Cheesesteak

Cosmo's Cheesesteaks can be found in Scranton, PA and their hours of operation are 11:00 AM - 9:00 PM. They specialize in cheesesteaks and chicken cheesesteaks. They also offer subs, wing bites, and hand cut fries and sides. I had the opportunity to check this place out last month because I had a bowling tournament nearby. The food was good and counter service was friendly. I ordered a cheesesteak and an order of their house fries. The steak could have used more cheese, but other than that it was pretty good. The fries were delicious. They were cooked and salted perfectly. Cosmo's has indoor/outdoor seating. Takeout and delivery are both available. Best cheesesteak I've ever had. Better than the ones in Philly like geno's, etc. Can't miss!

This is as close to the real deal in Scranton. They send for the Amarosa bread in Philly. That is the secret to a great cheesesteak. You can put the cheese of choice on it. Very south Philly.

*IMPORTANT TO NOTE FOR NEWCOMERS/TOURISTS : as of 5/15/23 when I went, it seems this place is takeout only? There is seating inside but it was closed off, just tables outside if the weather is nice. There is an order window outside or you can go inside to a counter to place your order to-go . There is a spacious parking lot to the left of the building.* I've lived in Scranton my whole life and I've never been here until last Monday around 7-8pm. There was one couple at a table outside just waiting for their food, and we went inside to place our order and take it home. There was one girl working, no one else inside waiting. We took a menu from the counter, decided on two sandwiches and fries to split, and went outside to wait. From the moment we parked the car, to the moment the friendly cashier came outside with our bagged-up food was only 15 minutes. That's awesome! I'm sorry for all other reviews on this page that say their order took forever, that wasn't our experience at all. After getting home to unpack and eat, we were happy to see how huge these Large sandwiches are and how huge the portion of fries were! Everything tasted amazing! The meat wasn't dry, sure there could have been more Wiz cheese, but the delicious bread made up for it. The fries were perfectly cooked and hot, the sauce was bomb, the bleu cheese was salty but not too much. My fiance ordered a sandwich that came with chicken bites on it, so I took one to try, that was great too. Not too much breading, plenty of meat. Only thing I would change would be to add more sauce, but that's just my preference. Would I return? 1000% YES. I haven't stopping thinking of our order since and I want to try more options. I hate myself for not coming here sooner!

My food was awesome. I had a large cheesesteak with wiz, onions, mushrooms, and marinara. I also had disco fries. I devoured it all. The order took a long time to get. Also, there is no indoor seating. What the hell? It's soooo cold. People are sitting at the tables, shivering.

Amazing cheesesteaks!!! They operate through a window now and they have a menu posted on that menu with a menu stand for the specials. You order at the window and wait perhaps 10-15 minutes depending on what you got. They have an outdoor dining area where they set aside tables in the shade. I went in the summer, and the shade was very nice to wait in while the food was being prepared. The menu has so many good sounding choices. I definitely want to try more cheesesteaks and their fries. We got two cheesesteaks (one had French fries and was on the special menu but I forgot the name of it and Phat Sranton). Maybe it was the fact that they had to be made for take out, but we thought the bread was too soggy from the juices. I wish there were more fries or were crispier in my cheesesteak. I like how the Phat Sranton had a little kick to it though.

The food was really good and the prices were fine, but the service was meh. Just gonna leave it there.

The meal deal with salt and vinegar fries. Totally worth it!

Came from out of state and wanted to try legit cheesesteaks from Pennsylvania. These were super fresh and very good. I got the meal deal and it was a ton of food. Salt and vinegar fries were very good and the service was super friendly. Totally recommend!

Very dry, not great quality meat.

It's very very rare that we write a negative review, but unfortunately this one is totally deserved. I've had a lot of cheesesteaks in my life, and this for sure was the driest one I've ever had. The steak was dry itself, the cheese was minimal, it wasn't seasoned well...really I could keep going too but I don't want to tear this place down. I'm hoping they just had a really bad day, but this was easily one of the worst cheesesteaks I've ever had.

I've had some fantastic meals from this place in the past, so I was really looking forward to my…read morerecent order. While there were definitely highlights, I found myself a bit disappointed as well. First off, the ribs were a standout in terms of taste; they were tender and flavorful, literally falling off the bone. However, they arrived in a pizza box, sitting on foil, and were ice cold. I believe they would have retained more warmth if they had been wrapped in foil or placed in a proper takeout dish. Given that it was only a half rack, it should have fit comfortably. On the brighter side, the mashed potatoes and gravy were as delightful as always. Every time I order them, they're consistently delicious. The turkey and roast beef platters were also warm and tasty, which I appreciated. However, I couldn't shake the feeling of being misled by the portion sizes. It seemed like they were trying to create an illusion of abundance by stuffing four slices of bread under the meat. This wasn't just the case with the turkey platter; the same trick was used for the roast beef platter. When I ordered, I explicitly declined the bread option, thinking I was getting a straightforward platter, not an open-faced sandwich. Instead of a generous serving, I felt like I received less meat than I expected, masked by the hidden bread. So, while I enjoyed the flavors, I can't ignore the feeling of being a bit deceived. I'm left uncertain about my next order. Perhaps I'll reach out to them directly to discuss my experience. I understand that times are tough, and the costs of ingredients, especially meat, can be challenging, but I can't help but feel a bit fooled and/or misled by all the slices of bread under both the Turkey & Roast Beef meat (4/5 slices under each pile of meat, for each platter! Please see the evidence in the pictures I uploaded) I cannot comment on the ambience because I had my food delivered to me!

