They offered me three choices in salsa. Mild, medium and hot. I chose medium and hot. The burrito was a bland, mostly taste-free experience. I liked the sauce but there was very little of it, and I didn't taste any refried beans at all. For the first time in a long time I actually still felt hungry after that thing. The salsa was fresh, which was pleasant, but mostly tasteless. The only flavor it had was sweetness, as though someone had poured sugar into it. There was little to no heat, not even with the so-called "hot" variety. In summation: Overpriced, small portions, and bland. Pretty much sums up most local places in Rexburg. read more

I went here with a high recommendation. I was excited to try some of the food they offer. I had been told they put so much on your plate that it is enough for the next days lunch as well. I went in and ordered the shredded beef burrito. If you are looking to cut calories, then eat here. They skimp on the fillings. When the girl put the cheese on that I had been told all about ("you get so much cheese!"), it was literally her scraping the bottom of an empty container and sprinkling what was left onto my burrito. You get more cheese on a dollar burger at McDonald's. I also ordered two drinks. I was anticipating the horchata. When we got to the drink, it was nearly empty. When I told the blonde girl at the register (I think she might have even been the assistant manager), she looked at me as if I was stupid and said: "there's still some left." I went ahead and got a cup full. If you are going for the cinnamon challenge, that's one way to do it. It was terrible. And my boyfriend only got half a cup. His was even worse. I let another member of the staff know they were out, and they didn't seem to care at all. Needless to say, the drink ended up down the drain where it belonged. Way overpriced for the quality/amount you get. Good thing we are in Rexburg. It is a small town, so they can get away with it. I would suggest taking your money elsewhere. read more

This place isn't as good as I expected we went there our food was just ok the quality was subpar the taste was subpar. The pulled pork I had in my burrito tasted weird. The only reason I can't give Costa 5 stars is because the wait times are HORRENDOUS. The food on the other hand is quite the opposite. The sweet pork is excellent and portions are rather large. The enchiladas are great and if you choose to go the burrito route make sure you order it "smothered" or it can be pretty dry. If you save room for dessert try the tres leches. Currently living in CA and have yet to find a tres leches that beats this one. Be prepared for big crowds, a loud atmosphere, but some really good food. Also don't be hesitant to grab a staff member if your table needs wiped down, so many people are in and out of here they tend to miss one every once in a while. read more

It's like our Seinfeld coffee shop, our Friends Monica's apartment, our HIMYM bar, if you will. We always come here to talk and enjoy GREAT food. We also always get the same things: Steak Deep Dish Nachos and 2 Sweet Pork Deep Dish Nachos. These are to die for!!! Place is good !! Everything tasted fresh. It's not authentic but it is good. I personally love the quesadillas and there beans are cooked well, meaning they are not hard. It has always been clean during the times I have gone. All the employees looked clean and were very nice during my visits. The food here is great. My favorite is the smothered chicken burrito it's dang good and huge. That being said the line is always long and slow moving. I feel like when they are making my food I always feel rushed and they assume way to much. They ask if you want something added while they are adding it. My husband and I went here excited, expecting it to be like Cafe Rio. I was very disappointed in the service, stressful atmosphere, and food. Service: I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but my experience there was much less than satisfactory. They messed up several orders in the time I was in line, got dishes out of order. They asked if we wanted sour cream, along with salsa, etc., without ever informing us the sour cream would cost extra. Overall, it seemed like all the employees were way too stressed and confused. Atmosphere: my husband and I planned to have a nice night out, but quickly decided to get the food to go. The place is very dark, crowded, and overly noisy. If I could describe the environment with one word, I would say stressful. Food: overall, not bad. But I was certainly disappointed. I got a sweet pork salad, and my husband got a sweet pork burrito. Both of us got a VERY small amount of meat... They were practically vegetarian. The tortillas also could be better. The food is obviously the best part, but they could do way better. I was craving burritos but Ramires and and Gringos were closed so I went here. Worst choice I have ever made. I ordered what I wanted and payed $6 and ate it. First two bites were good but then I started actually tasting it and I instantly felt like I needed to throw up. The beans tasted like salt and paste and the cheese was extra sharp or about to expire. I couldn't finish it. Food is ok thing is went there with my wife next day we both got sick and bad so thought it was just us, couple months later we went as a group of 4 couples (8 ppl) food was ok four days later we got all got together again and slowly we all started asking how we felt the next comes out that everyone got food poisoning! I look at all the recommendations on here and think where did mine go wrong. Actually, the food isn't bad. It's not that good, either. It's not authentic Mexican. It's a chain of stores that sells the same stuff as other chain Mexican restaurants. There's not a lot of cheese to be seen on my nachos, or when I ask for sweet pork on my burrito, I should get more than a tablespoon. It's also not cheap in my opinion. $8 for a small nacho and drink? Really? $11 for a burrito and small drink? Really? If I'm paying that much, they shouldn't skimp on the toppings and the food should be better than the cheap joint down the road. :( read more

I absolutely LOVE Costa Vida and it is probably the only place in Rexburg that I might want to eat out. However, they are SUPER slow.... always. In the evenings (especially weekends) there is almost always a line/wait, which is fine, but the girls working here need some training from a location that can make the line move (Meridian, Idaho location is awesome and they are FAST). I have had two experiences recently where I called to place an order "To-Go" (to avoid waiting in line). Both times I have been told to "call back in 45 minutes" because they were "too busy" to even take my order over the phone. The second time I was told this I was pretty annoyed (the line had been busy while I was trying to get through) and the girl on the phone was unsympathetic but very clearly overwhelmed. Poor business. Wait aside, the food is good (although they skimp on things in comparison to other locations) and is great for the price (we do the student special with a drink). read more

I have celiac disease and costa vida is my favorite! They take great care to avoid cross contamination and never need to be asked to change their gloves. Really good food at a fair price. Although if you go at night or on Saturday you may be standing in line waiting to order for awhile, but its kinda worth it. I have Celiacs, meaning that I can't have wheat. And Costa Vida is probably the only place that I know that can make my entire meal gluten free! I LOVE COSTA VIDA but the one in Rexburg sucks! They nickle and dime everything and skimp on meat. They are a hassle with everything. They do the surveys unless you're unhappy and then they tear it off and don't give it to you with your receipt. I'm hoping it's just this location that's awful because I used to go there about 3 times a week. Now I don't go ever. It's really disappointing.
