This business is the most unprofessional repair shop I have ever dealt with. I wouldn't wish their services on my worst enemy. On 8/26/10, I called Cornerstone to have someone take a look at my malfunctioning dryer. The receptionist " Christina," took my address but said absolutely nothing about any fees or charges to give me an estimate. On 8/27/10, a serviceman arrived at my door and spent approximately 5 minutes looking at my dryer. He didn't take anything apart, he didn't test anything, he simply said "you need X part" and an estimate of $425 and 7 days to get it ordered. I asked to think about it for a couple of days so that I could get additional estimates. At that time he pulled out his credit card machine and said "OK, that'll be $75.00." I had no idea this fee was going to be assessed (and it's not mentioned on their Web site). Beware--no free estimates here! The serviceman assured me it would be applied to my bill if I had the work done, so I reluctantly gave him my credit card number and paid this fee. Several days later after investigating other options, I decided to have the part replaced. They told me it would be a week or so to get it ordered and that they would give me a call when it arrived. Almost 2 weeks later after no updates, I called them to inquire about the status of my order. No answer. I called a second time the next day. No answer. Finally, I receive a call from Christina (on a Friday at 4pm) asking me to call her with the model number of my dryer because "either the repairman had written it down wrong or the company sent the wrong part." I called her back on Monday (no answer) and left a voicemail with the information. No call back with confirmation, no apology for the error, nothing. When I asked for some concession on the price for this delay, she referred me to a supervisor. I never got a return call about that, the request was simply ignored. After another two weeks of hearing nothing and no updates, I called to ask for the status of the part. The next day I received a call to schedule the repair on 10/5/10--40 days after my initial estimate. 40 days! Once the part was installed, I got a bill for labor ($80) and the part ($286) + tax. The statement did not reflect a credit for the initial estimate, so I assumed it was overlooked. When I called the office to question this, Christina wasn't helpful at all. In fact, she was confrontational, argumentative and seemed only interested in defending the bill than addressing my problem. Five minutes later, the technician (much nicer) called saying he had "already reduced the bill by that amount and that it just wasn't reflected in the statement." Nice. How was I supposed to know that? And why was I treated so poorly for questioning it? Bottom line, I got my dryer fixed, and in the end probably paid what I owed them; however, my interaction with this company was terrible, and I wish I'd never dealt with them. You probably shouldn't either. read more

After reading the positive reviews here I decided to give Cornerstone a call. They scheduled a visit to our home within days of that initial call. Fernando took a look at our Viking stove and said that he would need to order a part but he would probably be back the following week to complete the repairs. That was over 3 months ago. In response to our repeated calls to Cornerstone, mind you they never took the initiative to call us, we were told the following: * the part is on back order * the part will be in next Tuesday * we don't know where the part is * we will have Fernando call you (he didn't) * you may want to order the part as it might be faster for you to order the part (but no return call when I asked them to please tell me what part I should order) * the part is still on back order * this is a common problem with Viking * we had one customer whose part was on back order for 6 months * we will have Fernando call you (never happened) So we gave up on Cornerstone and called Viking and asked for a local service referral. Today a very friendly, professional and knowledgeable technician with Signature Service arrived on time for our scheduled appointment and fixed the problem in about 30 minutes. Michael had the part we needed, showed my husband how to make some minor adjustments and though we paid a bit more for the service call, it was worth it. I would definitely recommend Signature Service for your Viking repair needs. read more

These two stars are mostly for the poor quality of the "receptionist/call taker" and my general grumpiness at having to pay $75 to get nothing fixed and wait around all vacation for various repairmen. I called Cornerstone and made an appointment for the next day to fix my stacked dryer. So far, so good. I'd already called three other repairmen who wouldn't work on stacked appliance, so I was grateful to find someone who would. The repairman called me in the allotted two hour window asking for directions and a house number. I had given the girl on the phone my house number, color and very specific directions, several times, but the repairman said he had none of that info. I gave him directions, waved him in from down the street and showed him the problem. After putzing around, seemingly a little confused, with my dryer for about half an hour, the repairman informed me that I had a bad breaker or outlet and I needed to call an electrician. Then he billed me $75 for a service call. The receptionist didn't mention the cost of a service call, which would've been nice of her. Cornerstone Appliance can't help it if I have a bad breaker/outlet (assuming I do), but they can help it if their receptionist is bad about dispensing information (in both directions). Are they good repairmen? Who knows? read more

