We have had a HORRIBLE experience with John's appliance and repair. We had a new washer delivered, and the rental management company that takes care of our rental property hired John's appliance to move the new unit up the stairs, replace the old washing machine unit with the new one, and repair the belt of our dryer, and to replace the broken water collection tray under the units. The first time they came out, Alex and another young man spilled stagnate water all over the carpet on my stairs and living room floor without offering to clean it up. The house smelt like sewage for the rest of the day. They needed a part for the dryer, so they were unable to fix it at that time. However, the next day when trying to run a load, we discovered the new washing machine shook and danced around the laundry room with the dryer on top of it. The dryer almost fell on my daughter, who tried to stop it and would have if she hadn't screamed, causing me to run up the stairs just in time. The SECOND they came back out, Alex replaced the belt on the dryer and "leveled" the Washer. Alex was rushing to leave, but I asked him to stay for a load to see if it worked. I made the mistake of not putting any clothing in for the test, and it looked okay; I told him it might run differently with the weight of a load in it, but he was in such a hurry that I let him go. When we tried to run an actual load, it danced and tried to shake off the washer again. Again we told the management company, and this time we immediately texted Alex too. He asked me to take a picture of the back, but I couldn't at the moment, and then he ghosted me (like in other reviews) for multiple days. After the management company contacted John, they were promised to send someone out either that night or the following day to fix the issue. That Monday, Alex said he would come by the next day and get it fixed. He said he "forgot to take the shipping screws out" On Wednesday, after several attempts by myself and the management company, we finally got ahold of them, and Alex said he would come by. When he arrived the THIRD time, Alex still did not have the replacement tray and gave me attitude when I questioned him about it. After about five minutes of working on the washing machine, he was leaving and about to head out the door when I asked him... "Hey, can you please stay until I run a load, so we can ensure it runs properly like you had agreed to with the management company?" That set him off, and he raised his voice and said, "Why are you acting like I didn't stay the last time?" "You did stay the last time, but the management company already talked to you guys about staying this time, so we can make sure it is working." He rolled his eyes, and we went back up the stairs. I said, "I'm sorry; I'm a little frustrated because you have been telling me every day this week that you were going to show up and then ghosted me when it came time to do the job." "I never said I was going to come to fix this." He replied "Would you like me to show you the text messages you sent me?" I asked "YOu know what Im out of here!" He yelled and left. I called the management company and told them what had happened. They called John's appliance.... It turns out that he did get the washer working, but he did not connect the dryer exhaust to the hose, so the hot air gets put outside. The management company says he will come back. He comes back, but he does not say a word to me. I direct him to the problem. After about ten minutes, he starts to leave again. "Are you finished?' I ask "Yeah," he says as he exits the door. I decided to check his work. The picture below is what he left us with. While I'm taking the picture, my wife went out to stop him. I don't know exactly what was said, but he said that's the best job he can do and called my wife crazy. KEEP IN MIND The picture included with this review is the "BEST" they can do. I needed to have my Samsung gas dryer converted to liquid propane. I thought it was something my husband could handle but he decided to bow out gracefully. I had the conversion kit on hand, and Alex came out to perform the conversion. After he left I used the dryer and noticed a burning smell. I thought maybe it was just from not being used for a couple weeks during our move or just simply just the new parts that he had installed. I've now ran the dryer three different times with nothing in it and the burning smell is awful and getting Worse. I reached out to Alex, who tried to tell me that the burning smell is normal. And said that he could come out in five days to look at it. But if he felt it was operating normally he would have to charge me another service call fee. I do NOT recommend this business. I've decided to reach out to an entirely different appliance company. One that is reputable and will stand behind their work and at least make an effort to remedy. read more

Had John come out to diagnose a cooktop that I thought was burning real low. I believe John sent his son out who was a nice kid, but didn't have the expertise to diagnose what happened. He was out here for about 15min, casually said that nothing seemed to be wrong, did a bit of research for instructions on the cooktop, and then left. I then had someone from Bosch come out a few weeks later and within 10min, they knew exactly what was wrong. Turns out someone converted this cooktop into a propane instead of natural gas. They gave me some recommendations and easy repair instructions that I could do myself. Ultimately, I spent $65 for John's company to come out and tell me nothing was wrong when there clearly was. I almost made the decision to buy a brand new cook top because of their recommendation. Con: Did not have much expertise or knew how to resolve what is a not so difficult problem. He even remarked that he hasn't worked on cooktops much in the past. Pro: Nice people, weren't difficult to get a hold of. Came out quick. read more

