1/5 - Horrible service, ignored requests, and food I could barely eat Our experience at 89Agave was absolutely terrible, from the service to the food. Our waiter had TWO tables--an eight-top and our four-top. That was it. Yet we sat for approximately 20 minutes before he even acknowledged us to take our order. Nearly all of his attention went to the larger table, while we were basically ignored. After finally taking our order, he never came back to check on us once. Not once. I ordered the rolled tacos and was very specific about what I wanted. I asked for anything spicy to be removed and all of the extras to be served on the side. Apparently those requests meant nothing. My tacos came out smeared with the toppings I specifically asked to have on the side and absolutely buried in cilantro. And despite specifically asking for nothing spicy, the meat was so heavily seasoned with whatever spice mixture they use that my mouth was burning. It was complete overkill and made the meal extremely unpleasant for me. And because our waiter never bothered to check on our table, I didn't exactly have an opportunity to tell him there was a problem with my food or have it corrected without trying to track him down. The photo says plenty about the presentation. This is what was brought out after I specifically requested the extras on the side. It looked like everything had simply been piled onto the plate. I understand restaurants get busy. What I don't understand is how a server with only two tables can devote virtually all of his attention to one while completely neglecting the other. Our party of four deserved the same basic level of service as the party of eight. Between waiting 20 minutes just to order, having my very simple food requests ignored, receiving food that was far too spicy for me to comfortably eat, and not being checked on a single time, this was easily one of the worst restaurant experiences we've had. With all of the dining options in Sedona, I can't imagine choosing to spend my money here again. Definitely would not recommend, and we will not be back.
Cute place! Located right on the strip. Came in on our first day in Sedona for a quick bite before our tour. Jocelyn our server was great with helping to speed everything along so we wouldnt be late. We just had salads but if I had more time I would have ordered the street corn and tacos. I have to also be careful with food allergies. Definitely recommend if in Sedona
My family and I were in Sedona for a helicopter ride that my husband purchased. We stayed the night at this great little hotel and decided to go out for dinner. We stumbled upon this place and we are really glad that we did! The appetizers were phenomenal! I gave it four stars because my enchiladas were just OK. I've had better. However, the Elote corn appetizer, and the grilled shrimp were a huge hit with the family! My husband had the shrimp tacos and he loved them. My stepson had fajitas and he thoroughly enjoyed them as well. I tasted the fajita meat and it was delicious! My daughter-in-law had the Carne Asada enchiladas and she thoroughly enjoyed them as well. Our granddaughter had a quesadilla and she liked that too. The service was fantastic and the food was very good! Thanks for having us.
I had high expectations for their food because they came highly recommended by a few locals , but sadly I was not impressed with my entree. I had the birria street tacos with rice and beans . The platter came out looking like the tacos had been microwaved. I was expecting hard shells but they were soft shells seemingly dripped in sauce...The birria was very salty and so was the dipping sauce . The cheese had begun to coagulate when it was cooling down . The beans were tasteless and portions of the rice were hard/uncooked. Maybe this was a one off? Stacey was my server and she was very sweet and attentive . When I left , the hostess seemed to be distracted on her phone and did not look up when I exited. I'm bummed because I was looking forward to a having a memorable meal for my last evening here in Sedona .
This place is a lot roomier than you would think. Patio seating in front or back. Nice ambiance. Service was good. We had fajitas and they were superb. Seriously, really tasty. Bit on the pricey side but what do you expect! It's Sedona. I'd recommend if you want something slightly upscale but still accessible to the little guy.
We had reservations for dinner but were an hour early but still got seated. Great! I had the pork carnitas enchiladas with half green and half red sauce and it was delicious! Came with rice and beans. My vegan friend had the vegetable fajitas, great but too expensive for $27 without any protein. My pear cacti margarita was delicious!! Good service, nice ambiance. Of course parking is a nightmare in Sedona but we were able to score a free spot nearby
89Agave Cantina was a surprise hit during our visit to Sedona. They have a cute outdoor patio and plenty of seating inside. When we visited, a band was playing inside and it was a bit loud so we opted for the patio. My mom ordered the margarita flight and enjoyed most of the tastings. I think there was one that was watermelon mango that was so-so. My sister ordered the prickly pear margarita and loved it. For apps, we ordered the table side guacamole which was delicious. However, we requested no jalapeño but it was still in there. Not a huge deal though. For our entrees, we got the carne asada tacos, enchiladas and tamales. Go with the green sauce on your enchiladas--trust me. We all enjoyed our entrees. Our server was friendly but seemed to completely disappear at times, but still fast service. If you're in Sedona looking for good Mexican, I'd check this place out!
I came here as a group of 4 for a mid-day lunch. The inside had a wall of different jarritos soda which was I thought was cute. Our server was nice and continually checked on us. I enjoyed my carne asada tacos. It had an inner layer of fried cheese which I loved. I wasn't a big fan of the rice and beans that came with the tacos. I feel like they didn't really have any flavor. My friends' liked it and they loved the tacos they chose. All in all, it was a good experience and if I'm ever in the area again, i would come back.
Came here at the last minute to watch the sunset. We were seated right away and the patio was definitely a great spot to check out the mountains. We got a simple appetizer of elote and some margaritas. Everything hit the spot! Service was great and the waiter made some great suggestions.
We came in after the lunch rush, and thankfully before the dinner rush. Kim was our waitress. We had an amazing experience. We have a gluten and dairy allergy. The fajitas were a GREAT option to combat the allergy concern. We also ordered the quesabirria (not gluten or dairy free), and churros. The ambience. The food. All of it 100/10. We came because the reviews are raving but we'll be back because the food was the best we've had in a while!
We ate here a few years ago, so we definitely came back on this trip to Sedona. We stopped in for a quick snack before taking a Pink Jeep tour. Great views on the red rocks, food was amazing, only complaint was we waited a long time after we were done eating to get the check.

