The most poppin place in navy yard to get a sandwich! They have some pretty irregular hours, but when it's open there is always a line that moved very quickly. Yum, just doggone yum. Located near the Navy Yard as you may have guessed parking is fair to middling at best, but who cares!? It totally serves the purpose to those that live/work in the area. Cornercopia is a dope corner spot that sells nifty grocery items, food, and my favorite sammiches. Quaint spot, nice, helpful staff;prices are average for the area. A sandwich and chips were just shy of ten bucks. Nice selection to choose from, each sandwich had a name akin to the something in the area. The clerk said the stadium was the most popular sandwich, so that's what I tried. Now if you don't know me by now and my fear or distaste of mayo you know that that was a no go...so balsamic vinegar it is. And go! What I got was a ginormous sandwich that had smoked pepper mill turkey, avocado and BACON! Pretty much all of my favorite things. They didn't skimp on the toppings and the sandwich was extremely fresh. If I wasn't so hongreh, I would have saved half for later. Too bad... If I'm ever in the area, I'm soo going back. Oh Cornercopia my saving grace for my stay at the Courtyard down the street. Food options are very sparse at 6pm around this area, and I was starving. I pulled up my handy dandy Yelp App, and found this hidden gem! The sandwiches are truly amazing, and I was super excited to have found this place. The store is on the corner, which is why it's called "Cornercopia." It is a local convenient store, but sell awesome sandwiches. Here is a quick review of the two sandwiches I tried: The Greenline: Veggie sandwich that includes lettuce, tomatoes, avocados, cranberries, and I omitted the onions. There's also smoked Gouda cheese (my fav) and their homemade pesto sauce!! The sandwich is probably 2" thick, and I ordered it with marble rye bread. It was soo delicious with all the flavors melting into one. The veggies really melt well with the smokiness of the Gouda and the herby pesto sauce. The rye bread was just the right touch to complete the sandwich! The Stadium: A turkey sandwich with all the best fixin's. It starts out with a peppered turkey breast, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. This was all held together with their wonderful tangy russian dressing on wheat bread. Again, the sandwich is probably 2" thick, and the best part was the dressing. One bite of this sandwich, and I was so happy I felt like I was in euphoria. Cornercopia definitely has the best sandwiches I've ever had!! The service, on the other hand, wasn't the best. I know everyone raves about it, but I just didn't get the same experience the two times I was there. The guy behind the counter didn't have a smile and was not very pleasant. I would still patron here for the sandwiches, but I definitely wouldn't come here just for the service. read more

I've been here enough to have interacted with everyone and they are super friendly- service is also really fast even with a line! Every sandwich we've tried is delicious- we have to limit ourselves to a once a week treat, otherwise it would be dangerous.... Although NOT wallet-wise- for as chock full of fresh goodies as they fill these giant beauties- the price is more than fair. I'd spend 2-3x on all the ingredients and making them at home. I started to expand my scope of lunch eats just from the office to several blocks and beyond. This has taken me to Cornercopia a corner shop sandwich place with approximately a dozen subs in their arsenal. An armament that is absolutely outstanding, the subs are named after DC areas or landmarks and though I have only made my way through two of them, it has been a joy each time. My favorite sandwich with turkey, pesto and cranberries which I can not recall the name currently is my pick for this face, but more adventurous types will find an assortment to their liking. The C shop is only missing out on a perfect score by own stubbornness and no club sandwich option. Maybe I didn't ask about that but I didn't see it either. I've gone here maybe 3 times in the 4 times that I have worked by the navy Yard and I don't know why I ha vent gone back more often! It's delicious! I had "Mom's chicken Salad" which is huge and plenty for two meals. Its on a hearty sub roll with just the right consistency of chicken and mayo and celery and then delicious pesto and cranberries....I consider myself a chicken salad fiend and when I find some that I like, I cant get enough! I went in today around 11:30, thinking there would be a wait, there were about 8 people ahead of us. Surprisingly we were in and out in under 10 minutes. They are a well oiled machine! They have plenty of drinks, and chips and other snacks to choose from as well. My friend Kim got "The Georgetown" which is a fan favorite. Roasted Turkey, pesto sauce, cranberries on a french roll. Thanks Albert for the kind invitation. I stopped by today again for lunch. This time I ordered the Georgetown. The pesto piqued my interest so I got that. I'm not a fan of dried cranberries, but by the time I finished my sandwich I was really enjoying these sweet berries. The sandwich was by no means lean on the meats either which I appreciated, but next time I think I'll have to request more pesto sauce. I like the cozy corner mart idea a lot especially in this neighborhood, but I wish there was a stronger reason to draw me back more often. In the sparsely populated Navy Yard/Near SE area, it's a wonder Cornercopia doesn't have customers lining up out the door looking to escape the otherwise bleak lunch fare of Five Guys, SizzEx and a hot dog stand. Then again given the random location at the corner of K & 2nd, I'm surprised anybody knows about it at all. I only happened by it a week ago on my way back to work from a lunch time soccer game at Folger Park. Cornercopia's name, while painfully punny, is appropriate considering their offerings. In this tiny little shop, they have managed to cram in a good selection of beer and wine, snacks, candy, drinks, eco-friendly everything (including wet-naps), a cooler full of pre-made fresh food -- like StickyRice sushi! -- and a deli counter. Offering 6 or 7 sandwich options for lunch-goers, the only disappointment is that there is no place to sit and eat. I had the "Capitol" sandwich: black forest ham, brie cheese, pear slices and a nice, light honey mustard. I was disappointed by the lack of fixins on the sandwich, not realizing that the menu was very literal in its description of the sandwich. Call me crazy, or call it a consolation prize, but for $8, I'd like to have the option of even half of the toppings you can get at ANY other sandwich shop. Came here earlier today with my husband and baby. Very clean store, with a nice selection of snacks, ready to grab meals, and sandwiches made to order. The woman that helped me was kind and patient as she waited for me to read the menu. Ordered "The Capitol" and grabbed a bag of chips for a total of $9. Hubby got the Thursday bulgogi special and a water for $10. Walked to the water fountain to eat and our food was delicious! Tiny but cute shop selling great sandwiches, korean bulgogi, and gourmet groceries. You can get asian treats like panda chocolate cookies or gourmet chocolates/breads/cookies/drinks, etc. The variety of chips is fantastic and there are several cakes and cheesecakes for dessert. The Stadium turkey BLT with avocado and spicy Russian dressing on wheat is superb. Very fresh and flavorful with quality ingredients. I could eat any one of their sandwiches everyday. The owner was kind and patient enough to allow me to sample the bulgogi since I couldn't make a decision. While good, it needs more spice, but I guess you can customize the spice level to your liking so that's nice. Wish they had a NOVA outpost. Kind of pricey for a singe serving and no seating hence the 4 stars. Had to go eat at Lot 38 across the street. Cornercopia is a delish treat and will definitely return if I'm in the area. read more