I found John's appliance repair on Yelp. I have actually had great success hiring professionals from Yelp. Let me start this review with, professional. Or lack thereof. I contacted John's appliance via Yelp on Feb 1st with a request for a quote to repair 2 refrigerators ice makes and a dishwasher. I knew the problem with the dishwasher as a glass had broken and a piece had gotten lodge in the drain pipe. I never received a response...... I should have moved on from here in hindsight. But I gave them the benefit of the doubt maybe thinking they were busy or lost me inquiry. I texted again on April 15th. I actually got a response this time with my request for services and the request for my address. I was told that there would be a $65 service fee but that would be applied to the repair. "Alex" promptly replied and we agreed on an appointment for 2 days later, April 17th. When Alex arrived for the repair, he looked like he had just been hired, he was driving his mom's small sedan and dressed in regular clothes. No marked vehicle, uniform, card etc. to distinguish that he was an employee vs someone off of the street. After I showed him the 3 appliances and told him what was wrong with the dishwasher, he fixed that quickly and then kept calling someone about the refrigerators. He later told me that he would need to order a kit to repair the ice makers and once in he would return for the repair. He still has not given me a quote..... since he was new he did not know what the quote would be but would get back with me. Alex returned on May 23rd to complete with repair with the "kit" that he had ordered. It was then that he should me a YouTube of the exact ice maker and that the problem was a routine problem and would need routine care. He also told me he had to replace my icemaker in my new refrigerator (less than 6 mos old). I told him that it should have been covered under warranty if it was broken. He said.... He didn't think about that! We he was the one who actually broken the ice maker..... it was frozen solid. And instead of reviewing the YouTube video that he should me he would have seen that you need to push 2 control buttons and place it in a defrost mode to get the icemaker bin out. Instead, he manhandled it and broke it.... Which is why it needed repairing. Because HE broke it! After I paid him...... the invoice that he presented...... again mind you. No quote for the fee! Buyer beware! I was charged $120 for the dishwasher, $125 for our older frig ice maker repair, and $342 for the new frig icemaker repair/replacement.. Needless to say, I was not happy! This was absolutely crazy overpriced. I paid the bill and was told that it came with a warranty and to call if I had any additional problems. The very next day..... the older frig icemaker was leaking water all over the floor. So I contacted them again. I contacted them again and 2 days went by and still no one to come and repair the warranty work. Now its 4 mos later and many many emails and texts messages and I am still where I was in Feb. oh but worse! I got an error message on Friday, July 26th stating that I had a 39 E error message...... so I google it. When I went to that refrigerator..... it had NEVER even been put back together!!!!!!!! The ice maker was unplugged and placed in the drawer below. So despite many many emails, texts message and voice mail, it has left me to proceed to the next step. Hopefully.... Preventing anyone else from being taken advantage of, having their appliances broken and being billed for work not done. Since I have tried for months to get this repaired amicable I will proceed with what is next. SOOOOOO byer beware AVOID this operation it you want to save your money and time. read more

I first called John in late May to fix our Fisher & Paykel oven. All of his reviews on Yelp (at the time) were 5 stars, so I thought he would be a safe bet. John came out to our house, diagnosed the issue (broken thermostat) & said he'd come back when the part came in. In early June, another technician (Alex -- John's son) came by with the part. He replaced the thermostat, but broke a few knobs on the oven and scratched our wood floor in the process. The light/fan knob was broken in the "on" position, so we had no choice but to unplug/re-plug the power to the oven every time we wanted to use the cook top while waiting for the replacement knobs to come in. The knobs arrived about a week later & Alex came back out to replace them. He put everything back together, checked it out & things seemed to be working correctly. I paid Alex $583 for their service. That seemed incredibly high, but he told me that the parts were expensive due to Fisher & Paykel being an "expensive brand" and a foreign company. I trusted that this was the case, but did not check for myself at that time. After Alex left, I tried the oven. It wouldn't stay on. Begrudgingly, I asked him to come back and check it out. He came back & said that the oven switch wasn't working & he needed to order a part. A week went by -- no part. Two weeks went by -- no part. A month went by -- the part finally came in, but it was the "wrong" part. Another month went by & they still hadn't received the correct part, so I called John. He told me that the part was on back order & they didn't know when it would be in (understandable, but this was not information they had given me in the two months prior). John sent me a copy of the part order. I called Fisher & Paykel to see if they had the part (they did, and it was $5) & within 5 minutes the part was ordered & on its way to me. The part arrived a couple of days later & Alex came out to install it. Guess what? It was again the "wrong" part. They had been ordering the wrong part for two months. Alex said the problem was that they could only speak to someone on the phone while ordering parts & there wasn't a schematic with a parts list they could go by, so it had been hard to know exactly what to order. I did a 30 second Google search & found the elusive schematic. Alex decided we needed to order another part, so I called F&P and ordered it (for $6). The part came in & was just a piece of plastic, so I finally called another repair service to diagnose the problem. The technician quickly determined that our thermocouple was faulty & that it would be an easy fix. Throughout this whole 3 month process, both John and Alex have been very nice, so at least there's that. However, I defaulted to their expertise & gave them the benefit of the doubt, but in hindsight, I wish I'd called someone else after Alex's first visit. We've been without a working oven since May. Do not do what I did & wait 3 months for them to fix something they clearly don't know how to fix. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for your repair needs. read more

