I dined solo the two times I can here, both at the bar. The first time I had settled on a virgin mojito but it was just so tart. I had to get a lot of extra syrup to make it drinkable. The bartender at least was very sweet and kept adding to it for me. They had been out of several other drink options unfortunately and this was one of the few non alcoholic options available. The Chilean sea bass dish was flaky on the outside, but it was not fully cooked in the very middle. They did refire it for me at least when I realized. The side was this veggie pea mix, but no starch of any sort. The only thing that allowed it to feel complete was their complimentary bread. That was nice and warm, and had a unique texture, and is very filling. It even came with dips, and I especially liked the olive oil with a sweet type of chili paste. I appreciated they gave me extra bread to finish off my dips. The meal had enough strong points that I thought maybe another night they would step it up after recalibrating from the busy day. Unfortunately the second time I went the food really did not hit the mark at all. The horchata they now had in stock, but it was one of the worst I have had. It just tasted like sweet milk. The ceviche mixto had been recommended to me the first visit, and I wanted something light, so I thought perfect! It was the blandest ceviche. Somehow it had no flavor and some of the fish in there did not taste fresh. The frozen beet decoration was visually interesting, but added nothing to the flavor. I didn't say anything because honestly I was tired, and was like I already had them refire my fish the first time and adjust my drink a bunch...I just was tired and didn't want to become a pain. I at least sat next to a really nice solo diner and had a fun chat. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and they have a small parking lot that doesn't have a fee to park. For the excellent quality of food, the prices are reasonable. Highly recommend a reservation because they get packed. I loved my Feuille de Brick Squash Quesadilla with squash, sweet potato, lorocco flower, and Oaxaca cheese. The Mixto Ceviche was also delicious. My boyfriend loved the pollo and our yucca bread with the garlic oil, citrus butter, and olive oil with basalmic vinegar. My Chicha Morada with purple corn, pineapple, green apple, cloves, cinnamon, and mushroom infused rum was very refreshing. The flourless chocolate tamarind cake was okay. Staff was minimal on a Sunday night (1 waiter, and 1 bartender) so everything was a wait or took time, they definitely need more staff. That's the only negative. read more

We had a great dinner here. We brought our two young kids and staff could not have been more welcoming (def a place better to leave them home ha). Food is fresh and flavorful, prepared quickly. Servers are super attentive and friendly. We ordered the hamachi, shrimp tapa, seabass and rice and beans. Hamachi was sooo good- my favorite part of meal. Luckily Costa had reservations somewhat last minute on a busy holiday week. Only reason was likely because they are still new so be sure to get a reservation earlier go forward since it is a small restaurant. Their cocktails started off the night nicely. Coupled with the tasty dense bread and dips we knew we were in for a treat. In terms of the food you should not miss the Tostada de Carne. Chef's spin on carpaccio was delicious. Also don't miss the side of garbanzo beans with chorizo. Took my mouth right back to Spain. I would skip the ceviche mixto. A little too much going on in this dish and hard to enjoy the ingredients. Lastly, the beef tenderloin "churresco style" was tender and delicious. Again maybe a little too much going on this dish since I wanted the crab to stand out a bit more but regardless a worth while dish to get. Brooke was friendly and the team was great. We saw the chef in the open kitchen which was nice. It would be great if he got around the restaurant when things slow down to meet his guests. read more