There was the option for Rodizio (endless table side meat with the buffet as well) or Boardwalk which is just the buffet. We chose to do the Rodizio all 3 of us. The buffet, was underwhelming. As a positive I will say each item we grabbed from the buffet was absolutely delicious, the correct temperature, and FRESH! They refill their boardwalk bar constantly. The buffet just didn't have many options. There were 2 tables basically side by side. One hot side where there was garlic broccoli, brown sugar carrots, mac and cheese, beans, rice, mash potatoes, and sweet potatoes, shrimp (which my wife adored) etc. In the middle a very amazing yucca stew. Then cold side had regular salad bar options, tomatoes, cheeses, lettuce, dressing, potato salad, pesto pasta, etc. Maybe if we went with the boardwalk option which was $39 something we would have been fully satisfied. However we did pay $70 each for the Rodizio. There were 13 meats, we were there for 2 hours and didn't try all the meats. The meats came pretty slowly with big breaks in between and some cuts of meat went right by us over and over. As well my husband and I requested medium rare, and consistently were offered well done or very well done meat. As well some of the meat was under seasoned in some cases. Some of the meat when it was actually medium rare was absolutely phenomenal, like the lamb with rosemary was all of our favorite. Again to some positives, the owner was very involved, walking around and asking everyone how they were, the entire staff was friendly. The tables were cute with candles in the middle, and the atmosphere was cozy. The place isn't very big so as more people fill in it gets a bit loud and hard to hear your gaucho say what meat they are offering, but they kindly repeated for me over and over despite my terrible hearing. The drinks seem to be amazing, we tried both sangrias white and red, and then got a pitcher we ended up taking most of home (yes they let you!). Which I thought was awesome, and the sangria is to die for! Like I said the meat was slow and inconsistent, but worse was our server, which I will not name because she was a teen and maybe this is her first job, but she consistently walked past us without checking in. Finally we flagged her down to beg for a water refill, and she refilled half the rooms water and stood talking in the kitchen for a bit, before getting us any. Now lastly to dessert. I got the liquor chocolate cake, it was delicious, but in my opinion quite small, though admittedly I'm a fat girl, so I like a good size dessert. My wife also got a dessert, the flan, she also complained it was small. They also only put like 3 strawberries on each which was disappointing because it enhanced the flavor a lot. All in all, it's a fun experience. 10/10 for kindness and vibes. 9/10 for the quality of the buffet. 7/10 for buffet variety 5 or less really, for actual service. Our bill was for three rodizios, two desserts, one beer, one glass white sangria, one glass red sangria, and a pitcher of white sangria. Mind you it was a Tuesday and they do sales of almost half price on sangria by the glass and pitcher. Our bill came out to about $308. I don't feel our experience met expectations. When we go out for anniversaries we drop $300 or more without thought and a good tip, (special occasions we go all out). So we considered if we liked this place coming back for our anniversary, but I wouldn't bother. I left a small tip for the lack of service, and would never go back. I still would recommend it to others if they have patience, maybe speak up more than I did about meat preference, and just want the experience. Go and see for yourself, but just keep in mind to be vocal about preferences, and ready to wait.

Our plans before were running long but luckily their reservation policies were flexible enough that I had no problem moving my time, even on such a busy day. The restaurant was POPPING when we arrived around 4:30. We were seated promptly. The only downside to our experience was that the table was SUPER shaky and wobbly. We asked our waitress for a shim or piece of paper to steady the table but she informed us it was the table head itself, not the legs, so nothing could be done. I was not thrilled about this but assumed that these were tables they hauled out of storage to accommodate the holiday demand, so I can understand. Our server was very warm and friendly despite the chaos. Prices are on the high side but the quality is good and the portions are large. I went for the lobster cobb which was a special and it was LOADED with lobster meat. They really heaped it on. A little light on the avocado, but overall it was really wonderful. My mother went for a seafood scallop risotto which I also tried. It was creamy and flavorful. Our food came out in a reasonable timeframe, and our server was good about getting our check. One thing I really liked was that they put which dishes on the menu are over 500 calories, and most were under. A lovely, healthy dining choice with a nice ambiance. I'd return!

The high ceilings and metal work inside gives an old industrial feel. The menu had a lot of tasty choices and the beer menu was fantastic.