He immediately knew what the problem was and came back the next day and installed the new part. He is very knowledgeable and quite personable. He repairs all kitchen appliances. My refrigerator wasn't working. Freezer was cold, fridge wasn't. Alex came, made a cursory inspection and went off to get a part. Returned an hour later, took a closer look and told me the part wasn't needed after all, I just needed to replace the refrigerator as the control board needed to be replaced and the part was no longer available. Yikes! He charged me $80 for the service call. Next day I had another repair guy from Appliance Express came who told me to defrost the refrigerator and it should work fine. I did and it did. So I called John's Appliance and told them I wanted my money back as they had completely failed. He asked me if I would ask a doctor for a refund if they misdiagnosed me. Hell yes I would (and appliance repair is hardly comparable to medicine). He told me he still thought Alex's diagnosis was right and the fridge would fail completely in a month. If it didn't he'd refund my money. I waited almost 2 months, just to be sure, and left him a message that my fridge was working great and to please refund my money as he had agreed. Crickets. I waited another month and called again. More crickets. So not only did I get charged for a completely incompetent service call, I was also lied to. Don't use this company. read more

I hired Jon because my GE refrigerator was not cooling properly. He told me it was because I needed a certain part and that the part would take a week to get there. He asked that I pay him half up front to order the part and that he would come back within a week to fix the refrigerator. A week later he came back and put the part in as he said he would do. Only problem was that my refrigerator was still not cooling properly. I paid him the entire $300 he asked for on his word that my refrigerator would cool down in the next few hours. The refrigerator never cooled down and I was out of $300. He told me that whatever other issues are going on, its not his problem, and that he put in the part that he said he was going to put in. I told him I would write a review about his service and he threatened to sue me for slander. After that I just bit the bullet and called GE, they came as scheduled and fixed the problem. Moral of the story - Sometimes it may be better to just go to the manufacturer so you don't get scammed and end up having to pay twice. read more

Our new house came replete with issues, one of which was a new-ish refrigerator that had been severely neglected by the previous owner. The ice maker had been crudely removed from the unit which had caused the control panel to malfunction. The fridge constantly ran too cold as a result and we would get ice throughout the unit. John came out to our house next day to diagnose the problem, and help us price new parts for the fridge. He was nice enough to reset the control panel free of charge and ordered a new ice maker. John's price was more than reasonable and he was patient with us as we had to wait a pay cycle to take care of this unexpected expense. He made himself available on the weekend to come out and do the ice maker repair. It is so nice to do business with a local professional who obviously takes pride in his work. John provided top notch service while being personable, knowledgable and getting bonus points for being really friendly to our pets. We now have an ice maker that works, a control panel that we can set to our preference and a refrigerator that doesn't freeze and thaw at random. While I hope we don't need John's services anytime soon, I'm glad to know we have a go-to repairman that can fix all manner of appliances in the kitchen and laundry room. I contacted Yelp Appliance repair places for a quote. Got a estimate from John less than 45 minutes & replaced fridge water reservoir in less than 20 minutes the next day. This was a pretty simple process & I thought Johns prices were more than fair. Other companies were charging for this and that on top of basic labor/parts. John is an all around nice guy who knows his stuff. He so gave me some tips to better maintain gas stove too. Definitely going to be our go to guy for any household appliance repair or install...Fridge, oven, dishwasher, microwave, washer, dryer, basically any appliance. I'm sad to post this because John was very pleasant to talk to, however, from a professionalism perspective (i.e. ability to contact John by telephone; his timeliness and quality of appliance repair work), I will absolutely never work with John's Appliance repair again and would recommend AVOIDING his company for your appliance repair jobs. - It took over 2 months for John to return to my house to replace dryer parts. - John was incredibly difficult to get a hold of by telephone and would not return calls in a timely manner. - The dryer now works even less well than before he replaced the parts - John said that he ordered new parts for the oven range in March. He then said the company where he ordered parts from was going out of business. It is now June and I do not have a functional oven range. He told me repeatedly he would "get back to me next week", but I never heard from him. I would expect a professional appliance repair provider to find a new company to order parts from if there was such an extreme delay. read more