We had the Elote and Guacamole with chips for an appetizer - chips were fresh, crunchy and a great size. The elote was very tasty with sweet corn great seasonings. Guacamole was also delicious with chunks of tomato and jalapeno. For the main course we had the street tacos. I was expecting standard street tacos, but was very surprised to find that these street tacos have melted cheese under the meat!! Wow, they were amazing. I would highly recommend this spot for gluten sensitivity, and for those looking for a great lunch spot. We were seated outside, but the temperature was just right, and we had a nice sun shade.

Came in on a hot day and got seated right away, which was nice. We just grabbed some water to drink and decided to share a meal. The guacamole was really flavorful and fresh -- not too salty at all, with fresh tomatoes and onions that made it super good. We also shared the steak fajitas since we weren't too hungry, and it ended up being really filling. Next time I'd definitely try the chicken or even do the double meat option since that's available. For sharing, the prices weren't too bad either. Service was quick and good the whole time. Overall a solid, easy meal and a good spot to stop in again. read more

We were really disappointed with the lunch we had at 89 agave. This place was recommended, and though the presentation of the food was high-end, the food was just mediocre. We had to pay for chips and salsa, I had a burrito with chicken and there was hardly any chicken in it. My wife did not care for the cheese enchiladas. Service was professional and attentive but $60 later, we felt like we chose poorly. read more

