Well... They were busy... We went in and stood in line for a loooooing time. People were moving, but not a lot of doing. It's ok, I get it. It's college kids serving college kids, so it was not shocking that there wasn't much engagement. But the service wasn't great. The serving area was pretty messy and could use some one to clean things up. Out of sweet pork, out of guac... In the end, I got a grilled chicken salad. Not bad. Chips and Queso had an insane portion of chips, great job... The hatch chili salsa got added to the salad to finish off the flavor... It was good. All in all, this location needs some polish to really make it worth going here over the competitor. Not a terrible experience, but, I probably will go somewhere else next time. read more

Today I had dinner here. I quickly became rather off and sick to my stomach later. I threw up for over an hour. I don't know if it was my water or one of my food items but something made me very sick. As I write this I'm still feeling off read more

Honestly, have gone there in the past and the food has been great, but the service has not been so optimal. For instance, tonight when I went, I had an online order for 5:20 PM and I waited for over an hour and a half. I believe I got my order at 7 PM during that time I talked to the employees most of them were pretty nice, but couple of them were exceptionally rude and they ran out of the guacamole and chips which I had paid for on my online order and I paid for more expensive meat online and I asked for a refund for both and they only gave me the refund for the guacamole and chips. read more

0/5 stars. Showed up at 9:20, waited in line for 30+ minutes, never seen a Cafe Rio take orders so slowly. Made it to the front of the line then got turned away at 9:55. A worker screamed at everybody "EVERYONE IN THE BACK OF THE LINE WE ARE NOT TAKING ANY MORE ORDERS WERE CLOSED FOR THE NIGHT." Seriously?? read more

They need to have a stricter hiring process. Employees in the back look like fantastic employees. Every time I go the employees assembling and taking orders are genuinely so bad it's kinda funny to me. There's this older guy who needs some joy. I've seen multiple reviews about him. Almost all the 1 star are about the employees up front taking orders so I know I'm not alone. I pray the older guy is not the manager or owner because if he is that's the issue, if not well... definitely I don't ever recommend firing, but I'd definitely recommend sitting him down and telling him to shape up. My experience with him was that he was trying to push customers through as fast as possible at all customer service cost. He spoke so quickly I genuinely had no idea what he was asking me and so I kept having to ask him to repeat and he was lowkey getting so frustrated. Sorry about the bad review bro, but it needs to be addressed read more

Worst customer service EVER!!! The restaurant had boxes stacked up on the side of the food prepping area. The tables and chairs were all over the place. One of the employees yelled out "at 9:55 we are going to stop serving food!" When I got up to order, they turned me and everyone who was behind me away. They lost at least $300 worth of sales. Rexburg Cafe was awful! I would recommend to anyone and everyone to NOT go to the Rexburg Cafe Rio! read more

Consistently they mess up my order when I order ahead. Today was the last straw! My wife found a live beetle in her salad (after they messed up our orders). We will not be coming back, this is absolutely disgusting and we came specifically today when there were not busy so there is not excuse for this neglect and lack of cleanliness! read more

I'm from Utah and so I can confirm when I say this is a very poor trained one with college students pretty much running the place. First I get there and I'm second in line but it does take forever to get to me. Second, their portion sizes are a lot smaller compared to everywhere else I've been in Utah. Third, the girl went to put toppings for my salad...but didn't even put the lettuce on it and I had to say "umm...lettuce" She proceeded to put 5 pieces of lettuce and asked me if that was good I had to ask her to put more on it. I genuinely don't think she understood that I ordered a salad or something. Then when they get me my dressing that's included with it, they gave me a 2 oz dressing and I know that it's supposed to come with a 4 oz dressing so when I said "isn't it supposed to come with a 4 oz dressing they looked at my all confused. I was excited to finally get out of there but then I go to fill up my drink and there is no nice. Very disappointed but it's across the street from BYU so what can you expect. read more

