Made an appointment at 9am to get my kid's first ever haircut. Was very excited. Husband was waiting for me to send the video. I got there at 8:50 and one stylist was there with another customer and she said "Someone is coming in now and they will help you." Two other stylists came in and completely ignored me. I waited until 9:20 but by then my son is very upset and does not want to sit down anymore. They have time to answer the phone but not to say anything to me, standing right in front of the desk. I told them to cancel the appointment and they acted like they didn't know anything. "I thought you were with the other stylist." The one that left and said bye to both of you? And I am still here in front of your eyes? Clearly not with anyone? "Can you come back later?" NO, wtaf? Why would I come back and go through this again? I've been going to Fabiola specifically for my last handful of haircuts over the last year or so. When my friends ask for hair stylist suggestions I always say cost cutters on W Gray and everyone's shocked I go to a chain. The staff are all nice but I don't have much interaction with anyone else other than Fabi. She's so sweet and keep's conversation light but to a minimal which is what I prefer. I've been going to Cost Cutters on W. Gray for quite a while for a hair cut and color. At least 3 times they have worked someone else in in the middle of my appointment. This last Saturday I was an hour late getting out of there due to Gloria taking 2 other customers in the middle of my appointment. The manager should have stepped in and done the lady with long hair as I was ready to get rinsed and styled, so I could get out of there. I'm seriously pissed off. I have been seen by several different stylists from this location and they all have given me haircuts that I've been happy with. I appreciate that they have a solid team. A haircut shouldn't make you cry in your car. A haircut shouldn't make you extremely depressed wondering how long it's gonna take for it to grow out. Do not go here! If you choose to do not go to the elderly man. I should've just said I would wait for the next salon stylist because he seems a little bit out of it but I thought, no, that wouldn't be very cool. That was my biggest mistake. I told him my hair was curly and I wanted it to be at my shoulder when dry. My hair is at least 2 inches, If not more, above my shoulder! My bangs are now only about 4 inches and they were about 12 inches long! What hairstylist doesn't listen and cut so much hair off without questioning what they didn't understand. I took my glasses off because he asked me to, but I should've kept them on to see what he started doing to my hair. I'm sitting here crying right now looking in my rearview mirror and I'm so upset , it is the worst haircut I've ever had in my life! When I explain to him how I wanted my haircut, he said yes OK long layers and then he caught it at a 90° angle which long layers is done at 45° angle at best fir the length my hair was in the first place. He divided the entire back of my head into TWO sections, top to bottom, and cut the entire section at one time! Just chopped it right off! When he finished chopping my hair off, he said oh it's a new look for you. I didn't want a new look!!! He didn't listen, and he chopped my hair off. Be warned! Do not go here! I have pretty straight short hair. I get a No.2 clipper on the back and sides, and a general trim on top. It's quite difficult to mess it up. During Covid I even bought a set of clippers and did it myself, with not horrendous results. Luigi at Cost Cutters on W Gray managed to make me look like I signed up for the military and got cold feet midway through the haircut. I was left with uneven bumps and tufts. Fortunately, my har grows quickly, so a week later it already looked better, but holy smokes I won't be back here. I went because it's close to my new home, but never again. read more

Manager called & said I'll get conditioning treatment this past Friday. I called prior to driving there, manager not on site. Called today, manager not available. I'm getting the run around please look at my hair now. My scalp is finally pealing, but my hair is has suffered the consequences and it is burned. I was told by a hair stylist that my hair had been compromised. I am not sure what you all are going to do but I am expecting a resolution to this! I am not happy. UPDATE: very impressed and pleased with how management handled this. Thank you. If I could give 0 stars I would. I came in today around 5:45 for a cut and full color, knowing full well that I would be there past closing. Luis started on my hair and decided to try and just go for the brown dye bc it would be an extra $70 to bleach but he wasn't sure he would be able to do it without bleach. Instead of just doing a test strip he did the first half of my head. And then decided to go on with the bleach. So now the back of my head is a lot lighter than the front. I will attach the post bleach pictures bc I don't have good lighting rn to post final product. Around 2 hours in he finally said "this is q hard correction" but I've gotten the same color corrected before and it was much easier. He could not work around my mask so I held it to my face for 4 hours and now my arms are sore. At the end he told me to take it off and kept saying take it off and I was ready to leave so I did. I am also upset with the choice to leave an older male employee alone with a young female client. I am very upset with my hair. It was not worth the freaking $220 I ended up having to pay. Also it is now 10pm and I am finally leaving. Next time y'all should not accept a long job so close to closing. Now I'm stuck with splotchy hair and layers read more