My electric Kenmore dryer went out. I called a few different Appliance repair places on Thursday, and the earliest I could get was Tuesday. I called Cornerstone based on the review here. The woman who answered stated that they should be able to fit me in on Saturday. Fernando called me on Saturday to state he was on his way and to confirm the service was still needed. Once he arrived he he was friendly, personable, and explained everything he was doing step by step. He actually discovered the person who previously worked on the dryer had actually overrode a safety switch which then led to some wiring burning up. This could very easily have started a fire (especially with the lint that had accumulated beneath the dryer) so we were very relieved that this had not occurred. Fernando took the time to fix things correctly. He even took the time to vacuum out the lint. Once he was finished he was very fair in describing the charges for the parts, the labor, and the service call itself. Overall I was very pleased with the experience and would not hesitate to call again or recommend Cornerstone to others. read more

ULine assigned this company to work on a repair at a commercial office for a brand new piece of equipment that was delivered damaged. He was asked to contact our construction team to coordinate being at the office at the same time - Fernando Gonzalez Jr (Sr Technician) did not call. I provided him the number, explained our situation and he still did not call. A part had to be ordered. I explained again (as did our construction team) that we'd need him to coordinate arriving with them to go through the repair and issues. He showed up without having called them - AGAIN - and was a total and complete jack hole. He said that they were too busy to make those calls and that it'd only take him 5 minutes to do the repair, so it was not work calling them now. There was not time in his schedule to sit around waiting. I was already disheartened that our unit arrived damaged twice, and we were 45 days past our completion mark and he certainly did not help with the frustration levels at all. I wish we'd have sent the unit back, rather than deal with his complete lack of customer service and professionalism. read more

Was excited to find another terrific local business when our 10+ yr old washing machine died this summer. Fernando talked through a repairing it vs. replacing it and answered questions by e-mail once we started shopping for a new machine. We were so impressed with the attention to detail and expertise that we narrowed our search to the brands Cornerstone services. Would hate to face another appliance "event" without Cornerstone's help! Today, the problem was a microwave that stopped heating things up. Patrick not only showed up early but he fought traffic to trek to the other side of town for the required part. He could have ordered it and scheduled a return trip next week, but he decided he had time to make this extra effort. Very impressive. I've now been through two rounds with Cornerstone and service has been outstanding. Thank heaven for Cornerstone! The day before Thanksgiving, the fridge decides not to work. "No way anyone is coming out here today," I say to my husband. But I called Cornerstone, and they scheduled someone right away. Patrick diagnosed our sick freezer, had the part on his truck, and had us fixed up in no time for a fraction of what it would have cost us to buy a new one. And he had great advice about hanging on to our fridge for a few more years. I'm so glad I called Cornerstone again. I love these people. read more

My wife had a bra come apart in the washer (front-loader) and the wire worked its way into the guts of the thing. Based on other yelpers I called Cornerstone to have it checked out. I rec'd a call back within a couple hours and they were able to come the next day. (Because of scheduling this couldn't work and we pushed it to a few days later.) Fernando called to say he was in route, showed in on the front-end of the "window" of time quoted and had it fixed within a few minutes. He then stayed behind to run a couple cycles through it to make sure that was really the only problem (which it was). He warranteed his labor for 30 days. While we didn't need any parts, he warrantees those for 90 days. He was honest and friendly....I would use him again and would feel confident suggesting others use Cornerstone! read more