I feel like all chain restaurants let me down eventually. Once that happens, the only thing that brings me back is if someone I want to eat with insists on eating at one of their locations. That's what happened here. I loved Cafe Rio when i first discovered it on a trip to UT about a decade ago. They eventually arrived in my former home state of WA and, as many good restaurants do when they come to WA, their quality and service took a pretty pronounced plunge downward. I rarely have eaten there the past several years but I was in town dropping a couple of my kids off at school and I had the opportunity to grab lunch with my cousin who was there as well. She wanted Cafe Rio and I agreed to meet her there. All it takes is one good experience to bring you back. It's happened with me so many times with Red Robin, I've lost count. I think their recent decision to get rid of my favorite burger and the fact that I no longer live in the state of their origin probably signals the end of that relationship but my meal at this Cafe Rio location was very good and they may have gotten me back. The food was fresh and tasty, the service was friendly and fast and this location actually empties their garbage cans, unlike their Lynnwood, WA location. One persistent complaint I have with Cafe Rio is their refusal to do substitutions without charging you but I just ordered a salad on this visit and had no subs. I guess I'll try one of their locations in my new home town in NV and see if the quality holds up but these guys are a credit to the organization. read more

I love Cafe Rio, but you would think after how many times I have been there and ordered the same thing, and every single time they tell me they are out of steak, they would make more steak! Honestly, my family and I have been trying to go back to cafe Rio every so many months since they opened, hoping that maybe someone will eventually be trained well at this cafe Rio, but this specific restaurant is the worst I've been to in the chain. They're always completely out of their food (we order online) and they don't tell you until you go to pick it up. This last experience I went while all the students were out of town, there was literally no one else in the dining area, four workers and when I showed up for my take out, they didn't have any idea I had an order in. I showed up 5 minutes after it was supposed to be ready. And even though there were four people, only one person prepared my 6 tacos, beans, rice, and then extras. I waited 15 minutes. They couldn't print me off a receipt because they said their computer that prints them wasn't working. --so much for filling out it a survey. The chicken for the tacos was crumbling because it was so dry. The tortilla didn't stay together at all because it was also dry, my fillings fell out--which normally with sweet pork tacos (once again, I ordered different kinds) it is juicy enough that the tortilla is soggy, but this was so dry it just fell apart completely. We paid extra for some dressing and figured out it never made it into the bag. They gave me my bag and only said sorry once (at the very end), I almost didn't get my drink, had to remind them. Honestly, skip rexburg's cafe Rio. If you really want it, go to Idaho Falls', or better yet, go to Costa Vida in Rexburg. I think after years of trying to give this cafe Rio a chance, we are done trying. Also. If you don't take my disgruntled review, just look at the 2.5 star rating from almost 70 reviews at the time I'm sharing this. read more

Fine, - - IF YOU WANT TO PAY PEOPLE TO SERVE YOU FOOD BUT YOU END UP HAVING TO BUILD IT YOURSELF. At the Rexburg Cafe Rio, they served me my two tacos with the salsa, lettuce, and cotija cheese piled on the side. The only thing inside the tortillas was meat and shredded cheese. WTF???? read more

Café Río is great, but this specific location is pretty bad. I've given it 3 chances and it's disappointed me every time. My last experience was the straw that broke the camel's back. Everything from blatant food safety issues to rude employees that straight-up ignored customers and then gave them attitude when they were done chit-chatting with their coworkers. Here in Rexburg, just stick with Costa Vida. The food, customer service, and store cleanliness is all a million times better than Cafe Rio. read more

I have lived in Rexburg for years and have never had good experiences with this location. Why is this the epicenter of Taco Tuesday? I sincerely don't get it, there are much better places in town to get a taco, burrito, or enchilada. Places where you can actually taste the meat because it's not drenched in sugary brown sauce. It's not a terrible place to eat, it's just extremely overrated in my opinion. All I can taste is sauce and sauce and sauce and sad, mushy pico. I think if there was a bigger emphasis on the taste of the meat and an ammendment of the pico issue, then this place would be worthy of its fame. The salads are the best menu item in my opinion. read more

Right now there is a coupon for bogo burrito or salad so it makes sense that they are super busy. But I didn't understand why they were so backed up at the cash register. I would suggest figuring out a way to speed that process up. My husband and I both got the pork salad with black beans but because of some confusion and not paying attention they ended up giving us someone else's order. I think there is some lack in communication when it comes to to-go pick up orders and dine in orders. My salad was good, it had a good amount of meat and it's always too much food for me to finish. I don't think I'll come back to this location though. Just too busy read more

