Cornucopia is the holy grail sandwich deli of Navy Yard I've been searching for since moving in

As a sandwich person, I had to try this place ... I got the chicken salad sandwich and a friend got the roast beef - both were amazing. Good balance of flavors, fresh bread and a nice kick in each ... the first with the cranberries, the latter with the horseradish mayo. Will go back for bulgogi if in the neighborhood on a Thursday. Oh, and the owner was very friendly ... love the comfortable, family feel. read more

Oh my sandwiches. So delicious. Only the best of ingredients. And the perfect locals spot. Their demand has been so great that they have had to continually adjust their food orders and for awhile would run out of bread by the end of the day. But I don't even care. That almost makes it even better because you know their sandwiches are that good. Great little retail shop for the essentials and unique offerings. They try to carry some eclectic food you don't see just everywhere and make your shopping experience more exciting. Buy some ginger chews! The only negative I can say is that they could have better wines. Their offerings are small, which is totally fine as it is a small spot, but I wish the selection was as boutique as everything else Cornercopia. read more

It was the food trucks or maybe try Cornercopis for a sandwich for the first time. I'm not big on deli sandwiches, but I walked over and ordered Mom's chicken salad sandwich... It is described as having dried cranberries and pesto sauce.... Maybe I got the tuna, because it tasted how I make tuna with relish and the chicken chunks were small than tuna chunks. Was it chicken or tuna? $8 and change on a ciabatta roll. It just didn't do it for me. read more

Mediocre sandwich. Before going in, I chuckled at earlier reviews that mentioned the fake-out on bread options (only sub bread is available). But it happened to all of us in line today. Multiple people ordered sandwiches not on a subway roll. All of us had to change our bread option -- and I don't mean that we were told at the point of sale that our choice wasn't available. We had all paid and were waiting outside (Covid rule) for our sandwiches when the clerk came out and told us we had to change. . I had to change my choice twice and still got a subway roll -- which I didn't discover until I got home. I don't really know what's going on there, but this seems to be a pattern not just a one-off. read more

I had heard about this place from a friend, and I stopped by to grab a sandwich on the way back to the office. I was surprised at how tiny it was, but also at how much they managed to pack in there while allowing walkways. And at how much gourmet items they had - like truffle oil. On the plus side, they had adult beverages. And a nice selection of drinks and chips to go along with the deli portion. I ordered one of the 6-8 sandwiches they had on the board, and it was tasty (how can you go wrong with avocado and bacon) but I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have any corned beef on hand as a special since it was St. Patrick's day. I might go back again, it seems easy to find street parking there for a quick pickup. read more

This place definitely beats the same old Subway/Five Guys/SizzEx fare. There's only one sandwich that's above average (that I'll eat) and that's the Stadium. Otherwise, they sometimes have daily specials available such as tofu dumplings, Korean BBQ, and sushi. Think of this place as a miniature Whole Foods (high prices and all). But it definitely beats the 1lb of food you'll consume at the healthfood express. Note: Try and get there early because this place starts getting packed from about 11-1pm. One of my favorite places to get those special little treats that you never tire of. Great products and never jam packed with customers so you are always in-and-out. I love the fresh array of ingredients. The best part of this little deli is that is has all the classics and includes simple updates to make them just that much more interesting...I have yet to be disappointed. read more

This was a terrific discovery at the Navy Yard. I ordered the roast beef special on a white sub. At first I was worried when I saw one of the staff weigh some meat for a different sandwich. Fortunately for me, my sandwich was stuffed. The roast beef was perfect, and the horseradish mayo was well applied. The sub roll was described as "artisan" and was delicious. The price was a bit on the high side at $9.50 with tax. However, for just $2 more than other the other sandwiches around here, it's well worth it. read more

Delicious. The Capitol is a definite favorite of mine here. The owners are friendly, and the food is fantastic!

They are constantly running out of bread and then "conveniently" only have sub rolls. Of course the sub roll sandwich is more expensive. This has happened numerous times and fees like a scam. At a minimum, it is poor customer service to charge more for a sub because you failed to stock appropriately. The sandwich is good, but nothing extraordinary. I would skip it. read more

My coworkers rave about this place and frequent it. In the 3 years working nearby, I decided to give it a try. Tuesdays are Chicken Curry specials and Thursdays are Bulgolgi specials. I came today and my curry had 2 small morsels of chicken swimming in a gravy of curry with onions, carrots and potatoes. It was edible but definitely nothing to write home about. I was disappointed that I got that much chicken for a dish claiming to be chicken. read more

A hidden gem with outstanding sandwiches for breakfast and lunch. The owners are extremely friendly. Great variety.