Noticed some water leaking out of my washer a few days ago so called Cornerstone after a quick search on Yelp. My work schedule doesn't make it easy for me to call out a repair guy but I managed to get in for Monday morning and Fernando came out to take a look-see to help me figure out what was going on. Fernando took apart the entire washer trying to figure out what was going on, and finally we realized that there wasn't anything wrong with the washer itself, it was just that with that particular model, if you pull the washing bin(?) forward the water tends to bounce off the back end of the bin and spray water that ends up dripping down onto the ground. After explaining everything he took time to double check all the water connections to make sure there wasn't anything else, and gave us a discount on the service charge on top of that because nothing was wrong with it. We ended up giving him a tip to bring it back up to the original service charge because we were really happy with the service he provided. A++, would buy again. read more

These guys are great. I scheduled an appt the day before to fix my frig betwen 8 and 10 the next day. He called at 9:00am and arrived at 9:15. By 9:30 he knew what the problem was and by 10:00 it was fixed. He is very very friendly and equally informative about how to care for your appliance. Fernando has serviced my subzero and AC and is the owner/technician but more than that he's an outstanding human being. I was out of town and found out my subzero fridge was apparently not working. Fernando came out quickly two times to help out. The problem was likely due to door being left open by my son but he checked everything and determined things were working properly. He is very cheerful, positive and extremely good at what he does. I had no problems with scheduling, and he left the place cleaner then it was when he came. My recent air conditioning experience with Cornerstone Appliance and Fernando was so upsetting that I felt it necessary to write about a general business practice that is very deceptive . We have used Cornerstone in the past and Fernando's claim has always been that he looks out for his customers and will not do unnecessary work, unlike larger established A/C companies. He also promises that he will credit back the cost of any repair against future work if necessary. This is appealing as who wouldn't want to save money. Three months ago our A/C went out and we called Fernando. He said we needed a new blower motor, circuit board and other parts and charged us $1,500.00. Everything was fine until our A/C quit working a month ago. Fernando came out and claimed that our compressor was hit by either a power surge or lighting strike and that the repair would be even more costly or he could install a new A/C unit. He repeated his offer to credit the cost of the past repair on any future work, however I was becoming very suspicious of his explanation and called multiple A/C companies to come out for an evaluation. Fernando explained that there was no way for him to know that our compressor was about to quit, however the other A/C reps told me that a power surge or lighting strike didn't damage our compressor, it was the age of our A/C unit. If Fernando properly tested our A/C unit he could have determined that our compressor was stressed and the probability of failure was high. And if he were candid he would have given me the option of paying for a very expensive short term repair or just get a new unit. This is similar to a honest car mechanic who tells a customer with an old car that the repair is going to cost more than the worth of the car and it's probably better to just get another car. Fernando didn't do this. At this point I already knew that I was not going to use Cornerstone's services ever again, however I asked Fernando for a bid on an A/C replacement to see if he would be competitive with the other quotes I received. What he presented was shocking. Fernando's bid for a comparable A/C unit was so ridiculously high that it was obvious he inflated it to more than cover the initial $1,500.00 repair. If I take Fernando by his word that there was no way for him to know that our compressor was going to fail, then in my mind he doesn't have the skill or knowledge to do a proper evaluation. All the technicians I interviewed said that given the age and condition of our A/C unit, along with testing that would have indicated our compressor was in bad shape would not have recommended a costly short term repair. More importantly if Fernando did the testing, knew the compressor was bad and didn't inform me says volumes about his integrity and honesty. Either way, I don't associate with individuals that are not knowledgeable or trustworthy. This has been a very costly experience with Cornerstone as we ended up purchasing a new A/C unit from a reputable company. Hopefully you won't get caught up in Fernando's ruse. read more

Cornerstone Appliance is owned by Fernando Gonzalez and will most likely be the person who comes for the service call. You'll probably make your appointment when you call with his daughter who's friendly and can give a pretty tight window for your appointment (narrower than most places, in my experience). I've used him 3 times now for a washer, a dryer, and a stove. He's completely customer oriented and will almost always be able to come within a day of your call even if it means working evening hours. He's easily been able to fix all of my issues and even had the parts on hand when they were necessary. His pricing is reasonable and you won't feel nickle and dimed by any unusual charges or fees. To give you an idea of how committed he is to customer service here's what happened with my stove. After having it for a year it started tripping a GFCI outlet when heating up. Fernando came to check it out, found nothing wrong and suggested that the outlet had probably gone bad. I replaced the GFCI but the problem remained. I asked him to come out again, and he double checked the stove and insisted there was no problem. So he called an electrician friend on his cell phone who came out on the spot and repaired some faulty kitchen wiring. Even though I'd called him out for nothing he didn't even charge me for the service call. So he is very fair to his customers (maybe a little too fair!!). read more