Great shop! Highly recommend. Our fridge/freezer was on the fritz one day; John answered our call and told us a technician would call us soon, which he did (within the hour), and he was able to stop by within about half an hour of that. The technician who came out, Forrest, was so nice, friendly, and very helpful. He took the time to explain everything thoroughly, which is always great when you're looking at spending a lot of money on something that you know very little about (or at least *I* know very little about). Working with John's appliance repair has been a terrible experience. My dishwasher door would not close so he ordered a new plastic latch. When his assistant came to install it he worked for awhile and just left without saying anything. I called John and he came out to our home a few days later and tried to fix the problem as the dishwasher would not cycle properly. After John left we discovered that it still did not work so John came back a few days later. He tried to figure out what the problem was ,but could not saying he needed to do some research into the problem. Almost two months had now gone by, and still no dishwasher. But John would not return my calls. I finally called another company and after checking the dishwasher they said that the circuit board was blown and it would cost $1200 to replace it. I finally was able to reach John and told him what the problem was and that I wanted him to pay half of the cost for a new dishwasher which was less then the $1200. He would never return my multiple calls. So I had to buy a new dishwasher. Nobody is perfect, but if you mess up you should take responsibliity for it. John is not willing to do this and I would recommend that no one takes the chance on using him for any repairs that you need for an appliance. Richard read more

Can't say enough about the service I received from John. My washer pump was out and the tub wouldn't drain so my cloths were stuck behind a locked front load door. I called him at 6:15 on a Saturday night and he called me back within the hour while he was out of town. He agreed to come to my home Sunday evening after he returned home to free my laundry from my Maytag's captivity and diagnose the problem. He came through on all promises, picked up the part on Monday and came back to install it at the time promised, in less than an hour and for a very reasonable price. John was recommended to me by a neighbor, so I decided to give him a call for my leaking fridge about a month ago. John's work is quick and of good quality. He was able to immediately diagnose a broken part that needed to be replaced and was causing my fridge to leak all over the kitchen floor as well as stopped the water dispenser from working. He had the part with him in his truck. His prices seemed reasonable, but I didn't have any other quotes from other service companies to compare with. He charged me the price of the part plus $100 for the labor. It probably took him about 30-45 minutes for the whole visit including looking for the problem. He even recommended a local place in town where I could buy appliance parts myself in the future if it was a small DIY fix. It was a little difficult to get in touch with him and schedule an appointment the first time I called him (which is the only reason I docked a star). Took several emails and calls, but we were finally able to set up an appointment. He informed me that he does work on the weekends, and he doesn't charge extra for work then. I just called him again today because the water dispenser on my freezer door stopped working again. It was much easier to get in touch with him this time. He walked me through testing the line myself over the phone and was able to determine that the line had just gotten frozen up and needed to be defrosted. I'm sure he could have made a service call for this and charged me to diagnose it himself, but he saved me the money by teaching me how to do it over the phone. I would definitely recommend him as he seems like a pretty honest and friendly guy to me. read more

This company came recommended from our neighbor. We had someone come out on Friday to look at the problem with a washer not draining and he stated he needed a different part and would come back the next day. He came back and stated the he didn't need the part after all and changed a fuse, charged right at $200 and was gone - all in 15 minutes. He didn't check his work and of course, once the washer filled up, it would not drain. When we called back, he stated he could not come back for another 3 days. Jon came out to do a small repair for me in 2017 and I was satisfied with his work, but this week he stood me up twice and failed to call with an explanation or apology. After his first no-show, I asked him why he didn't call to explain or reschedule, and he admitted that he was disorganized and overwhelmed. I called John after a bad experience with Mr Appliance. The track on the top rack of my dishwasher had broken. He gave an estimate over the phone then came out the next day to install the new parts. He was very knowledgeable, prompt, courteous and efficient. And one third the price Mr Appliance had quoted. He then advised me on problems I was having with my stove and refrigerator.