I have a soft spot for this place, because it's held it's own in our difficult transitional neighborhood. I wish they were open more often (they close early and on weekends) and the menu is a bit limited, but the bulgogi is amazing, and you can pick up a snack or bottle of wine while walking the dog. Cornercopia is a little haven for those in the neighborhood looking for something quality. While the sandwiches are a bit pricey, they are a welcome relief from the chain stores in the area. They make the sandwiches on the spot and use quality ingredients. I normally never finish an entire sandwich, but I will take as long as it takes to savor every bite of the Capitol. The black forest ham, brie, and pears never fail to satisfy. Their selection of grocery items is far from ordinary, and would make any foody happy. Most importantly, the staff is just wonderful. They know their customers and really make this developing area feel like a neighborhood. read more

Tucked away on a quiet neighborhood street corner, barely distinguishable from the row homes surrounding it, is Cornercopia. While all the other places by DOT and the Navy Yard are packed at lunchtime, this place generally flies under the radar. The name says it all - they stock a little bit of everything...but I come here for the sandwiches. Generally when I order a cold sandwich, I don't expect much because I'm pretty sure I could make better at home. But the sandwiches here are absolutely unbeatable; I couldn't ever come even close to replicating the perfection that is the "Greenline" (on absolutely delicious marbled rye by choice). Avocado, gouda, cranberries, LT, a creamy pesto-like spread and some kind of balsamic vinaigrette combine in the most heavenly fashion. Their veggies are fresh, wherever they get their bread from is top notch, and their sandwich combos are genius. They also have an incredible variety of chips and drinks to choose from to round out your lunch. It is a very small space, they only have a couple of employees, the only seating is a park bench outside, and their menu isn't very large so I definitely wouldn't recommend rolling up with a large group of coworkers. But if you're flying solo for lunch or out with a friend or two, you must check this place out...if you can find it. read more

First time here for lunch. I got the Georgetown...The best way to describe this sandwich is Thanksgiving swaddled in deliciously fresh, soft bread. YUMMY! Will be back again. Maybe next time I'll try breakfast. read more

This little shop in a neighborhood with NOTHING for lots of residents and day workers carries and eclectic mix of household groceries and ready mades, including wine and ice cream -- a must. Also has a great deli and daily fresh sushi. Plus the owners are young small biz folks who live above the store and I hope we all shop there enough to keep them in biz! read more

Just found this place after moving to the Navy Yard area. Boar's Head meat in the sandwiches and available as cold cuts, and Dogfish Head beer gets this place 4 stars. Of course, it's corner store prices so most everything is marked up a bit, but I'll gladly pay for this convenience. read more

Whenever we are in D.C., this deli is a MUST STOP on our itinerary! My 12 year son who is an extremely picky eater craves the sandwiches! Unfortunately, we live in Los Angeles! Despite living in Los Angeles where there are plenty of great restaurants and deli, none compares with Cornercopia deli! Everyone in my family has a different favorite. From my favorite, the Georgetown, my kids' favorite, the Stadium, or my husband's choice of the Capitol, these subs are amazing! Albert and Danica, the sweet young couple who owns the deli refuse to compromise on the fresh high quality ingredients. They serve the best quality Boar's Head meats and cheeses. You will not find iceberg lettuce at this shop! Don't waste a meal on plain sandwiches from other places, Cornercopia sandwiches are beyond compare! Yum!!! Love this place. This is only a couple blocks from my place, so that alone is worth stars... but the seriously delicious (and big!) sandwiches really make it worth it. They have a short menu but do it well. One night a week that have tasty Korean food. Did I mention it's also a convenience store with tasty and hard to find Asian snacks? Another insider tip: they are actually open until 6pm on Sundays, yay! If you don't want to pay for overpriced stadium food, this is a great option. Very fresh ingredients, very convenient. My friend (who is a vegetarian) loves it as well. They really pile on the meat, and they really use fresh ingredients, so it's worth every penny. Plus like many people have said, it beats the 5 guys and subway, by A LOT! I wanted more sauce on my sandwich, so next time I'll ask (I'm a big horseradish fan). But they put so much meat on and use such hearty bread that it can stand all the meat, and for me it often makes two meals. Coworkers and I love coming here for a quick fresh lunch. read more

The lunch sandwiches are good priced reasonably for typical DC area workers. However, I just tried the breakfast sandwich today (they only have ONE breakfast sandwich) and I must say I have had better. It's different (pesto makes the eggs green, nice bread, tasty cheddar cheese) but I don't like the way they prepare the bacon, I think its microwaved so it's rubbery and looks like uncooked pork laying around on your sandwich...I pass on the breakfast sandwich, or any of their sandwiches with bacon for that matter. read more