I don't know how these negative reviews could have happened, I just find Cornerstone soooo reliable, professional and caring of their customers! I have a couple rental units downtown and so I know I'm not a big client like others with many units. But these guys always take my call, respond promptly, treat me like I'm an important customer and schedule technicians who know there stuff in a very timely manner ( which is so important to us as we want to make our tenants happy ). Their prices are fair and I never feel I'm being sold parts I don't need or service time that the job doesn't need. They are great. I've used them personally as well and they always meet or beat my expectations. I am proud to say that I am a repeat customer and they are my first call should I need any appliance which they service! They've wound up being my only call because they are prompt, professional and reliable. That's all I ask of my vendors. They make managing my properties simple and thus make me better at my job. Okay, I wrote a pretty scathing review and have to bump up from one star to two.... it appears the parts were on back order from the appliance store and I understand that Fernando has no control over that issue, but he (or his employees) did have an obligation to communicate with me. I'm waiting for the second round of parts replacement from the appliance store because the first replacement set was scratched, too. So the issue still isn't resolved, but it's not all Cornerstone's fault. read more

Unfortunately I am obligated to negatively review Cornerstone Home & Commercial Services for their false advertising. I am unable to use their services, and hence have not used them, because they will not let me. They clearly state on their web page: "We currently provide factory warranty & recall services for units still covered by their manufacturer's warranty...." Unfortunately after being referenced to them by the manufacturer for warranty service, they refuse to schedule a call with an explanation that "We are not taking any more warranty calls at this time" and they are unable to provide me an estimate when that may change. I understand a business may get busy and backed up (good for them) but they need to either provide an outlook of when normal business will resume or halt their advertising of services that are not currently available. This is not a good first impression. read more

Feeling uneasy about my washer, I gave Cornerstone a call due to their positive reviews. I spoke with Fernando about the issues I was having with my washer machine, and he isolated the problem on the phone. I set up an appointment with their office manager Christina who was very nice and accommodating. Cornerstone's rep Patrick came over that afternoon, confirmed the issue, and got me up and running quickly. I bought a dishwasher from Sears and wanted someone to install and haul away the old unit. Sears offered to deliver and install/haul away for a fee... and lets just say I thought it was a little high. I called Cornerstone where I talked to their receptionist. She was able to get me in contact with Fernando who gave me a much more competitive quote to go pick up/install/haul away. Shortly after installation started Fernando noticed a fixture that Sears claimed was not needed was in fact needed. He quickly went to Home Depot, bought the fixture (at his cost) and did a great job with the install. Fernando explains his work and takes his time so everything works the first time. read more

Had a dishwasher problem so I called the manufacturer. The dishwasher is only 16 months old, so we thought it may still be under warranty. The manufacturer told us the warranty was only one year. The manufacturer gave us three names of repair places to try. After investigating a little online, I called Cornerstone. Fernando came out the next day, diagnosed the problem as a faulty circuit board that has been common with this brand. He told us that we may be able to get the board covered if we call the manufacturer back and "explained" our unease with the situation. My wife is really good at complaining (aren't they all :), so she called, and the manufacturer covered the expense of the circuit board (~$100). The board took a couple days to come in, and after a little problem with the wrong board coming in, Fernando coming out and discovering the error, sending it back, and the next day, the right board coming in, he came back to fix it. Fernando was very apologetic, professional, friendly throughout the whole situation. He fixed the problem, and explained everything about it very thoroughly. Because of the mix-up, and his error (coming over with the wrong circuit board), he knocked 25% off his price. A little goes a long way with stuff like that with me, and now Cornerstone's number is saved in my phone for the inevitable next appliance that I have kick the bucket. read more