I have been craving a hoagie (but apparently they don't really exist outside of Philadelphia) and the navy yard Taylor Gourmet is so hit or miss. Yelp led me to this small little shop and I was not disappointed! Super friendly staff and a delicious sandwich. I got the "Georgetown" which is turkey, garlic mayo, lettuce and some sort of cranberry spread (hunks of cranberry). I didn't realize till I was finished that there was no cheese on it. Usually this would be offensive to me as I LOVE cheese but I didn't even miss it on this Sammy. Not QUITE the same caliber as Philly hoagie shops but it hit the spot. I visited recently for lunch. It's a convience store/ delicatseen located near canal park in SE. It is a small shop with blackboard with different sandwich options. The menu is fairly diverse. The store also includes beer wine and other sundries. I tried the stadium sandwich. Turkey based with lettuce tomato avacado bacon and spicy Russian dressing. Got it on a sub roll. Overall it was very good. I would get it on a toasted bread next time though. Flavorful turkey and all the veggies were fresh. A little pricey but around the going rate for fresh ingredients and quality sandwich in DC. Not a huge selection of drinks but quality selection of chips and very good pickle on the side. About 2 blocks north of the Navy Yard is a DC gem: Cornercopia. They have the BEST sandwiches, snacks and drinks. My favorite is The Stadium: Boar's Head Turkey, bacon, lettuce tomato, with spicy Russian dressing. Get it on two slices of marble rye that beat Seinfeld's favorite bread. They are friendly and fast and always have a recommendation for something new to try. Sitting outside devouring one of these great sandwiches will make you late for work after lunch, but it is worth it. read more

Just recently a sandwich was brought to me by a friend who had stopped by this place called Cornercopia in SE DC near the Navy Yard. Being somewhat of a sandwich snob, I wasn't sure if I would like it or not but decided to give it a try. My friend decided that I would enjoy Mom's Chicken Salad, and since my friend knows how I feel about sauce and cheese, she decided to ask for the extra for me, this is why we are friends! lol. Anyhow, wow.... it was amazing. I don't usually compliment your ordinary sandwiches but it was really good. First off, the bread is definitely fresh, and the mixture of the chicken salad was a perfect balance of salty and sweet in your mouth. Also, the sandwich is really big so I ended up eating only half and saving the other half for later. Later on I found out that the reason I enjoyed their sandwich so much is because this is a small mom and pop kind of place in DC who are true connoisseurs of sandwiches. They actually hand make everything that they make like the sauces, they get fresh daily baked breads delivered daily, and every sandwich includes a little bit of the love they put into it. I have been eating their sandwiches on a regular basis and can't thank my friend enough for finding this place. I will be a regular for as long as they are around! read more

I feel about Cornercopia much like I do about my favorite pair of sneakers. You know what I mean? You're definitely glad to have them around, you appreciate the familiarity you share, and you certainly wouldn't want to lose them. You know at the same time though -- they could probably use a little improvement. In this case, I don't love that Cornercopia has never posted their operating hours. I still can't tell friends exactly when they're open. Also, I'm not personally a fan of either pesto or Russian dressing, but these deli owners love both. (I mean they LOVE them, like on almost every single sandwich.) Now, since their sandwiches are made to order, it's not a big deal to request exceptions, but I'd sure love to see a little ground mustard, Italian dressing, chipotle mayo, or something of variety on the menu. On the other hand, like with your favorite pair of sneakers, there are aspects of a relationship that become so familiar and comfortable that you can't imagine them changing. In this instance, I love that the owners choose high quality products, that they stock the shelves with unique items you don't find everywhere else. I also appreciate that they opt to run the deli themselves, overseeing most of the daily details. Sandwiches are made to order, shelves are neatly stocked and questions are answered by the same people placing the store's orders. So, while Cornercopia may not be perfect, I'm glad that like that comfortable pair of sneakers I referenced, they perform reliably when I need them. read more