We went early for dinner so no problem getting a seat. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Vibe is casual. We got classic margaritas which were awesome . My husband ordered fajitas, which he really liked. I tasted his chicken and it had a weird almost all spice taste and not Mexican. I ordered cheese enchiladas with red sauce. The red sauce had a sweet flavor to it and also not traditional. I personally like a spicier chili flavor. Service was great with our waitress very friendly. I would come back again and just get margaritas with chips and salsa or some other small appetizer. read more
The food, service, and location were perfect for my family on vacation in Sedona. We went to this restaurant for lunch and luckily beat the lunch rush, getting a table outside. We ordered elote, guacamole, chicken tacos, chicken enchiladas, and pork carnitas tamales. Everything was delicious, but the elote was especially good with the perfect balance of flavors. I highly recommend the elote for the table and to stop in for lunch if you have a chance! read more
We sat outside under the umbrella and enjoyed the great view along the busy main drag. The service was friendly & efficient. I had the fish tacos with beans and rice. my friend had chicken tacos. She had cotija cheese on her beans and I did not. When I said some thing, I got five times as much cheese as she did. Ha ha ha. We had churros for dessert. I thought they were undercooked. My girlfriend said it's a delicacy to have them creamy inside. It was custardy. Served with a chocolate sauce and a caramel sauce. It was delicious. read more
Visited 89Agave on a quick trip through Sedona on the way up north. When we arrived, the hostess immediately demanded we sit outside (in the cold), and didn't give us the option to sit inside although there were many tables. As there were heaters this was okay, but still a bit chilly for a November evening. On the bright side, the service was fantastic and our waiter was able to answer many questions and help us make decisions. The food was pretty good, they did mess up my order when I requested no cheese, but they were able to remake it pretty quickly. We had the Baja Shrimp Tacos and Pork Tamales with rice and beans. Shrimp Tacos were great, the Pork Tamales were average. Part of the way through our dinner one of the servers closed the door to the inside which meant we were sitting in both the cold AND the quiet. When another server opened it, he would continue to close it. Overall, the food was good and service was good and made for a good quick stop for dinner. read more

Oh my god! Oh my god! What a delicious menu of food and drinks! Shrimp tacos were mind blowing. Fajitas come hot on a sizzling plate with fresh tortilla and tamales are so flavorful. Must must try! We got a patio seating and I loved the sedona downtown vibe and view. Dinner in pabalo architecture streets takes this place to another level. Cocktails were good. And most importantly the servers were super friendly and fast. We were traveling from outside the city and each one of them had amazing recommendations for us, i loved it! Will come back! read more

We really liked this restaurant! We both had the special drink which was a kiwi margarita, and we had chicken enchiladas and carne asada tacos. We enjoyed everything that we had! Our server, Kim, went above and beyond. She was funny and checked in on us multiple times. At one point the sun started shining through the open door onto our table and she had the door closed without us even having to ask! I do think it was a bit pricey but honestly everything in the area is similarly priced so it's understandable. read more
We stopped in here yesterday as we had a little bit of time before our Sedona trolley tour. We definitely had a quick but fabulous dining experience! We sat outdoors and Stephen one of the bartenders was our server. He did an outstanding job as he was personable, efficient, and understood we were under a tight deadline. The nacho chips and salsa were fabulous. The chips were fresh and warm. Perfection! I ordered the tortillas soup and it was excellent! Nice chunks of chicken, avocado, and Mexican cheese. With the perfect amount of spice that gave it a little kick. I ordered the jalapeño margarita and it was excellent. I certainly enjoyed the fact that they do not use the bottled sweet sour mix. They use fresh lemon and lime and it made for great margaritas. My friend ordered one of the specialty margaritas. I can't remember which one. But she definitely liked it. Food was ok , service was clumsy. Missed one order , didn't ask for drinks and the once ordered didn't show up , some side orders didn't show , there was literally miss understanding , or something. Didn't even ask if everything ok ! That brings me to ... would I come back ? .... NO ! read more

Great drinks and the quesadilla and birria taco were amazing. We weren't really hungry for a plate of food, but opted for three different tacos. The taco combo plate was like $22 so when we wanted individual tacos, we assumed it would be a lot less, however, the three individual tacos were much more than the combo plate- birria-$7 and carnitas -$11‼ Terrible of the server for not mentioning that as it was not listed on the menu! read more

This was the best meal we had throughout our trip to Sedona. We loved everything we had. Our service was very fast especially considering only 2 waiters were on the night we visited. They were hustling but still took time to be personable, kind, and check in on us. There was a live band playing at the front of the restaurant which provided a wonderful ambiance even from the back of the restaurant. The churros were a highlight of our meal, but we would eat it all again! read more
