They are pricey at $1,267 but a three year old federal law will not let you replace a pool motor that goes bad with a $300 replacement motor. (Like me, I'll bet many pool owners are not aware of this.) I checked around and prices were the same with other pool companies. Those companies did not have valid contractor licenses with the state. For a price over $1,000, Arizona law requires that the work be performed by a licensed contractor. I went on www.azroc.gov which is for the Arizona Registrar of Contractors and through a search there found Always Clean. The installation was great and it took him a little over two hours including the training of how to use the computer system it has. You can spot a true professional by how accurately they can perform a repair or install task. Also, they can troubleshoot any existing problems with ease. Todd made it look easy. There is no way that I could have done it. When your kids or grandkids swim in a pool you want absolute safety. Hiring a licensed contractor is worth it.

We bought a house in Tempe and CAM Pools was servicing it, so we continued with them. After some…read morebig storms, the pool was a mess. [Added later: CAM's own report had photos showing it was a mess, but these aren't apparently reviewed by the owner.] CAM Pools didn't do much to clean up, and never told us hey, you need to pay more for storm cleanup. They basically left it to us to unclog the vacuum robot and clean up which we did as best we could. The chemistry was also very bad, as we found out later. The pressure on the pool filter was also way too high. [Added later: CAM's technician dutifully sent us a photo showing the pressure at 28 psi, but never told us that was bad.] That's all fixable, but they broke a tile (covering a skimmer basket) and never told us. Not great. But why they get only two stars is when I called the phone number in the "we cleaned your pool" email to cancel our service, the owner was positively mad at me for canceling without giving him a chance to fix the issues. He was angry and blamed me for not calling him earlier. He never apologized for these obvious problems or took responsibility. He wanted to yell at me for daring to complain without having called him first. Hard to believe that his company messed up and his angry reaction was that it was all my fault. [Added later: Note the owner's responses are "I'm sorry you feel that way" not "I'm sorry my company messed up." I hung up because he wanted to continue to argue with me about how I should have given him a chance to fix these problems. I was done with CAM and had every right to cancel without explanation. I never asked him to fix anything. If he really has a recording, I hope he posts it.] Contractors make mistakes. That's part of the territory. But blaming and yelling at the customers is not good. Cool Pools was the pool company hired through our property management company AH Properties and unfortunately, dealing with them became a significant source of frustration and concern. During our tenancy, Cool Pools damaged our personal property, and despite bringing the damage to the attention of both Cool Pools and the property management company, neither was willing to take responsibility or reimburse us for the damages. We also became increasingly concerned about the maintenance and safety of the pool water. Because we did not feel our concerns were being adequately addressed, we ultimately paid out of our own pocket during the final year of our lease to have the pool water tested and water analysis from professionals, we hired a neutral company that was highly reputable with great reviews! The results showed only approximately 55% overall water-test quality, with concerning levels of chlorine, TDS, pH, and alkalinity, including both excessively high and excessively low readings. Whenever we raised questions or concerns, our interactions with the property management were often deflected rather than focused on resolving the issues. Because we wanted objective answers regarding the condition and safety of the pool, we chose to rely on independent professionals and paid for professional water testing ourselves. It is extremely disappointing to have paid rent expecting as advertised in the lease agreement a properly maintained and safe pool, only to have to spend our own money investigating problems that we believe should have been addressed by the pool company and property management. Based on our two-year experience, we would not recommend Cool Pools to others. They did the work within a week and I can't even see where the cracks were in the deck, and my water bill is a lot lower because my skimmer no longer leaks.