We finally made it to Costa tonight. Exceeded our expectations. We have covered pretty much all of Sedona scenes and had been waiting to try Costa. Loved our cocktails, attentive service and delicious food. My hubby finished his entree in no time. The yucca bread that comes free before the meal is mind blowing. The only tiny negative is that the chairs are a little uncomfortable (very low and awkward to lean back in), but not a big deal when you're tasting things you can't find anywhere else. Nice patio night, but that was the best part. We were pushed into ordering drinks (which were forgettable), and our view was the back of a street sign--pretty wild for a city known for scenery. Bread and the appetizer were great. The mains were not: overcooked, bland sea bass (served with peas... really?), and squash quesadillas that clearly sat under a heat lamp--hot plate, sad presentation, almost no flavor. We thoroughly enjoyed the sea bass with coconut mango sauce (crispy one one side and flaky moist inside), beef carpaccio tostada (you have to get this, trust me), and the squash quesadilla was so tasty. SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT! The flourless chocolate and tamarind cake was so yummy with vanilla ice cream and strawberries. The food was amazing... i forgot to take a picture of the Ahi tuna "wong tongs" but they were my absolute favorite. I'm gluten free and they were super knowledgeable about it, and the menu was marked so that was a plus. We were able to get the ahi tuna dish modified to be gluten free. The tostada de carne was amazing, and the ceviche was good and very refreshing! My boyfriend and I both got the Negroni Latino drinks and they were so good! Not one bad thing to say about this place. Costa offers a chic yet cozy ambiance and delivers on quality food and service. We tried the vegetarian, quesadilla, chowder, side of rice and beans (very flavorful), and the seared sea bass. Everything was well-prepared and satisfying. For drinks, we had champagne and a 10-year-old WhistlePig rye (an off-menu item). While the food was top-notch, I'd advise sticking to the menu for drinks. The staff was friendly and attentive, and our server was polite and professional. I'm torn about my feelings about Costa by Madrid. Much of the food we had was good, some misses. Much of the service we had was good, but a bigger miss near the end. As is the theme in Sedona these days, the prices are high and this restaurant, unlike many others, does not have a view. It's a newer place, so maybe they're still working out some of the kinks. We started off with cocktails, the Pisco Sour ($19) for me and the Azul Old Fashioned ($19) for Jim G. We also tasted some wines so we could pair with our food and ended up with a glass of the Vinho Verde ($13) and the Garnacha ($15). We started off with the Ceviche Mixto ($31). This very pricey dish had a lot of elements to it--too many, in fact. It was hard to taste all the components and some of the fish was a bit more fishy than I'd prefer. I would skip this dish, to be honest. Next up was the big winner, the Tostada de Carne ($25). This was a spin on beef carpaccio, with Prime Beef Tenderloin on top of Yucca Tostada with truffle-torchon butter and onion escabeche. I would 100% order this again. It even tasted amazing the next morning! We took Brooke's recommendation to get the Garbanzo Beans with Chorizo Espanol ($12); I didn't love them as much as Jim G. did, but the flavor was nice. We ended with the Beef Tenderloin "Churrasco Style" ($55) which has Crab mojo, Purple Peruvian Potato, and Tomato-Albahaca Chimichurri. The meat was flavored and cooked nicely but the crab was lost in the Tomato Chimichurri. I was also a bit stunned when the bill came and it was $70 instead of $55. When I brought it to Brooke's attention, she said she told her manager to change it, but it was never made clear why it was put as nearly 30% more to begin with. That left us feeling a bit iffy right at the end of our meal. Ultimately, as I said, I'm torn about my experience but will go with 4 stars for much of the preparation and quality of the food and for most of the service we received. read more

Wow! Arrived in Sedona today and checked Yelp and OpenTable looking for a place for dinner. I'm so happy we ended up here. A truly unique culinary experience. We live in Napa and Sacramento and have a wide variety of restaurant options. Costa by Madrid was a refreshing departure from what we usually have. We started with cocktails. We had the Caipirinha and the Pisco Sour. Both excellent. For our meal we shared the Beef Tenderloin "Churasco Style" and the Garbanzo Beans and Spinach with Chorizo Espanol. The meat was cooked to perfection and it was accompanied by an amazing array of potatoes, crab, tomatoes and chimichuri. The flavors were incredible. The side of beans and spinach was hearty and delicious. The chorizo was not overpowering and complemented the main ingredients. For desert we shared the Brazilian Gitano. Delicious. Not to rich and complemented our meal. The staff were incredible. We were served by the hostess, server and bartender and each person was helpful and gracious. An amazing experience. When I'm back in Sedona I'll be back here. read more