I've been going to the salon since I first moved to Houston 4 years ago! I just happened to get Gloria on my first visit and she is one of the best stylists I've come across in my adulthood. She takes her time and doesn't rush through, making sure to get every angle of your hair on point. I even drove all the way from Katy (for the two years I lived out there) to get my haircut by her every two weeks! Thankfully I live and work right around the corner from a River Oaks Shopping Center. The rest of the staff is very friendly and I am sure they do an amazing job as well. Men's hair special is on Tuesday - only $12 a cut ! Because of this it can get very busy in the evenings after work on Tuesdays. read more

So I needed a root touch up and a cut. I brought several pictures how my hair should and has been. I have dark auburn/brown hair with lots of grey, but in 20+ years, never had a problem with coloring. The first attempt at coloring burned my scalp, and the color hardly took. My roots still showing! I was surprised when the technician asked me what I thought of the touch-up. :-0 So we did a second coloring, which at the sink I felt her mixing it in with the rest of my hair...but not washing out, which I thought was odd. (During each rinse the I expressed how her strong scrubbing and NAILS! were hurting me!). Second coloring was now too dark, and not just the roots but my entire head. When I showed the picture I brought in, she tried to say the almost black color I now had was the same as what was in the picture???!!!! The cut was OK, but I couldn't stop looking at my DARK black hair! I wishI had refused to pay for the coloring portion of the $135 charge. read more

This is not a fancy salon, so I would expect the prices for the services I buy to be cheaper than they actually are. They are not. That's why I give them 4 stars. A haircut + highlights + roots + blow dry cost the same as some of the more upscale locations I sometimes visit, but I don't get added services such as water, snacks, wine etc that I receive in other locations. It's pretty simple and straight forward here and really feels more like a dude's place. With that said, I really like having Fabiola Maldonado as my stylist and that's why I keep coming back. She understands what I need, does a killer blow dry and is just a sweet lady! No frills, just great work! I always leave this place feeling good and confident! read more

I go to Gloria who is ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS. The 1 star review is for the older gray-haired man with an accent who was "checking in" people Saturday. Immediately, instead of my name, he asked for my phone number. I asked if I could give my name and he said "is it your 1st time here?" I said no and why does he need my phone number? He said "just give it to me." So I asked why he needed it and he said "don't you want your hair cut?" I asked "can I sign in somewhere with my name?" While looking for the normal sign in. He then (without taking my name or phone number) pointed to a seat and snarled at me to sit down. What the heck!! I come here every month and have never faced the t-Rex working the counter. Wherever they're selling phone numbers to, they're probably making a huge profit on it compared to the $15 women's haircut. read more

Full disclosure so no one makes the same mistake I did. I paid $84 for shampoo, cut, and style. I was shocked when I saw my total. I don't think anyone goes into TGF expecting to pay legit salon prices. An adult hair cut is $22, which is fair and even on the cheap side. No complaints there. The shampoo and style was $38 for me. I have long hair and they charge you by the length. I think that amount is pretty outrageous. I'm also not a fan of discriminating my hair length. But what further infuriated me was they charged be $20 on top of that because I asked for loose curls when she styled it. Most other stylists know how to create loose curls just using a hair dryer and round brush. She had to use a curling iron and it took 45 minutes. So I'm pretty annoyed that I had to pay that upcharge because she didn't know how to create loose curls under the "regular" styling umbrella... which still costs $38. For the record the hair cut was decent and what I asked for. I went into TGF hoping to save money compared to going to a boutique salon because my haircut is pretty simple, just long layers. Went out paying MORE than what I would pay at boutique salons around the same area. Never again, TGF. read more

Awful experience! The man who cut my hair last week was extremely unprofessional and I have been in pain for almost 3 days since my haircut. I commented on how rough he way being during the cut but he continued on. My neck is still irritated and hurts. I have never had such an awful experience for a simple haircut.