This spot used to be my favorite. I ate there every day a few years ago. The employees were fast, friendly, and competent. I've been there twice since I wrote my last review about how these things are no longer true. That was over a month ago, and I went only because I had a gift card to spend. Today, there were only 6 people ahead of me, and it took me over 20 minutes to get my food. In the space of that time, all three people I interacted with got something wrong on my order, and only the girl at the cashier didn't seem upset to be there. I won't be returning, and I invite everyone to come to costa vida with me from now on. It's better in every respect, which breaks my heart. read more

I love cafe Rio and have since I moved here three years ago, but things have changed with it recently. Maybe it's just on taco Tuesdays, but the last two times we have gone here, it has taken over an hour to receive our food. Both were pick-ups placed hours ahead of time and when I would arrive to pick up, no food yet, you'll have to wait. Now, we order delivery and our guy has to wait thirty minutes past when the food was to be ready. Then, after that thirty minutes (when the order was placed an hour and a half ago) they tell him it will be an additional fifteen minutes for part of our order to be ready because they just ran out of something. Seriously? Then when we got the food, they forgot one of our sides and still charged us. Still love the food, but just not worth it.... read more

Their menu reminds me of In N Out meaning that it's simple, but not too many choices (quicker decisions), and each choice is tasty. There setup reminds me of Subway. You pick your main dish, but then you can ass whatever you'd like, given their ingredients choices. I always order their Tortilla Salad, with shredded pork. So good. Some people may not like lettuce with meat, but I think it tastes pretty good haha. They also have a house sauce and that sauce has a tiny kick. I'm pretty I've gone here at least once a month since January . And make sure to get their 30min before an actual lunch/dinner rush because it packs up quick. The longest I've waited in line/while ordering was 35min. read more

I love Cafe Rio, it's one of my favorite chain restaurants, but ever since it has grown the quality of the food at some locations has just gone down hill. The pork here was very dry and tasteless compared to what it normally was. I think this Cafe Rio is great. You can tell that things are fresh and prepared daily. (Freshness of ingredients is very important to me.) Their meat is always tender and well-cooked which is also super important to me. I pretty much always get their salads. When it comes to the staff, they're very friendly and do their best to get you in and out of the line. Some days are slower than others but most of the time it's fine. The manager is also really nice and helpful! I, personally, have never been bothered by the atmosphere of the place. It's a nice place to hang out with your friends or family considering the dining space is shared with 3 other restaurants. I usually get mine to-go anyways unless I'm there with friends. Overall, I think it's a great place! read more

I ordered pickup through the app today and I got two tacos with extra cheese (I paid the extra $1.50 cause I love cheese), extra pico, and double rice no beans. When I went to pick up my order they had given me beans, so I told the girl at the register and she said they'd remake my order right away. Great! She took the receipt over and I watched my new order get made. The girl making my tacos have me a sprinkle of cheese, so I asked, "you saw I ordered extra cheese right?" She said "yeah!" And apparently a sprinkle is a lot of cheese... then I watched to next girl give me lettuce and pico. She put the pico in a small container and I asked if she could put the pico right on the taco. She didn't even acknowledge me and a small container of pico is apparently when qualifies as extra pico. My big take away from my experience today is that the employees here CLEARLY either don't read orders, or just don't care, and I'm not sure which is worse. I even tried looking for my extra cheese and pico in the order that had beans, and you couldn't even see or taste the cheese. As someone who works in the food industry and has cooked at multiple restaurants, this was just appalling. I know that employees here are college students just trying to make some money, not professional chefs, but at least take enough pride in what you do to want to get it right! People are paying you to make them the order that they ask for, a d when you don't get things made the way that they ask, then it's a waste of their money and your time. I really hope management reads this and does something about it. After today, I won't be coming back here for a while, and they lose more customers than me if they keep running things this way. read more

This review is on this Cafe Rio location. This is the worst location I've ever been to. The service is slow and they ran out of guacamole- at a Mexican place. The food just wasn't as high quality as experienced at all other Cafe Rios. In terms of Cafe Rio in general, it's in no way authentic Mexican. It's like an upscale Taco Bell. They offer gigantic burritos, tostadas, quesadillas, etc. They pretty good but nothing outstanding. Addendum: after eating here all three of us feel sick. read more