This place is a gem!! Don't pass it by if you are in Sedona and like delicious Latin cuisine. We took our server's advice and got the fried shrimp, salad, ceviche mixto and beef tenderloin. All were perfect tapas style dishes for sharing. We were blown away by every dish- all were unique and inventive with extraordinary flavors. For dessert we had the Brazo Gitano (rolled cake with almonds and strawberries served with dulce de leche ice cream). It was to die for!! The staff were all so welcoming and attentive. We would have come back the next day to try some of the other dishes on the menu, but they were closed Tuesday-Wednesday which was the last day for us in Sedona. Bravo!! One of our best culinary experiences in a long time! We only had two nights in Sedona and our visit was perfected by dinner at Costa. After savoring the delightful table bread (GF even, and I never like GF things...) and dips, we moved on through a tapas style meal navigated expertly by Brooke. The corn chowder, salad, garbanzo beans, beef tostada and crispy shrimp...everything was unique, delicious and presented beautifully. We never felt rushed, water glasses were kept full, restroom was super clean - all the little things matter and they nailed it on top of the unforgettable food! Cocktails were delicious. For small plates, portions were large. Food was all very tasty, but the corn chowder and the garbanzo beans were the surprise hits for the evening, both utterly delicious. Kitchen was unusually fast, so talk to your server about pacing if you want a more leisurely experience. This was such a pleasant surprise! My husband and I recently dined her for the first time and were blown away by how good the food was! The venue is small but the atmosphere and ambience is upscale and topnotch. The service is professional and the wait staff is knowledgeable and fun to interact with. The CHICHA MORADA drink was so delicious! House made and full of flavor. We both loved our salad and squash quesadilla. The portion sizes are more European, which we appreciate. That way you can enjoy appetizers, drinks, the meal AND dessert without needing to be wheeled out on a stretcher. The naturally gluten free rolls with lemon butter were fantastic! Was recently visiting Sedona with my sister for a girls' trip and we picked Costa for one of our evening meals. SO glad we did! It will go down as one of my favorite dining experiences ever! The menu is small but is packed with amazing, flavorful dishes - I'm pretty sure you can't go wrong with whatever you order. We shared lobster ceviche, chicharron de Cameron, and the pollo barracho. We also had a side of garbanzo beans with spinach and chorizo that seriously stole the show. I will be dreaming about that side dish for the rest of my life! But I have to mention that the best part of the whole meal was the incredible, fresh, flavorful sauces that accompanied every dish. They were mind blowing and I will never forget how they tied every dish together. Believe me when I say it is worth going just to experience the sauces and flavors that enhance each dish. The space is small snd intimate so I'm sure once the word truly gets out about how amazing this place is, it will be very difficult to get a table here. I'm hoping that I can still get a table here during my next trip to Sedona, because Costa and its sauces was one of the highlights of my trip! read more

Where to start...best food, best service... As locals we sonetimes hesitate to go to a restaurant when it first opens. We were absolutely blown away by the food at Costa. Chef Roberto Madrid has created the most inventive Latin food we have ever had. Items that sound ordinary are here extraordinary. The corn chowder, garbanzo side dish, vegetarian quesadillo are deconstructed in very unique ways. The chicken dish is a marvel. The specialty drinks, while on the pricey side, are mixed with unique ingredients and care. The wine selections from Argentina and Spain were memorable. I usually don't use so many superlatives but this place really made an impression. Jamie, our server, and all the staff very attentive. Kudos! read more

The Beef Tenderloin was one of the best steaks I've had in Sedona. I would gladly come again for the steak before I went to the other big restaurants in Sedona. The bartender Oscar was absolutely fantastic at answering any and all of my questions, while Lizzy was quick to the door with enthusiasm to get us sat. Came here last week to celebrate a friend's birthday and were blown away by both the food and exceptional service. I really appreciate when restaurants understand that you are celebrating something and when we told them it was our friends birthday, they put a lit candle into our dessert-- such a special, thoughtful gesture. The wine list is great-- we all decided to go with different glasses to try and our server was so helpful in telling us about the various wines to try and fit what we may like. The food was top notch-- here's what we ordered for a table of 4, we shared everything: The Chicarron de Cameron (crispy shrimp, delish), the Empanada (so good, especially the dipping sauce underneath), the Hamachi, the Ceviche Mixto (my personal favorite) and the salad. Then, we did the chilean seabass (amazing and the spinach with it was so good) and all of the sides. The garbanzo beans were incredible and highly recommend an order of that. For dessert, we split the brazo gitano and the tamarind cake. The first one was good, but the flourless chocolate cake was out of this world.