We used Yelp to help us pick out an appliance repair company since we had zero experience in this area. The reviews were extremely positive for Cornerstone Appliance Repair so we gave them a shot. They were able to come right out early the morning after we called and Fernando (the owner) quickly diagnosed the problem with our refrigerator. We were impressed because he took the time to explain what was broken, fixed the problem right away and gave us a lesson in how to maintain our appliances. He took time to go over his invoice explaining each charge and included a nice $10 discount. There were no hidden charges or surprises. Overall a great experience and we would definitely use Cornerstone again. read more

I have a rental condo on the east side and one of the tenants reported that the dryer is no longer drying. I searched Yelp and went through the list of people with good reviews. Fernando was A) one of the only people who answered, and B) the only one who was able to get over there to look at it immediately. Fernando was very responsive to all of my different texts and questions and was very efficient. Within 5 minutes of looking at the dryer, he knew exactly what was wrong and, upon my permission, ordered the part. As soon as it came in, he was over and fixed my dryer. I have been using Fernando for the past 3 years for appliance repairs. He worked on my Bosch refrigerator, a GE dishwasher at my rental house & today he fixed my huge GE refrigerator in my garage. He is honest & will tell u if it can be fixed or if it is time for a new appliance. He gives a warranty with his service. He now works on AC units from his 15 years past experience. We had a problem with front panel of dishwasher and a gentleman named Patrick came in on time and fixed it temporarily without any charge to get me going in those first few days. He then came back within a week to replace the panel permanently. Both times he was on time and was very professional. I liked the prompt and quick service they provided. I gave them 4 instead of 5 stars is because the warranty is only 90 days for a $350 part. I wish it was at least a year. Hope it keeps working for years to come. :-) read more

Patrick made a visit to my house last Friday to fix my Bosch dishwasher. First let me say 'Woohoo' for servicing Bosch dishwashers (I've litteraly been laughed at for calling an applicance repair about my Bosch) Second - the price was great! We had called another appliance repair shop and they told us that we probably needed our pump replaced and they estimated $350 to order the part and fix it.. Cornerstone price was less than an $300 estimate. Third - Thank you Patrick for being honest and not just replacing the part - we ended up just needing to have our pipe snaked. With a price less than $150 to come out evaluate the issue and snake the drain. Christina the receptionist was always nice when I called her - I had asked that they order the pump just in case that was the issue and she did so and also emailed me the price of the part so I had a general idea of what the cost was going to be. Thanks to Cornerstone my dishwasher was up and running for the baby shower I had scheduled at my house the next day. I will be calling these guys back if we have any other appliance issues for sure! read more

I had a great experience with Cornerstone and I am usually very critical of repair people. I had them give me a second opinion on fixing my dishwasher after Oak Hll wanted to charge me around $250 for the repair (plus an $80 diagnostic fee). Cornerstone told me I didn't need to replace the parts that Oak Hill told me I needed and fixed the problem for$84. I appreciated there efforts to save me money. The repairman (who I think was the owner) was also very pleasant to deal with. read more

We had Fernando out to our house to look at our fridge that had started making a crazy noise and stopped cooling. The funny thing was that our fridge was actually working when he came out! We left it unplugged for about a day, and happened to try it out again the night before our appointment with cornerstone. It kicked back on and worked perfect. Fernando checked the performance, and it seemed to be working perfectly. He also gave us great advice about how to care for and clean the fridge to make sure it stays in working order. Really, really helpful stuff. However, we filled it back with food...and it broke again. We recorded the noise that it was making, and consulted again. Turns out our fan was freezing over due to impurities in the system causing it to have to work overtime. What gives Cornerstone the five-star review is that they were very up front with us. They could flush the system for a good chunk of change, but that it couldn't be guaranteed because something might be wrong with the actual system. If that was the case, then the repair would be almost replacing the whole thing. Rather than waste both of our time, we got some straightforward advice about what to do and were only out the small amount for the service call. Great company, would definitely use again. read more

The owners daughter and son run the office, and the owner does all the work. Since, their is only him doing the work, you won't get an appt right away every time.
